Why is NASCAR such a hugh sport, or even a sport at all?

May be...

  • Sport : An activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

It takes skill and physical prowess and is competitive in nature.
Driving a car isn't a sport, driving a car at 185 mph with 42 other cars in such a close proximity for competition is.
  • It takes a lot of skill to be in Nascar. Not only to win but to avoid collisions. It's a very exciting and fun sport to watch, as least to me.
  • im NOT dissing NASCAR, i just dont understand how driving a car is considered a sport?
  • well it ways 3400 lb and they go 3 or 4 wide inches apart for up to 600 miles(most of the time 500) and if they were to slam the gas pedal down the would spin out cause they have 850 horsepower
  • its not a hugh sport but it is HUGE!! yep millions of fans and sold out most races. Its a sport. You came here thru "motorSPORTS".
Now don;'t forget your next question should be how do drivers go pee.
  • I'm tired of trying to explain the whole sports argument to non fans. And it seems like this question gets asked way too often and of course is never meant as a diss. I do hope that somebody on here is able to explain it to you though.
  • Asking a question IS dissing the sport.
  • It takes more work then people think, and more knowledge then people think. The cars are not the same as we drive on the regular street, they have more power and speed. With the speed that they have going into the corner they have a lot more g-force on them that takes being fit to be able to stand. Also the cars, on the inside they dont have the gauges that we do that say how fast they are going so they have to know what the rpm's calculate to in order to know how fast they are going, they have to be able to take care of the heat gauges, and all the other ones. And that is just inside of the car. They have to be able to watch where they are going while they are keeping track of the people that are an inch next to them and the ones that are drafting behind them. They also have to be quick thinking and have quick reflexes to avoid the accidents.

Also dont forget the crew members, NASCAR is not just about the driving, you also have to take into consideration the pit crew that comes over the wall that changes a whole bunch of stuff on the cars like 4 tires, and wedge adjustments, and track bar adjustments and gas in 13 seconds. All of it takes skill to do just like any other sport takes skill.
  • in every sport you are part of a team, it is a team effort to be the best, the driver in the car is only part of a team. what other sport can you watch 43 teams compete at the same time? with the longest season of any sport? Now if you can get football players to hit each other at 120-200 mph that would be exciting to see ha ha.
  • You have never been to a race. TV cannot do Nascar justice for what a fan can witness in the stands. Being there is so much different. TV only lets you see and here what they want you to see. I.E. Dale Jr.
  • I think anything that is done competitively, with a goal of winning, is a sport.
  • If you have never heard of motor-sports, you need to get out more.
  • it's more to it if u put it in simple form no sport is a sport throwing a ball then running in everyone to get to the person with the ball i mean football has alot of strategy and so does nascar its not like driving a street car 900 hp alot of g forces sometimes power steering goes out and you just cant quit 3,500 lb car sometimes the cooler for the helmet goes out ok no they dont run catch but its a sport to me
i invite u to watch a race and talk to us about it i know you'll be hookedviewsonic airpanel 100
  • Ok i like to watch nascar w/ my best friend but i dont know how to say some thing that will set her off.?

    May be...

  • Your best friend sounds a bit uptight. If she is a true friend she should listen to your opinion weather she agree' or not. Best friends can usually say anything to each other, right.
  • can u say catfight?

leave it off hear, none wants to hear yalls BS
  • Research it a little, form your own opinion and stick to it. Try doing the opposite of what she does, sometimes that can be fun.

Be a Kyle Busch fan. He is an awesome driver and contends for the win every week. Most fans hate him ( I think this is because down deep they know he is the best driver in all of NASCAR)!!!

    Good luck to you!

    Go Rowdy!!!!!!
  • just call her favorite driver lame or overrated
  • Well Catalyna, maybe you should tell her, and by her I mean me, how you feel instead of taking your personal problems to this site. I mean first of all, your not giving them the full story. Every driver I like you like, and every driver I don't like you don't like. I mean seriously, in the beginning of the season, you loved Scott Speed, and he was in your top 3, but as soon as you found out I didn't like him, you stopped liking him. You thought Dale Jr was a hottie, but as soon as you found out that I didn't care for him, you stated calling him gay. Seriously, don't try and degrade me when your the problem. Just be yourself, then I won't get pissed off! Take it up with me before talking crap to this site!!
  • Just be true to the driver that YOU like. In our house it gets fun on race day. I like Jeff Gordon, fiancee- Kasey Kahne, oldest son- Jeff Gordon, oldest daughter- Jimmie Johnson, Youngest son, Dale Jr., youngest daughter- too young to chose yet.

    GO 24!!!!
  • I would tell her how it makes you feel. If she still acts this way, I'd just watch by myself or find someone else to watch it with them. I usually watch races with my dad, and sometimes it gets pretty contentious. That is fun for us. However, you don't sound like you're having fun with this.
  • cause every time i say something about nascar she always think that im trying to be someon im not. it ticks me off when she does that and she does it constantley
  • I used to watch NASCAR with my old roommate, it was fun to pull for the opposite driver that he did. I have no clue what's going on between you two, and I have no clue what goes on in the female brain. But for the two of us, (two males) it was fun to have a friendly rivalry, so that there could be some trash talking come race day. Have fun! No reason to start a cat fight over anything.

If there is a cat fight, can you record it, and broadcast it on the web? Thanks!
  • OMg i have the same problem with my friend. i just say what i feel she like just follows me..but like knows i am loyal. we are in gymnastics together and always fighting who has the best routine. but we are always best friends.
  • Just call her fat.handmade-makeup-bags
  • FINAL ROUND of Who would win a fight (NASCAR vs. NBA vs. WWE vs. NFL vs. Boxing vs. MLB!) )Nascar vs. WWE)?

    May be...

  • The Rock would knock Dale,Srs' head off....if the wall hadn't already....

    I know, I'll burn for that one....lol
  • The Rock would, and you are probably getting bist answers because its the NASCAR category
  • Senior.
  • The Rock would dominate because he was a pro fighter.
  • Well I may get some thumbs down for this but The Rock would win just because he was a professional fighter. He would still know some moves and be an overall better fighter. Dale Sr. was a tough fighter I'm sure but The Rock would still win.
  • The Rock would put up a good fight, but WWE matches only last for so long, but NASCAR drivers have to have endurance over a much longer period of time during a race. So The Rock gets some good shots early on, but The Intimidator outlasts him.
  • LOL. I used up ALL of the character space.
Representing the NASCAR Bracket, he has won 7 championships in what is now the Sprint Cup Series, Dale Earnhardt Sr!!!
And Representing the WWE bracket, He is currently pursuing an acting career, Dwayne "The Rock" JOHNSON!!!!!
Pick who you think would win a fight! First one to 5 votes WILL WIN the Y!A Who Would Win A fight Championship!
  • Truthfully, I think if SR, was still alive (R.I.P. Dale Sr.) that the Rock would see the look of fear in the eyes of The Man In Black! And would realize why they call him the Intimidator!

That's why the Rock was running down the street with his tail tucked under!watering-a-vegetable-garden
  • Why do some teams have it and others not.... curz?

    May be...

