  • Where will gordon get his 2nd win this year?

    May be...

  • I'll say none of those but he will win at Watkin's Glen.
  • Darlington is my pick but he very well could win tonight. He is on a championship winning kinda roll.
  • Oh, I say homestead. frum there? Errrr.... NONE!!!!! HA!! I hope Gordon crashes.

    unfortunately, probably DEGA.
  • Talladega, because the 5 car is winning tonight (I hope), so that leaves the next race, which is Dega. I'll be happy just if Mark pulls out of there with a top 10, and in one piece.
  • i have him winning at dega
  • Can we really say? Who knows, JG may not win again this year. Not meaning to sound cruel, but I don't care to predict this.
  • Darlington is one of Gordons best tracks in the last few years You gota belive he'll win there. However he can easily win at any of the next three races. And Jeff is known for back to back wins.
  • Homestead then he would of won everywhere.

    GO REED SORENSON 43!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Phoenix Baby!!!!!
  • Richmond.
  • I'll say Darlington. And not just because its the latest choice, but because he hasn't been good at Richmond recently, he seems to be top 5 in Phoenix, but I don't think he has the 48 or 5 covered. and Talladega (CAN'T WAIT!) is just so unpredictable, especially lately...
  • richmond
  • ALL OF THEM!!!!!

On a serious note, it's a GREAT possibility he can win all of them and go on a HUGE tear!!!

BUT, were not sure... so I'm gonna go with 'Dega or tonight, Phoenix!!!!
  • pheonix
    DEGA
    richmond
    or
    darlington

those are the 4 u pick frombay hotel repulse wedding
  • Who will be the first Driver in F1 to be sacked from their Drive?

    May be...

  • Bourdais being beaten by a rookie doesn't bode well
  • Surely Piquet. Others are under pressure but personally I was surprised Piquet even got a drive for this year and so far he's been underwhelming as usual.
  • Personally, i'd put money on Nelson Piquet Jr !
    Opinions ...
  • Its got to be Piquet Jr, decent car and consistently awfull!
  • If anyone's likely to get sacked it's going to be Piquet. Not because he's never beaten his teammate in qualifying in 20 or so races but because he's not consistent enough and keeps making mistakes and spinning out on his own.
  • Piquet or Seb. B
  • Yep, its going to be Piquet, all the other drivers are doing well!
although Kovalinen kinda needs to complete a racing lap...
  • Piquet - Can never get out of Q1 while Alonso is consistantly getting in the top 10. Don't even know why he got a driver for this year certainly not on talent.

Sutil and Fisichella - Were terrible in 2008 and haven't shown much improvement this year. Fisi is under more pressure more than 10 years in F1 and can't find his own pit lane and spends too much time mowing grass. Force India have Liuzzi waiting

Bourdais - Got a 2nd chance for 2009 and has been out performed by Buemi so far. Sato would surely be a faster option

Them 4 drivers will be the first to be replaced if any

Nakajima brings Toyota engines to Williams therefore won't lose his drive
  • I think it has happened before. Yuji Ide was asked to leave F1 due to the amount of accidents he was involved in /caused

    Edit
    >> looking at this year, most likely Piquet Jr. Flavio is not a very patient person
  • Nakajima Cant Drive A Toy Car
  • HEY! LAY OFF THE PIQSTER!

There are three main drivers which could easily be replaced for better drivers.
    Nakajima, Piquet, Bourdais.
All three are vastly underperforming compared to their team mates, and have scored just 1 point between them in two races, where there better halves have scored 9.5!

I think that the team bosses should break the legs of each of these drivers, and bring the test drivers in for a few races and see if they can do any better :)

    Cleverrrr ;)
  • when you consider the lap times, there is not much in it
we are talking tenths of a second from pole positions to 20th i mean Sebastian Vettel did a 1:36.184 for pole
and Giancarlo Fisichella did a 1:37.672 in last spot,
surprisingly Kazuki Nakajima did a 1:36.193
they are all doing a super job with the equipment they have under them2001 nissan maxima upgrades

  • If Dale Jr controlled 51% of DEI...?

    May be...

