Firestone Indycar 300?

May be...

  • The interesting stuff starts at 9:30 on indycar.com. Live Video Streaming. You can also watch Live timing and scoring.
I'll be watching tonight as well.
    Whos your favorite?
  • The race will be on indycar.com @ 9 pm EST
  • Is there anywhere online that I can watch the Firestone Indycar 300 at Twin Ring Motegi live today because the race did not take place yesterday (I stayed up to 1:10 A.M. hoping it would take place) and was disappointed when I found out it would be postponed and will air on ESPNClassic, which I do not have.If you do know,it would help A LOT.

BTW,I like that IRL and Champ Car unified and for the long beach race champ car finale on sunday. Can't wait!
  • Lewis Hamilton?

    May be...

  • i agree a little bit
Lewis is a great driver though
he was almost last seasons champion
but this season h e is not that good
maybe in a little while and farther into the season he might get better
  • he needs to fail this season, and everyone will forget him,so let's say that then he'll settle down...
BTW,I totally agree with Cavallino Silver..
There was some favourising last year in Mclaren, and it was a little bit weird..
  • I'm reserving my judgement till the end of the season about Hamilton. Last year was an incredible start for him, this year he's wobbling a bit but lets wait and see.
  • Because of the great expection from his team, media, and from the crowd also... he became NERVOUS, making him inconsistent.
  • I really think in 2007 he had some help from the mechanics when Alonso was there.. honestly, he was really good for a rookie but all of a sudden he started to take not 2 or 3 tenths but 6 tenths faster than Alonso? I mean Alonso has not only driven against Fisi (a good driver and good qualifyer) but also with Trulli who is considered one of the best qualifiers out there and has beaten both and all of a sudden a rookie laps more than half a second faster?? What are the odds of that.. 6 TENTHS its crazy!

Piquet was at least as good as Hamilton in GP2 while Hamilton was driving for world champions ART grand prix and Piquet driving for a mediocre team Piquet sports, Piquet was beating Hamilton badly in the second half of the season. Yet Piquet is nowhere near Alonso although one could argue that someone in Renault is slowing Piquet down. Or that the handling problems of the R28 dont allow Piquet to show his true potential, whatever the reason, there's something strange about this. We should see in the next races I guess, maybe Lewis could win and shut me up! I hope so.. Or if its not him then Kovy! But I dont wanna see Ron on the podium that's lame..
  • No offence to the guy or anything, but don't you think he is a bit over-hyped. i mean sometimes he can produce absolubtly breathtaking moments but in other races he's not as good as a toyota! Do you think us britts r pushing him too hard or slightly over-rating him? i mean he's one season into his F1 career and when the program goes off for adverts his face is on there. i think we shud leave him alone for a while.

    DOES ANYONE AGREE WITH ME?

    Car Question???

    May be...

  • ask ne i got a racecar i konw a lot
  • How can i be one of those guys that knows a ton about cars, any pointers so that i can talk with people who know a lot and know what im talking about???
  • car magazines and websites are a good start. autozone has a website that instructs beginners on basic mechanic skills like changing oil, tuneups etc. It also gets more in depth I think but I'm not sure. The best way is to buy an older car that needs work and learn as you go. Thats how I did it.
  • You should maybe join a chat room or something that solely revolves around cars. That way you can have a flowing conversation. Or, if you can, go visit car shows, fairs, or dealerships and talk to people around there! If your interested in working with cars, you could maybe get an intership or job if your old enough. good luck
  • Who was the youngest driver ever to retire from F1?

    May be...

  • Tuero
  • I think Mike Thackwell was the youngest to retire from a race, but career wise as others have said, Ebastien Tuero.
  • You're looking for a driver who actually retired.

(The youngest driver ever to have a "last" GP was Ricardo Rodriguez, but his career was cut short by his death, not his retirement.)
  • Montoya or Yoong. One is doing Nascar and the other one is doing whatever he can to stay in motorsport trying out speedcar and a1gp so i guess they aren't really retired from racing but they are retired from F1, sort of.
  • Hmm... Scott Speed comes to mind but did he actually retire?
  • How many of you are Rowdy?

    May be...