  • Some teams ave it, some dont. some teams win and then theres
    Barca loner

    curs stands for
    control ur rubbish stella intake.

kurs is by no means............................... (feel in the banks)

    bankkurs
  • Its Kers, and because some don't feel its worth it. You'll see more teams using it in future though, its still a new thing.
  • KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) is an option this seaon that is apprarently becoming mandatory next season.
There is a very mixed view over the usefulness of the system which stores enegry dissipated through braking & saves it in a sort of battery that can be used for specified times each lap to give extra bhp.
The downside is the added weight of the battery in the cars with KERS & the some fluctuations in reliability.

In some races the teams with KERS have decided to turn it off when issues have arisen & these cars are then still carrying the extra weight without the extra power bonus.

So far KERS has proven unpredictable in the wet & seems to have greatest advantage on circuits with long straights to get the extra power boost. Monaco is not the friendliest circuit to the KERS cars.
  • im not sure on spelling but kers, kurz, curs, curz etc etc.... i know what it does but why do some teams have it and others not? also i might be wrong but im sure that some teams have it at 1 grand prix then not at the next... but like i said i might of made that last bit up?
  • It's KERS and some teams don't want the extra weight on their car. Like with Kubica, who is quite heavy, it would slow him down as the combined weight of driver plus KERS would be a disadvantage.how to produce cheap
  • F1; are there any drivers in GP2, or A1GP you'd like to see in F1?

    May be...

  • I also don't follow the lower categories, so I'm quite uneducated about the drivers.
Having said, that, I would like to see Liuzzi have another go, Senna Jnr (is he in GP2 still?) and he's not in either series, but for god's sake, someone bring back Sato!
Don't you worry, you will be seeing a lot of GP2 and A1GP drivers in F1 from next year....at the rate FOTA/FIA meeting is going...
  • I haven't followed GP2 closely but I think Grosjean is impressive. He has always won races regardless of teams and it looks like he has hit the jackpot this year with the "brawnesque" Barwa Addax team. I only watched the end of the second race of the season so far, Grosjean was struggling with the tyres but he kept it together and finished second.

I expect both Grosjean and Senna to be on the grid next year, given that there will be many new seats available.
  • I've always wanted to see Neel Jani have a shot... He's proven through his A1GP exploits to be the best in that rung of the racing ladder, but maybe his chance to be in F1 has passed.

Lucas Di Grassi could be in real danger of becoming the new Giorgio Pantano (even Pantano has F1 experience!), in that he's now in his 4th year (!!!!!) of GP2... maybe he should've been in Piquet's seat we don't know, as I don't see him having that much over Nelsinho based on the only comparison we can do in GP2...

People have been making mutterings about Adam Carroll from A1 Team Ireland, but I don't know if he could just step into an F1 car. I still think GP2 is the best measure atm and his results weren't great, but then neither were Buemi's and that didn't stop STR taking him on...

Tonio Liuzzi is the best candidate for any team looking for experience and speed... he has been unlucky not to be put in for either Sutil or Fisichella, and should be in the car for next year...

I also like Nico Hulkenberg, who Frank Williams sees a lot in, giving him the test role that has given rise to such careers as Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya and others... so it's quite a privileged position despite Williams gradual decline... Frank is looking to put him in a seat but is in a quandary as he clearly likes both Rosberg and Nakajima, and Kazu has the Toyota backing he needs. It'll be interesting to see Rosberg's position in the driver market later this year and whether Sir Frank will promote Nico II if Rosberg moves on...
  • Must admit I haven't followed any other single seater race series for a while
  • There are a lot of rumors of GP2 drivers possibly making the F1 step as main drivers (not only test drivers). Names surfaced are Chandhok, Teixeria, di Grassi, Rodriguez, Grosjean and Hulkenberg (and possibly others that I may be forgetting). Grosjean has really impressed this season in GP2, and his results speak for themselves. I like the prospect of Hulkenberg. These last 2 guys I would like to see in F1 already next season.

I don't follow A1GP, but Liuzzi is there, and he deserves to be back in F1 full time as a driver and not just as a test driver.

And with the possible arrival of new teams in 2010, I think all 3 drivers I mentioned (Grosjean, Hulkenberg and Liuzzi) have a great chance to be in the lineup next season.
  • .

I said I'd like to see Grosjean and The Hulk in F1 last season and that still stands.

Both are consistent performers and would be a credit to F1.

    .
  • Niko Hulkenberg, Adam Carroll and Roman Grosjean.

Hulkenberg is blistering fast. I remember watching him win A1GP a couple of years back and I was absolutely blown away by how quick he was.

Adam Carroll is fast and extremely consistant. He just won the A1GP and I'm surprised that he hasn't been mentioned yet. He was very good in GP2 as well and has even beaten Lewis Hamilton before.

Grosjean has impressed in his testing times in the Renault car. Expect to see him in the race seat soon if Piquet doesn't get his act together.vgtalk

  • Should Danica Patrick heed Jimmie's advice?

    May be...

  • I agree with Jimmie on this. She is a great driver but she needs more time and experience behind the wheel if she wants to race with the "big boys" of Nascar
  • Danica Patrick is a turn off when it comes to motorsports. She would get "creamed" in NASCAR Those cars she drives cant bump-n-grind and we all know they're all traction. The IRL and F1 is a delicate sport compared to NASCAR. NASCAR is much more brutal. A couple of good licks into the wall, which is inevitable in NASCAR, and I would guarantee she wouldn't feel to sexy in a bikini. Let her come to NASCAR and learn a lesson. A mans lesson. You can't tiptoe your way around a NASCAR race track. Even the IRL fans would agree. I accidentally posted a question in their forum, and they all agreed the move would be foolish. When Danica finishes ends up like Franchitti and the others, she better hope she has the guts to take her clothes off for the camera. She's a little person, and a stock car would consume her. I don't think she could handle coming out of a corner sideways at 180 m.p.h. with Kyle Busch or Dale Earnhardt junior squeezing her into the wall. So yeah... she should "at least" take Jimmie's advice.
  • It's my second season of watching IRL, so if a noob like me can see it, it should be blatantly obvious to long time IRL fans. Danica Patrick is not worth all the hype she gets.
Danica's decent, she usually runs in the top 10(ish) but she doesn't ever seal the deal.
    She doesn't win!
If she can't win in IRL, what makes her think she can win in NASCAR?
If Danica has a lick of sense about her, she'd take Jimmie's advice.
I'd love to see a successful female driver in NASCAR, I just don't see it being Danica...at least not the way she races right now.
  • I Read the story, and In my opinion she should just stay where she is in Indy. She does all right there and I really don't think driving for two years in Nationwide is going to get her a cup Ride.

But then again maybe I am just showing how stupid I am.
But I did do my home work this time.

Dang Fluffy, tell us how you really feel LMAO
  • I kind of do agree but lean more to not agreeing. I see his point in she just can't jump in and be competitive. Who knows...maybe she can. Odds are she can't and I think that is what Jimmie is basing his opinion on.