  • I have yet to read anything from yahoo Sports or yahoo anything that wasn't as immature as most of the post you read on yahoo answers. Almost up to the level of grocery check-out lane reading material.
  • If Dale Jr had 51%, he would still be there and driving, Budweiser would still be there also. I think maybe they might have done a engine deal with HMS instead of RCR. Dale Jr would have gotten the testing stuff like the shaker posts. Face if Dale Jr is a marketing guru, I think between he and Kelly his sister they could have avoided a merger with Ganassi, and got some good sponsors. They might have still gone down to 3 cars but I bet they would be competitive. Theres nothing we can do about it now, I just think if Dale Jr and Teresa could have mended some fences and took this on as a total Money and Winning Races attitude (and Dale Jr having 51%) this could have worked out. Its sad to see DEI having to go in with Ganassi, I hope they survive so Teresa when she is older can do what Dale Sr wanted all along, give the team to the 4 children he built the team for. I thought Teresa was suppose to be a great business woman, but it surely does not look like it at all now.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • that's a hypothetical question that would have no bearing on anything. if jr. had controlling stock in his daddies company in would not be in the toilet ready to flush so all this crap that step momma is doing to generate money wouldn't be happening. your question is a means to dump on jr. and nothing else. lets rephrase the question " if dale jr had controlling interest of DEI would it be on the verge of tanking?" no! or are you so uninformed that you can't realize this? bottom line is you don't like jr. that is obvious. IF IF WAS A FIFTH WE'D ALL BE DRUNK. RE: don't confuse childish with an opinion. that is what you asked for. when you ask a question, questioning the integrity of another person it can get a little sticky. what your suggesting is that if jr. was doing what theresa is doing would it be ok. jr. would not do what theresa is doing for the sake of a buck. sorry you feel my opinion is childish. when theresa let dale jr. go she let go of her future, plain and simple. he could lose every race for the rest of his career and he would still be the nascar favorite because of what his father managed to generate. i don't think Sr. nor Jr. minds that!
  • Buckshot I don't think that it would be struggling financially.

    1) If Dale Jr was still there then Budweiser would have never left and that would have made the organization as a whole look more marketable to potential sponsors.

    2) If Dale had stayed there then Dale Jr would have invested his money in the business which is why he wanted 51% of the business. Teresa was behind on technology and Dale Jr knew it is the reason he wanted 51%. DEI did not have a 7 post or 8 post shaker for simulating and testing back when NASCAR enforced the first of the last 2 no testing policies.

    3) If Dale and Teresa had spent their money together the cost would have been easier on both. If you don't understand that then why did DEI merge with Ganassi? Cost savings right?

    4) The reason everyone is upset because of "THE LEGACY" is because just about every one of Jr Nation's fans and non fans (minus a few) could see the writing on the wall and Teresa couldn't. DEI was like the underdog to beat HMS and that was one reason DEI was liked so much and Dale Jr was liked so much. At one time DEI was making progress but now look at it...!!! It makes people sick to even think about it. Why? Because of Teresa's mental problems against Dale Jr. It's sickening.

    5) I don't think that DEI would have been struggling had there been some sort of structure at DEI. Teresa never went to the races, she didn't care, she made several public remarks about how she would love to just sell it and be out of the public eye. People who worked at DEI said that there was no structure... nobody knew who was in charge ... it was chaos. There was no moral support.

To just out right answer your question would there still be upset and concern if DEI was failing with Dale Jr owning 51%.....I don't think so. Why? Because at least we would know he would have tried. With Teresa it looks as if she didn't even try. Look at how she changed people around in the organization. She took her best crew chief from the cars and placed him in the shop. She hired some marketing freak instead of someone knowledgeable of the sport to head DEI.

Why is it so hard to see why everyone is so upset and concerned...???
  • and the company was struggling, would everyone still be upset and concerned about Dale Sr's legacy?

if you don't know what I'm talking about, read Jay Hart's column.
    http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt...

