McLaren why didn't you keep Fernando...?!?

May be...

  • *sigh* I know exactly how you feel. to say I was gutted when that partnership didn't work out would be in understatement
  • .... because we think you are causing too much trouble fighting with Hamilton. Besides, you can't stand him and the team, so you want to leave.

After all that happened last year, the team felt really betrayed that Alonso reported them to the FIA after blackmailing Ron. It got so tense that you could feel it in the team's atmosphere. The mechanics couldn't even look him in the face.

Plus, the rivalry between him and Hamilton reached unhealthy levels. This has been denied recently but i wonder if it's true and if people actually believe it. Too much competition will not help the team as the driver could just be focusing on how to beat his team mate instead of also giving feedback to help improve the car, helping to improve the team;s performance
  • Why is probably very complicated alongside all the acusations, and bad blood between him and his team mate. Althought I am a McLaren supporter I think Renualt suits him better.
Hamilton to McLaren is almost like family because they have been nurturing him for so long. But undoubtedly Alonso is a formidable driver and I think all things considered it's McLaren's loss. Bit sad really for all concerned.
I can see Alonso with Honda next year.
  • They were so in love with Hamilton they couldn't see reallity....
Bad for them, they'll open their eyes this year and see they bet on the wrong horse...
  • Fred has said he always wanted to drive for them and McLaren clearly recognized that Fred's a great driver. But Fred's fragile ego could not handle the "what have you done for me lately" attitude at McLaren - it is very business-like there where Renault is more homely, what with Papa Flav and his favourite son etc.

Like some marriages, even with the best intentions, some things just don't work out.
  • They could have at least signed a more mature driver to partner with Lewis for tracks like this.
  • ...because they love Lewis more than Fernando.
  • .

Because they'd be on pole with a thimble of gas in the tank??

EDIT: Actually Val I agree with you - if it had worked out we could have looked forward to some excellent racing and maybe better development at Mac's...

  • How many of you had NASCAR withdrawl over the week break?

    May be...

  • Actually for once, I wasn't distracted at work by going over and sneaking peaks at the race every so often.
  • MEEEEEEEEEEEE
  • The Nationwidw race was ok, but I like the cup races so much better and I have a Fantasy team.It seems like its been longer than just a week off. I guess I better get a life. Ha Ha
  • Not me. I had more than my fair share, what with the IRL race in Japan, the Nationwide series in Mexico, the Rolex Series in Mexico, the last CCWS race in Long Beach, and the ALMS race, also in Long Beach.

I follow so many different series, I never have a weekend off from watching racing. Even all winter I still have the CORR, and WSORR series, World of Outlaws Late Models and Sprints, Lucas Oil Late Model series, and NTPA Tractor Pulling, which are first run races or events from the summer. I even find some unique racing on "Lucas Oil On the Edge" on Speed-TV.
  • Definitely had withdrawal, especially since I can hardly wait to see Jr. run 'Dega in HMS equipment. But Tom G is right. Winter is the worst. EVERYTHING Nascar related catches my attention in stores and on the street. I miss it so much my eyes pick out any little logo related to Nascar, regardless of whether it's the Nascar logo itself or a logo of one of the major sponsors. We're lucky it's the longest sport season. :-)
  • yes alot because the nationwide race SUCKED!!!! We should not race in MEXICO.!!! cant wait for dega
  • <<<<<<<<(Has hand raised)

    ME!!!!

The only good thing is that it gave me time to move and to repair my radio-controlled Truggies. Tomorrow, I go racing! Sunday, I watch racing! What could be better???
  • I hate off weeks. The winter is the worst though, somethimes I don't know if I can survive. Enjoy Talladega!
  • not really because i was bowling in a tournoment last weekend..never realy gave it much thought
  • Thankfully I have a Dr. who is a NASCAR fan so he understands the need for serious medication during these trying times. LOL But seriously. It gives me a chance to go out and play with my friends and our remote controlled buggies. And my roommmates get a break from the roar of engines from Fri. morning thru Sunday afternoon. I'm in Californication so the party starts way early. I AM CRANKED UP!!!!!!! I live for the Tally races. Also gives my PS2 time to rest. Let's go racing boys.
  • Ah, but now we have Talladega - always worth waiting for! Hope everyone enjoys the race and has a great weekend.
  • Yeah, we always go to my parents and watch the race. I was kind of confused as to what I should do over there since the race was not on.
  • I was OK, the withdrawal wasn't too bad since we had Nationwide, and the local track is in full swing on Saturday night. I was able to get a small racing fix.
  • I had withdrawals, and that awful NNS race in Mexico city was certainly not the cure.
  • Yes it has been a Long time since race day!!!!!!!!
  • I got a small fix from other racing but yes I'm looking forward to this weekend.

    Enjoy!
  • well I've been salivating for Talladega since the last Cup race, it's one of my faves for the year. Going to that race in person someday is on my "bucket list"...
  • If they show baseball during the pre-race interviews, i'm going to throw my T.V. off a seven story building. It seems like a month!
  • I don't understand why everyone hates off weeks... sure it's boring, but it makes the next race SO MUCH BETTER!

With a mix of anticipation and Talledega, you create the ultimate race.
  • ME-ME-ME! It's probably easier to ask who didn't have withdrawls. TGIF, with Dega in 2 days!

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • 'Dega was worth the wait...But I was at the last Champ car race last Sunday in Long Beach, and I was still on a high about Danica's win in Japan....But its 'dega time now...

    Go Dale Jr win 'dega

    Richard Petty Sunglasses?

    May be...

  • does anyone know what type brand etc sunglasses richard used to wear with the littl STP sticker on them or what he wears now. thanks.
  • ?
  • I think "The King", is a Ray Band kind of guy.
  • The link below is for an autographed pair of his sunglasses. The only other thing I could find is on ebay. They have the mini sunglass STP stickers.

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • What ever happened to Jacques Villenueves in NASCAR?

    May be...