  • Its okay.....I can be Rowdy enough my self when I want to be..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I may be rowdy, but it has nothing to do with that website! Thanks but no thanks! Not that great.

    go Jr.>>>>
  • I'm rowdy for Rowdy Busch, not so much for your sight,

to "Step into the freezer" he's colicky?
Never heard of an adult with colic before...
  • I checked out the site, but was a little annoyed that I couldn't look at the second page of pictures of a driver without it going back too the home page.
  • the Jeff Gordon theatre was pretty freakin' funny man
  • OK, I've signed up, and will tell you about it after Dega.
  • I' m Jim........... not Rowdy
  • I have checked it out--It seems to have too Much Non Nascar stuff on it for me!!!!!!
  • Not yet site looks dorky but will probably catch on. I thought at first when I saw your question it was about kyle busch, who I liked until he drove a toy except for the fact he's colicky he's a good driver.
  • I don't like it. I only use Myspace and Infieldparking.com. Rowdy is competition with my website because they offer news.
  • I like the page settup. Good color scheme. Easy to navigate with some cool things that are immediately noticed. I'll add to my favorites.
  • Since its a beta site, I won't create one yet.

I run my own NASCAR site on Xanga.

It has info, stats, opinions, and much much more.

Join Xanga, and we can talk a lot about NASCAR.

  • There is a NASCAR fansite and podcast called Rowdy, and I was wondering if any of you had heard of it and participate on it? I'm a regular. Go check it out and let me know what you think!

Bullrun on spike tv car racing?

    May be...

  • Bullrun is gay. A bunch of americans who know nothing about cars basically just copied the gumball rally.
  • team 9 trans am won the last one
and i think another sesion is coming out soon like maybe in the summer
  • 2 quick questions
1=who won the last bull run show
2=when is the new one coming out or is there one coming out?
  • How can anyone like Montoya?

    May be...

  • I don't like him anyway but the video provides even more proof he's a f$%^&*in' idiot!! LOL
  • I never did like him. For those that said he was hit in the back of the head, watch again. The cameraman and JPM were both not paying attention

If it had been in a race, it would have just been a racing incident. If JPM was watching where he was going it wouldn't have happened.
  • He definitely likes to use the effen Word!!!!!!!
  • dude this is going over the line montoya may have a bad attitude but this guy is right behind kasey kahne in the high dodge category ok u got that if he was in a good car he may be top ten material i dont like him but u got to appreciate talent ok i have a QUESTION FOR U HOW ARE U A ELLIOT SADLER FAN I UNDERSTAND IF U LIKE THE GUY BUT U SAY HES YOUR FAVRIOTE WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SADLER FINISHED IN THE TOP FIVE OR TOP TEN and SADLER IS YOUR FAV WHEN U HAVE PENSKE , HENDRICK , JGR, RCR , AND ROUSH AND KASEY KAHNE to root for
  • If you like him as a driver, then you must respect him from his previous background in different cars. If you like him as a person, then you probably watched him and his family on the ABC series on NASCAR last year. Otherwise, his on-track persona and attitude just don't do anything for me.
  • no clue and I don't know why ESPN is sooooo in love with him either
  • I may be wrong but he just got hit in the head with a 50 lb camera. Would you ask the camera man out on a date after that?

I don't see your point Thomas. Sorry kid.. Try again.

Sadler stinks. Get over it. Come on Tom. Cameramen are better then that. Thats ridiculous. Ok so Sadler doesn't stink but he's not really that great either. Hint hint..
  • Watch this video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtjBLN8Mx...
  • if I was Juan I would have kicked out one of the camera mans knee caps, without uttering a word.
  • First of all, watch the video close. The camera man hit him in the back of the head. The camera man was just to f***ing wired up about getting a nascar driver on video that he stepped into Montoya. Montoya adds that extra excitement to nascar that has been gone scents Big E left us. Don't let some horny camera man mislead you. Just pay attention to the video.
  • Who is the biggest whiner in Nascar?

    May be...

  • Gotta be Tony Stewart.. everything is everybody else's fault with him.. Now I do believe he is a really great driver..but hate his whining.
  • I'm going with Jeremy Mayfield.
  • how could susan say mark martin is she a moron or what. it has montoya. so much hype not much to show
  • Seems to be any driver who speaks their mind.
  • I'm going with Smoke.. but all drivers whine and complain sometime...But Smoke is just more vocal.. Yes, Superdave Johnny Sauter he is in a category all by himself..
  • Im going to say Johnny Sauter, that man can cry a river. He is the worst I have ever seen.
  • Kyle Busch
    Robby Gordon
  • Fans of the drivers who finish any place other than 1st.
  • This question is based upon who you are and are not a fan of. So, there is no true answer.
  • Tony Stewart hands down. That's why the chase includes 12 drivers instead of 10 now.
  • Tony Stewart.

