On what lap will be "the big one"?

May be...

  • the last lap
  • Who knows... When it comes right down to it the two most likely scenarios are towards the start of the race, or towards the end.

At the start of the race nobody knows how their car is going to handle by itself. Even if you know how its going to react, what is it going to do in traffic, and what kind of moves will be going on during the beginning of the race? No matter what they say, this race track has a rhythm just like any other... you have to get that established before everyone gets into their comfort zone...

At the end everyone is trying to fight over the same piece of real estate! The track can only hold about 4 wide, but if you go 4 wide in the turns you are asking for trouble. 4 wide at the nice smooth Talladega is ok, but here at Daytona, its too slick, and too bumpy...

I am going to say its on lap 5, or with 5 to go! HA! But who knows... Something could fall off of any car on the track cut down a tire and result in taking out 3/4 of the field! So who knows... but the odds are keeping the big one out of the middle.
  • Lap 140. Towards to end of the race. They will start getting antsy and making their moves.
  • Lap 95
  • It will happen in the last 25.
  • Im going to say lap 153 :)
  • lap 88
  • 151!

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • Either super early or super late, probably less than 32 laps to go, cause its plate racing and they seem to realize, man I need to make a move its getting late. I just hope its not on the last dang lap. BUt if Dale Jr can get the win hey go wild and crazy on that last lap coming to the checkers.. WHOOOO HOOOO (as Steffy would say) Hope she is having a great vacation out on the lake with a cocktail in her hand. Cause Dale Jr is gonna Shine tonight under the lights!!!!!!!

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I don't know what lap but I just hope that everyone gets out of it without getting hurt. As hot as the track is there will probably be several big ones before the night over ! Happy 4th Everybody !

  • 128
  • Oh that's easy..simply take the number laps (160) divided by the length of the track (2.5) plus the number of starters (43) minus the average number of cautions (6) read backwards.

The Biggin' will happen on lap 101 coming out of turn 2 due to a tire going down.gma nbcnews com
  • Why do the daytona prototype cars and gt cars run at the same time? and whats the difference? im new to this.?

    May be...

  • there are two championships being run in 1 race...like 2 races in 1... the prototype cars have bigger and faster engines... bigger tyres and brakes than the GT cars...

so dont get confused... there are reallly two races going on at the same time... actually makes for a more exciting race ( for the drivers and the audience ) because a lot is going on...

Good luck and happy viewing !
  • Can't tell you definitively, but during broadcasts, you'll hear the talent talking about the excitement of having different classes running at the same time. More overtaking - and sometimes at breakneck speeds. Very exciting. Also, on a crowded circuit, it can become part of a strategy to get through traffic while tying up the car behind you in traffic, so he can't catch and overtake you.

The P-1 and P-2 (which I think P-2 is going away next year) are the "prototype cars." GT-1 and GT-2 are the Gran Touring 'Sedans.' If you'd like to know more, I have something here, especially for you. Check it out:

Everything you always wanted to know about sports cars but were afraid to ask.

In Europe and the rest of the world, this venue is known as the LeMans Series. In the States, the comparably spec'd cars race in the American LeMans Series. The two venues team up at LeMans every summer and often in Daytona in January.

Difference? After you see the above link you'll know. But just to expand ever so slightly, the Prototypes gooo l i k e h e l l..... while the GTs really gooo...

  • Is big Tony on the move?

    May be...

  • I hadn't heard, but if you say so.
  • just up the stairs
    and down again
and now he needs to rest
  • as long as he doesn't call me to borrow my pick-up.

I know once that happens, I'll be suckered into carrying a couch down 3 flights of stairs in an apartment complex.
  • Yep...on the move to the front more often and winning the championship.

I loved the Banana Splits!! Fleegle was the best!!
  • Ya, he's on his way to Cyprus.
  • who is big tony?
  • Looks like he's on the Escalator Down and out.
  • Big Tony laid his bike over, moving very slow.

  • If you're referring to the "big Tony" that lives down the street from me, yes, he's moving next week.
He decided to get a place closer to work and is going to share an apartment with "little Steven".crazy free online play taxi
  • Who agrees that moto gp is better than formula one, what are your thoughts on this?