  • Yeah, i concur with the other answers. One would think that a guy with that kind of talent, regardless of experience, would have no problem hooking up with one of the better teams.
  • Pardon my spelling.
  • His Sponsor was a SCAM!. No money to get to the track.
  • Sponsorship problems. I have heard rumors that he might be back next year.
  • He post planned his debut/rookie year to 2009.
  • car owner ran out of money to fund the team, so hes taking a hiatus
  • I think he got fired.

Radio stations that carry NASCAR races in Houston area?

    May be...

  • try moter racing network.com
  • This weekend I'm entered in dog shows at Beaumont. Had I used my brain and realized it is Talladega weekend, I would have not entered. Does anyone on this forum know what radio stations, AM or FM, that carry the race(s) live Sat and Sun? My van has t.v. and an antenna so as a last resort I'll just tune in the race on t.v. and listen but I'd rather have a radio station. I think I can catch the start on Sunday before our 2pm ring time but I know I can't get home from there before the end. It's a strong 3 1/2 hour trip from Beaumont back to my house.
  • KBME-AM 790 Houston MRN affiliate

    Have a nice day.
  • If anyone will get suspended this year in NASCAR, who will it be?

    May be...

  • I don't think any drivers will get suspended.. but maybe some crew chiefs like Chad Knaus. Carl's crew chief has already been suspended this year.
  • I dont think any driver will get suspended...maybe fined
But u will probably see a few more crew cheifs out for a couple of weeks
  • crew chiefs: any one of them
drivers: Kurt Busch or Robby Gordon
  • Kyle Bush or maybe............Smoke??
  • No driver, probably Chad Gnaus or one of Roush's crew chiefs.
Maybe someone at Mikey Waltrip Racing.
  • Chad Knaus. LOL : )
  • pick who u think will get suspended if ne one.
  • One of the Busch brothers. Kyle or Kurt they are both loose cannons.
  • Kyle Busch.
  • Carl Edwards' crew cheif has already been suspended.

    See the link...

  • Which of these teams do you expect to take the biggest step forward in Spain this weekend?

    May be...

  • Honda. They have that stupid new thing on the front bit of the nose of the car that looks even uglier than any of the BMW's areo bits. They might as well put on airplane wings on the car..
  • Honda.
Reading through the reviews of last weeks testing they appear to have made some real good progress and seem pretty confident.
Alonso was none to pleased with his teams progress, as for Force India, sorry, I don't know what they've done to the car.
  • 1. Force India

    2. Honda

    3. Renault
  • the best answer for that would be Honda... their package seems to suit well with barca...
  • i think it will be renault

but i hope it is force india
  • that question is a survey question on official F1 website.=)
    Renault has the highest vote.
  • i say 3. Renault
  • Seeing as danloffspies was so quick last time...another quick quiz anyone?

    May be...

  • 1. Niki Lauda
    2. Still looking
    3. well done Dan
    4. Marc Surer in the Ragno/Arrows.
  • Sorry but here I am again lol...

I don't know some of these so far so I'll do what I can

    3. I think it may be Jody Scheckter in a Ferrari
    4. Andrea De Cesaris in an Alfa-Romeo
  • 1)Don't Know
    2)Errrr
    3)My internet sucks
    4)Ditto
At least I beat the other guy to it.
    I was too young OK?

If you could have one ticket to any race in history, what race would it be?

    May be...

  • 1998 Daytona 500. The day Dale Earnhardt finally conquered his elusive dream. R.I.P. Dale.

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • I'd love to be on the start finish line at Darlington when Busch and Craven slammed each other to the finish line. That was an amazing race.
  • I'd have to go back to the 1979 Daytona 500 and the fight after the crash on the last lap between Donnie Allison & Cale Yarborough. Which is also the year Earnhardt won rookie of the year. The good old days!

Or I would love to go back to the year Earnhardt won his first Daytona 500 in 1998 after a gut wrenching 19 years of trying. Still gives me goose bumps thinking about it.
  • Since most so far gave my answer, I will give my second choice: the fall 2000 Talladega race where Dale got his 76th win!!
  • The 2001 Daytona 500
  • 1979 Daytona 500.
  • Last race of the season in 1989 where Rusty Wallace won the championship.

Rusty is my all time fave driver so that race would be really cool for me personally.
  • the 1979 Daytona 500 i'd love to see the fite.
  • I want very much to see my favorite driver's first Cup win ... Elliott Sadler's victory at Bristol in 2001. Not only is every race at Bristol fun to watch (especially back then), he got the victory from 38th place and watching him move from 38th to 1st would have certainly been a thrill for me.

I only wish I could see something like that for him now!

    Nathan
  • Hands down, the 1998 Daytona 500!
  • 1998 at Daytona for sure. I was so happy for Dale Earnhardt I almost cried.
  • any race at the Rock(Rockingham)
many all ready said Daytona 500 1998
(RIP Dale) your mised by many
  • 1998 Daytona 500
  • Pettys 200th win!!!!!!
  • 1998 daytona 500 !! or 1999 bristol night race!!
  • 1998 Daytona 500
  • well to many said my favorite Daytona 1998
my next would be the last Race at the Rock
  • I'd say the 79 Daytona 500 would have been great to see that fight.. But I would love to see "again" the 1998 Daytona 500 I was there, that race was awesome....

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Martinsville or Daytona 500.
  • either the 1979 daytona 500 cause cale lives write down the road from me and hes my hero or the 1998 daytona 500
  • one where car parts go flying into the grandstands
  • Which driver does the best burnout?

    May be...