    Tom P, it's still digress.................
  • Tony Stewart.
  • both of the bush brothers and tony and jeremy mayfield
  • Probably Denny Hamlin. At least when some of the other drivers are "whining," they're doing it for a specific purpose (i.e. Stewart and the Goodyear thing) вЂ" albeit though they're maybe going about it in the wrong way вЂ" but Hamlin just complains about everything. He's got a complex, almost.
  • Tie,

    Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon.
  • I'm going to take acception to the constant "Tony Stewart" as the biggest whiner, Tony talks about problems and calls it like it is-

Now as far as the real biggest whiner in NASCAR-well, that would have to be owner Jack Roush
  • TONY STEWART
  • Everyone who blogs here or writes to 'Nascar Scene' about Hendricks conspiracies.
  • Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch.
  • It is too subjective and fans of somebody will just say whoever the rival driver is. One thing I've noticed is no driver can speak their mind without it being labeled as "whining" from people that don't like that particular driver. The drivers that get the most microphones shoved in their face will undoubtedly get labeled as whiners. Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart will be what most people say but Kyle Busch has a tendency to complain more than most others, in my opinion. He even complains a lot when he has won or run pretty good. Much of the time he just doesn't seem very grateful for the opportunity he has. I suspect he will mature and get over this "phase" he seems to being going through and I really think he will win championships down the road.
  • Tony Stewart, Mark Martin and Kurt Busch
  • Sebastian Bourdais?

    May be...

  • Yes, they can rebuild the car before the Turkish GP but that doesn't mean they will be taking it there.
Trouble is they couldn't rebuild the car in time for the last day of testing in Barcelona and they need to test the car thoroughly before taking it to a GP and there's no other test day between Barcelona and Turkey.
So they'll probably postpone it's debut until the next race.
I think Paul Ricard is the next test.
  • I think it's a bit odd, that after one crash, that could happen at any event, the team are saying they have to delay racing it coz it needs rebuilding.... What they really mean is that they'll have to get Red Bull to build another RB4 for them....
  • I don't think so. They should make Bourdais help fix it as punishment for crashing it.
  • Of course they can. This is F1 man, where teams have big budgets (with the exception of SA of course). =p
  • Do you think that the team can rebuild the new car before the turkish grand prix?

    http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2...
  • I hope so - the Turkish GP is 9-11 May, there is one b4 that 25-27 April Catalunya, doubt they are going to miss 2 GP's
  • NASCAR tracks?

    May be...

  • Daytona was great. (I went this past February) Bristol would be GREAT but Texas is good too!

So my choices would be (in this order) Daytona, Texas and Bristol.

Have fun, what a GREAT gift!
  • that would be soooooo nice of u i would do it it i where u i am kneow to yahoo ansers and it it sooo fun telling people things
  • Talladega....
    Its the ULTIMATE NASCAR EXPIERENCE!!
  • Stick to old school tracks like Martinsville, Darlington or Richmond. They will appreciate the thought and love the race no matter where you get them tickets to. The night race at Bristol would also be awesome but is one of the toughest tickets to get in all of sports. One other place to consider is Charlotte. They would enjoy going around to the different shops, museums and team headquarters located in the immediate area if they have not been there before.
  • Daytona by far
  • The July Daytona race is always exciting, as is the August race at Bristol. Talladega is always fun, but because of the lack of hotels nearby, your parents would likely have to camp. That being said driver access at Talladega is incredible. Races at Darlington are always exciting, and now that the track has been repaved and the speeds are up near 200 mph, it could definitely be an exciting race. If your parents have never been to a race, I would also suggest springing for pit passes; getting that close to the teams and cars is an opportunity worth it for first-time race goers.
  • You have it nailed.
  • Daytona or the brickyard
  • to be honest with you, I think any of nascars tracks are fun to go to As long as they arent the road courses those arent very fun, Ive been to a few tracks and they are equally as fun, each track has its own quirks and unique experiences
  • Lowes Motor Speedway is a great racetrack. Great atmosphere. Bristol...well what can I say about Bristol. If price is no concern, go with Bristol in August. Awesome place.

I've never been, but really want to go to Richmond. Everyone tells me it's fantastic as well. Richmond always has great racing when I watch on TV, so it would probably be pretty sweet in person too.
  • I'm treating myself to the August race at Bristol, as it is my birthday. Bristol is a good one. Obviously The 500 would be great. My first race was the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Even though Mears won on fuel mileage, I was not disappointed.
  • Bristol would be hard to get tickets for unless you want to pay outrageous prices for tickets. send them to the Daytona 500, they will have a great time.
  • Both great tracks. Lucky parents!! You more than likely not be able to get tickets to the Bristol night race. Its sold out way way in advance. About the only way to get tickets for that is either from a scalper at the track or buy them off EBay(which will be expensive). Daytona is a great track also, Ive never been there but plan to in the near future. There are usually quite a few tickets available before the 500 in February. Great present by the way!
  • Bristol Night Race
    Daytona Night Race
    Lowe's All Star Challenge
    Lowes Coca Cola 600
  • The Daytona 500!!!!!!
  • They're all oval shaped, whatever's closest to you.
  • you got the two best tracks. Daytona and Bristol.