I'm looking for honest opinions only...I know it's imposable to ask any Earnhardt question without being labeled a "hater", but let's leave the childish nonsense out of this one.
  • I fell that if Dale Jr. had controlling interest of DEI and had stayed all of the sponsors that left would still be there. With the right management the team of Dale Jr., Martin Truex Jr, Paul Menard, and Mark Martin would have been a force to watch out for. But, in that we will never know for sure.
  • IF Junior controlled 51% DEI wouldn't be failing so this question is impossible to answer. Junior would be there, Budweiser would be there, Truex & Menard would be there, the Army sponsorship would be there, the Menard sponsorship would be there. DEI would be there.

I read your article and I particularly agreed with this part of it:

~However imprudent a business decision letting Junior walk turned out to be, it was Teresa’s decision to make. She did, after all, have a heavy hand in the construction of DEI from the ground up, so she deserves the right to see it through вЂ" even if that means watching the organization crumble to the ground.

Still, DEI without Earnhardt Jr. has become what Tony Stewart said it would: a museum, one where its most saleable commodity is no longer alive.~

I understand folks feeling sorry for Teresa, she lost the love of her life I completely get that. I also understand she helped to build DEI from the gound up, but apparently she didn't know how to keep it up without Sr. since 8 years after his death DEI is a memory. I understand she was a grieving widow and was lost for a while but how can someone so 'smart' be so blind? She isn't. Teresa let DEI fail out of nothing but anger and selfishness.

So yes she helped to build it and she has the right to stand by and watch it crumble, but just becasue she can doesn't make it the right thing to do.

~Sorry, I can't help but defend Junior, he's my boy, it's what I do! But, I don't mean to offend anyone. Just giving you my honest opinion as always. But you gotta be real too, if Dale Earnhardt Jr. the most popular, most marketable guys in all of NASCAR controlled DEI sponsors would be knocking his door down to get thier name on the car driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. I am not saying this because I am his fan....sheesh even folks that don't know NASCAR know Junior. DEI would be alive and well if it wasn't for Teresa.

Again, no offense just my own personal thoughts on the matter.
  • If, ands and buts were candy and nuts.......................

All you have to do is look at the guys following and it is pretty easy to see that the company would be in better shape with his name out there alone. You can argue his skills all you want but the marketability is right there in front of you. The guy could sell snow cones to Eskimos!
  • Jay Hart is an idiot and I wouldn't be caught dead reading one of his articles.
  • And in a perfect world, there would be no hunger, disease....you get my drift?

Most people don't remember that Sr. didn't even drive for his own team.

So while TE and DE were building DEI, where were Kerry, Dale Jr. and company. Sitting there waiting....

Everybody blames TE for the "demise" of DEI. But how many other teams have folded or merged in the past years. Where is Petty Enterprises, they were absorbed TWICE.

And as far as the whole 51% thing. NOBODY knows for sure what was said or done behind closed doors. There was never a will made public, so by law if there was no will, all Sr's stuff goes to his next of kin, TE.

There, I feel better now.pda weather channel

What do you like best about Nascar racing at Phoenix?

    May be...

  • Side by side racing under the lights. I love that it's unique in shape, too.
  • It's not the same as all the other tracks. It also has a lot of character and I'd love to go watch some of the practices or qualifying from rattlesnake hill! My wife's millionaire aunt and uncle live within earshot of the track, we will have to go stay with them for a race when Jonah gets a little older!
    Jonah's FINE N 09!!!!
  • The side by side racing on a saturday night.
Phoenix is a 1 mike tri oval, with the tri oval on the back stretch, and pitting on the front long stretch. Phoenix has it's own character.
  • Great action, mostly comparable to me is New Hampshire. 2 different tracks but it seems the same to me. The best part is it's night racing.
  • What I like best about it is that Jeff Gordon has one win there and with just winning at Texas I am hoping he is on a roll and will win again. And I forgot to mention the great racing that usually goes on here.
  • The on-track action. It is one of the few tracks, in my opinion, that still provides great side by side racing all night long.

And the fact that Mark is really good there.
  • Great side by side racing, plus that little dog leg in the back stretch makes Phoenix unique.cant get into hotmail
  • Why was Dales first son named Kerry and his 2nd son "jr"?

    May be...