  • U!!!! Now give me some points!!! :p
  • well dale jr i hate to say is the best at burnouts. he will burn the tires off.
  • I see you "borrowed" this off NASCAR.com's website. Right now, voting is running in favor of Jimmie Johnson.
  • Burnouts and Donuts Highlight Pre-Race Show For Sprint All-Star Race:
Top Sprint Cup Series drivers will prove who can execute the best burnout and donuts during the inaugural Pennzoil Victory Challenge prior to the Sprint All-Star Race on Saturday night, May 17, at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The timed-competition will include five drivers who must demonstrate four essential skills of any victory celebration: a tire-smoking burnout; spectacular donuts; precision driving into "Victory Lane;" and, as with anything in racing, speed. Clint Bowyer, a first-time Sprint All-Star Race participant and driver of the #07 Jack Daniel's Chevy, is the first official entry for the inaugural event. Other participants will be announced at a later date. The Pennzoil Victory Challenge will take place on the frontstretch of the 1.5-mile superspeedway at 6:15 p.m., just prior to the start of the Sprint Showdown. Each driver will be in similarly prepared Richard Petty Driving Experience cars wrapped with Sprint All-Star Race decals. A $10,000 donation will be made to the winner's designated charity. The inaugural Pennzoil Victory Challenge will be televised live during SPEED Channel's pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.(LMS PR)(4-23-2008)

    in other words...we shall see
  • Dale Jr.
  • NASCAR doesn't do burnouts -- they just spin around and make some smoke.

To see a true burnout, turn into NHRA drag racing!
  • Jeff Burton....cause he doesnt do one

Long live the Polish vicotory lap!!!!
  • definatly Jimmie Johnson
  • In Nascar I think its Kyle Busch followed close by Jimmie Johnson.
  • I'm no fan but I think Jimmie Johnson's is pretty cool
    GO # 9 Kasey Kahne
  • Jeff Gordon does a descent burnout.
  • only name i can come up with is gordon
  • tony stewart.
    ..i don't like him though.
    kasey kahne's my man.
  • the one on the left
  • John Force has the best burnout. He does a 3/4 track burnout to heat his tires up before race down the track. It has tons of smoke and the smell of burnt rubber is intoxicating!
  • Matt Kenseth
  • Jean Alesi, best F1 burnout!
  • Kevin Harvick has done some good burnouts and Kyle Busch also. Jimmie is pretty good too, probably because he's had so much practice. 3 STR8 N 08!!!
  • Smoke, thats how he got the name.
    GO 31 GO
I'm a Burton fan, and he does the Polish victory lap.
  • HOW long before the #18 has a bad wreck and takes it a little easier?

    May be...

  • He had a bad wreck last year at Talladega. I still don't see any improvement
  • I dont know--But if he learns to drive smarter, he will gain alot of peoples repect!!!!!!!
  • A bad wreck will only make his work harder...take it easy?? ain't gonna happen if you're talking about Kyle...
  • I think it will be more of him causing a bad wreck and hurting someone else. He appears to have little regard as to whether he wrecks himself or not. Something that will probably come with age. Whether or not he ever decides to own a team, is something else that may make him take it easy. More than one aggressive driver (Earnhardt Sr, Harvick) has calmed down in the past when he knows what it's like to pay for the busted up race cars!
  • Years! ha ha
  • Not any time soon! He's an immature baby who will never get over imperfection, which is good and bad.
  • this is the way he races very wreckless with no regards to anyone but himself. I don't see him calming down anytime soon.
  • Wrecking is a part of racing. You race, at one point or another you'll get into a wreck. It's expected. Drivers can't afford to just take it easy cause they wrecked. Once they do that, they'll be out of racing. Its too competitive to get scared after a wreck and just slow down. Not to mention the I think McDowell's wreck proved how safe the COT truly is.
  • Didn't he have a bad wreck at 'dega last yr or the yr before he was on his lid in a crash.. They don't call him Rowdy for nothing, I'm sure he'll have his share of big ones..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Prolly never this kid can drive. He is a wheelman and is at an outstanding level in motorsports.
  • I really don't know when, but I think it will happen eventually. Some people just never slow down, though. Just look at Dale Sr. That man had SEVERAL nasty wrecks but it never stopped him. He still had that same fire until the very end.......
  • He had a bad wreck, and that didn't slow him down, he is an idiot and has no regards for other peoples lives.

he will never slow down...till its over.......
  • Not soon enough
  • 5 days, 4 hours and 45 minutes. Thats when they go green at Talladega.
  • This isn't figure skating.
  • Did you see the two wrecks he had last year? I thought he he would've been afraid to drive after those horrific crashes. Like I said about Kyle Busch. He reminds me of me. It doesn't matter. The love of racing never stops a contender. Being in a race car is "home" for these guys. Getting in a bad wreck will not make Kyle go slower or take it easy. Just looking at a race car makes you wanna get in it and push it to it limits, and dust off the competition. So my answer to your question , is "never".
  • He is going to do just fine at Dega, the bumpers on the COT match up perfect which will allow better bump drafting, for instance Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch at Daytona. Oh yeah and dont forget the rear wing which allows the car to remain stable when the car is upset a bit.
  • 22.4.08

    Once again, did you hear?

    May be...

  • I;m glad to hear that he has gotten another race deal done. Without sponsorship, Doug Yates will probably be out of racing soon. You are looking into the future of racing. No more one sponsor per car. Every team will have multiple sponsors to run an entire season.
  • The Plain White car is a Long tome standard for a Sponsorless car.--It is a Shame Yates cant get a Sponsor for His Cars for the whole season!!!!!
  • why is it pronounced waffle?that's the real question.HMMMMM????????
  • I like what they did a few races ago, which was to put the # of people that watch NASCAR on the car on the white car. I thought that was a pretty good idea. It made a good point.
  • YAY! I didn't know that yet Thanks for filling me in! I Love it when he has a sponsor and doesn't have to run a white sponsor-less car!
  • Travis Kvapil got another sponser for this weekend's race but yet another one race deal.
Do you think it is a good idea to run a blank car because it might turn sponsors off if they see a blank car. "If that car is blank, it must be bad."
Do you think they should run a blank car or run a Yates paint scheme or something like Regan Smith is doing with the DEI emblem?
  • YOUR AVATAR IS NOT SO NICE

    YOU LOOK GAY... ARE YOU?

    HAAAAAAAAAA
  • Good ol' Kvapil, surprising me yet again! Outstanding news.

Even though a plain white car is boring, it's actually very noticeable - that's helpful when you're trying to grab the attention of a company!
I think running a blank car would be better. If someone is interested in sponsoring a car and is watching a race, then they'll obviously see it has no paint scheme - no paint scheme, then no sponsor. But if Kvapil goes around the track with a painted car (emblem and all) and the interested potential sponsor sees him... he might think that Kvapil already has a sponsor.