I would say Daytona 1st then Bristol
  • Ask your parents...in a sly way. Just start talking about the race and somehow bring up....So what's your favorite track? or if you could go to any race which would it be?

Not saying we couldn't give you good advice but it would be better hearing it from your parents...that way you know they will LOVE it when you surprise them for their anniversary.
  • I am thinking of buying my parents NASCAR tickets for their anniversary, I was wondering what track is the best. I watch NASCAR but I am not as 'into' it as my parents are! I was thinking daytona, but i wanted to have your input.
Price not really a big deal. Location not really a big deal either.
I was thinking Daytona or bristol night race, but any input will help, like i said i dont know much about the tracks.
  • Daytona wouldn't be a bad bet.
Bristol neither but those tickets would be pretty hard to come by though.

But I think Daytona. It kinda comes with more prestige.
  • Daytona is done this year to the best of my knowledge... Poccono is a great track, lots of speed (fastest track in NASCAR) and tight turns... usually has quite a bit of crashes, as well as tons of history. Bristol is good also, or you can even get Indianapolis, very well known for its history and has a museum within the city based off of racing like DAYTONA does.
  • How many laps do you think?

    May be...

  • He will not only finish all laps but he will win!!! Go JR.
  • dale jr will make the upcomming race i think he might just make them all or have a crash on the last turn { not unlike other earnhardts we know ]
  • He is going to win dega!!!!!!!!!
  • He's gonna lead the most important lap..the last one and win. Now he has decent equipment to drive, he can do it..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Junior is about to be plagued by 'The Media Curse.' He has been praised (more then usual) the last couple of races and after Phoenix, he was the main story on nascar.com and yahoo! sports.

You probably have no idea what I'm talking about... lemme explain.

Before the Texas race, the Speed TV crew on Raceday applauded Biffle for being 3rd place in standings. On that same day, he had problems... finished a nice 39th and is currently 10th in the standings.

Phoenix race, Mike Joy and Larry Mac were excited to mention that Sadler was running in fourth... WAS. That ended in disaster and in 41st.

I could go on... but I have a super poor memory. All I know is, me and my dad can foresee the next Yellow Flag just by listening to the announcers. Whenever a driver is being talked about, they tend to hit the wall. Hey, this could be a coincidence... or is it?
  • He'll be in the garage by halfway point (100 laps).
Junebug's winless streak continues, BugHeadNation throws Amp cans all over the track again :^(
  • To answer your supposed question, all 200.

DUH about Jr making the race. About the crash on the last turn thing, I smell a troll here. PEW!
  • I think he will finish them all Unless he gets took out in the BIG ONE!!!!!!!
  • unless something unforeseen happens, i think he'll finish them all...
  • all of 'em
    (who's we?)
  • he willl crash on lap 147
  • Unless he is taken out in a wreck he should complete all 200 at Talladega.
  • i think he will definitely finish and at last top five like he has been doing
  • F1 quiz! 10 points for the first person to answer ALL right?

  • Is montoya going to race at mexico?

    May be...

  • No!!!!!
  • ^^^^^^^^^^^....the biggest waste of space ever....^^^^^^^^^^^^
  • Best road racer ever wrecked Scott Pruett to win.
  • No. Why waste all that space (and our time) with that format of your question?

As far as your question, no , he will not race.

Lucky dog rule by Nascar is ok, but part of it is not fair, see details and let me know if you agree?

    May be...

  • Although it may have been on purpose, or may not have been... that arguement will have to be answered seperately.

However, the reason why Biffle happened to get that paticular pass was the fact that by the rules of NASCAR he had PASSED the car that was on the track in front of him in positions. (Meaning that while Newman is in the process of spinning out of control he is 'passed' by Biffle.)

Therefore when NASCAR decided that time had come to put out the yellow flag, Biffle's position was the first car a lap down and therefore he automatically got the 'lucky dog'.

However the better way to improve the 'lucky dog' rule would be to combine old-school with new. Let the flag come out, everyone continue to race to the start/finish line like the days of old, THEN after that's done take the first car down and use the 'lucky dog' rule. This would make it more harmful for someone to 'wall' another driver for the risk of being involved as well and loosing his spot by the time they get back to the finish line.
  • I completely agree with you. Between this "lucky (spinner) dog" rule and the top 35 rule this sport is becoming a bunch of BS politics.
  • Yes, it would seem that there is the proverbial loophole in the Lucky Dog Rule.

