Did the Dover Nascar track pit road get changed in the last year?

May be...

  • Why yes i think it did .
  • Yes, it was widened and alittle bit longer so we had 43 pit stalls today. Your blue deuce looked pretty good today.

    Go Dale Jr & HMS
  • I don't think so.

    Ooopsie, yes it was.

I had a coyote skull once.
  • They made them 4 feet longer and 4 feet wider.
  • Yes, it did. And my skull hurts. : )

  • I dont like skulls.
  • yes it was
  • yes it did...........was widened and lenghtened to allow a 43rd pit stallmb upgrade
  • Did any of you actuall think that JR's crew chief made this much difference?

    May be...

  • TBone you can hate all you want to but as a Jr. fan I will stick with him. I suppose you are a fair-weather fan.
Jr. may not win many races this year with a new crew chief but by god I will not give up on him.
Contrary to popluar opinion Jr. can drive a race car.
TBone hate to tell you but I am NOT watching Fox, I still stand with what I said.
You must be a Baby Bush fan.
  • Yes, I think it made a huge difference and we will see a different Dale Jr. in the coming races.
  • He's 219 points or so out of 12th...He's not making the chase, there are too many better drivers ahead of him that will fight for it.

Jr. drove no better today than any other week. It's just that his crew chief was a lot smarter than Eury Jr. and knew that when Jr. was in 30th spot early in the race (like he was a lot with Eury Jr.) that if they pitted and only took two tires he could gain a lot of spots. Well, that's what they did, and it was a smart call. Once Jr. was up in the top 10 it's a lot easier to hold your position than pass that many cars on the race track. It looks like he might benefit in the short run at least by having a smarter crew chief who is willing to take more risks.

So he got up there on pit road, which is probably a call that Eury Jr. would have thought to risky to make.

And he only finished 12th, if he really is going to have a shot at making the chase he better start reeling off a few top 3s with no wrecks or anything like that up until the chase begins. But honestly, after looking at all the drivers ahead of him in points right now, it doesn't look like he has much of a shot. If he runs consistent every week and finishes 12th each time out, he'll probably end up about 14th or 15th when the chase starts...he started fading towards the end of the race again this week, like normal...maybe he wears out to quick and should work out more.

Oh, and since Rick Hendrick changed half Jr's team around and gave Jr. control of some engineers, he should start winning races...if he has what it takes, everything else is there.

Jr. gave a great interview today, he is a realist, some of his fans should try his approach.
  • HMS made more changes than just the crew chief in this deal, in the shops with engineers, etc. but it does need to be pointed out that the crew chief change was Wednesday and that Jr. runs pretty good at Dover. It is far too early to determine anything 4 days after the change.
  • I think the communication is better, I do not expect miracles in one race, The main thing is he has been able to actually get close to the front and have a car that he can drive. Its gonna take a couple races, but he's not in 40th place this weekend for sure. I think Lance has been pretty good, has a positive attitude and can be a pretty good cheer leader up there on the box and motivate the driver, that was what Tony Jr could not do..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Wow, changes that actually improve a car. Whodathunk? I'm happy that Jr is doing well, and I'm happy that he's actually racing. Win or lose, I think this is a big improvement.
  • A 12th place finish 4 days after a crew chief change is pretty phenominal. I have thought all along that Tony Eury Jr just never got the COT and was unable to make proper changes. Look out, I think the #88 crew is getting ready to "bust a move!!"
  • Yes it does make a difference. So far during Dover he has made small changes and done good. The last change he made didnt work and he started falling back. He also came in and pitted again which put him bacck around 15.

I've been keeping up with the lap times. Pretty much most of the race the cars in front run about 145 and then after a long run drop off to about 141 mph. Dale Jr's car got up to about 144 mph and then they made a bad adjustment and had to repit after the Robby Gordon wreck. He had been running 142 on restarts after fresh tires.

The crew chief that is sitting in so far seems to be making decent changes but shouldn't be expected to be to be perfect in one race. Now they are back down to running 140 mph so they made a change for the worse.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/cup/foxT...
  • I've been listening to his scanner all race long. What a difference! I mean, it's like night and day. There is almost constant chatter going on about how the car is running, and the changes to the car have made it better. Dale Jr. said it himself. He said the changes have been real good. He seems to be in a better mood too. He's been real positive on the radio. There is encouragement going both ways. It's a great thing to hear.

