Who's the winner tonight in the Nationwide race?

May be...

  • Viper I have to agree also.Kyle Busch wins it
  • I'm going to go with a Dark Horse. Jason Leffler will win.
  • Keselowski, Hornaday and Steven Wallace
  • Trevor Bayne out of Knoxville, Tennessee in the 99! I hope......
  • Erik Darnell
  • I will go with Kyle Busch.
  • Edwards
  • I agree, Kyle Busch is on a roll in the nationwide races
  • logano if he races
  • Brad Keselowski in the JR Motorsports Go Daddy.com #88. It would be cool to see Trevor Bayne come back and win after he and 66 got into each other.

Go Dale Jr & Hms & JR Motorsports
  • I'd like to say a guy like Bayne, Leffler, or Keller would win, but it'll end up being Kyle Busch, Joey Logano or someone like thatinside moves board game

    May be...

  • Hey people, I am from the United States, and we get F1 on Speed. The theme tunes need to be somewhat better, and which would you have? Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" or T-Square (a Japanese rock band) "Truth"/ "Truth 21c"? Or what else themes would you like to see played before Speed Channel's F1 races?
  • Got to be the chain for me dude 'cos I still remember this;

And Stevie Nicks was quite hot back in the day, on the flip side Mick Fleetwod used to scare the sh!t out of me when I was a kid lol.

  • Oh definitely The Chain!

    Intentional Crashes in NASCAR?

    May be...

  • it has not been proven but i believe it could happen
  • i know jr spun himself out to get the lucky dog but they changed the rules to prevent that. and the spring Richmond race of 08 comes to mind when the caution came out for denny hamlin letting teamate kyle busch get a chance for victory.
  • Not YET
  • Because of the Green White Checkered Rule, has a team-ate ever "intentionally crashed" to let his team-ate win. Or has anyone gently crashed on purpose to bring out a caution to even the field.

I know that they throw cautions for a bottle cap on the race track.
  • Well it wasn't really a crash, but Denny Hamlin at Richmond comes to mind. I felt bad because he dominated most of that race, but later on he had tire trouble. He claimed he didn't have an opening to get to pit road and had to stay out until the caution came out, but that was a slight exaggeration on his part. The caution allowed the field, and his teammate, to catch up with the #88.
I didn't know about the example with Jr. but it seems that proves that NASCAR is watching out for this type of thing.
I'm sure a lot of drivers have probably tried to get away with this but NASCAR seems pretty good now about being able to detect when something is intentional.
  • can't prove it .. but i have see a few races where a teammate won when a car in the same team crashed . or a teammate crashed to bring out the yellow to help them out .. tires ,gas things of that nature . so yes it has happened just hard to prove.
  • I can't remember a time when a teammate ever crashed on purpose to give someone else an advantage, but there has been times when a single car has spun out to get into the pits. Usually they get caught and get penalized. Off the top of my head, I remember Jr was about to go a lap down at Bristol, and he needed to get into the pits to fix an ill handling car, so he spun out in turn 4, and brought out the caution. Then he said something like "man, I've never spun out on purpose before.." on his radio. Unfortunately, NASCAR was listening in, and he got a penalty. Also, Robby Gordon threw some debris out of his window to draw the caution. That was caught on tape, and he got penalized after the fact.

Yes, it does happen, and NASCAR is wise to it, and if the drivers get caught, they will be punished.shadowgate ppc

Who is the greatest NASCAR driver of all time?

    May be...