But, don't be surprised if NASCAR didn't already know about it.

They have made it clear that they will not tolerate "aggressive driving". Biff got away with this one.

The rule also states that the car that "caused the caution" is not eligible to receive the free pass. That is entirely up to the NASCAR officials to decide WHO caused the yellow.

I bet they park a few drivers before long, or hand out big penalties for doing this.
  • I agree, NASCAR should change the rule. I never thought about it, but its true.
  • You have pointed out the major flaw in the rule. Biffle obviously knew this loophole and used it to his advantage denying Newman the free pass. Jeff Gordon also said that it would be best to put the lucky dog directly ahead of the leader on the tail end of the lead lap and if he can stay ahead of the leader until the next caution then he can get back with the lead lap cars. I have never liked this rule.
  • Yes I agree!!!!!
  • If it becomes an issue, then Nascar will act accordingly I'm sure.
  • I don't think Biffle wrecked him on purpose and further more if these drivers second down start doing this, NASCAR will just penalize them for rough driving. This is a non-issue in my opinion. We've had this rule for what 3 or 4 years now and we just haven't seen this happening and causing wide spread problems.
  • You have a great point. I agree 100%. I think they need to get rid of the lucky dog and just let them race back to the line. It is dangerous, but it is so exciting.
  • I agree I think that you do open another pandoras box if you let Nascar make some more of there "judgement calls". It would be tuff if multiple cars were involved and it was not as cut and dry as what you mentioned. It is something to look at especially if we started seeing this happen a lot!!!
  • You really have noi clue do you?
Try to imagine cars in the middle of the back spending more time driving in there mirror while being passed by real racers with position. You should lose your "Guy Card" for such a
    lame comment.
    Mike
    Speedway,Indiana
  • I agree with you 200%

    Go Jeff Gordon.
  • I agree with you 110%
  • You won't see people intentionally spinning out other cars. Dale Sr doesn't race anymore.
  • the part of the rule that is not fair, is the part where the first driver a lap down does not get the lucky dog pass if he is involved in the caution, It should be modified to say ( unless the caution is caused by the second man down. here is why.
In Texas 2 weeks ago, Newman was the first man down to get the lucky dog pass, Biffle was the second man down, Biffle then hit Newman in the left back fender of the car, causing Newman to spin out of control, Caution is out and Newman is denied the lucky dog pass cause he is involved in the caution, they then give the lucky dog pass to Biffle, If this rule is not modified, you will start seeing the second man down, purposely spinning out the first man to to cause a caution and the second man gets the lucky dog, Looks to me like Biffle has that already figured out, and spun Newman out on purp[ose.
  • I agree with u 100 % and u r right, The Biff new exactly what he was doing and didn't he finish in the top 5?

10 point for who writes best answers and gets most right
  • two of those questions could refer to his career before F1.

    could you clarify?
  • 1. Ayrton Senna won his first championship for the Marlboro McLaren Honda Team in 1988 by beating teammate Alain Prost for the win and the title at Suzuka, Japan.
    2. May 1st 1994, he crashed heavily whilst leading the race in his Rothmans Williams Renault FW16, at the San Marino Grand Prix held at Imola in the Tamborello Curve following a steering rod failure which blew out and ended up going through his visor and into his head above the right eye. He was declared dead that evening at 18:40 Local time at the Majore Hospital in Bologna.
    3. 1984 - Toleman Hart
    1985-86 - JPS Lotus Renault
    1987 - Camel Lotus Honda

    5. 3 times (1988, 1990, 1991)
    6. Monza 2000, Schumacher cried at the Press Conference after winning the race and equaling Senna's record...
  • It's not a quiz if you just come back and answer with another profile...if you want to cheat like that you have to make the answers look less prepared. Who would really write the different sponsors of Lotus as different teams? Seriously?

  • No thanks!!!
  • No, unfortunately I just don't have the time. One of these days, maybe.

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • I think I might do that next year, because the nascar.com fantasy games frustrate me...

I chose Matt Kenseth for Texas and it didn't give me any points. Then I chose Johnson for Phoenix and it ignored me again!

So I'll join your team next year most likely... I'm a 24/7 NASCAR fan, all 365 days of the year.
  • No, I don't. I think fantasy sports anything is the lamest thing I ever heard of.
  • No, I don't.
  • No I dont!!!!!!

  • Why did you pick your favorite driver?

    May be...