It's too early to tell how the rest of the year will play out, but this is encouraging. Rick made the right decision.
  • You're the type of Jr fan we like to make fun of. He had one decent run of like 20 laps, gained about 10 spots because of a caution during green flag stops and two positions in the pits. Wow! Like he cured cancer. Sheesh! If Tony Jr made the call to pit just now you'd want his head on a platter.

Knew that would rile up someone. Shirley is the winner. I stand by my assessment. No change. Just a lot of radio chatter and Fox saying what you want to hear and even they can't hold back now.
  • WAAAAHHHH!!! Now that Junior has a new crew chief, he'll start winning again, WAAAAAAHHHH!!!

    It won't be any difference.
  • I didn't really like Eury but, wow, I had no idea he was holding JR back like this.

Is this real or is it just today. I mean do you think he is going to turn it around now and make the chase or is he still way to far out to make it.

I'm not being literal here. I know he can make it mathematically but that's not how it really works as you know.

I hope this makes for a whole new year for Dale JR, how about you?
  • The anti-junior crowd is going to make the same comments regardless of how Dale does. They assumed he would run 40th again. He actually did ok, and they still have the same complaints. If Jr. continues to run better now, they will still have just as many excuses as Junior fans.
  • I think it's a combination of two things.

A new crew chief and Jr. usually does well on short tracks.

I hope this starts a run for him.
  • I have been a Jr. fan since he started racing, and until now the only time he ran good was when the car was good right off the truck. Eury was unable to make the car better. Everyone has started saying Jr. is not that great of a driver, but if you look at the way the car drove last week at Charlotte, you could tell he could not race because the car handled so bad. I think the problem has not been with Jr's driving, but the way the car has been handling, and I don't think Jr. was making the changes. Now that he has a proven good crew chief, he should start making progress. He might not make the chase, but he should be on the right track for next year. I don't know why so many Jr. fans have been so quick to jump off the bandwagon. There are several good drivers having terrible years i.e. Kevin Harvick. No one has been saying how bad a driver he is. They have only said how much bad luck he has had. We will see how this change helps or hurts things, but I am excited about the possibilities.
  • fortunately I had the opportunity to read your "additional details" before I answered your question. because it just shows you were being sarcastic in a negative manner. And then you have the guts to say it's the same ol same old why you don't come in here, yet your pulling the same old same old crap that the real users don't like to put up with. Well thanks for creating yourself the situation for the same old same old, but this time you just exploited your negative, sarcastic, insulting point of view. It doesn't mean I can't agree with you, but I am not on that level to think or make decisions speculated on a negative way of thinking. But obviously you were surprised when Junior was running in third position, and if you were watching the race with anyone, there would have been a lame conversation and a feeling of negativity. Just for you, let's be all dark, shallow, and negative, and say "No Juniors crewchief doesn't make a difference"
    It's Busch not Bush
Have fun picking your best answer
  • Jr. is currently struggling on this run. The only time he can drive a car is when the car is absolutely perfect.

The only reason he got way up high in today's race is because that one caution came out when everyone was in the pits and he had yet to pit. Otherwise he was close to getting lapped once again. He got lucky to get his car way up there, but hey, it worked.

Really no one can say there was much if any improvement.audi a3 convertible
  • The best way to drift?

    May be...

  • You wont be able to drift in a FWD car... the Accord is Front Wheel Drive...

You can drift with any RWD car... as long as you can make the tires aqueel a little bit, it will drift but if you want a real drifting experience... trade in your Accord and get a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo...
  • If you can't spin the rear wheels, drifting becomes impossible, which is why front wheel drive cars can't drift. Around here the most popular drift car is a Nissan 240 SX. Many days drift competitions look like Nissan dealerships. No matter what you still need a decent amount of horsepower to drift a car well. A Chevrolet Chevette is rear wheel drive and you still can't drift one.
  • i drifted in one of my friends car the other day mustang 09' 350 hp..i kinda drifted am still learning
but i was wondering if i could do it in a lesser car (Honda accord 98') manual..i know i might have to lower the suspension..i have rims on it and its mostly stock
  • You can drift a FWD car but it takes a lot of suspension work, an insane amount of dollars and will make the car really undriveable on the road. If you are interested in drifting i would suggest trading the accrod on something RWD, the abovementioned supra, a nissan s14 or s15, pontiac solstice or GTO, Ford Mustang, or various others.mugen power uk
  • What network is best at broadcasting Nascar?