    May be...

  • Sorry mate. MotoGP just isn't my cup of tea. F1 and WRC for me!
  • WRC is better than both
  • Moto Gp is way better !
  • its televised traffic on both counts, why do they call it a sport ? put petrol in and it goes fast thats about it !
  • I like them both equally, but F1 gets MUCH better media coverage.carneval champagne group
  • Fantasy drivers for daytona?

    May be...

  • neither
  • Man...
Thats a tuff one?? Junior has the push 24/48. But harvick knows his crew chief.
  • They both need a strong performance to get out of their current slumps, but Dale Jr. I think has the most on the line, and therefore will be trying harder tomorrow. Plus, he is running Hendrick equipment which is the best out there right now.

    #88 all the way!
  • Well RCR was in victory lane last night and he did win 500 afew years back and he is due- i love Junior and he runs well at Daytona ne needs a win but Kevin is due.
  • Both would be a good choice but just on career stats at Daytona, Dale Jr would be a better pick. Jr has 2 wins, 6 top 5's and 11 top 10's at Daytona with an average finish of 14.3. Harvick has 1 win, 4 top 5's and 6 top 10's with an average finish of 15.1 at Daytona.
  • kevin "happy" harvick
  • Definitely Junior.

If the race is a washout will they postpone it for July 4th or 5th?

    May be...

  • Daytona at this time of year has some very quirky weather from three in the afternoon, until midnight.. Showers pop up, and travel across the area, and sometimes just rain hard for five minutes, getting the track wet enough to require an hours worth of drying, and just enough time for another shower to come along..
That's one of the reasons "The Firecracker" was originally held at ten AM..
The race will be held on Sunday..
The last time that happened Jr swept the week end, winning the Nationwide race on the Monday after winning the 400..
  • If they wash out the Nationwide race, they will postpone it till tomorrow morning.

    2007.
  • Yes but I honestly don't think it will rain. In the south there is always a chance of evening showers. The race is going to be at night and usually the evening showers begin to dissipate around dark. That should put the race ending near 12 which would be about the time for a fireworks display.

  • If it is raining, what they'll do is wait it out. If it is a washout, then it will be on the fifth.

I think back to the 2005 Pepsi 400.

Does anyone know what happened to Bill Weber?

    May be...

  • I'm not too upset about Ralph taking over. The guy isn't bad IMO.
  • Some reports say that Weber got into a loud confrontation in his hotel lobby regarding complaints about his hotel room. Nobody really knows much since everyone involved in the situation is keeping quiet.
  • he opened his mouth and spouted off to someone
i will only have to listen to Ralph for one race i will be at teh other one
  • Apparently he was suspended by TNT after having a loud, public confrontation at his hotel in New Hampshire.
  • Getting into a verbal confrontation seems a little lame for a reason to be fired. There must be more to the story. As far as reporters/announcers go, he doesn't annoy me nearly as much as most of the former drivers.
  • He's not my favorite broadcaster, but he is better than Ralph Sheheen. Ralph belongs on pit road, not in the booth. Now we have to listen to him for 2 more races. So does anyone know what happened to Bill.

  • KB and Dale Jr. That doesn't mean all their fans are whiners. It just means that whiners are overrepresented in their respective fan base.
  • Kyle Busch. Many of his fans can't stop whining about Junior and Junior Nation. They come up with more excuses than Junior's fans.

Why do formula 1 cars have such a high redline?

    May be...

  • Formula 1 cars redline up to 19,000RPM? How? i'd like some links that explain that. Thanks
  • they don`t need a big engine, they make an engine that revs high and as plenty of strengh you can`t compare to ordinary cars. its advanced technology, they are more like rockets.
  • Your wish isn't my command, but with what I've listed you ought to be able to fill your brain with everything you wanted to know about Formula One cars and engines, but were afraid to ask.

The third link is really cool.