  • it really makes no sense. the first male is usually named "jr" not the second. anyone know the reason?
  • I would have been kinda dumb to name them both Kerry.......................
  • I think its because Kerry's mom didn't want him named after Dale. I believe they were having marriage issues when Kerry was born, so maybe she knew Kerry wouldn't have much to do with him and didn't want him named after a man he wouldn't know. Dale Jr.'s mom didn't care about what they named him and probably wanted to be able to call him Junior.
  • You gotta think like a redneck to answer that one. LOL JMO
  • he was the first son in his second marriage.
  • I have to agree with moo_wah and Danielle. Kerry's mom did not want a son named after Dale so he was named Kerry.
  • Maybe Dale Sr. knew that his # 2 son would be a better driver.
  • I believe that Dale's 1st wife did not want a jr or the son to be named after him. I could be wrong but I thought I heard that somewheremarriott ebreaks
  • Is it karma that the #8 is now parked?

    May be...

  • I don't think its karma. The only reason the 8 even made it to the track for the last year and a bit was because it was the 8. She made bad decisions, but ultimately it was Ganassi that pulled the plug here, choosing not to drain the team by supporting an unsponsored car like both he and Theresa did last year with the 40 and the 01.

If anything, I think the shutting down of the 8 team is going to help the 42 and 1, then they will get some good karma for having to sacrifice a team.

(I do think its old news, I've been beat over the head with it for the past week, and I'm ready to move on.)

Its old news because no one talked about when the 01, the 15 and the 40 were taken off the track. And the 40 had a better performance that the 8 not that long ago (If 2001-2003 counts). A week later is plenty old, especially in NASCAR these days. Its already old for me to ask what everyone thought of Joye Logano winning, isn't it?
  • Lets quit beating a dead horse here, theres nothing we can do about it. Dale Jr is stubborn and so is Teresa. I think she should have just parked the #8, with Budweiser going to Kasey Kahne. That #8 won 17 races for DEI all of the #8 history is with Dale Jr & Budweiser. WIth the economy, the team struggled last yr, they could have been focusing more on making their other cars better. I know its going to look weird with no #8 out there, but the way I look at it, theres been no #8 since Dale Jr left DEI, besides it just doesn't look right without having Budweiser on the car and Dale Jr in the seat.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • No way Lenny. Teresa is a marketing guru and is the whole reason DEI even existed. She meant to do that to DEI.

    LOL
  • She's the not the "evil stepmother" most Jr. fans say she is. But she is someone who Dale Jr. does not like, who I do not like (from what I hear of her. Of course I have never met her) and is destroying a once-great team founded by the Indimidator.

As for the karma question, I say yes. It was at the least 80% her fault DEI started to suck, had to merge, and now has lost one of the icon cars in NASCAR.

Say all you want about Dale jr. not being #8 anymore. He'll always be #8.
  • Unless one of the two of them writes a book on exactly what all transpired over that deal, we'll never really know how it came about. Bad karma? Maybe. Bad business decisions by "you know who", probably. Getting what she deserves? Not for us to judge.
  • I am sure Karma has something to do with it. How much? I don't know, but what I do know is the Theresa has made a string of bad decisions since Dale Sr. passed. I have cringed at every one of them up until the split of Jr. from DEI. Mistake number one. It hurt my heart that day, but I vowed from that day on to hope she fails. Too bad that she has affected several good race car drivers careers in a negative way. Glad Mark Martin saw the light and bailed on her when he did. She deserves all the bad stuff that happens to her for destroying what was once a powerful and highly revered business and name.

As far as her being the marketing genius that someone said she was, I have to laugh at that! I could have been successful at marketing Dale Earnhardt Sr.! That job didn't take any effort on her part at all, his name sold itself!

What this is is a crying shame. Theresa kept the number 8 because she KNEW how much Dale Jr. wanted it. She was going to do everything in her command to make sure he didn't have it. It's no so much that she even wanted it. Although, I'll bet she thought the prestige of that number would carry over to whoever drove with it on their car. Mistake number two. Then she lost the Budweiser sponsorship. Mistake number three. From there, the mistakes just snowballed right up to the present where the number 8 will be idol for who knows how long...... At least Montoya isn't driving with that number.