However I think it also may be good for her to jump in and give it her all. That may mean she'll have to take a cut in pay by running in the Nationwide series a season before she can compete in the Cup series.
  • It is good advice. I think she is sharp enough to realize she isn't going to come into Nascar and be up to speed right away. She isn't stupid.
  • Hey we are guys sexual fantasies can never be put aside, heck I wish there would be an all ladies topless racing league!
  • fluffy's answer is right, but for the wrong reasons.. While I believe she would have to get experience in bigger cars, 180 mph in one of the cars she drives, would mean she was coming on to pit road.. And don't point at Franchitti, and say "see", she is younger, and will learn much faster.. Report Abuse
  • This is what I got out of that story.
    1. Toughest personality, are you kidding me. Tougher than who?
    2. It is her lack of talent. There's an understatement.
    3. Patrick is a major league star. Compared to who, Graham Rahal?
    4. Hook on with a team that can make her an immediate winner. Jimmie got that one correct, he said "Can't imagine where that is".
    5. Batting her eye's at Nascar provide's attention. She has mine for all the wrong reason's.
    6. She rightfully note's that her first Nascar race would be the most watched in history. Sound's egotistical to me.

Stay where you are lady, please don't water down Nascar.
  • I think it's good advice and any driver considering the move from open wheel racing to stock cars should heed that advice, Danica included.

But it's something she should do only if she loves the sport (NASCAR). That goes for every open wheel driver. I'm not sure why open wheel drivers have attempted to run in NASCAR. I don't read articles about them or anything. The impression I've gotten is because it pays well and it's a bigger stage in this country than the IRL. Personally, I don't feel that is a good enough reason. Loving what you do is one part of being successful. If Danica tries out a stock car and falls in love with the sport, then I'll all for it, and she should definitely take Jimmie's advice on how to go about it.
  • yes
  • Or is she really THAT good??

Sexual fantasies aside guys...is she a good enough to thumb her nose at Jimmie's advice???
    http://sports.yahoo.com/irl/news?slug=dw...
  • yes she needs to listen get what they call seat time b 4 she jumps to cup i dont really see her as a tony stewart but even he did some bush series races
  • Although she has only won one race in IRL, there have been a lot of times that she was doing well when guys crashed her out. In fact, last year's Indy 500, it happened on pit road. So, I can't really get a feel for exactly how good or bad she is. Still, I think it's pretty pompous of Jimmie Johnson to try to tell her what to do. He does not know what she is (or isn't) capable of. Yes, it would be smarter to come up through the lower series. However, Sam Hornish Jr did not do that. He was an excellent IRL racer, but he pretty much sucks in Nascar. Maybe with a poorer record in IRL, Danica could be more suited to the Nascar style. In any event, she is the one who will suffer the consequences if it is a poor choice. No woman has ever succeeded in Nascar before, but I'm not against letting her have a chance.
  • I think that what Jimmie said is the best way to get to the top, regardless of who they are, or think they are. I think she really does need to make a little more noise in the IRL before she seriously considers a NASCAR career.

And I didn't say anything about how hot I think she is. Until now, that is.
  • i say at least give Danica a shot like everybody else. we'll never know how good she'll be in Nascar until she try's.

i say let Danica compete in Nascar.
  • I think she should if she does leave IndyCar. I was thinking the same thing- spend a year or two in ARCA or the Nationwide series. I'd like to see her in a stock car, but only if she succeeds. I wouldn't want her to fail in NASCAR.

I personally think she should stay in IndyCar for now, but her decision is what matters most. If she wants to make the switch to stock cars, then that's fine with me. If she does, she should gain experience and race in the lower series first.
  • YES, Johnson has given her excellent advice and if she doesn't follow it,
she is in for a big humiliation.
  • Yes, she's not ready and she never will be. To tell you the truth, she really is a medicore driver. She better become the IRL champion before she even thinks about jumping to NASCAR.
  • I think that Jimmie is 100% right with his advice. Look how many open wheelers have tried to jump into cup cars and failed.

  • How tall are the SAFER BARRIER walls?

    May be...

  • Are you sure you mean Daytona?? The Safer Barrier there is about ten feet high, but because of the banking in turn one, the bottom of the wall is about two stories above the ground..
  • Don't know if y'all saw but turn one at Daytona is under water half way up the SAFER BARRIER Wall, so just how tall is it?
  • From the track surface to the top of the wall, it's the height of the rear deck lid of the new car, so roughly 4 feet tall, because the rear wing fits over the top of the wall perfectly.

Ok, I read the article, and I think it means that along the straightaways, the water reached as high as halfway up the barrier, and the Turn 1 tunnel was filled. Roughly 2 feet up the barrier was flooded on the straights.applied chemicals ltd
  • Would you like to see Danica Patrick drive in the Cup Series?

    May be...

  • At the risk of sounding sexist, I've never seen a woman cut out for Cup racing. I personally wouldn't wanna see her there.
  • I'd rather see her run some USAC sprint and midget stuff to learn to race. Who needs the tin-tops. Real race cars don't have fenders.
  • and watch her stuggle, and resort to being feminine in a bikini?
  • NO. Danica wouldn't even qualify for many of the races. She might do alright in the truck series. Bikini pics are seldom a bad thing.
  • Yes I would. I would love to watch her fail. Not because she is a woman, but because she is arrogant. She thinks she can hop in a Sprint Cup stock car and race like everybody else without learning the feel of that type of racing on a smaller circuit. That is so very arrogant. NASCAR fans aren't the kind of fans who would openly except her either. If she were willing to race ARCA and Nationwide for a few years to get the feel, then I would totally support her. But she thinks her star power is gonna power her to the Checkered flag at Talladega. She's gonna have to do a Playboy spread to make money after the NASCAR fans run her out of town.
  • Real race cars don't have fenders? I think you have forgotten about Le Mans, buddy.cardbackup palm

Has a nascar driver ever been stalked or hårassed by a crazy fan?

    May be...

  • not really stalked by fans, but i did see Jeff Gordon on one of the paparazzi shows (E! used to have a show like this) a few years back. Gordon was at the beach with his wife, and the paparazzi where there taking their pictures.
  • Drivers are always harassed by fans walking through the garage. They always maintain good composure and it doesn't seem like harassment, but wouldn't a bunch of people shouting, bumping, shoving and asking for your autograph get somewhat annoying after a while??
  • Yes I am sure a nascar driver has been stalked by a nascar fan. One fan comes into mind that would stalk drivers and other fans. Though it is nothing that the legal system or a little southern justice can't sort out.
  • I'm sure they have
  • If you are a true Nascar fan you will know that they are all totally different than other fans. Nascar fans have respect for each driver and I haven't ever heard of anyone of them being stalked or harassed by any fans. We are definitely a true breed.
  • Well JJ Yeley has that crazy fan...
  • Yes ICE is sure of it!!!!!
  • Sorry Gopher. I didn't get a chance to answer your question. But I had this one fan once that use to stalk me because I didn't give her a best answer. I think she was a Robby Gordon fan. I hope she doesn't do that to Robby. But anyway that's an interesting question. Report Abuse
  • Not that I remember or can find in GOOGLE.

But that does not mean it wasn't hushed up.

  • I remember last year (or maybe 2 years ago), during a red flag at Watkins Glen, a fan actually walked up to Kenseth's parked car and asked for an autograph. Of course, he was escorted away by officials.