  • 43 The King...7 cup championships,200 wins,34 wins in one season with 10 races won in a row...I have many of his old races on dvd,it,s impressive watching him lap traffic with his arm out the window like he is cruising the boulevard!!NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE A RECORD LIKE THIS ONE IN NASCAR!!!!
  • you are gonna get all kinds of answers,
in most peoples heart Dale Earnhardt was the best,
but if you go to the log book, its gotta be Richard Petty.
It hurts me bad to say that but you gotta call a spade,a spade
  • dale earnhart
  • Buckshot Jones

No, just kidding. I'm going to say David Pearson.
  • Petty and Senior
  • Awesome Bill. The only person who could give it right back to DE, while working on 1/5 the budget.
  • Dale Earnhart
    and then Richard Petty
  • Statistically, Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt.
In my opinion, had he lived, Davey Allison would be in the Top 5 greatest drivers ever. I think he'd have at least 60 career wins, and I think Jeff Gordon and Davey woulda battled it out at least once for the championship and Davey would've won it, and maybe one or two more.
From 1985-1993 (when he died midway through the season) Every season he raced in the Cup series, he had at least 2 wins (even his rookie season and '93, when he died halfway through the season). THAT is an achievement.
  • Cale Yarlboro
  • The King and The Intimidator

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • JEFF GORDON
    here's why:
-he has won 82 races in arguably the most competitive era of Nascar
-he would be going for his 7th championship this year, under the same rules Petty and Earnhardt had to win theirs by
-he has more poles than anyone in the modern era
-2 more wins and he has the most wins in the modern era
-he remained competitive his WHOLE career
    why other drivers are not:
    Richard Petty
-the only reason Petty has 200 wins is because they raced 60 times a year
-Petty went win-less the last 8 years of his career
    -wn races on dirt
-David Pearson was better than Petty
    Dale Earnhardt
    -won championships against easy competition
-Jeff Gordon has more wins than him
-was dominant until Gordon came in
-most of his wins are at plate tracks
David Pearson,we can only wonder what he could have done if he raced full time
Jeff Gordon is the greatest of all-time
  • For me its Dale Sr. R.I.P Dale Sr.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  • Dewalt leaving the 17, who will take their place?

    May be...

  • Well RFR is cutting a team next year. Maybe Crown Royal or UPS might jump on the 17.
  • With dewalt leaving the 17 after November, who will replace them as key sponsor of the 17?
  • i think its dumb for dewalt to leave them and um yea im guessing that citifinancial would be the main sponsor now and if not usg, carhartt or r.l. carriers will take over
  • I'm sure there are a few sponsors that will step to the plate. Kenseth is a former champ, high profile & seems like a pretty decent guy. I don't think his team will have too much trouble finding a new sponsor.
  • I am sure there are lots who would love to get on the hood of that car.
  • Well, with Michael Waltrip retiring maybe NAPA unless MWR adds a new team this upcoming season. Or they could just go with a Red Sox/ Lumber Liquidators scheme like this one here:
    http://soxanddawgs.com/2007/06/28/nascar-invades-red-sox-nation/

And don't forget he still has Carhartt, R+L Carriers, and USG.
  • Just to ask this question.

I'd say that USG, RL Carriers, and Carthart will be back.

One of those may step up

Irwin or Crown Royal might, but I dont think Irwin tools will because Dewalt just sponsored Kenseth.

But UPS could go to Kenseth and Irwin could go to Ragan or something like that.

But Citi Financial??? They sponsored the 16 Nationwide

Ritz Crackers- They are a RFR sponsor with NASCAR crackers, sponsored the 17 Nationwide car for one or 2 races.

    Ask.com could or Academy Sports.

Maybe ALL-Sport or Smallsponsor.com -- two 41 sponsors but that is unlikely.

    Bass Pro Shops could.

    UPDATE::!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

isnt RL carriers a transportation freight co., just like UPS, that may not work.
  • Matt is a former champ and I don't think anyone is going to leave him out in the cold. I do believe Ragan will be out and maybe then UPS will be going to Matt.
  • I hope it's some company with yellow and black colors if not there goes The Killer Bees !

  • Who thinks Red Bull Racing will win the formula 1 championship?

    May be...