I'm not sure, but I believe that's what would happen... just to play it safe, white car should be used.
  • I tend to think of the plain white car as a blank canvas just waiting for a painter, or sponsor in this case. Leave it blank, I say. I can't believe these cars can't find sponsorship. I'd gladly sponsor Kvapil. What do I get for, like, $250?

    ....SWEET! I 'd make it a yellow smiley face! : )
  • How do you feel about the open wheelers in Nascar?

    May be...

  • with the exception of the andretis none of those you mention were really sucessful in open wheel the phenemenon now is that top open wheel drivers are coming over to nascar and it hink thats why its such a big deal they arent washed up either they are coming over in their primes.
  • I don't mind them at all. Let 'em come and race, and if they prove they can be competitive, they're fine by me. I just don't want the traditional regional series racers to miss out on opportunities because sponsors are attracted to the "star power" of some of the open wheelers. And, yeah, they should race a full season in NCTS or Nationwide first. However, I don't think NASCAR needs these open wheel guys to improve it's image. NASCAR has been around for 60 years, and it doesn't need open wheel guys to convince ignorant bashers that it's a legitimate and credible sport.
  • I am fine with it. However I think that they should be required to run at least half the season in the Nationwide Series BEFORE running in the Sprint Cup. At least that way they can get a feel for the handeling, how much heavier, & the different driving style involved in stock car racing.

I don't care how accomplished they are in their series or any other open wheel series. NO ONE should just be thrown into a stock car without some prior stock car expreience. Besides I believe that racing the Nationwide Series first would give them a much better chance at actually qualifying for a cup race. I mean you've got to qualify to race right?

And like stated, they have been soo hyped up in the media that all anyone can talk about is their accomplishments in the open wheel series. They get thrown into the Cup series head first & then half of them can't even run a car 2 laps to qualify for half the races. And I believe it is their lack of experience in the stock car.

Other than that I really counldn't care either way.
  • No problems. It seems though, these guys could have used more prep time in trucks or Nationwide rather than jumping straight to "cup". JPM is really showing how talented he is when you look at how abysmal the others have done so far. I would love to see what he could do in some better equipment.
  • Same way Ive felt for 25 years . Who cares.

    Mario Andretti
    AJ Foyt
    Tony Stewart
    Robbie Gordon
    John Andretti
    Johnny Rutherford
    Dan Gurny

If you want to count sprint cars and Go Karts we can go on and on. It's nothing new. I don't see what all the "hubub" is about. Besides they are all great race car drivers. Especially if you have followed other series of racing throughout your life.
  • I have no problem at all with them coming over.. The last few that have come over aren't doing that great...Sure come on over..I've got no problem with it..
  • I feel like a pretty woman walking through a mens maximum security prison. What do you mean "how do you feel". Men racing in NASCAR doesn't make me emotional. I expect these things from motorsport competition. Men who compete in auto racing are always thriving for the ultimate competition. Can you blame them? The "open wheelers", I mean. The men men who you suspect to evoke feeling into their viewers. They were here before Toyota. If you really wanna see someone gush, ask them how Toyota makes them feel. Anyone who races in a cup race, is just another driver. That's all. Nothing to get excited about.
  • I'm all for it. The more diversity we have, the better. These open-wheelers, such as Montoya, Carpentier, and Franchitti are GREAT for our sport's image. We have been stuck in the "dark ages" for a long time in the eyes of the general public. Having World-Champion drivers, such as Montoya and Franchitti, WANT to come over to our sport does a lot to shut up the average individual who still thinks we are a bunch of sweaty inbred rednecks driving in circles. Having these guys saying that this stock car stuff is a lot harder than it looks adds quite a bit of credibility to our sport as well.
  • let them race!!
  • with the exception of juan pablo WRECKO i think they have done a good job. it takes a totally different driving style and personality to race in nascar as opposed to open-wheel. Juan just doesnt have the skills and his personality is about as comfortable as sand paper
you get a bad apple every once in a while so let them race
  • I also believe they should drive in the nationwide series first.
  • The current ones were overhyped, it appears. In their defense, many of the stock car regulars are also struggling with the handling of the COT on the downforce tracks. They are still decent drivers, they just need to acclimate to all the changes and tracks they have never seen before.
  • Doesn't bother me a bit. If they can quality then I say let 'em go for it.
  • Got no problem with it. If they've got what it takes to win, come on over. The more, the merrier!
No cry babies, though. NASCAR's already got enough of them.
  • Bring 'em on. Right now they aren't doing so hot.
  • A big AMEN to every answer so far. I am surprised though. When I first saw the question I figured the haters would be out en masse. I'm lovin the lack of foolishness.
  • How I feel can be summed up in 3 words;
    Let 'em race!!!
  • People seem to forget that there were,,,

    Robby Gordon,
    Tony Stewart,

    The Andretti's,

A lot of past drivers came from open wheel, just not with as much fanfare and hype. Without 183,000 cable channels to choose from and the Internet to search most people would probably not know more than 5 or 6 drivers anyway.
  • What driver will se victory lane frist joey logano chrissy wallace or colin braun?

    May be...

  • JOEY LAGANO 100% NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I will go with Joey Logano also although Colin Braun could be a suprise.
  • I say Joey Lagano has the Best Chance to win 1st!!!!
  • Definatle Joey Logano, and having seen Colin run at Barbers Motorsport park he could also be close to a win.
  • Joey Logano

Chrissy will take a while to win a Truck race
    and Colin Braun sucks!
  • Depends. We don't know what Joey Logano can do just yet (I think he may be a little over-hyped) outside of the lower series; he could end up like Frank Kimmel. Chrissy Wallace is running part-time for a non-Cup affiliated team, so she needs to take it one step at a time and it may take her a few years before she comes to Cup. At this point, Colin Braun looks to be the most likely. We'll have to see about the others. BTW, Colin Braun has to be just as talented, if not more talented, than Joey Logano.
  • No doubt, Joey Logano. He will inherit the Gibbs Nationwide 20 car that has been winning this year, and his talent along with the Gibbs equipment will likely put him in victory lane within his first two or three races!
  • Definitely Joey Lagano. Assuming he can adjust to the Natiowide cars and having more drivers to race against each week, I expect him to win at least two races this year.
  • I'm going to say Joey Logano. He is definitely a very talented racecar driver. Plus he's going to have great equipment to race with. Colin Braun is a great racer too. it's just, his equipment might not be as good. although its not at all just based on equipment, but you also need team chemistry and everything else. and joey logano definitely has all of it. Look for Joey Logano to win first.
  • I agree it will be Joey Logano!!!!
  • I am going to lay it out on the line and say Chrissy Wallace. I know its a long shot but someone's got to do it.
  • i am going whit joey logano
  • Formula one races 2008 in the USA???