  • Monaco practice question?

    May be...

  • It's also on around the same time as the Cannes film festival.
  • why is it always on a thursday?

just something ive always wondered but dont know the answer
  • It's because the streets are re-opened to the public on Friday. Strange but true.
It's almost always on the same weekend each year (Ascension) and the Thursday is a public holiday. People need to be able to go shopping on the Friday because they can't otherwise between Wednesday evening and Monday morning.
  • I once heard as it was not to disturb the late Prince Rainer and Princess Grace! Haha, but Rosbif is right. . :-)
  • Two day practise with quali on sat and race sunday.

Most thursday and friday sessions don't tell you a lot, it's all about set-up, trying new parts, fuel loads, etc and so the fastest times don't mean anything.

You can sometimes get it on:

  • I have one first favorite driver then all the rest are second. Heck, I just love nascar.
  • Tony Stewart #1, Jeff Gordon #2.

note: i also cheer for; David Reutimann, Juan Pablo Montoya, Paul Menard, Michael Waltrip, and Eric McClure (#24 Nationwide series Hefty driver).
  • 24 is my 1st
    48 is my 2nd
  • Kurt Busch.
  • Jeff Gordon
    Joey Logano
    Kurt Busch
  • Yes, I do have a second favorite, and it's close between Carl Edwards and David Ragan. Carl impressed me in the Truck series, then when he moved up to Cup and got his first top 10 in his first race. His first win solidified me as a fan. I like Ragan because he took over the car I rooted for for years, and, even though he's still learning, last year was an impressive year.
  • David Reutimann
  • Kyle Busch. He has the potential to be the best driver ever. He does not worry about points, the day is a washout if he is second even. We need more people with a spirit instead of being little drones. His personality is so big, he should have been from Texas!civ iii no cd patch

  • Why won't a top tier team go after Bobby Labonte?

    May be...

  • I like Bobby. But what I'm getting from others is that he's lost the edge, or the desire to win. I think it may be a lack of good equipment and Bobby knows when he has the equipment to challenge for a win...or when he doesn't. I sure would have liked to see him drive for RCR.

thanks for the shark story. I won't be swimming at Indian Rocks
    Beach anytime soon! LOL j/k
  • I dont think so, hes not a great driver that will be a chase guy, just a top 30.
  • I think Richard Petty Motorsports is what hurt Bobby's career. The equipment really sucked there and it did nothing for Bobby's image. Bobby is a good racer if he has good cars.

RCR would be great for Bobby Labonte.
  • I just don't get it. Also. Would RCR have offered him a ride if they didn't snag Casey Mears before Bobby left Petty?

    *sidenote*

Hey check it out. My personal best with a great story behind it.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/37011557@N0...
  • Labonte would be doing a lot better at RCR than Mears. I think that RCR tried to sign Labonte first, but he was dedicated to Petty. When Petty dumped Labonte, Mears was already signed with RCR.
  • Age perhaps, it's the only thing I can think of.
Bobby would've been better than Casey Mears at RCR.

    Beautiful shark.
    *shivers*
  • nice catch
i dont really get casey mears but childress must see something in him i dont but i would jump at the opportunity to get labonte he has alot of wisdom the other drivers could use and he would get your car home in one piece too
  • I have no clue either. Labontie is a great driver who has the wins (and championships) to back him up. He really deserves to be in better equipment. And from some of the things I have heard Bobby wanted to drive for RCR, but they may have not offered him a contract. Which is insane if it's true; picking Mears over Labontie. But heck what do I know... It seems Richard is already having a hard enough time getting his cars to run in the top 20 here lately.

Nice shark btw. I hope I never come across one that big lol.
We went to the beach here a few weeks ago and I hooked a 3 ft long Hammerhead, surf fishing surprisingly, only about 15ft from the shore. I let him go though. There were a lot of small whiting around so I'm guessing that was what was attracting them. I'm not much of a fishing person. I always end up feeling bad for them and want to let them go lol. It bugs everyone else I go with, they always want to keep them.
  • I don't know why he is never chosen. Maybe they want the younger drivers. Used to be the name LaBonte meant winner.

MAN you caught that shark??? WOW. How awesome. I caught a baby hammerhead off a pier at Carolina Beach North Carolina. Just a little thing from my elbow to the tips of my fingers but that sure was a prize for me. Even that little thing was a battle.
  • too much fresh meat
    speaking of fresh meat
    i'll take walleye over shark
and hide out in the North woods
    I'm afraid of sharks
  • rcr offered him a ride in their new #33 cheerios chevy but he decided to stay with petty because of loyalty.when petty had to release him he must of been wishing he went with rcr,but then he could have went and drove the dei #8 but i guess it's a good thing he didn't go their because the #8 is gone.
  • I think if Bobby would have left Petty RCR would have definately picked him up. I dont know why a top tier team wont pick him up. I know if he had good equipment under him and a good team behind him he would be a top driver again like he was 5 years ago.
  • Labonte is too old.

Do you eat the Spinner Shark or kill them just for fun?
  • I agree with ML. I think his age and marketability might have played a factor in a top tier team not signing him. I was really shocked when he left Petty. There is probably alot behind the scenes we don't know but I like Bobby.

Congrats on snagging that Shark. I couldn't imagine trying to reel something in like that. Nothing quite that big here at Lake Fork.
  • I don't get it either HMS signed Mark Martin and he is older, and he is not a former Cup Champion like Labonte is.. IDK maybe Bobby is not as flashy or marketable as Mark. I'd rather have Labonte than Martin any day. Oh yes, cool photo of that hammerhead, dang the only shark I ever caught was a banjo shark off the seal beach pier it was only maybe 10 pounds tore up my entire line, it was one tough critter got him in put yes I get him go, then I caught a long string of mussels then I called it quits for the day, and headed for a ice cold Corona. But I'm for Labonte any day, I'm sure he'd do a heck of a lot better than Casey Mears at RCR for sure.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Bobby's 45 years old. He's a decrepit old man to NASCAR's target audience. Casey's still young and very marketable. I will finally admit that he's not that good of a driver. But I still like him.
Congrats on the big fishy. Good to know Ugly Sticks aren't just for beating Kyle Busch with. lol j/kthumb hole stock
  • Will Jeff Gordon's back pain make him retire sooner in his career?

    May be...

  • Hello ICE how you doing ????? no it will not hurt gorden
  • That depends on whats wrong with his back. Mark Martin had back surgery ten years ago. I remember he needed help getting in and out of his car because it was so bad. He had surgery, and look at him now. 50 years old and going strong. I hope Jeff gets his fixed just as well. It would be a shame to lose such a good driver and competitor to early retirement if his condition could be fixed.
  • It's a good possibility. Mainly is going to depend on exactly what is wrong with his back. I have 3 ruptured discs in my lower back, two in my neck, and 1 in my mid-back. I am pretty limited to what I can do. I am in the middle of trying to make a career change(what a time to be doing that ,huh) and it is tough.

