Lol yeah this is confusing stuff here... but you didnt even notice Ryan Newman finished dead last and only drove 134 laps and made $110,000? There are different awards and such that a driver can win, tacking on extra money to his race winnings. Newman for example, won the pole, so he probably got something from Subway as the sponsor of the race. Hornish was probably the rookie of the week last week at Texas, and got money for that. Different Prize Money awards and Incentive from the Track and Certain Sponsors- and the Drivers contracts have a bearing on things.!!!!!! It's a complicated system that I have a hard time understanding as well. Different sponsors will provide money for say, the leader halfway through the race or passing the most cars. Also, sponsor money and qualifying can add to the driver's purse. The purses are awarded in amounts of descending order, yes. Sponsorship money will be higher for some drivers than others. Jr has a ton of sponsers, same for #24 and #48. They award contingency money for displaying a decal on the car and an emblem on their uniform. Some drivers have a sponser only for them, that the other 42 drivers won't have. These are besides their primary sponsers. Hope this helps! After looking at the winning purse after Phoenix race, I noticed that Sam Hornish Jr made over $114,000 while finishing 13 places behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr made over $99,000 and finishes 7th place? Someone helps me understand this dilemma. Sponsors pay differently, lap bonus', etc.
Each driver has his own deal with his Team owner and sponsor.

What Jason F said- fact is, Ryan couldn't do any better. i know ive never seen someone **** that much He really had no choice in the matter. His car was throwing oil everywhere (he lost the front main engine seal). He simply slid on the oil that his own car was spewing out as he tried to slow and stop for his pit box.
....He wasn't mad, Brother, he just couldn't help it. I was at the race sitting right in front of Newmans stall. His car was throwing all kinds of oil. (Part of the reason for the red flag) Anyway, he got oil under his tire, broke loose, and spun the car. I dont think it was stupidity at all. He had 0 traction as his Engine was gone!!!!!!! I was there, his car had oil,fluid everywhere, Rocketman couldn't help it..To bad he had another equipment failure, he looked so bummed out.. Just oil on the track and on his tires.
He had blown his engine, or main seal and the oil was just going everywhere.
Trying to keep a straight line like that is like trying to stop sliding on ice with your butt cheeks.
It looks like fun until you hit the shoreline. there kind was oil and it really wasnt his fault newman is a nice guy i dont think he would want to hurt any of his pit crew guys Was he speeding down pit lane or something to come into his pit stall and just spin around the way he did? Nobody was on pit road to bump him or be in his way. He really had no reason to do a 180 or whatever in his pit stall.
I'm glad his pit crew didn't go over the wall before he arrived (like they do to change right side tires) because someone would had gotten seriously hurt.

I've been trying to research this on line but all I can find is the fact that green lights are no longer used and a random sequence is instead, but how many lights are used? the green light is only on during practice and qualifying and at the start of a race 5 red lights go on and when they go out the race starts. There are 5 red lights, which go out 1 by 1 to count down to the start. the lights are out its go go go 5 lights - each comes on with a random time gap before they come out and when the 5 lights go out, the race is on... the pit lane has a red and green light indicating when it is closed/open. 5 lights From what ive seen, 4. .

its a conspiracy :/ I wondered the same thing, I think it was because the leader didnt have a 2+sec lead when Kasey wrecked. Thats why there was no caution. nascar is playing favroites again. I thought the same thing. It looked like there should had been a caution for debris. Last night, Ryan Newman was leading, he had a pretty good lead on the rest of the field. Out of no where a caution came for debris (they never did show the debris). Now, late in the race Kasey Kahne cut a tire and scraped the wall, as he was getting on to the apron to get to the pits, what seemed to be a brake pad came off Kasey's car and I believe it was Mark Martin who almost ran over it. (It was all caught on tape) No caution for that. Just wondering why there was no caution at that time? Could it be because the leader didnt have a 2+ sec. lead on the pack? hhmmm I was wondering the same when I saw the brake pad fly but then I thought about it and figured even NASCAR gets sick of throwing cautions for the GEM team. They need their own landfill with all the debris they create every weekend.
Ouch! i really dont think a brake pad could do any damage and they did show the debris and also after martin ran over the pad the pad went on the side right by the grass no one could run over that good question Every time someone has a big lead ,you can count on a caution. That is one of the best ways nascar has to manipulate the races.And I would bet my last dollar this will not be the last time it happens.NASCAR is so desperate, or controlling, to get tight finishes , they are about to ruin the sport. There are rules for cautions? lol There has been alot of Talk on here about Phantom Debris cautions--This could have been the case!!!!! *cough* bougus!

nope I live 15 minutes from the track. I will watch the race on TV at home, where the beer is cheaper and the lines to the bathroom are shorter. Yes I am going to that race--I am not a winking blinking star however!!!!!!! Possibly. I am going to Darlington and both May LMS races so I may be too poor to go! I teach in NC and school gets out on June 13th. So, if I am able to make it home (I am from MI) by Sunday I will be there. :) no i don't go no ive been to many indy car races,,
never been to nascar race,, and dont feel like messing with all that traffic,,
its bad enough getting out of there after an indy event,, and not many people
also ,, the one yr when indy split, we went to the us 500, and there was as many people as a nascar event , over 140,000 plus,
never again,, we waited 4 hours and traffic was still bumper to bumper,, no but i will watch on tv i wanna see that race because that race will show if kurt busch is a contender this year or not

I like Mark and respect him immensely but he has to change that attitude or he will never win again. Then no they should not fine Mark Martin or anyone else for that matter. Who could in their right mind find a reason to fine him for making a statement like he did?