    Warm up your thumbs everyone!
  • great response to george H, whom i suspect is just another one of you know who's many accounts that he keeps changing the names and profiles of. he has the nerve to call you out for disrespecting dale earnhardts widow when his Q & A history on Y/A is a very familiar obsession with disrespecting and irrationally insulting the intimidators own flesh and blood. hmph, some people. now, to answer your question, yes, it is karma. you reap what you sew.
  • Buncha haterss need to get a life and quit picking on Teresa. You are disrespecting Dale Earnhardt's widow, if that means anything to you.
  • The 3 should be retired and the 8 should have been parked when Ralph was done with it. Junior was only disrespecting the number by being mediocre.
  • From what I understand, Dale Jr and Rick Hendrick offered a pretty penny for the rights to that number but "you know who" wanted a lot more............Now she is running low on funds and the car had to be parked...........Is she getting what she deserves?
  • yes i think 50% is karma something could have been done but i think he comes back chip will offer jr half of his half of the company
  • I don't believe in 'karma'..so my answer is no.
  • Well I read a while back that one of the sponsors of the #8 had a hospitality tent set up and no one was interested. A lot of people were mad that Jr. didn't get the #8 so they boycott everything around that car,and it looks like it is working ! I think she should have gave up the number but that's just my opinion !And I do believe you reap what you sow ! So yes I do believe in karma in that sense.

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • Yes, it is karma.

Expect them to see a little more bad karma come their way after the start selling the Earnhardt/Elvis cars.
  • Blood is supposed to be thicker then water, maybe Karma but I believe (like Ice said) Teressa had it planned this way. In my mind jr will and should be owner of DEI. But I guess things happen for a reason in life. What comes around goes around as they say in nascar.
  • For me the saddest part of this entire episode is young Mr. Almirola. This kid has alway's stayed under the radar, never complained and just did his job. Mrs. Earnhardt should of gotten out of the sport after Sr. passed. She was left a very wealthy widow who seemed uninspired and rightfully so. She lost her husband and her passion. The best thing for all parties would have been to let Dale Jr. and Mr. Hendrick purchase the #8 and move on respectfully. Why that didn't happen is not for me to speculate. Good luck Aric.
  • Thats old news and it stirs up hurt feelings. There is night racing this weekend at Phoenix. Im excited.

Add: My bad Lenny. Its just been drug through here alot since last week. No disrespect brother. I apologize. The only karma I know about is carmex the lip stuff. She is reaping what she has sewn.
  • This is not Teresa's fault! If Dale Jr. had just stopped thinking the grass was greener on the other side and stayed with DEI, things would be a whole lot different with DEI today and the 8 car!
  • I agree with you, and that is what karma is all about. I'm surprised all this went down so quickly, and it is rather saddening. It's more like abolishment by the fans. It's almost typical of what can happen by poor business decisions when emotions get in the way. I've also seen some faltering by the NASCAR Nation, and that makes me wonder too. I'm not afraid to agree with anyone who has a valid point. Maybe it's time to raise some hell in the NASCAR section of Y/A, ...or the rent.
  • Teresa Earnhardt Parks the No. 8
There won’t be a No. 8 car in Saturday night’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix. That will be the first time the No. 8 has not raced since Dale Earnhardt Jr began driving full time in the his NASCAR Sprint Cup series in 2000.

The Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing No. 8 has been driven so far this season by Aric Amirola - but a lack of sponsorship has caused the team to park the car, at least temporarily.

If Teresa Earnhardt had worked with Dale Jr just a little bit when he wanted to buy 51% of his father’s race team in 2007 sponsorship would not be a problem. It would be guaranteed.

Instead Teresa let pride stand in her way when she allowed NASCAR’s most popular driver, and it’s most marketable one, walk away.

    Ralph Earnhardt’s Number
Junior wanted the No. 8 because it was the car No. his Grandfather Ralph Earnhardt had driven back in the day.

The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, even drove the No. 8 the 1975 World 600 at Charlotte, his first Cup race.

    Teresa Refused to Release Number
But Teresa wouldn’t give the number up unless Dale Jr and Rick Hendrick were willing to write some big checks, even though it was Dale Earnhardt Jr who had built up the goodwill that stood behind the No. 8.