    GO 24!!!!
  • I think it will be a factor if he cannot manage it. I sure hope he can!!!
  • It could if it becomes bad enough.
  • He just had a minor procedure done on his back. It was an injection of anti- inflamatory medicine. His doctor said it could help him to be more comfortable in car.
  • It could if it gets bad enough...I hope that he knows that if he is going to put ICE on it he is going to need more than a Little Chip.
  • could be if it starts to hurt to much when he is driving in races
maybe he should ask yas ICE what to do

Does Robby Gordon have a younger sister?

    May be...

    Is this Robby's sister?
  • Wiki says: Gordon's sisters Beccy Gordon and Robyn Gordon Beccy Gordon was born in the off-road racing Gordon family. Beccy’s great-grandfather, Huntly Gordon, raced Indy cars in the early 1900s and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Her father, “Baja Bob” Gordon entered the off-road racing scene in 1977. Beccy Gordon's mother, Marlene Gordon, pre-ran the Baja 500 when she was seven months pregnant with Beccy. Her sister Robyn Gordon, is listed as the only female to have ever won the Baja 1000 overall. [1] Robby Gordon, her brother, has competed in numerous genres of racing, including the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, Baja 1000, and Paris to Dakar rally.competed in the 2006 Baja 1000 on the all woman team All-American Girl Racing.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robby_Gordo...
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Chapman University, Beccy decided to talk about racing. Beccy became a pit-reporter and feature host for the Champ Car World Series in 2004 and 2005. She is currently a spokesmodel for NASCAR and Phoenix International Raceway.

Beccy and her sister, Robyn Gordon, formed an all female off-road race team, All-American Girl Racing. In 2006, AAGR became the only all girl team to complete the Baja 1000, [3] and rounded out the season with two victories. They competed in Class 10 and Baja Challenge division. [4] Beccy was selected by Toyota Motorsports to participate in the 2008 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach as a "Pro" driver. This was Beccy's first race on pavement

  • What are your plans for the Coca Cola 600 Weekend?

    May be...

  • Im going to sit and be lazy all day and enjoy a full day of racing with my beautiful wife. Im going to pull for Graham Rahal in the Indy 500 and the Blue Deuce in the 600. Good luck to everyones favorite drivers and have a safe Memorial Day.

**God Bless and remember the US Military and the Veterans this weekend** Without them we would have no racing to enjoy.
  • One word... RACING!

Be cheering Kimi Raikkonen, Graham Rahal, and David Ragan.

Wedge, have fun at Speed Street. When I went, we were lucky our hotel was in walking distance from Tryon! Tiring, but fun!
  • No not watching the Indy 500. I have a bridal shower to attend...the twins have a play (Tom Sawyer) they are in for two nights...I am making cookies for the intermission both nights.
I will get to see the Sprint race though.
  • i am going to go to church and than i am going to watch the race
  • Watch the races.
  • I will spend whatever spare time I have trying to build a race car, watching the Monaco Gran Prix, Indy 500, and the Coke 600. Man, this weekend has got to be the best of them all !!!
  • I for one will be watching 1100 miles worth of racing this weekend. I have no big plans...mostly just couch potato style.
  • going to my wife's cousin house on sunday so ill be watching races in between time
  • Drink beer and eat...NO wait,Drink beer and thats it......
  • I will just relax and enjoy the race weekend. I'll be pulling for Dan Wheldon in the 500 and Gordo as usual in the 600. Can't wait for Sunday!
  • I'll watch the Indy 500 'til the Coca-Cola 600 pre-race.From then on,it's nothing but Nascar.I can't wait!

    GO MARK!!!!!
  • I am looking forward to the Coca Cola 600 nascar race and I will record the Indy race too. This weekend is moving weekend for me so I will be swamped.
  • I try to catch Indy on the radio and the 600 on TV. It would be great for IndyCar if a driver who qualified with a weekend engine rental agreement can pull off an incredible upset, but it looks like Penske and Ganassi will be battling it out in the closing laps for the top spots.
  • Are you also watching the Indy 500?
Go Andretti... John Andretti that is!
  • To drink Coca Cola?
  • I will probably catch a few moments of the Indy 500, but the rest of the day is dedicated to the Coca Cola 600.

Good Luck to everyone's driver(s) in each race!
  • Yay! Nice long weekend. Saturday I will finally be planting my flowers and of course visit my Dad's grave, he was a WWll Navy guy so we always go visit on the Memorial Day weekend. I have a bit of a story for ya.

My dad served in WWll and never got a memorial marker for his grave and he died back in 2000. I have been fighting with the Government to get him 'officially noticed' (the cemetery he is in they put out American flags on each Vet's grave, my dad has never gotten one since there is no marker to show he was a Vet) and finally it happened and I got his marker and this Saturday my brother, sister and myself will go out to his grave like we do each year and I finally I will be surprising them with the marker. They have no idea I have been working on it for so long or that is has already been set at the foot of his grave. Gonna be a great day. I am expecting lots of tears, mostly from me. Above all my daddy is finally going to be noticed for all his hard work and even more important he is now acknowledged for being a Vet. He would be so very happy and proud. I feel pretty good.

I will be at home watching the 600 on Sunday evening. I have a BBQ on Monday...who has BBQ on Monday afternoon the last day of a long weekend....haha! Apparently my cousin does and I will be there.

Have a great weekend and good luck to all you favorites.
  • yep i'll be watching all 1100 miles.
  • Watch the sporting events.
  • I'm going golfing with some friends at a couple of golf courses this weekend so sadly no race watching for me :(

    Go Stewart!
  • to watch racing
  • Watching the Coca-Cola 600 and drinking Coca-Cola

    GO 24!!!!
  • Friday I plan on hanging around the Greater Charlotte area, and doing the Speed Street thing. JR Motorsports has an autograph session with drivers to be determined and knowing who's driving for JRM this year who knows who'll show up. Speed Street itself has Shrub(ok I'm skipping that one), Brad K. Mark Martin, Harvick and Bowyer signing stuff that day. Although I'm thinking of going to the Bass Pro Shops in Concord for Martin Truex Jr. Sunday, I might get up for Monaco, but in the afternoon I've gotta work, which means watching it in the dining room again.
raganbaby, my wife's thinking about doing it but we'd have to dig up a wheelchair to do it since she's at 8 mos and a step away from going on bedrest due to her blood pressure, but if I go myself I still can have some fun.
  • To record both races, go back to work after a six month hiatus and root for Helio and Kurt. Thank's for the kind word's Superdave from me, Karl, Jarhead, Braxton, Armysapper, and if I missed anyone thank you as well.
  • Rum n Cokes and alotta racin!
  • my plans for the INDY 500 this wknd, is to go to it and have fun. GO MARCO!
  • I am hanging out with my bestie, because I couldnt get her anything for her real birthday, so I am giving up my Coca-Cola 600 race for her, so I am hoping everyone on Y!A tries to keep me updated :)
  • Probably going to get drunk and watch some playoff hockey. I don't watch Nascar. Feels like watching traffic only it's not okay to masturbate to it.compack flash

Can Bernie safe the future of F1?

    May be...