  • Perhaps since Ross Brawn may have rested on its laurels, thinking they were so smart interpreting the rules differently, now they are going to get smoked the next couple races, but there is plenty of time left for Jensen and his girlfriend...I mean teammate to get things back in order.
  • just interested :)
  • I'd say they're now favorites to win the constructors championship, due to them having 2 competitive drivers, Brawn on the other have Rubens who spends too much time whingeing and not enough time winning!
I'd still say Button is favorite for the drivers championship, but Vettel could still make it a close thing.
  • At the moment I'd back Red Bull to win the constructors title, but Jenson Button to get the drivers crown.air canada alliance

Are all the NASCAR fans excited for the chase competition?

    May be...

  • I may not like the Chase, because I'm of the mind that consistency for the whole year is a true champion, but it is the system we have, and I try to get excited for it, especially now with Mark having 4 wins and so close to either making the Chase and starting in the top points spot and missing it, where those 4 wins don't amount to much if he can't win the Cup.
  • Very much indeed!!!
  • I don't like The Chase, and I never will..
Brian France thought he could gain interest by getting people involved in "the points standings".. It seems to have had the opposite effect, because most race fans, like to see what happens race, to race..
Involving them in "the standings" is just TMI.. It ruins the racing, and feels like an obligation of some kind that I don't want to keep track of..
  • I think the double file re-starts will keep things more interesting this year so, yes, I'm getting excited.
  • There are so many variables going into the chase , as of right now, that I wish the chase was starting this week. There's like no way of telling who is really ready to become the '09 Champion. I'm totally looking forward to guys like Tony and Jimmie getting evil on each other. And that isn't even including Mark, Kyle, Kurt, Carl, etc. Maybe you don't like the chase, but NASCAR has "us" (the fans) set up for some exciting competition this season. I'm totally stoked. What do you guys think?
  • I love the Chase. Do people just want to watch the points leader run away with the championship at the end of the year like he used to before the Chase? It's a playoff for NASCAR and it gives twelve drivers ten races to win the championship. Is it perfect? No. I think more could be done to reward drivers who finish at the top of the points. The Chase still creates a lot of excitement. Kyle Busch and Mark Martin are still close to falling out of the Chase. We know they're championship contenders if they get in. I think that gives a lot of people more of a reason to watch NASCAR towards the end of these 26 races.
  • I know I'm in the minority, but no. Not only 'cause I'm (and always will be) anti-Chase, but my driver's nowhere near making it.

    Bring on the thumbs downs!
  • i guess for Competition purposes but i think the chase is over rated but im looking forward to it any way..its racing.
  • It all depends on whether Jeff Burton makes the chase. If not, I'll have semi interest due to Mark Martin.
  • I don't like the Chase itself since it leads to points racing for the first 26 races, but at least in the last 10, the guys really have to fight it out. Maybe instead of just the 10 races, the Chase could be longer. Since those are the most exciting races with the top guys trying their hardest, it would improve the competition level for more of the season.Bring on the exciting races!
  • No, because the chase is NASCAR's contrived way of trying to keep fans interested in the late-season races once the MLB playoffs come around and the NFL season starts.

The last 10 races before the chase are brutal. Everyone races to stay out of each others' way because nobody wants to be known as "that guy who drove like an idiot and eliminated so-and-so from the chase."

Even the night race at Bristol, which is usually one of the year's best races, has been reduced from a slugfest to a milquetoast snoozer because of the faux drama created by the chase.
  • the chase sucks, if it weren't for that stupid chase, jr would be able to win a championship this year!!
but because nascar put the chase in, he's not even allowed to compete
  • My belief is this - the drivers who are 7th back to 12th should have no chance to win the Cup. 12th in points? There's 11 guys ahead of you who are better. The best driver is the one who gets the most points during a 36 race season. The Chase is defective. The only good thing is that the top three drivers in points all deserve a shot at the Cup this year, noone else has done well enough. Martin has four wins, but he has had many bad races besides that. Whoever wins it all this year will have to outrun Tony Stewart and Jimmy Johnson for 10 races. Good luck with that.
  • Totally stoked as well...like it or not the chase is what we have and even though its pretty predictable after maybbe the first one or two races its still exciting to watch. I would love to see a Tony Stewart Jimmie Johnson neck to neck in a few of those races....
  • Ive very excited about what the chase for the championship has in store for us. These last few races leading up to and including Richmond for the cut-off to the chase bring out some pretty dang good racing. The Chase, like it or not it is what we have to settle this and as a race fan Im stoked.
  • yes because it looks like there are mor than 3 competitors for it this time. Last year it was Busch, Johnson, and Edwards. Johnsons this year for sure, Busch possibly but at this rate no, and Edwards, i dont see being a contender for the chase. This year we have Godon and Stewart being MAJOR competitors. Plus Denny Hamlin and Mark Martin, this is sure to be better a chase than last year
  • absolutely