    Welcome to Y/A. Enjoy.
  • OK, an engine produces power through combustion.
You put some fuel into the cylinder and set it on fire so it goes boom.
Now you want more power, a bigger explosion that is.
It's very easy to put more fuel into the cylinder, you can add as much of the volatile stuff as you want.
Trouble is that alone ain't gonna give you more power.
In order to burn it needs air.
So you have to get more air in.
And that's where the problems start, you're already putting into the cylinder as much air as it can take, the valves open, air goes in, they close, boom.
How are you going to make more power?
Well, make the cylinder bigger, increase the displacement.
Nope, not allowed by the rules.
How about you turbocharge the engine and force more air into the cylinder so the pressure rises above that of the environment?
    Nope, not allowed either.
So what you're left with is, rev the damned thing!
Let's say in every second you get into the cylinder all the air it can take, add the fuel and ignite.
The only choice left for getting more power here is to do this as quickly as possible.
Do it twice as fast and you'll get twice the power.
So, formula one engines being normally aspirated engines have to rev as high as possible to achieve greater power.
They are small displacement engines meaning they cannot produce a lot of work, remember, they can only get some much air in, hence they produce little torque, no more than my neighbor's Audi turbo.
But by reving very high they can produce this work in less time getting more power.
Rulemakers have halted this quest for higher revs and more power though by limiting the revs of the engines to 19000.
They had already gone past 20000 when this happened.
So now they're left with trying to increase power by narrowing the power band.
They optimise the engine (friction, ignition timing, ports etc) so that it works best in a small power band at high rpm thus getting a litle bit of extra power.
To compensate for the narrow power band they have a 7 speed close ratio gearbox that keeps the engine always up there.
Not much else left to do really now that they are not allowed to rev any higher.palm txt
  • Is kasey Kahne leaving the rpm?

    May be...

  • It's possible that he could opt out of his contract and go to Stewart Haas, but with the win at Sonoma, I don't think it's going to happen.
Glad you made a good choice, fellow Kahne fan.
    Do you like Reutimann too?
  • He has always been my favorite driver, since i was 6.
I want to know if it is true or not, not your opinion.
It's good that he finally won the sonoma 2009.
    What is true?
  • Excellent taste in drivers! I was so glad to see him win, because he's always so humble. A lot of people are saying that he is leaving, but he has already said quite a few times that he will honour his contract. That means he will stay there at least through next year. He has also said he loves where he is and likes everyone around him. The only reason he said he would consider leaving is if he is not given the cars he needs to be competitive. When they showed him in-car at Richmond, you could see how frustrated he had become. (When he was throwing the water bottle around.) You will notice that since about that time when he made the statements, there has been signifcant improvement to his cars. Richard Petty was also saying that after the win at Sonoma, he realised he must do everything he can to give Kasey the best cars available. If they can give him consistently competitive cars, I don't see him leaving after 2010 either. But he personally has stated that he will run there next year, so he isn't leaving.
  • Kasey Kahne is signed through 2010. There is no way to be absolutely sure with the way teams have been letting drivers out of contracts, but it is safe to say that Kasey will only leave RPM before 2010 if it is by his choice.
  • yaa its a good thing he won in sonoma...its boosts his confidence and it will carry momentum and if he gets n the chase som how it will giv him 10 exta pointshonda error codes

Would it make it difficult for a female driver to drive during "that time of the month"?

    May be...

  • you know what I mean. The other version of Depends
  • If anything it would make the female drivers angry and race more aggressively than the guys. Wait, does that mean that Kyle Busch is a female!?!
  • Nope, shouldn't make a difference. Female soldiers deal with it out in the field. And they have guns!
As others have said, birth control nowadays all but eliminates that pesky monthly visit from Mother Nature. Although, I wouldn't want to be the driver who gave her a bump draft in the corner at Daytona. PMS is an ugly thing. :-)
  • No, I drive all the time during my "that time of the month"
I go on road trips that last longer than the average NASCAR race.

  • No! How great would that be?? Full of energy and any little thing could tick her off and get that adrenalin pumping and the testosterone boiling.. (and yes women do have testosterone...look it up) ....She would at that time be an AWESOME driver....her eyes only on that finish line and if any driver knows whats good for him he will get the hell out of the way!!! Whooo Hoooooooo!!!!