    May be...

  • I'm not picky, I like em' all.
  • All Networks Broadcast Nascar Equally.
  • I think Fox
    Espn is bad
  • I pick would be FOX.
As for Digger I think he is a cool little creature. Plus it attracts the younger children, this will get them into NASCAR and as they get older they will be fans of the sport.
  • Fox always. I enjoy their broadcasts more than the others.
  • Here's the real deal...
i'm thanful for anyone who is able to broadcast the race for my viewing pleasure. Because of these people we can watch anywhere we want, and because of the broadcasting companys we can even record the race or TiVo or whatever. They all do the best they can, and it's nice to switch around and create change, but I prefer FOX and feel more comfortable as far as trying to stay with the roots of the sport. And the racing humor is the best. The announcers seem more sincere. Change is good and there's even "competiton" between broadcasting companys
  • I've preferred FOX until this year. That critter Digger really gets on my nerves. I think FOX really dropped the ball with that one. I love DW, though.
  • NONE OF THEM!!!!
EVERYTHING since the 2001 500 has SUCKED!!!

It pisses me off ESPN is doing the new **** way of broadcast instead of the GREATNESS!!! they did for 25 freaking years.
Screw the new **** ESPN go back to what you did for 25 years.
No gimmick ****, just straight up racing calling the action on the track and not looking at your monitor like they do now.
  • It used to be ESPN, but when they lost their bid to keep going, they disbanded the best NASCAR broadcasting team there ever will be.. Now the ones that do this are mostly hacks..
NASCAR started selling our loyalty to them, to people who don't give a damn about the sport.. NASCAR sold control of scheduling races to people without a conscience, or soul..pso hacks for xbox
  • Are there going to be "tire issues" again in the Autism Speaks 400 @ Dover?

    May be...

  • Maybe Goodyear saved the best of the bunch for the race they knew Tony Stewart would be racing in, lol..

Joking aside, I hope there's no issues tomorrow.
Congrats on your boys 3-hitter game...whatever you do, don't let him grow up to be a Yankee!!
    :P
  • Kyle should have won both races today. What are the chances of tires blowing out in two different classes of races in one day?

Granted it may have been a case of too much camber, but I doubt it.
  • There is some concern about the tires. The track did not rubber in at all today during the races and that is a cause for concern. There were a few tire issues today in both races because the racetrack was still green from all the rain, but not widespread issues like at Indy last year. The Nationwide and Trucks have limited sets of tires to use each race so they don't get to change tires as often as the Cup cars. However, the Cup cars are much tougher on tires than the other two series. My opinion is there will be a few teams that have issues due to aggressive set-ups, but most teams should be ok.
  • No idea, I'm just hoping for a great race since I'll be there. Great avatar and congrats on the 3 hitter!

Edit: He'll look good in them Bronx pinstripes. ;)

Edit: Dave, don't you want him to win? Lol
Send him up here to the Yanks.
  • I missed the races too. Had to work. :-(

I hope there's no major tire issues. That always takes away from good racing.

Congrats to your son on that three hitter!
  • Congrats to your sons three hitter!!!
Yeah...not so terribly bad as last year but bad enough. I hope it isn't a factor in todays race.
  • The Nationwide race wasn't nearly as bad as the truck race. In Nationwide there were about 4 tire falliures. The Truck race was pure madness! Several trucks would all have issues at the same time! After a blown tire caused a csution, James Buscher was literally going 70m/h down the frontstreach and his tire blew out! What the hell is that!

The most bizzar thing was with about 15 laps to go, Kyle Busch blew a tire in turn 2 while leading, so Colin Braun took the lead and blew a tire in turn 3, both hit the wall and brought out the caution. Then, before any of the other trucks could slow down David Starr had a tire go down despite the fact that he just took the lead from Colin Braun!

Todd Bodine, Jonny Benson, Brian Ickler and Rick Crawford also had tires go down that resulted in multiple lost laps.

The good news is GoodYear thinks the Cup Series tire will hold up better (see link below)
  • No major tire issues will happen...The nationwide didn,t really have any big issues...
  • Ooo No! I hope no tire issues. I missed the races myself. I was at the Zoo today then watched the WINGS kick booty! Yeah!