  • Can't believe I just asked that!!!
But does Bernie have enough influence over the FIA and FOTA to mastermind a resolution between the two?
A resolution which keeps the money rolling in his direction of course!
  • oops - I think you have irritable vowel syndrome...you mean saVe, but bypassing my anal retention ( on this one occasion at least)
I do think bernie has an ace or two up his sleeve. he is , after all, a business man, & will act in the best interests of his business interests ( oops too many interests)
If he did NOT have influence over FIA & FOTA, he would not have allowed them into being...methinks.
Bernie is like a Crocodillian, able to survive even atomic war & devastation & will therefore already be planning his next move, knowing full well the outcome of the Ferarri case & blaming any negativity on poor "Nazi orgy" Maxbenq 8
  • If a Formula 1 car would...?

    May be...

  • would be built like a plane, would it take off?Wait,I mean just the aerodynamics were different. They wouldn't be diverting the air down to keep the car down on the ground and give the car better handling, rather they would be diverting air up.I'm asking this because the car is going at high speeds and I think that might give it some force to get off the ground.Your opinion?
  • Are referring to the Brawn Car driven by the great Button?
  • As a matter of fact the aerodynamics of F1 is such that the force generated by the wings act downwards. At 200 kmph the total downforce generated by the wings will exceed the car's weight. This means that if you have the aerodynamics reversed, the car will take off at 200 kmph, may be less if you have bigger wings.

Have no illusions, it will not fly because once the wheels leave the ground there is nothing propelling the car, so the forward speed is not maintained and the car will return to the surface.subclass quest
  • Has ICE on the track ever been the reason?

    May be...

  • Some snow was the hold up for a some races but I don't know about ice. Ice is sure dangerous and hard to get rid of. But there isn't anything like fire and heat to melt it away so the cars can run as scheduled.
  • I know sometimes he can be difficult, but I doubt that he has ever caused anything like that. Besides, if he was on the track I'm sure they would just escort or carry him off, as needed, and start the race as scheduled.
  • Back when Richmond came right after Daytona it was snowed out.. 85, 86, 87.. I don't remember exactly..
  • I don't believe it was ice but in 2006 i think there were snow storms at Bristol all weekend and the cup race was delayed for snow.
  • There had been beverages and coolers(Ice included) that were thrown on the track at Talladega that I do believe brought a rescheduling of on track driver festivities due to the debris and safety of personnel.
  • Bristol I believe two years ago was snowed out in the Nationwide race in spring.
  • Yes it snowed at Bristol Motor Speedway. Once they cleared the track, Kurt Busch won and on his victory lap he got out of his car and pretended to make snow angels.
  • LOL ... I'm sure it's nothing a jet dryer wouldn't take care of.
  • yeah... and here it is.. lmfao.. j/k

    http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2007/writers/lars_...

everyone is right.. Kyle Busch won like everyone said and he did snow angels..

  • Is Jeremy Mayfield finished in NASCAR?

    May be...

  • Who knows why Nascar has chosen to keep it quiet... Your right, Ice the steroids were made public, and pronto too. Turned out to be totally different than we first thought too. When we hear "Steroids" we automatically think bad thoughts. That's why I feel like Nascar wouldn't be a dummy in something as big as this. Nascar maybe has a Good reason for keeping mum about this whole issue. Could be a CMA issue too?? I do know from experience that over the counter sinus meds can be bad... I was totally miserable once took 2 sudafed instead of the 1 (recommended dosage) and passed out. I've since read plenty of articles of people doing the same, some even ended up hospitalized. Who knows how this mess is gonna all end up. Anyways yeah I think he's pretty much history as a driver. As for the Tim R driver, different time/date. Our whole world is totally different now.
  • i think that sometimes mistakes are made and over the counter drugs that are taken by some can make the test throw a false positive. i think that there should be some sort of appeals system in place like the legal system of the US so that the driver can prove their innocence..or at least have the driver have a nascar lawyer that can try to appeal the case once to nascar. i think that would be real fair instead of just assuming the test was a positive..though it could have been a false positive........i understand where Nascar is coming from but if the competition is supposed to be fair..all the cars the same..then why not the drug policy for an appeal or investigation/appeal....be fair? i think nascar will find that they've made a big mistake by not having an appeals process as they did with Tim Richmond and that the grey area should probably be investigated and understood instead of being so darn grey.....why cant things just be fair?
  • ....at the time NASCAR was looking for a way to get rid of Tim Richmond in a diplomatic fasion.Well we know the rest.
With Jeremy I think there is something deeper than what we as the casual fans know.NASCAR does not want to release to the general public.
  • Okay lets review the facts Jeremy really sucks at driving and he takes drugs. I'd say his NASCAR career is over time to move on.
  • I hope not. There is no list of specific substances that are tested for. NASCAR was very vague. This article from NASCAR.com has the latest updates: Mayfield still trying to understand his suspension
Says NASCAR won't give any information about failed test

CONCORD, N.C. -- Jeremy Mayfield made an appearance at the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Race Saturday night, vowing that he is "alive, well and healthy" and adding that he still is struggling to understand why NASCAR has suspended him indefinitely for allegedly violating its substance abuse policy.

Mayfield was suspended indefinitely as both owner and driver by NASCAR following what NASCAR said was a positive test for "a drug of concern" prior to last Saturday's Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Mayfield was the owner and driver of the No. 41 Toyota that was driven to a 22nd-place finish in Saturday's Sprint Showdown by J.J. Yeley, who replaced him as driver. For the time being, his wife, Shana, is listed as owner of the #41 car.
"All I can say is you can see I'm alive, well and healthy. I'm fine," Mayfield told a small group of reporters. "I'm here to watch my car run. I appreciate what y'all [in the media] have done because y'all are asking the right questions to the right sources and getting the same results. ... They've indicated something different every day of the week. That's what I've heard. I've heard the same stories y'all have heard. I really don't want to say a whole lot to stir anything up."

Yet Mayfield's very presence at the track stirred up NASCAR officials, who questioned why he had attended the event while under suspension in the first place and also strongly refuted his assertions that he has not been informed of why specifically he has been suspended.

"All NASCAR members who violate the policy, including Jeremy, are notified of the substance that caused the failure," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said. "Jeremy was verbally informed of the substance on three occasions last week by NASCAR's medical review officer. NASCAR stands by the reputable physicians and the nationally renowned lab that handles our substance abuse program."

As for Mayfield's decision to attend Saturday's Showdown, Poston said Mayfield misunderstood that he was not permitted to do so while under suspension.

"No suspended driver or crew member is permitted in any area of the track where NASCAR business or responsibilities are conducted," Poston said. "This includes, but is not limited to, the garage, spotters stand, pit road, driver/owner lot, and hospitality areas.

"There seems to have been a misunderstanding on Jeremy's part. NASCAR officials spoke with him and he understands the rules of suspension and agreed to comply."

Nonetheless, Mayfield indicated earlier that he is exasperated by what he said was the lack of information he has received about his positive test results.

"If any of you guys were in my shoes, wouldn't you want to know your results of what happened? I've got nothing from them. I got reinstatement papers, that's it. I'd like to see results and I don't have them," Mayfield said.

Mayfield insisted -- again -- that he took a prescription drug and that his allergies flared up so badly during the recent Richmond race weekend that he mixed over-the-counter medicine with it. He said the over-the-counter medicine consisted of two Claritin D pills.

"That's the honest-to-God truth," Mayfield said.