If Teresa Earnhardt had done what it took to keep Dale Earnhardt Jr on board she would have a strong race team today. She wouldn’t have to look for sponsors - the sponsors would be looking for her .

So was letting Dale Earnhardt Jr walk away a smart business move for DEI? I don’t think so.level skip half life 2

Do you think the diffusers should be legal?

    May be...

  • Absoulutely, its legal. Up until the date they decide otherwise, the constructor is legal and all points rewarded will stay.
  • the court case is tomorrow but i want to here your view and reasons..
  • If they were cleared before the first GP how come they are having another case..smells of sour grapes to me, a few teams did their homework and pushed the rules to the limit and the rest played safe. They were originally cleared by the FIA but some powerful people complain and we have to go through this again....if justice is served, they'll be cleared, and allowed for the remainder of the season.
It's the same as Rugby ELV's some coaches look at them and work out how to use the word of the law to their advantage, and others just look at what can't be done and leave it at that. Why penalise those with a bit of innovative thinking and reward negativity?
  • I'm assuming you are talking about a license plate diffuser to obscure the plate's numbers, making it difficult for a stop-light camera to get a clear shot of your plate number. If so, then you would be using a means to defeat technology used by law enforcement for the purposes of enforcing traffic laws. I don't like those cameras anymore than anyone else, but if we were obeying the traffic laws, then there would be no need for concern over them. On a side note...Maybe you can plead ignorance of the diffuser, saying that you did not realize that they are illegal.
  • I hope so but if they are illegal then I hope there are no points deductions, which there probably will be.
  • Hope not. All the other teams should build better diffusers if they are to compete with Brawn GP and Toyota
  • I think the FIA screwed up on the interpretation of the rules and now some teams are exploiting this. I think the FIA are too afraid to admit there mistake and will let things ride. I do think they really had no reason to rewrite the rule book without proper implementation. My opinion is it is too big an advantage and is not fair and should be illegal.aeroplan miles transfer
  • What's your favorite Jeff Gordon moment?

    May be...

  • I liked when he pushed Matt Kenseth. It's like, "Hey Jeff, Matt's quite a bit bigger than you, and he's younger. You might not want to push him." LOL! For me, Jeff Gordon is the person that I love to hate. Meaning, I don't like him, but secretly I'm not upset when he does well.
  • wow theres so many. to me its either tieing Earnhardts record or winning the first Indy race. really sentimental to him~
  • When drove around with the #3 flag out his window..
  • When he won at Phoenix and drove around with the Earnhardt flag. I think it really shows the kind of person he is. We all know that a whole lot of Earnhardt fans have given Jeff a hard time over the years, but Jeff has always taken it in stride. Dale Sr. never made it easy on him either, but Jeff took that in stride as well and eventually earned Big E's respect. Beneath all the talk of rivalry and such, there was a friendship there, and Jeff really respected and admired the Intimidator (he honored him again as one of his heroes in a Chevy commercial). To see him acknowledge that during such an important moment in his racing career really moved me. I had tears in my eyes that night.

I have a picture of that moment signed by Jeff. It's framed and hanging on my wall.
  • when he broke out the # 3 flag to tie big E in wins that was classy.
  • When he decided to put his money where his mouth was and join Rick in ownership of the 48 team. Jeff had mentioned to Rick that he should sign this Jimmie Johnson kid to HMS. Mr. Hendrick thought it might not be a bad idea but wasn't totally committed until Jeff decided to go halvsies on the team. It worked out pretty good for all parties concerned! On the track my favorite Jeff Gordon moment was the duel with Jimmie at Martinsville in the spring race of 2007.

  • Win #76 Tieing the great Dale Earnhardt
  • i would have to say the race at texas motor speedway. when he finally broke his 47 losing streak.
  • When he won the 2007 Talladega fall race, because it was one of only the 2 races I've ever seen him win personally and that was an exciting finish to a great race.
The new car has made restrictor plate tracks so much better.
  • This past win of his after a long dry spell. The fact that he acknowledged his wife and child before anything.
  • the last the retro paint scheme was on his car/ first win of 09
  • my fav moment of jeff gordan moment was when he one texas. that wuz really dale jr car so it wuz like a win for junebug
  • There are many to choose from for me, but it has to be when I had the pleasure of meeting him. I never did mention it (I didn't want to rub it in to anyone on here), and it didn't last long at all, but meeting my hero was an experience I will never forget. But when he finally wins his fifth championship, whether it be this year or whenever, that will probably be my favorite moment.