you cant call yourself a nascar fan if you dont like watching the chase
  • Hell Yeah! They should have a steel cage match!!! LOL
  • i love it. i hope Jaun Pablo Montoya and Mark Martin makes it in. too bad Kevin Harvick will miss it this year.
  • No. Just another gimmick. It makes it way more difficult for the other 31-35 teams to find and keep sponsors.
  • Totallyabsofrigginlutely stoked!!!!
  • I'm not.
I have always hated the chase since they started it.
It now comes down to who is the best driver for 10 races and NOT who is the best driver for the whole year.

Also you can never compare champs.
Stupid Commentators keep saying Jimmy tied Cale for being the only other to win 3 in a row.

No Jimmy Ties no one has he is the only Chaser to win 3 in a row.
Under the points Cale used Jimmy has 1. you can argue he has 2 in 3 years since last year he would have lost to Carl by 3 points, he would have drove harder to get a better finishes then he did.

Also Gordon would be a 6 time champion. He only has 4 from the chase since he had a bad race during the final 10 races.
  • yes, it will be exciting.bag carry rule

  • Do you think an automatic transmission would "fry up" in a NASCAR race car?

    May be...

  • Quicker than a scab at a Teamster strike.
  • no i dont think so the technology today they would figure something out
  • No, not really.
It would just do all the shifting for the drivers.
I've floored an automatic...it revs hard but it still shifts.

But I'm far from mechanically inclined, so don't hold me to that.
  • I think that a automatic would fry.Yes
  • You could add a big enough cooler and beef up the parts and pieces to handle it. Many really high horsepower drag cars use automatics without any trouble. There would be a really big learning curve though.
  • Do you think the heat and high r.p.m.'s would "fry" an automatic transmission in a NASCAR race car? And, would it cause more failures?
  • High rpm? A NASCAR typically revs at about 9500rpm on the big super-speedways. That's minuscule compared with say F1 which is limited to 19,000rpm.

Torque and stress more than anything else kills transmissions, and there are trucks which produce more torque than NASCARs.

So, NO. I think a "fry up" is a silly suggestion.
  • An automatic would work if it had a lockup converter strong enough to handle the power. Torque converter slippage is what makes the heat in an automatic. A drag car heats the fluid tremendously in 7 to 10 seconds. There is no way you can race for extended periods with a torque convertor.

It would have more power losses than the manual they use now though because of the oil pump in the automatic. This would reduce speeds.

Nascar is not going to allow any changes. It would just make more work for the tech crews and cost the teams more money.
  • If they can make an automatic transmission strong enough to use in an 18 wheeler to haul 80,000 pounds of goods cross country then they can make an automatic transmission strong enough to use in a race car. Just any transmission would not be capable. Also you would have to reroute the headers so as to keep the heat away from the transmission. In a road course it would be awesome because it would allow the driver to focus on working the steering wheel and the gas pedal. On a larger track however ... like Talladega and Daytona .... and also some tracks like Texas and Atlanta (as was stated by Beth) ... there would be some internal losses.

Every transmission suffers internal power losses. Automatics are worse.sprint trio 650

Is NASCAR back on track? I heard it was a "down" year?

    May be...