Congrats to the soon to be SuperStar and his 3 hitter!!

Have a great weekend and good luck to Kurt.
  • I missed both races today due to watching my soon to be superstar son pitch a 3 hitter in his Bronco league finale today and have been reading about tire problems in the Nationwide & Camping World series races. If you could please give me scoop so I can be prepared tommorow. Thanks and have a great weekend Nascar Nation!orbitz international flights
  • So many questions ask why is NASCAR a sport?

    May be...

  • Wow, I agree with Bestanswer! :-) Sport knitting. We should petition the IOC to include that in the Winter Olympics! My great grandmother would have taken the gold!

I agree Nascar is a great sport. I think the boneheads who question if Nascar is a sport are either gravely uneducated and lacking in simple cognitive skills, or trolls. Hey! That's a great definition of troll!

Anyhow, theres a lot of different varieties. Team sports, like you described: football, baseball, soccer, volleyball.
One on one sports: Tennis, boxing, wrestling, bowling. Racing sports: F1, bicycle racing, marathons. They are all different, but still considered sports.

But there only one Ultimate sport. I get to watch it every weekend!
  • NASCAR's a sport, the rest are games.

No one ever asks how a basketball player uses the restroom while running up and down the court..
  • I read this a long time ago and have used it often but tell me how accurate is this article?

    Let's play a game.....

In this hypothetical game, the outfielder's team is batting first so he sits on a bench waiting for his turn. He's batting sixth and the team makes three straight outs so after about 5-10 minutes of sitting watching his teammates make outs, he has to get up and trot out to the outfield. His pitcher is throwing great today so the other team gets three straight outs and the outfielder doesn't have to move a step once he's trotted out there. So he trots back into the dugout and sits down, waiting another five minutes for his turn to bat. Since the other team's pitcher is just as hot today, he strikes out, making the third out of the inning. He heads back to the outfield to stand around and wait for a ball to come his way. After nine innings, this outfielder has trotted out to his position nine times, taken 3 or 4 times at bat and if he goes hitless, does nothing else during the game but sit on the bench in the dugout and stand around out in the outfield. A total of maybe ten minutes of exertion in a 2 1/2 hour game is all it takes to make a baseball player an athlete.

Now your average offensive linesman in football is a little easier to figure out total exertion time. The average NFL football team runs 62 offensive plays per game. The average play lasts 7-10 seconds. A little figuring tells us the offensive linesman is actually playing for a total of 7-10 minutes in a three and a half hour game. The rest of the time he is watching his defensive teammates play while standing around on the sidelines, standing around on the field in a huddle or waiting for play to resume. So once again it only takes exertion time of 7-10 minutes in over three hours to make an athlete.

Your typical NASCAR race lasts 3-4 hours. The driver is performing for all 3-4 hours except for a few 15-second pit stops when he can grab a quick drink of water. There is no sitting on a bench watching his teammates play or standing in the field hoping a ball comes his way (or hoping not). There is no standing around on a sideline or in a huddle waiting for a seven second period of activity. The NASCAR driver climbs in his car and goes through three to four hours straight of physical activity with 2-3 minutes of total rest time during the average pit stops per race. So your average ball player has 7-10 minutes of activity in his three-hour game while the average driver has two hours and 57 minutes of exertion.

Tell me is this THE ultimate sport or what?????

    I love NASCAR.
  • I've said before that to me a sport is anything you do with a goal of winning. It could be professional knitting for all I care, but if the goal is to win, and there's competition, I'd consider it a sport.
  • Very well said bestanswer. I agree. Nascar is the Ultimate sport and always will be.

The old saying in the Bud Dry commercial "why ask why?"
Have a great weekend Nascar Nation!
  • Not to be a party pooper, but, those analogies are correct and Nascar is THE ultimate sport. It just isn't as grueling as a four plus hour singles tennis match.
  • It is The ultimate Sport! And who cares what other people think! They don't know what they are missing!