  • To tell you the truth. I don't really know. It has something to do with the kind of car he drives. Which would be a Dodge. And after that it just has to do with if the driver is doing good. And he was when I was looking for a driver so, I just picked him. If you wondering who 'he' is its Kasey Kahne.
  • I picked Jeff Gordon because my dad liked him, and he watched him on Thursday night thunder on ESPN when he was driving sprints.
  • i picked kyle busch because he leads alot and he is a aggresive driver and not that many people like him
  • Kenseth when he started out his consistency, determination and the fact that he does not have to crash someone else he has a racers mind and determination, love that 17!
  • I started out with Dale Earnhardt Sr because of his on track arrogance but stayed in the family after his death. Jr. is totally different but is definitely committed to winning.
  • Style and aggressiveness.

    The #20 car ROCKS!!!!!!!!
  • I had followed racing for a few years before I really latched on to a clear cut favorite. At first I liked Jeremy Mayfield and Elliott Sadler, they were some of the newer guys when I first started paying attention to NASCAR. I didn't just want to go for a guy that already had a big following. When Jimmie Johnson started I caught his first races in 2001, I liked his car and he seemed pretty decent. When he had a full schedule in 2002, I really respected what he did so early in his career. The battle for ROTY between Jimmie and Ryan Newman was awesome (I still don't know how Ryan won when Jimmie beat him in the final standings). I met my wife in 2001 also, and she got into racing because of me. She liked Jimmie as well and thought he was good looking. I'm no wagon jumper and even have a 2002 Jimmie Johnson Jacket that has the WINSTON Cup logo on it, I'm wearing it today in fact. We like Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle and a few others but Jimmie is by far our favorite. 3 STR8 N '08!!!
  • I picked tony stewart because when i was at an autograph session it was all over and i missed it but Tony was nice enough to give me one (2003 i was 7)
  • Family, friends, and geography. My dad grew up in the Carolinas and was very proud of it. In the 80's, he started liking Dale Earnhardt Sr. Then, when he died, my dad and I, among many others most likely, chose Jr. Dale Earnhardt was friends with many drivers off of the track, but stayed competitive when racing. Now that Jr. still is voted fan favorite, that doesn't mean he is the best.
  • I picked Mark Martin back in the mid nineties when I was old enough to really pay attention to the sport. That was when he was winning a few races every season and flirting with the championship. I chose him because of his respect for the sport and the way he is a class act all the way around. He is very close to his fans and always makes time for them no matter what the situation is. Today he is just the same as he was then. When he loses races, like the Daytona 500 and last weekend, he keeps his chin up and immediately shifts his focus to the next race. I think when Mark does finally hang it up all together it will leave a void at the racetrack that no one can fill.
  • When i started watchin nascar around 1997/1998. I was too young to understand lots of things i just watched it for wrecks and stuff, but in the 1999 TranSouth Finacial 400 (Darlington). Jeff Burton came off turn 4 (wreck ahead of him) and plowed straight threw the mess and wrecked his car pretty badly, but then the rain started to pour and he won the race with a complety wrecked car. So thats when i started to like Burton. And ive stayed with him ever since, even during 2002-2005 when he had bad years.

Go RCR! Jeff Burton 100% Completion!
  • Because I like drivers who are underdogs.
I like Martin Truex Jr and Paul Menard and Regan Smith and Aric Almirola and Mark Martin. To sum it up DEI. They are all talented and I like them all.
  • Because I like Chevrolet and real folks so I picked Dale Earnhardt and by default his son Dale Jr. Also a Dale Jr fan because I admire his poise in the sudden terrible loss of his dad. I lost my Mom suddenly and my dad and can appreciate the kind of strength it takes to go through something like that.
  • I picked Carl Edwards because for his first win he inched by Jimmie Johnson and then for a celebration he didn't do the traditional Spin out instead he did a Backflip! Also he has a good attitude and he is always smiling and that made me like him too!
  • I think my first fav's were whoever my dad was rooting for. (naturally)

As I got older, I started to pay a little more attention to what they did outside the car.

I really don't have a "favorite" driver, or team, or manufacturer.

I have preferences, but I don't go throwing a hissy fir if the driver I am rooting for in a particular race does not win.
  • I think car make is the most important thing - we all have our ford, chevy, and dodge preference. And above all, the three different fans should unite against the foreign make.
When Rusty went to the Dodge years ago my loyalty did stick with him. However, Dale Jarrett was dead to me in a Toyota.

But I'm a ford guy first. Next I look at a combination of sponcers and the driver himself.