  • When was the first event held at Pheonix International Raceway, and who was the winner?

    May be...

  • Alan Kulwicki in 1988. This was the first time he did his Polish Victory Lap (driving the track clockwise).
  • The first cup series race at Phoenix International Raceway was held on November 6, 1988. The Checker 500 was the 2nd to the last race of the year and was won by the late Alan Kulwicki. Terry Labonte, Davey Allison, Bill Elliott and Rusty Wallace rounded out the top 5 and were the only other cars on the lead lap at the finish. After the race Awesome Bill had a 79 point advantage over Rusty and went on to win his only NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship by a mere 24 points!
btw: I did know the answer but saw that the others did as well so I looked up some other interesting facts about it.

  • I think this is a fair assumption do you agree?

    May be...

  • F1 - the best car generally wins. I agree
A1 - the best driver generally wins. I beg to differ.
Why? Because generally teams(or Countries, should I say) with the best and most experienced engineers generally are able to set up the car best for a particular track, given that the cars are all standard. If you look at the past few years of A1, most countries that have a heritage of motorsport generally perform a lot better over the entire season than countries that don't. So you see good and consistant performances from European countries such as Germany, France, Great Britain, etc. whereas Asian countries perform a lot worse. Driver wise, yes, some of them are better and more experienced than the others, but generally they are all pretty competent.
  • One part of the equation you are forgetting is:

    A1 driver = F1 dropout.
  • I've said this about F1 cars/drivers in the past, and F1 fans jumped down my throat in defence of the ability of F1 drivers in lesser cars to overcome this theory, however you can't dispute the fact that Hamilton just isn't at the races this season with the car he has to work with, and Button has suddenly become a real Championship contender, but the staunch F1 fans would still have you believe that it is still all about Button than the much better car he is driving, dream on F1 fans.
  • F1 = the best car generally wins
A1 = the best driver generally wins
  • Up to a point I agree. at the moment in F1, the best drivers aren't in the best cars ( I believe Alonso, Kubica and Vettel a match for any Ferrari/ Mclaren/ Brawn driver).
But its up to each team to produce the best car, all teams apart form force India and Torro Rosso have the budget to produce a world beater but for one reason or another don't. Most years in F1 (not every) more than 1 car is capable of winning races, last year McLaren, ferrari, BMW and Renault were at times, the best. F1 has a relative freedom in car design, pushing to be the best of the best in technology, which i feel is a large part of the appeal.
In A1 GP, the cars all have the same motor and chassis and its up to setup and skill to come out on top but there is no real team to support, just country, which I feel isn't right in motor sport, this is why I never watch GP2 and A1 GP, each race series has their own rules and fans, which is fair enough.
  • I would agree with that, but then again every once in a while the dark Horse jumps up and rears it unruly head.
Such as Daytona and Talladaga when the big one happens.
I mean look at how David Guilliand got into cup cars. Granted he has been around for a while but it was totally unexpected the way he won his race and got a cup ride.
But now he is showing what he is made of with an unsponsored team, and I wish him all the best.com1 irq

  • The exposure to the public in such an open manor is priceless. Of course they benefit or they would not be sponsoring them. In most cases monies come out of their advertising budgets. Many companies weigh the cost of advertising dollars with the increase of their profits. Advertising dollars are deductible as a business expense.
  • They must or else they wouldn't be sponsoring a car. It costs big $$ to have your company name on a car...but the beneifit is the millions that will see it...especially if it is in Victory lane or up front often enough. I purchase items from car sponsors...M&M's, Home Depot, Budweiser, Lowes, Dewalt, Amp, etc... Theyn need to get a return on their investment or else they wouldn't sponsor. Some sponsors have been with NASCAR for many years.action replay halo 2 saves