  • I love all racing.. It is the ultimate reality sport.. You see people do extraordinary things.. Alex Zanardi in the "corkscrew", at Lagoona, driving the car over a cliff to pass Brian Herta on the last lap, and getting away with it.. Over a cliff.. Wow.. Anyway..
NASCAR is the best.. Four wide off a corner, door to, door.. And I'd like to see Dan Weldon do a back flip off an Indy car (not sure about Helio), that wouldn't do.. I haven't seen a Indy driver yet who tried snow angels..
Back to NASCAR where cars go to one track that has fifteen second laps, at ninety mph, and another where they do two hundred, and the laps are fifty seconds.. Where anyone can win.. And often does..
  • You and Fluffy and bestAnswer and a few others...absolutely got it right. Sometimes those questions "why is NASCAR a Sport" get me down because the people asking don't really want to know...they just want to see us defend our sport and if we get defensive...they laugh. I don't answer them anymore...but look at these great answers here and I am sooo proud to be a fan of NASCAR!!!
If we get that question again...and we will...lol....we should incorprate some of these answers.

Oh and BestAnswer...you should see me knit...I can knit like the wind. Let me know when the next tournament comes up will you???
  • You also need to mention that the object of play (a race car vs. a ball) is a highly technical piece of equipment designed from hundreds of scientific components working in unison, as opposed to pieces of leather stitched together inflated with air or stuffed. There is a ton of competition just getting "the object of play" to be utilized for it's performance in any form of motorsports. I always thought the ball games were boring and NASCAR was 100% intense action. Even when they "pit" it's non-stop action. Like I always say, "NASCAR is as intense as a NASA space launch, and it lasts a whole lot longer"
  • Nascar IS the ULTIMATE sport because a normal race lasts 3-4 hours and the drivers have to endure the heat from the engine and not going to bathroom for 4 hours and drinking very little so in one race they can lose about 5-10 pounds....so i think nascar is not just A sport but THE sport!xbox lve
  • Do you think I should make a bet with my neighbor?

    May be...

  • A friendly bet? Go for it, you might just win, and if not, no big deal as long as you had fun.
  • If it's all in fun, why not?

Instead of twenty bucks, why not bet a bbq get together...that way no matter who wins, you both enjoy it...
  • My neighbor is a die-hard Jeff Gordan fan and I am a die-hard Tony Stewart fan. Should I goad him into making a bet about who finishes best this year? His driver is leading in the points but my driver typically finishes the season strong.
The bet won't be for more than $20 and we'll still be friends no matter what. Bet or no bet? ( I like to win)..
  • I hate to be a "myth buster", but the reason Tony did that was because Zippy save the major portion of his budget for the second half of the season, so while other teams were running low on things like money, he had resources left.. Zippy ain't his crew chief, and it will make a difference, but here's the thing.. Tony has been getting stronger every race, so it may be a self fulfilling prophesy, because if this continues he will be a factor.. So many possibilities.. Love this sport..

Edit:The year Earnhardt won the Daytona 500, was the first time I made a NASCAR bet on line.. I won $750.. The odds were great, because he had never won it before.. I think that's funny..
  • sure why not its a harmless bet
  • For 20 bucks i'd make the bet. Tony just may kick Gordo's but this year. I hope not but he may. My sister-in-law would kill me for saying that...hahaha!!
  • I would make the bet because it's only for $20, but Gordon will probably finish better than Stewart based on what he has done so far at tracks that are in the Chase.
  • Sure, why not it sound's like fun. Have him cut your lawn while your at it. If Jeff win's you might have to clean some dish's though. Enjoy!!
  • Sure, why not have some fun with it. Both Jeff and Tony are running well so you both have a fair shot at it. But make it more interesting than $20 or money. If you win, make him mow your lawn in a tiny women's bikini. If he wins, you have to bow down to him in a busy public place and swear that he is your master and king of your whole world. Whatever you guys think would embarrass the $h!t out of the other. Something fun and yet humiliating.
  • Oh absolutely! I've always found a friendly bet always makes the race a little more interesting!
  • Go ahead and make the bet...it's only $20 and too early to tell especially with those two. But I tell you it will be exciting to watch both of them.
I made a bet with a Jimmie Johnson fan ... if Kyle finishes better by the end of the season... he gets me a subscription for my favorite magazine...and if Jimmie comes out ahead then I make him a cheesecake a month until the Daytona 500 2010. So I will say to him "go ahead and drop that subscription in the mail" or he says "got those cheesecakes going yet??"
Its all in fun and you can do it as well.relative humidity