I like Kenseth because of Dewalt tools (a real man's sponcer...not playtex tampons) and I love Carhartt products. Kenseth is a scrappy fellow willing to tangle with Jeff Gordon, Stewart, Robbie Gordon, and Harvick. We need more people like Kenseth who will fight back when someone runs them off the track on purpose.
  • Well I was a Richard Petty fan and when he retired in 92 it was Jeff Gordon's first race and I had noticed him in Busch racing and liked him so I satrted pulling for him.
  • I picked Jeff Burton because of what Dale Earnhardt, Sr. said about him. "Any man that car drive a race car with pink on it has to have big balls, and gets my respect." The old Excide Batteries #99 Thunder bird was black, with a pink strip at the bottom. Earnhardt, Sr. drove a pink car may years ago. It was the K-2 car. In 1994 J. Burton drove the #8 Raybestos car, and won the rookie of the year. I've been a fan every scenes.
  • I like Tony Stewart for a couple of reasons. The Home Depot team promotes him a lot, so his car is at our Home Depot on display at least once a year. He's also in our area at least once a year for a PR stop. I have met him, he's a cool guy in person.

How is the purse divides btwn drivers? Jr got 99K while Hornish got 114K and finished 13 places after Jr @ PHX

    May be...

  • Lol yeah this is confusing stuff here... but you didnt even notice Ryan Newman finished dead last and only drove 134 laps and made $110,000?
  • There are different awards and such that a driver can win, tacking on extra money to his race winnings. Newman for example, won the pole, so he probably got something from Subway as the sponsor of the race. Hornish was probably the rookie of the week last week at Texas, and got money for that. There's probably a list on www.nascar.com or www.jayski.com of awards drivers can get.
  • Go here - http://www.nascar.com/2002/kyn/nascar_10...

then go to my website for more nascar - http://fanzone.webng.com
  • There are different sponsorship and incentive programs. Also, some sponsor specific laps.
  • Different Prize Money awards and Incentive from the Track and Certain Sponsors- and the Drivers contracts have a bearing on things.!!!!!!
  • It's a complicated system that I have a hard time understanding as well. Different sponsors will provide money for say, the leader halfway through the race or passing the most cars. Also, sponsor money and qualifying can add to the driver's purse.
  • The purses are awarded in amounts of descending order, yes. Sponsorship money will be higher for some drivers than others. Jr has a ton of sponsers, same for #24 and #48. They award contingency money for displaying a decal on the car and an emblem on their uniform. Some drivers have a sponser only for them, that the other 42 drivers won't have. These are besides their primary sponsers. Hope this helps!
  • After looking at the winning purse after Phoenix race, I noticed that Sam Hornish Jr made over $114,000 while finishing 13 places behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr made over $99,000 and finishes 7th place? Someone helps me understand this dilemma.
  • Sponsors pay differently, lap bonus', etc.

Each driver has his own deal with his Team owner and sponsor.
  • Was that not one crazy (and stupid) pit stop by Ryan Newman on Sat.?

    May be...

  • What Jason F said- fact is, Ryan couldn't do any better.
  • i know ive never seen someone **** that much
  • He really had no choice in the matter. His car was throwing oil everywhere (he lost the front main engine seal). He simply slid on the oil that his own car was spewing out as he tried to slow and stop for his pit box.

....He wasn't mad, Brother, he just couldn't help it.
  • I was at the race sitting right in front of Newmans stall. His car was throwing all kinds of oil. (Part of the reason for the red flag) Anyway, he got oil under his tire, broke loose, and spun the car. I dont think it was stupidity at all.
  • He had 0 traction as his Engine was gone!!!!!!!
  • I was there, his car had oil, fluid everywhere, Rocketman couldn't help it..To bad he had another equipment failure, he looked so bummed out..
  • Just oil on the track and on his tires.

He had blown his engine, or main seal and the oil was just going everywhere.

Trying to keep a straight line like that is like trying to stop sliding on ice with your butt cheeks.

It looks like fun until you hit the shoreline.
  • there kind was oil and it really wasnt his fault newman is a nice guy i dont think he would want to hurt any of his pit crew guys
  • Was he speeding down pit lane or something to come into his pit stall and just spin around the way he did? Nobody was on pit road to bump him or be in his way. He really had no reason to do a 180 or whatever in his pit stall.

I'm glad his pit crew didn't go over the wall before he arrived (like they do to change right side tires) because someone would had gotten seriously hurt.
  • In formula 1 how many lights are there to signal the start of the race?

    May be...