  • It's a down year for absolutely everything. I believe the worse is yet to come.
NASCAR needs to get their ticket prices back on track for anything to happen.
The chase format needs to reformulated/eliminated and a better point system put in place.
    Bonus for pole qualifying etc..
  • Dude!
    Are you high!?
    Wait 'till the chase!
    That didn't sound right...
    BUT WAIT 'TILL THE CHASE!
  • because some people were having trouble making ends meet while traveling great distances to attend events. Surely the price of gas , now, must be helping. But I guess If you have 25000 in debt, it could be a dollar and you'd still have trouble keeping up.
  • The price of gas may be down, but that is little help when you have been laid off. With no job, everything is difficult.

    May be...

  • hmmmmm just like me
  • I am 15 years old. Yes i am a girl. I live in Hutchinson, Ks. Hutch is a boring town with nothing to do. However we do have races at Fun Valley tracks, and i would LOVE to race. Problem is I dont know how to get started. I am starting from nothing. Please help.

    Thanks
    Brooke =]
  • talk to parents /family then get a part time job racing cost alot of money and you can help out dont get discouraged most drivers started with nothing unless u paul menard his dad is loaded keep racing and learning and one day youll be at the daytona 500 good luck
  • Hi Brooke,

This is the advice I give to everyone who asks this similar question! :)

    The First Step:

Go to your local race track (dirt or asphalt doesn't matter) and buy a pit pass if possible. Then go in and strike up a conversation with someone. Drivers, crew members and officials are all great resources with different perspectives on what it takes to get started at that track.

As long as they don't have pressing work to do most people will be more than happy to talk to you, but please be courteous.

Ask if they have a minimum age. Many tracks' age limit is lower than the state driving age. If you are too young to race at that track then someone will probably direct you to a local karting association.

There are definitely no "gimmies" here. Hard work, practice, natural skill, luck and money all play a roll in your ability to catch a break.

Becoming a NASCAR driver is not just about your raw racing talent. There are a number of other factors that will determine whether or not you will ever see a green flag in the NASCAR SPRINT Cup series.

    Physical Characteristics:

Racing at it's highest level is a physically demanding sport. 500 miles with a 120 degree track temperature can be brutal. A regular exercise program will improve your stamina and help you stay sharp over the course of a long hot race.

Also, a slim and toned driver will have an advantage over one that's heavier. In racing every pound counts and that includes the driver as well as the race car.

    Get A Good Education:

In NASCAR sponsors are the true key to success. You need every possible advantage in order to represent the sponsors well.

A good education gives you the ability to speak well in front of the camera.

A racer represents his sponsor everywhere he goes. If you want a quality ride then you need the sponsors' money. Before they will write a check the sponsor needs to believe that you will represent them well.

In the early days of NASCAR you could drop out of school and be successful, with today's high-tech race cars and the ever increasing business side of the sport a high school education is the bare minimum. 1992 Winston Cup Champ Alan Kulwicki was the first ever to have a college degree, now it's becoming more and more common as drivers are realizing the importance of a good education.

    Go For It!

Getting all the way to SPRINT Cup is hard work. If you want to do it there is no "little bit." You've got to give it your all, all the time. If you make it you can be a legend, but if you don't make it you'll still have a bunch of fun and learn a lot along the way.

Good luck! And don't forget me when you become rich and famous.

    - Now that's my general view of "making" it into the stock car realm. If you have any SPECIFIC questions, please do not hesitate to ask them.

Ryan9 - hope I could be of good help
  • You need lots of money.
  • First off is buy a car or kart or bike, whatever you want to race.

Then you have to practice, drive it around. It would help if your dad or friend knows something about cars, so he or she can adjust it to make it drive better.

After you get the feel for driving it, attend some races and watch the drivers. Also, there should be some way as how you can enter the next race, check that out. Sign up, pay the fee, and try your best to race.

If Hutch, KS is a small town, just drive through the fields to practice.

Also, after a few races, try to pick up a local sponsor for the hood of your car.

Good luck, if you have any other questions, just email me.intelisync for palm
  • How well has dodge done in nascar cup this year.?

    May be...