Mayfield had earlier made that same assertion that a combination of prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicine had triggered his positive test and it was roundly rejected as implausible by NASCAR.

Mayfield added that he respects NASCAR for what they are trying to accomplish with their new, tougher drug policy. But in this case, he said he doesn't feel like he has been able to fairly explain his position -- and thus he feels as if he is being unfairly labeled as some kind of drug abuser.

"I understand their test policy; I understand what they're trying to do. I just wish that I had a little bit of consideration to explain what my side was," he said.

Mayfield said he would move as quickly as possible to get reinstated as owner and driver. He also strongly denied that he has taken illegal drugs of any kind.

"Yeah, I'm denying it. Illegal drugs? Yeah, definitely," Mayfield said. "I swear I can't tell you anymore ... all I want to do is race and be treated fairly.

"Here I am, trying to do the best I can. ... I'm labeled now. The damage is done. It's huge. My family, my friends, everybody that knows me knows better. It's a huge deal, and it's been frustrating. I'd like to have been back in the car this week. All I want to do is work with them. I'll work with them any way they want. They can drug test [me] any day they want. I'll go for it."
Mayfield added that he has no intention of attending any kind of drug rehabilitation counseling.
"I'm not going to rehabilitation. Why would I?" he said. "Would you go
  • unfortunately i think mayfield is done in nascar.they (nascar)need to clarify what he tested positive for,he could have taken claritin or even cold medicine,or he could have smoked marijuanna or crack but we will never know.as for tim richmond failing his drug test it was that he said he was using over the counter cold medicine, but he was suffering from aids and he didn't want anyone to know that he was sick.nascar did tim richmond wrong,he was a great driver and a great person.
  • I haven't heard many people who are happy with the way NASCAR is handling the Mayfield drug testing. Doesn't seem to matter if they are Mayfield fans or not, something just isn't right here. We don't seem to have enough information from either side to get a clear vision of this issue.
On the Tim Richmond thing: that was a long time ago and another mindset ago. Yes NASCAR was wrong in it's handling of the Tim Richmond issues. Were it today instead of back then I think we'd see a totally different response from NASCAR.
  • Yes.
There is no list of drugs that are not allowed and their tolerances.
    Jeremy took Clariton D.
There are 2 types of Clariton D. 24 hour and 12 hour. The 12 hours says take 1 tablet every 12 hours or 2 every 24 hours. The 24 hour tablet which is twice the amount of ingredients says 1 tablet every 24 hours.
On the instructions it doesn't say you can not drive. It does say that taking more than the recommended amount can cause drowsiness. Jeremy said he took 2. Don't know if that is 2 of the 24 hour tablets or 2 of the 12 hour tablets. Either way that is an easy mistake to make when taking over the counter drugs. If I had allergies and knew I had to race to be competitive I might be willing to pop an extra pill thinking it would help keep those allergies away while I am trying to drive and be competitive. If I had taken 2 pills before and knew the effects on my body then I would have seen no problem popping an extra pill trying to knock out the allergy.

    http://www.claritin.com/pdf/readthebox/c...

The problem is is there is no list and the amount of allowances that the drivers can go by to know the tolerances. NASCAR’s substance abuse policy administrator, Dr. David Black, was asked about the Claritin D issue. Black said Claritin D is among the substances tested for, but he would not confirm whether that was the drug Mayfield used. Here is his response:

.... “I will say we have a threshold from something like Claritin D, so it’s a drug of concern,” Black said. “It could be that if an individual used Claritin D to excess that would be reason for action.”
.... Black said Claritin D can cause everything from a high heart rate to anxiety to a drastic change in body temperature.
.... “That would not be good for anybody driving,” he said.

NASCAR is full of gray areas. This drug abuse policy is a big gray area. It allows NASCAR to do what they want. The tolerances are way too low. A good lawyer could bust NASCAR's butt for what they forced Jeremy to do. The man had to quit driving, sign his company over to his wife, and hire an outside driver to take his spot. They labeled him as a drug addict and want him to enter rehab. If Jeremy can prove his case with a hair follicle test then he needs to. This drug abuse policy needs to be adjusted before it gets out of hand.

A hair follicle test is 10 times more accurate than a urine test.

Adding to what was said below. I don't understand why they are keeping Jeremy Mayfield's results private when they posted Ron Hornaday's case of steroid use all over the web.
  • I believe that nascar will retest Mayfield at a later time in the sesaon and if he's clean he they'll let him back in a car, at least is what they have done in the past. However, if Mayfield continues to irritate nascar who knows. nascar has been vague with their drug policy so that they don't have a grey area. One things for sure Jeremy Mayfield needs nascar more than nascar needs him.
  • I do not believe that NASCAR was targeting Jeremy the way they were Tim Richmond but I do feel that Mr. Mayfield's career as a driver in NASCAR is done. If he had more talent and was more marketable it might be worth it to him to go through the treatment process needed to start reestablishment. Without sponsors or owners clamoring over him I don't think he will subject himself to that ordeal.
    Jonah's FINE N 09!!!!
  • Mayfield thrives on drama. Hima nd his wife are the drama queens of nascar. He tested positive for something and was banned...Period..Done! He is just making himself look more like a loser by running his mouth as usual. He had also stated he took drug tests at other places and refused to release the results..Why?? Because they were positive again??? I say be done with him and move on. He wasn't that great to begin with.
  • After reading all the responses and articles, I may not sleep tonight! Thanks, ICE, for showing the hair test info for drugs. That is more accurate than a urine test. But, putting this aside ---

First, I feel badly for Tim Richmond. That was about the time I was coming on board with NASCAR so I don't know anything about that. It sounds terribly unfair and hurtful. Now,

Why won't NASCAR and Jeremy Mayfield hold a joint press conference? Why won't NASCAR provide a list of banned substances? What is the big "secret"?

(And, to answer my own questions - the only thing I can think of is a pending lawsuit that hasn't come to light yet?)

No one should have to put their life on hold for this rubbish. And, that's what is has gotten down to. This isn't fair to Jeremy nor the other drivers.

ADD: I was so worked up I forgot to answer the question. I do not think his career is over pending the "accurate" reporting of the drug test. And, it had better be truthful.....
  • It is a very good chance because he is saying he is not going to go to rehab and that is part of the conditions.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Jeremy isn't finished yet, but I smell lawyers getting involved. If he just sucked it up, did rehab for whatever unknown substance Nascar says he's using, and got cleared from Nascar, he'd be in again. I think this may just be something he can't quite recover from. Wonder what he did to tick Nascar off so bad.
  • He's probably done for now, but if he can prove NASCAR otherwise in court, he might have a serious case.
  • yes
    He sucked anyways
  • yes because he sucks
  • I'm beginning to think that he's getting the Tim Richmond treatment:

"In 1990, The New York Times reported that Dr. Forest Tennant, who was at that time the National Football League's drug adviser, "falsified drug tests"[20] that ultimately helped shorten Tim Richmond's NASCAR career.[20] Washington television station WJLA-TV, in early 1990, reported that sealed court documents and interviews showed Tennant and NASCAR used "allegedly false drug-test results in 1988 to bar Richmond from racing".[20] Reporter Roberta Baskin stated that NASCAR had targeted Richmond, requesting that Tennant establish a substance-abuse policy with Richmond in mind.[20] "A series of drug tests and falsely reported positive results shortly before the 1988 Daytona 500 kept Richmond from driving in what was to have been his last big race. . .", the report said.[20] While neither Tennant nor NASCAR supplied an official response at the time, NASCAR did confirm that they were seeking to replace Tennant."