  • I've been trying to research this on line but all I can find is the fact that green lights are no longer used and a random sequence is instead, but how many lights are used?
  • the green light is only on during practice and qualifying and at the start of a race 5 red lights go on and when they go out the race starts.
  • There are 5 red lights, which go out 1 by 1 to count down to the start. the lights are out its go go go
  • 5 lights - each comes on with a random time gap before they come out and when the 5 lights go out, the race is on... the pit lane has a red and green light indicating when it is closed/open.
  • 5 lights
  • From what ive seen, 4.

Just wondering about rules for cautions?

    May be...

  • its a conspiracy :/
  • I wondered the same thing, I think it was because the leader didnt have a 2+sec lead when Kasey wrecked. Thats why there was no caution. nascar is playing favroites again.
  • I thought the same thing. It looked like there should had been a caution for debris.
  • Last night, Ryan Newman was leading, he had a pretty good lead on the rest of the field. Out of no where a caution came for debris (they never did show the debris). Now, late in the race Kasey Kahne cut a tire and scraped the wall, as he was getting on to the apron to get to the pits, what seemed to be a brake pad came off Kasey's car and I believe it was Mark Martin who almost ran over it. (It was all caught on tape) No caution for that. Just wondering why there was no caution at that time? Could it be because the leader didnt have a 2+ sec. lead on the pack? hhmmm
  • I was wondering the same when I saw the brake pad fly but then I thought about it and figured even NASCAR gets sick of throwing cautions for the GEM team. They need their own landfill with all the debris they create every weekend.

    Ouch!
  • i really dont think a brake pad could do any damage and they did show the debris and also after martin ran over the pad the pad went on the side right by the grass no one could run over that good question
  • Every time someone has a big lead ,you can count on a caution. That is one of the best ways nascar has to manipulate the races. And I would bet my last dollar this will not be the last time it happens.NASCAR is so desperate, or controlling, to get tight finishes , they are about to ruin the sport.
  • There are rules for cautions? lol
  • There has been alot of Talk on here about Phantom Debris cautions--This could have been the case!!!!!
  • *cough* bougus!

    Who said that?
  • Ryan Newman's a hottie.
  • What class do i have to take to be a NASCAR anysit for collage?

    May be...

  • yeah , i would start with spelling and english for you .
  • English comprehension and spelling.
  • I agree with Lynn 100%. Only she forgot to mention a writing course that includes lots of mechanics including grammar and capitalization.
  • Journalism!!!!!!!!
  • Are you going to the nascar Michigan race in June? ~wink~stars~?

    May be...

  • nope
  • I live 15 minutes from the track. I will watch the race on TV at home, where the beer is cheaper and the lines to the bathroom are shorter.
  • Yes I am going to that race--I am not a winking blinking star however!!!!!!!
  • Possibly. I am going to Darlington and both May LMS races so I may be too poor to go! I teach in NC and school gets out on June 13th. So, if I am able to make it home (I am from MI) by Sunday I will be there. :)
  • no i don't go
  • no ive been to many indy car races,,

never been to nascar race,, and dont feel like messing with all that traffic,,

its bad enough getting out of there after an indy event,, and not many people

also ,, the one yr when indy split, we went to the us 500, and there was as many people as a nascar event , over 140,000 plus,
never again,, we waited 4 hours and traffic was still bumper to bumper,,
  • no but i will watch on tv i wanna see that race because that race will show if kurt busch is a contender this year or not

    michigan and pocono
  • Should mark martin be fined?

    May be...

  • What for? He didn't cuss and he told the truth.
  • NO...Just retire dude..go help your son....give the ride to Aric...
  • That got me thinking. An old timer and respected driver like him would not say something like that unless it happens.

Notice how Mike Joy and company did not say a damn thing about what Mark said.
  • Naa... It does happen !!
  • No--Why fine him for Speaking His Mind--He used No Profanity!!!!!!!
  • no they don't penalize or fine the old ones anymore... but seriously he didn't curse or anything so no he shouldn't and won't get penalized
  • he said he hopes they dont throw a bogus caution if tony stewart said that nascar would be all over it.
  • with no profanity involved,he probably wont. he was just thinking out loud. lol
  • you got to be kidding me? Dale Jr should be fined for making up excuses all these years to why he can't win races.
  • That shows Marks defeated attitude. If you think bad things will always happen they will. I like Mark and respect him immensely but he has to change that attitude or he will never win again.
  • Mark knows the truth about the WWE on wheels :^)
  • They didn't fine Kyle Petty last year at the road course for saying & I quote "What the f--- was that?" Then no they should not fine Mark Martin or anyone else for that matter.
  • Who could in their right mind find a reason to fine him for making a statement like he did? I consider the radio traffic between the driver and crew/spotter to be between them and they should be able to talk without fear of penalty. Report It
  • Why fine the truth?
  •