    May be...

  • There used to be a USGP and Indy, but not this year. Im going to Montreal for the Canadien GP now. FYI - June 8

I believe it had to do with Americans protesting F1/Bridgestone/INDY. Resulting only in 6 cars competing.
  • some one told me that they would be here in the usa! shocking i thought but now i hear that there not!! anyone know whats going on?

    where there going to be?
why they might not be in the us?
  • Yes, they'll be here . . . but only on television!

The reason the race is off for 2008 is that Bernie didn't like the way the Indy track promoted the Indy 500 during the 2007 F1 race and the Indy track owners didn't like the Michelin tyre fiasco a couple of years ago, or more particularly, Max Mosley's reaction to it which prevented any kind of a "show".
  • No USGP this year, but there is a possiblity of F1 returning to Indy next year! Tony George and Bernie Ecclestone couldn't reach an agreement which resulted in the USGP being removed from the '08 calendar. The only time this year they will be in North America is when they go to Montreal for the Canadian GP (which I'm going to).
*Oh and to the person who said the Americans protested Bridgestone at Indy, get your facts straight! It was Michelin!
  • They will be in Canada and Brazil but not in the US.

    Should Danica move to nascar?

    May be...

  • She needs to stay right where she is. She is a good driver and all but I dont think she could make it in Nascar. I would like to see Dale Jr though get out of his car and throw a temper tantrum in the middle of the track after he ran out of gas like she did a while back.
  • She should stick with the IRL. She is on a top team and with only 15-20 cars in the race she will continue to get top 10s. If she goes to NASCAR she will end up being a field filler. She doesnt have the talent to run top 10 in a stock car even with a good team.
  • Dnaica is doing well, just keep it up ! Run a little more where she is now.
  • sure, and get her whiney **** out of open wheel racing and let the real drivers do their thing. let her go whine with tony stewart and all the nascar crybabies.
  • No, she weighs like all of 105lbs. and is 5ft 2 inches tall. I don't believe she can handle a stock car over an extended period of time!
I do see a Go Daddy commercial with Dale Jr. in her future. Most likely right after Jr. wins at Talladega this weekend!!!
  • Hell no...
  • she needs to stay in the irl. she sould not move to nascar till she wins the indy 500 and the irl points title.
  • No way !! One IRL win is one thing... but these nascar drivers, is crazy !
  • Not at this time, she just won her first race, she really needs to make a real name for herself, win some more race, heck be the first woman to win the Indy 500...She is a open wheel gal..I doubt if she would come to Nascar.. I'm sure if she came over and was in a Hendrick Car she'd be a winner, but I just do not think she will come to Nascar..
  • She looked real good in the SI swimsuit issue, so I say yes, bring her on
  • I feel she need to polish up on her pedigree a little more. Win a couple more times, then maybe should should try the Busch series.

Public relations wise ... she is ready now. I feel she needs a little bit more seasoning on the track.
  • Yes. Jeff Gordon could retire and Danica could be the one crying at the banquets at the end of the season. She kind of looks like Jeff too.
  • that's some sick humor dude
  • Not at this time!!!!!!
  • No Danica is already established in open wheel and is doing great. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
  • The IRL needs to keep it's stars as the series is on it's way up. Unfortunately the media will now try to ruin Indy Cars the way it ruined Na$car. I would like to see Jeff 4-time CHAMPION Gordon come over to open-wheel as he has kicked enough butt in the non-stock stock car circuit. That way it would make it fair for the whiners that can't take getting beat by the best AND give the IRL another superpower. Na$car has Tony Stewart to throw the tantrums so, no, Danica can stay put! We like her right where she is. Thanks though.
  • I think she should i dont know how much money she makes but im sure she could make more in nascar, its growing very rapid in our country and a good looking girl would be kinda cool and she would probably be one of the top paid drivers if she could some what prove her self. Keep in mind those open wheel she drives are alot less physically demanding compared to stock cars it takes muscle to get them things around the track.
  • She needs to stay in the IRL and prove herself there first. Yes, she finally got a win, but that doesn't prove a whole lot. She has the talent, but I think she's much happier in the IRL than she would be in NASCAR at this point in her career.
  • Abolutely not. Keep these people in their own class away from NASCAR, please!!!
  • Does it take real talent to be a race car driver?

    May be...

  • That Question came up years ago when Dan Pastorini retired from the NFL and stepped into first drag boats then NHRA fuel classes, if memory serves he had a Top Fuel dragster about the time Shirley Muldowney was tearing up all of the records. At any rate Pastorini rips off a couple of wins at either national or regional events and the question came up how hard is it to compete in this sport? The answer was a professional quarter back with the reflexes that came with it and who could afford it, and a young lady who had grown up around cars just like most of the rest of the top wheels of the day. As for Formula 1 you don't want to know.
  • Imagine this. Sitting strapped into a vehicle for two hours or so. Driving at high speeds, sometimes over 200mph. You have 27or more people around you. G-forces are throwing you against your restraints. You have to keep your eyes on what is going on with your car, in your mirrors and what is going on around you. You have no power steering, meaning you must physically manhandle the car. Your feet get blistered from the heat of the gas and brake pedals. Not to mention the mental strain of no timeouts, no halftime, no breaks until the end of your race.