NASCAR did Richmond wrong, IMHO, and has never apologized to his family and fans.

  • I am/was/will be forever a Dale fan, BUT he was a dirty driver, even when he didn't need to be. It's hard to compare Dale to other legends like David Pearson, Bobby Allison, and Richard Petty. Dale has done things in a car that noone else could do and get away with. How many times have we seen some other driver try an Earnhardt maneuver and wind up wrecking himself? A bunch of times. Dale's an easy top 5 pick for best stock car driver ever, but Richard Petty's record makes Earnhardt look like a rookie. Petty won the Daytona 500 7 times. It took Dale 20 years just to win it once.
  • Yes most certainly was! Wish he were still here! RIP
  • Not the best ever, and Im a HUGE fan of Big E.
He is unquestionably in the top five of anybodies list, if they are truly honest with themselves.
He was the best of his era. I would put David Pearson as the best. Then a toss up for second, between Petty and Earnhardt.
It is too hard to compare drivers of different eras, by any standard means.
Petty has the most wins, also the most starts. He raced in an era of 40-50 races a year, with factory sponsors and maybe 3-4 cars with a strong chance to win.
Pearson had the same advantages, won a higher percentage of starts, and beat Petty 38-29 in the races that they finished 1-2.

Senior only won a few times in then-Busch and 76 times in cup. Overall, Shrub will have more championships, but only 2, maybe 3 in Cup. • What do you think of Joey Logano (#20)?

    May be...

  • Couldn't agree with you more! He's gonna be a Super Driver!
  • he is young but still doing good he will get better
  • I like Joey. He's a good guy and I think he has a bright future ahead. He has too much pressure on him though. People expect him to win races already but he's just now getting used to the C.O.T and his team and crew chief. I think he will contend for a win this year but it's going to take time.
  • Good driver, not everyone gets to drive the best equipment for the best owner in NASCAR, let us not forget, he has one of the best crew chiefs also, he needs to win real soon!!!!
  • Yep, he started off a little slow in the beginning of the season, but he is improving as each race passes. Plus he seems hungry when he's out there on the track, which is always a good thing for rookies.
  • I like him. He's a rookie and rookies need new fans so in addition to being a Smoke fan I'm a fan of Logano, Smoke's old team, so it kind of works out!
  • he's a pretty scrawny dude, he needs to eat some more Italian food and hit the gym
  • Joey Logano has turned out to be such a delight. He's a darn good driver and seems to be proving himself out on the track. For an 18 year old, he handles himself very well. I agree with you. I see a very exciting career ahead for him. Kudos to Joey Logano!

  • Rookie with a lot of potential. He is learning by driving in the Nationwide and Cup series. Having Joe Gibbs' equipment will help his career because they have some of the best equipment.
  • I really like him and am glad to see he's starting to do well. They put a lot of pressure on him, and the testing ban hurt. Now, though, you can see what all the hype was about.
  • he is ok but he is no dale earnhart jr who just so happens to be the best driver in the hole wide world
  • he seems to be doing good, and always is polite and has good interviews after the races, seems pretty mature to be 18, I'm sure he will have a good finish to the season.
  • give him some time he will do just fine.
  • He has a lot of potential. After he has a few seasons under his belt, everyone had better watch out. Or who knows maybe sooner.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Promising.
  • I'm impressed, he's only 18 years old and I see a very exciting career ahead for him.
  • He is doing better with each race. He is now finishing races. He got the shaft when Joe Gibbs racing wanted to bring him up, but then NASCAR said no testing. That would have been a major help for the kid.

All in all, I there is a good chance, with in a yr from now, he will get his first win. late this season or early next season.
  • Great future talent. He got really screwed when NASCAR said no testing.

He has got a good future.
  • I like him...I voted for him for the All Star race. I think he is one of NASCARS shining star rookies. He will be a champ someday.ppctechs discount code
  • What was your favorite part of All-Star week?

    May be...

  • The last segment of the All-Star race.
  • The All-Star Race!!!!
    (Even though Jeff wrecked out)

    GO 24!!!!
  • when matt kenseth blocked "block head" kyle busch on the restart.
  • 10 lap shootout. Every thing else I forced myself to watch.
  • Tony stewart winning the all star race!
  • My favorite part of the weekend was pretty simple - watching Smoke win his first race as an owner and also seeing him win his first All-Star Race. It made my night. I was happier to see Stewart win last night than I would have been if Jr had won. You could just see how much that win meant to him....
  • 1. McMurray getting into the All-Star race and finishing 9th
    2. The 10 lap shootout
    3. Tony Stewart getting his first win as an owner
  • The last 10 laps of the Allstar race, and Smoke getting that win, that was just awesome. Great weekend Smoke and the #14 team. and I do have to give a shout out to Hornaday Jr for winning the truck race also. Chevy had a great weekend.
Edit: I know this has nothing to do with Nascar in a way but, The #43 will be in the Indy 500, RIchard Petty is gonna be able to see John Andretti drive the #43 in the Indy 500, I was cheering for John to make the field and he did, Wow Richard Petty at the Indy 500. Congrats John Andretti & #43.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • the truck race was my highlite, but the burnout competiton was good........glad to see KHR win in both of those events

    KH in the burnout
    hornaday in the trucks
  • stewart winning
  • The Mets going for a four game sweep tonight against the Giants. Just have a hard time listening to "bottom feeder" and "checkers or wreckers" all night. Just an honest opinion but DW make's it nearly impossible to enjoy a Nascar race.
  • I missed pretty much all of the festivities due to having my son and I wouldn't trade that for the world. Got to see the Rangers beat Angels with my boy & dad. I did get to see Smoke cross the finish line and seeing the happiness in my wife eye's after him winning was my favorite part. Congrats Smoke fans! There is one stoked east Texan in this household. So it was a great weekend for me. ; ) Plus Kurt coming in 3rd was a plus also.
  • And did you have a blast watching all the festivities?
  • The All-Star Race with Tony Stewart winning, yes I did
  • dale earnhart jr
  • I missed a lot of the festivities...was bizzy....so I guess the All Star prerace driver intro was fun. I was online with a friend who watched his first NASCAR race..;online...and loved it so that was pretty much a great thing. He is from Montreal and doesn';t get a lot of the racing stations.
Joey getting the fan vote which wasn't much of surprise and Kyle making the race so exciting, and also Tony winning.
  • The truck race. That's about it.
  • last 10 laps I was on the edge of my seat.
  • tony stewart getting his first win :)
  • my fav part was the last segment of the all star challenge. seriously u got $1 million dollars on the line
  • 10 lap shootout at the end was great
  • I think I would have loved the burnout competition the best, but I missed it. So Tony winning it was my favorite part.
  • Pit crew challenge and for the most part yes.