  • They've done fine. Kahne has won a race & is in 8th. Ku Busch also has a win & is sitting in 4th & JP Montoya has been very solid all year & is currently in 9th with some very good tracks for him still to come.
  • Not too bad Kurt Busch is sitting in 4th place and Kasey Kahne is sitting in 8th place!

18 Gibbs 20 = where are your guys! OH, their BOTH BEHIND DODGES!!!
    10th and 20th place!!!

    Sorry Maggie!
  • Not that well. Of the four makes in NASCAR they're at the bottom.
  • They have done alot better than last year. Kurt Busch has a win @ Atlanta & Kasey Kahne @ Sonoma. Penske's team as a whole for the exception of the #12 has done ok and RPM is getting better.
  • Kasey Kahne scored their only win in Sonoma.
  • I think Dodge has improved the Penske cars are better now that Petty racing switched engines to newer one the #9 Dodge has run better .

Over all Dodge has improved over last year still not quite there at the top with the likes of Hendrick or Stewart Haas ,Gibb , Roush cars .

Why do Formula one cars have to keep the same livery thru out the season?

    May be...

  • because of the sponsors, and usually they pay a lot to have their brands on F1 cars for a single or multiple years, so you can't imagine a car with a diffrent livery each Grand Prix
  • a team may lose or gain a sponsor throughout the course of the season... hence these sponsors may appear ... or disappear during the course of the season... hence there may be slight changes in the details...however the general appearance of the livery is retained...

eg : Virgin wasnt displayed in the Brawn during the first race , but after its stellar performance, Richard Branson immediately got on the bandwagon and became a sponsor ... hence Virgin was displayed... but only after the first race...
  • becuss that is important
  • formula one teams have the same sponsers all year, they dont change from race to race like nascar. They have contracts with each sponsor for that year so they have to keep the same livery. In the case of ferrari, marlboro owns the rights to all the space on the car, but then they sell space to other companies that want their name on that car for the year.kd 30xs955 best buy

  • Should they give Kyle Busch a stuffed Digger for a trophy?

    May be...

  • yea. he should be ashamed after what he did to that custom made guitar trophy he got. what an A$$hole.
  • I thought DW was Digger. They're both annoying and you can't get rid of either one of them.
Kyle is the man and can drive anything to victory even Digger!!!
  • He has to win it first..
  • Yes they should...not too many trophies left for him to win...
  • oh yes they sure should. I bet kyle would love it and squeeze it and do things to it I can not say. Maybe it should be a puppet digger. You know with a hole in it........

    Kasey Kahne Question?

    May be...

  • Is it true that Kasey Kahne is an Ohio State fan? My friend recently told me that and I didn't believe him, so I was just wondering if anyone knew the truth.
  • I have no clue... btw Kasey is an Washington State native, so if anything one of WA's teams maybe
  • Yes, sorry to say, it is true. In his article in the Sporting News' Nascar's most beautiful people issue, he said that he has liked them ever since he came out east although even he isn't sure why.
  • Yup, he's a buckeye fan..
  • I am not sure.

  • Thoughts on next weeks Indy race?

    May be...

  • I'll bet Juan Montoya will have a strong run. He had a great run in 07, and had a good run going until his tire exploded last year. Now the team is stronger, and EGR has run really well on flat tracks.
  • though im a kenseth fan i'd like to see jeff gordon win

seeing as matt isnt doing to well recently
  • Hm. I'm betting my money on Johnson and Stewart. Also let's hope the tires at the Brickyard this year are better than last year.
  • im hoping casey mears but...

im thinking AND hoping juan pablo montoya or stewart or johnson
  • I don't know who will win, but I sure hope its a better race than last year.
  • Mark Martin coming off the win will carry the momentum to indy and will run good he will be up front all day look for him to be a challenge for the victory at the end
  • ok whos gonna win will it be hometown heros tony stewart or ryan newman or would it be kyle busch. montoya knows his way around indy or will we see a first time winner
  • I think Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart have the best shot.
I wouldn't count out Kyle Busch or Jeff Gordon though, either!sd to compact flash convertor