Does it take real talent to be a race car driver? What do YOU think?!
  • It takes alot of talent because just being able to control a car at the speed there usually going is tough! So to answer your question yes
  • it does, but it is'nt this "fairytale" first go, and hey presto! you are kicking some serious ***! life is'nt like that, one thing you haveot remmeber is that a lot of these race drivers have been practicing for years, in go karts, midgets, then into cars proper. money does play a very big part, some people get the breaks, some don't, there are people who get the breaks but blow it.

overall, drivers are talented at what they do, but they aren't good by luck, it is the natural aptitude for driving fast aligned with (in some cases) hard work at improving their driving. however, becasue motorsport costs a lot of money, you aren't going to see someone from downtown detroit, who lives in a trailer park win the INDY 500, or somebody who has grown up in the bronx winning the Daytona 500, or to give this question an european flavour, you wont see someone from peckham in london winnign the F1 world championship.
  • There schools you can go to. It would take some training--such as this:
    http://www.skipbarber.com/
    http://www.jeffgordonracingschool.com/
    http://www.racingadventure.com/
You would probably have to do good in a school and get seen by possible sponsors.......
  • YES IT DOES. DANICA PATRICK WORKS OUT REGULARLY TO HAVE ENDURANCE AND STAMINA TO BE ABLE TO RACE FOR THAT LONG. CHECK OUT THIS SITE http://www.indycar.com/tech/physical.php
  • Looks like the Blue Falcon strikes again! I couldn't say it any better. It's funny that baseball is a sport but not racing when most of the time you are standing around in the outfield waiting to go sit down in the dugout. Yawn.
  • Always
  • I have been looking at the requirements and backgrounds of race car drivers and it seems like it is for someone who has lots of money or connections. It doesn't look like alot of people even take up the activity as drivers school is expensive and there are few tracks. Of course it is daring but does is it really that physical and if so, does the physical skill only have to be somewhat better then the few that even consider taking up the sport? Are these drivers just marginal fish in a small pond?
  • Which racing series are you referring to? Some series is more about money and connections, especially open wheel racing in America. And, yeah, some in stock car racing as well. But the majority do not come from wealthy families, at least in NASCAR, and believe me, there are plenty of racers in this country. Just about every city has a local dirt track that runs races at least once a week, usually more. There is never a shortage of talented drivers looking for a shot at one of the top three NASCAR series.

About the physical part... It's a very physical sport. I remember Kyle Busch had salt crystals on his uniform from sweating so much during a race. The talent part also includes reflexes, reaction times, and that sixth sense of knowing what you can and can't do with your car at any given moment (car control). You can teach car control to an extent, but some people have a knack for it at a level you just can't teach (Kyle Busch comes to mind).

So, it really depends on what racing series you're looking at. But regardless, it takes a lot of skill, trust me. Try racing some on a PC or a console, and you'll see what I mean.
  • The answer is yes and no. It definitely takes talent to do what they do. I hate when people say they could hop in a car and be just as fast. Thats ignorance. But racing IS hard to get into. Thus the amount of people you have to be better than is significantly less than it would be in other sports where many more kids can and do participate in. And because so few people actually ever get to race a car, they dont appreciate the talent required to do so.
  • Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon Why all the rivalry?

    May be...

  • The rivalry is because Dale Sr was THE driver for quite some time until Jeff Gordon came along and started dominating. Dale recognized his talent right away and respected Jeff. He was the person that gave Gordon the nickname "Wonder Boy." They had several business ventures together and were good friends away from the track but the fans always saw them as a threat to their driver. The rivalry just continued on to Jr and his fans after the tragic passing of Dale Sr.
  • tregosteevo should get the 10! My answer exactly. Good job!!

Apart from that I agree with you and a Gordon-fan best friend of mine who used to "hate" Jr likes him now LOL.
  • What driver doesnt have a "rivalry" with another driver? it's a part of the atmosphere, now i know there are some fans of Dale Jr. that dont like Gordon fans. It's just the sport of racing.

random thought, i think alot of drivers have a "rivalry" with Juan Pablo Montoa, he caused a few problems last season
  • I am a die hard Dale Jr fan, I also like Jeff Gordon..Jeff learned a lot from Dale Sr, and he had a lot to do with Rick Hendrick hiring Jeff Gordon.. Jeff and Dale Jr are team mates, I have no problems with it at all. I think its great.. There is just a part of Jr Nation that just doesn't like Jeff, I say grow up, you can't deny that Jeff Gordon is a great driver, his stats say it all..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I didn't think Dale Jr had a problem with Gordon and vice verse. I really think that it was between the fans of the two before Dale Jr joined HMS. I think alot of Dale Sr and newly Dale Jr fans didn't like it when Jeff Gordon tied and then passed Dale Sr in wins. That's just what I think was the dust up was from.
  • Dale was the man.. then this young punk kid Jeff comes outta no where and stomps the field, domination, not intimidation became the winner of Nascar.. then.. here comes Dale Jr.. everyone hoped him to be the next Dale, but better, new young talent here to take the reigns away from dad and stomp out the new blood like gordon.. but it yet has come to be.. Ima Gordon fan.. but Dale Jr is a better driver, but gordons a better racer..
  • Well I am a Diehard Jeff Gordon Fan and I also like Dale Jr. .And you are right Jeff probably learned more from The Intimidator than anyone else.
  • True, I like both drivers.

Can't we all just get along????

Besides, they are on the same team and don't seems to have a problem. In fact, when Jeff broke (or Tied) Dale Sr's win record Jr. was one of the first to come over and congratulate him BEFORE he was even out of the car.