AND Don't you DARE bump her from behind baby she will brake check you into next week!!!
  • I'll put it this way, When your wife and or Girlfriend is having that , would you want her behind the wheel of a Race car like that with the Attitude she has at that time?

    I thought Not. LMAO
  • No difficulty at all.

There are women F-22 fighter Pilots ready to fly missions 24/7 no matter what time of the month it is.
  • No. Of course not.
  • If the driver was like my wife yeah. She drives differently during that week. She is more caring and drives slower and safer. That would be a problem for a race car driver. I would love to see more women in Nascar, I think women driver are very sexy. Just my opinion.
  • Why should it be? Why do you think it would be?
  • Why should it? I don't know any that stay home all day "at that time of the month".
We have and have had several good female drivers.
I would like to see more.
  • No. You can take birth control pills now so that you don't even have to have "that time of the month" unless you want to. It's not even an issue anymore.

Besides, you meet women in the workforce every day--nurses, truck drivers, traveling sales reps, pilots, athletes--who do their jobs just fine during that time of month. I'm sure a driver could handle it for a 3 hour race.

    Jeez.
  • probably
  • no because she would just have another excuse for being a *****15 inch tire sizes

  • @ glazed REDEYE: The site is called Yahoo! Answers. I believe that when someone asks a quiz question, it is traditional to reply with an "answer". No?

So here are some "answers" (or "guesses" to be more accurate). Maybe we could have a Yahoo! Guesses site? Sorry, I digress...

    1. Did he and everyone behind him break down / spin off on the last lap but then got going again only afer the first 3 had crossed the finish line thus making the time gap so big??? Bit far-fetched, I know!

    2. I think he also competed in the Indy500? Did he miss an F1 race for this?

    3. Is it something to do with Las Vegas neck???
  • 1. Jack Brabham clinched his first world championship at the 1959 US GP. He crossed the line in 4th place, nearly 5 minutes behind his teammate. How was it possible for him to finish so far behind without having been lapped on a circuit where the lap time was around 3 minutes?

    2. Jim Clark won 6 of the first 7 races in 1965 and wrapped up the world title at the NГјrburgring on the 1st of August. What caused him to miss the one race he didn't win during that streak?

    3. The two Las Vegas GPs would be among the more forgettable races in F1 history, but for one thing they have in common...what?

  • 1. Brabham: I remember reading about him starting with less fuel than what the team suggested. He ran out of gas at the last lap and he had to push the car uphill to finish fourth and clinch the title.

    2. Already discussed

    3. Aside from the anti clockwise circuit, both races were the last round of the 81 and 82 championships, and in both cases the titles were decided there (81 among Piquet, Reutemann and Laffite, and 82 between Watson and Rosberg)

  • Is there any good setups or a file that I could change to make it easier to get airborne in NASCAR Racing 2003?

    May be...

  • I've never seen a set-up just for getting airborne. However, in one review the writer said that it is fairly easy to get airborne if you're playing in the most realistic mode with all the assists turned off.

I'd recommend playing with all the assists turned off and at a superspeedway. Try getting hit at the end of a straight away and if you can catch some grass, that might help too.

    Good luck!
  • To get air I just wait at the end of pit road of Daytona wait for a group of 4 cars or more and hit the gas, one of them will hit me sending me in the air doing barrel rolls, or flying towards the fence.

    I do it during practice.
  • I've seen some sick videos of guys getting big air when their car gets turned around. Do they use setups or to they edit game files so the car goes faster. I've tried getting backwards and the best spot for me is coming off the banking in the tri oval of talladega. If their are any good setup files please tell me where to go or post a link. If I have to edit a game file please tell me which one and how. Thanks a lot!

Do you think it would be cool if they made a trophy that looks like a toilet?

    May be...