Doesn't sound like a problem there.
  • Some people dont like Jeffs success VS Jrs. Lack of wins!!!!!
  • I think you mean the Intimidator not the terminator!

    haha
  • Tregosteevo, that was a great answer. Also, Dale was also a good business man and boy did those t-shirts fly off the shelves when that "rivalry" flared up. Truth is, there wasn't much of a rivalry. Yes, they were fierce competitors, but they also had tons of respect for each other. The rivalry was something they came up with to get the fans going and sell t-shirts. It has continued as a sort of Earnhardt v. Gordon tradition, and it has stuck because Gordon is polished and sophisticated whereas Jr. is a laid back country boy. Some people need this kind of stuff in their lives. I personally adore them both.
  • Excellent question....Junior always did and still does get along with most of the other drivers. I'm a Junior fan but I don't limit myself to just him. He's a great guy and his last name has nothing to do with his driving. It's all about people who have no idea what being a good sport is all about. I usually avoid these type of questions because nobody listens anyhow and just keeps ranting about Junior. But I couldn't resist this one! =o~} Peace!
  • I HATE JEFF GORDON AND WORSHIP THE GROUND JR WALKS ON! The problem is Jeff Gordon and his idiocy. He has gotten better since the birth of his daughter. Jeff Gordon whines over everything and he is a big baby he can't even walk in the shadow of the #3 Intimidator.
  • well the rivalry first started cause of Junior's dad Dale. You know Jeff was the start of "the New NASCAR" fans just love to hate on Jeff.
  • Jeff had a lot of respect for Dale Sr. and everything he has learned has probably been from the terminator. Dale Jr doesn't have any problems with him so why is it that the fans think that if you like Gordon you cannot possible like Jr!! I happen to like and respect both drivers and now that they are on the same team that' even better!!! Go Hendricks
  • Even though they are on the same team, I still say because of the lack of wins for Jr over the past few years. I am a big fan of Gordon but I am not a fan of Earnhardt Jr but I am also not a hater of his but if he wins or doesn't win, means nothing to me
  • When starting up a Late Model team, do I buy the cars with sponsorship dollars or buy it myself?

    May be...

  • It all depends on how smart you are and if you can smooth talk someone into it. No sponsor I know of will give you money if you don't even own a race car, but if you can talk someone into it, more power to you. Most sponsors won't talk to you without a team already in place and something to prove you are worth an investment.
  • If you build it, they will come.
  • You will probably have to build one yourself and then get sponsors, unless you are lucky and get some good sponsors with deep pockets. There was a local guy here in Louisiana that did that and won a couple of races now they all want to sponsor him. Good Luck !
  • Buy or Build the Car Yourself. Then use the Sponsorship Money to race it--This is how it works 99% of the time!!!!!!!!
  • Aren't you PROUD of Danika Patrick in today's win?

    May be...

  • very proud!! I knew she could do it. If one just could take their blinders off ans look how she gets better every year the writing was on the wall. This can only make her better. People are people and there will still be those who say red is green but only yellow in NA$CAR.
  • I was really dissapointed when that hottie got married to some chiropractor. Sometimes she makes me proud when she poses lasciviously in magazines.

Am i proud of her win? No. She won't get a second one during this IRL season. When you thumbs down this post, that's fine. But at the end of this IRL season where she sits in 10th place or lower, remember that i called it. The win was cute, but it has no bearing on the sport other than public interest.
  • I am...
  • yeah its nice to finally see a successful women driver!! Congrats Danika!!!
  • Eh.
I didn't watch it or anything.
I heard she won because whoever was in #1 ran out of gas and had to go into the pit?
If so, it's great that she's finally won a race, but it would have been cooler if she'd won by a nose.
  • Extremely Proud!!

I'm a native zoney, and worked in Scottsdale for several years!!

A whole lot of us zany zoneys are proud of Danica winning the biggest one, her very First!!

Hopen' nothin' but the best for her and her team!!
  • Yes, I am happy she got that first win..and I hope its just the start of seeing her in victory lane many more times..
  • I'm glad she got a win. I'd like to see her back in victory lane again before the year is over. A win is a win, no matter how you do it! She beat some of the best in the business at a track that can bite you when you least expect it.
  • girls in fire sutes are sexyy
  • Is race car driving really a sport?

    May be...

  • I don't think race car driving is a sport. It's like a chess game that use strategy and skill. Players like Kasparov and other grandmasters in chess, it involves endurance and stress but I could call it a sport. If sit here in front of my computer for 12 hours answering questions here, can you call it sport? I think not. It does not involve strenuous physical activities except the hand holding the wheel. My bottom line is BIG NO!
  • Actually believe it or not it is an endurance sport being in a small space and driving for hours on end never letting go of the wheel in 100+ degree heat no bathroom you should try it

Actually a lot of them do and they also so train about five days a week to stay in top physical health
  • As much or moreso as American Gladiators, ping pong, or rock climbing. Follow a driver's regimen for merely 1 week, ride a single lap absorbing the G-force in severe turns at near 200 mph and you will not only answer your own question you will not ask such a dumb question here again.
  • A sport requires mental and physical strength and endurance. Anyone who says racing at any level isn't a sport is not thinking logically.
  • I suppose you believe dancing isn't a sport...?
Helio C. won the Championship in that competition! (so that answers "Yes" to your 3rd ?
    &
    I suppose you believe snowboarding isn't a sport ?
    or windsurfing?
3 of your ignorant questions. I guess the title "Ignoramus" would apply to all of these that can be answered YES to.
  • What is the athletic physical ability that is needed to excell? Do professional race car drivers excell in other sports at world class level?
  • I can promise you and no track and field athlete could withstand the rigors of the current generation of F1 cars. Two hours of constant high-g lateral loading.

Drivers reflexes must be far, far quicker than what you seem to call an athlete. If a runner trips, no big deal. If a driver "trips" in a race.... they could die.

And by the way, several F1 drivers participate in bicycle races in the off season to stay in shape.

But I guess someone like Lance Armstrong isn't an athlete in your book either.

    Is it me or.....?

  • Danica does not complain to much. She has worked hard and she was just frustrated with herself and everyone else. There are so many wishing she will do bad and doubting her. She has overcome that. She has now won she is probably floating on cloud 9. She will win again. Now what you haters.
  • Shes just a winey girl. Thats all. She really has nothing to complain about. She weighs 70 pounds less than the other drivers which gives her an advantage on the track. That means her car has an excelleration advantage coming out of the turns.
  • It's you!
  • i think she will find something to complain about wherever she is. it's too bad that she can't be a good role model to girls out there who want to race and in the one sport where they can compete on a completely level field with the men. oh well, there is always sarah fisher who is now a car owner/driver and a great woman. i dont' understand why she has a hard time getting sponsorship. oh well....one more step....
  • All the drivers complain (or hadn't you noticed?)

The spotlight has been on Danica for so long, you just get more bang for your buck from the media, so you hear it more from her.

Believe me: If the number of "Paparazzi" who hound her would do the same to any other driver, you'd see what I'm talking about. (Just ask Buddy Rice. He complained incessantly after his big win, and once even said that if he'd known what it would do to his life, he would have thought twice at the finish line.)
  • does Danica Patrick complain too much? it just seems every time they give her an interview, she complaining about something. i wonder what she is gonna complain about winning her first race, they didn't celebrate hard enough after she won?
  • The national anthem?

    May be...

  • I thought he did a great job, considering his native language is Spanish, and he is not from the US. Like was mentioned before, I've heard a lot of no-talent AMERICAN singers do a lot worse.
  • i KNOW!> RIGHT?!
  • Aint that the truth. WOW. Ive heard drunk people sing it better than that.
  • The only NASCAR race I've ever been to in my entire life was in Talladega. Most of the people around me were talking, drinking, wearing hats during the national anthem.

    That's even more disrespectful.

If you're seriously concerned about the national anthem of the USA that was played before a race in Mexico, relax!
  • I agree!!!!!
  • They didn't have to sing it at all. Everybody makes mistakes. It too guts to get up there and sing it the best he could! Give 'em a break.

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • Anyone remember the Rosanne Barr - National Anthem fiasco several years ago? I'll take today's rendition over that INTENTIONALLY disrespectful version ANY DAY!
  • Ever hear the saying "break a leg?" Poor singer... lol It was a good try. I've seen Americans do worse at football games and races here in the US.
  • they could have at least had somebody who could pronounce the words
  • yeah the guy kept saying the wrong words and he couldn't even pronounce them right. Thats disrespectful to all the drivers and crews who are American.
  • At least ESPN put the National Anthem on and not some game that doesnt mean anything in April. Fox could take a lesson or two from ESPN.
  • Does anyone think Dale jr will ever get back into his grove of wining?

    May be...

  • He is not winning but he is 3rd in the chase
  • Oh yes, Definitely! it is going to be at Talledega.
  • I think he will. We've already seen him be more consistent and competitive than he's been in a long while. I think he needs a new crew chief. IMHO, Eury Jr. seems to lack the ability to keep the car handling well as the track changes. That has always been the Achilles heel of that team. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Eury Jr. isn't really on top of things like other crew chiefs are.
  • dale jr is my favorite driver and he is just not winning do u think he will ever become as good as he was in 2004 because its been 74 races since he has won
  • Jeff Gordon could wipe his *** with Dale Jr.!!!!
  • yes he will it will take time this year he will win the cahse for the cup trophy but thats just me b/c i'm his #1 fan
  • Ya really soon!
  • of course: talledega.. don't worry about junebug he'll come around. Hendricks has the best cars
  • And which grove would that be?
  • True, he hasn't won yet. But, he is third in the points, and has been very consistent. They just need to figure out a way to make his car stay good all the way to the end. The car tends to drop off in the last thirty to fifty laps. I could see how all his fans want him to get a win very badly, but he is doing great this year making the transition to a new team.

I think it's actually been sixty nine races since he last won.
  • He is doing great this year. He is also doing better than the rest of the Hendrick drivers. It is going to happen this week at Talladega.
  • It's been like 70 races actually. Unfortunately, yes he will. All the Junior nuts will have their egos satisfied.
  • His step mother did everything she could to keep him from winning I'm convinced of that. Now that all he has to worry about is winning he will get back in the winning circle.
  • Yes. He will. I think it takes a little time to adjust when ever anybody moves to a new job or location. He won at the beginning of the season. He's driving consistently. Not only is he having to adjust but his crew chief is and also four of his former pit crew members are having to adjust as well. It's a learning curve and transition for more than just Jr. Hendricks pit crew members are having to learn to work with Jr's pit crew. It's a team sport and may take time to perfect. I would think you will see a slight increase in performance from the 88 team by the time the chase starts. He's still doing good. He would probably be leading the points if Casey Mears had not have taken him out of a race (freak accident) earlier this season. When he picks up a win his self esteem will pick up too.
  • I believe he will, give him some time,
  • Spell check, you left out an "H", it's "whining". And to me it's actually his fans who are always "whining", Dale just can't live up to their standards for him.
  • How do you think the rest of the men at Indy feel about Danica winning?

    May be...

  • they feel like sh*t. its a simple fact the men do not like to be beat by women in any sport...
  • I would hope that they are mature enough to accept it with the grace it merits. So far, all I've seen is happiness for her on the faces of the other drivers.

Any "kibitzing" we might see would likely be poking fun for the media attention.

This milestone is going to bring in muchos doneros for the IRL, and there shouldn't be a sad face in the bunch ;^)
  • If I were Danica, I don't think I could resist the temptation to pick on the other drivers. Ha Ha, You got beat by a girl! Race drivers don't like getting beat by anyone, it doesn't matter male or female.
  • They should not feel bad shes a pretty good driver she has came close to winning alot it was going to happen sooner or later I am personally surprised it took this long.
  • I would imagine they feel the same as if any of the other drivers won. While racing is a sport and requires physical strength and endurance, it's not the same thing as running, cycling, rowing, or any other event where your physical power is what causes the forward motion.
  • I mean, they probably feel like crap, i know i would.. I'm a man after all. Like Helio, i bet he feels like crap. I know they're hiding it, but inside I bet they feel EXTREMELY LOW.
    Congratulations Danica.
BTW.. Danica Patrick is DROP DEAD FREAKIN HOT!!!!!1
  • any driver who feels like crap should feel like crap for one simple reason.... they didn't win. if they feel like crap because they got beat by a woman, then they're drivers with no vision. cry me a river every time i got beat by a "girl". ya'll saw this coming.....deal and get over, INDY 500, she's on her way!