  • You are a genius!
  • No, I don't think that would be funny at all. It would be in the same bad taste as the mere thought of such a joke. I'm not a Kyle Busch fan, but I still wouldn't think that such a thing is humorous, except to those with a s****y sense of humor. (pun intended)
  • No! what would be funny is YOU give it to Kyle "as a joke" and watch him beat the f*ck outta you.
"now that there is funny, I don't care who you are"- Larry the cable guy
  • I was going to make a smart remark but you beat me to it! lol
  • Not at all. And it wouldn't be funny if they gave a toilet trophy to any of the other 42 drivers, even if it's a start and park guy. That would be rude and disrespectful of everyone involved in the race.
  • yes and then he could use it on ice
  • no not really lol
  • He'd bust it too!
  • YES FOR RAIN SHORTENED RACES.
  • Everyone needs a sense of humor here. Be careful not to show everyone here your true colors. It seems a bit of a shade brown.
  • Definitely. All of the trophies should look like toilets. The winner could urinate in it in victory lane. Then people would finally know how and why drivers hold it in during the race. They're just waiting to win that trophy. : )
  • he'd probably take a dump in it thinking he was being cool.

or better yet, give him a rubber guitar so when he slams it on the ground it'll bounce back up and pop him in the face.
  • ...and give it to Kyle Busch when he wins his next cup race, for a joke?
  • Yes, so Kyle Busch can brake it like he did it to the guitar
  • I don't get the connection. What did he do piss his pants or something???

Yes it would be hysterical. I guess thats what you want to hear.
  • depends on what you got the trophy for lol
  • Not a bad idea! I think I would give him a styrofoam guitar every time he loses...to take out his frustration on!

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • No. Just because he disrespects the trophies given to him (The Guitar at Nashville) doesn't mean others should sink to his level.
  • I don't even want to imagine what he'd do with that one.
  • That would be funny ! Or make a unbreakable guitar !

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • Yes, I think it would be hilarious.
  • I don't think it would be cool at all. That is unless they put a picture of you inside, then it would be the bomb!
  • he could pee in it
  • No.
  • No that would be stupidsevertson screens

    May be...

  • it was kyle bush
  • it was dale jr and I know he wuz sorry.
  • drivers name is dave dion........http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/driver?ser...
    paramedic mike stalley
    and emt ken elloit

mike stalley is the one that got run over

watch the video at 2:04 it says their names

the race is actually feb 11 1990
  • Anyone recall that race? I just saw the clip...again. This time the paramedic was talking about his survival. He was pretty messed up.
It did not say what year it was...or what race...but it was NASCAR and the paramedic was talking with someone who just spun out or something and the #29 loses control and hits that car and the paramedic. The car backs over the paramedic while he was laying on the ground. The driver...upset over what just happened got out of the car...saw the man laying there and then just collapsed himself. I was just wondering if this rang a bell for anyone and who it was in the #29???? Sorry so long.

Can u beilive that joey logano won?

    May be...

  • Heck yeah everyone was planning on rain. They put them self in the right place for the conditions. GOOD JOB JOEY.
  • I think we need to give credit where credit is due, and say that Zippy won the race today. I'm not trying to take anything away from Joey's driving ability, but the only reason he won is because of the strategy that came off the pit box.
  • I know and he is the youngest winner ever at 19 years 35 days. That beats Kyle Busch by over a year! I like Joey Logano because he is so impressive.... I mean a win at 19? starting the Daytona at 18? And he grew up in Connecticut and i grew up in maine. Congrats to Joey and I wish him much luck in Nascar.
  • personally, i like him a lot and he seems pretty humble to me (unlike that 'lowski dude). i think he has a lot of talent and will do extremely well in the future. however, i think it was obvious he wouldn't have won today had it not rained. it's not a good indicator of his talent just like winning at talladega was a crapshoot for the #9 car. however, i think he is going to win more than his share of races based on driving skills alone and not determined by weather or fuel milege. it was good to see him win today. he has a great smile and attitude.
  • I think it's great he won.

They took a risk that the rain would come before the gas ran out and it worked.

    Fantastic!
  • logano should be ashamed to get a win like that especially if it will be remembered as his first Report Abuse
  • I am pretty happy Joey won...
  • No, but I loooooooooooove that he did!!!
  • no he was over rated from the start and a win in the rain is not deserved in my mind but a first win is always cool and you shure posted that fast!!!
  • Happy to see him win at his home track . It is always nice to see someone different in the Victory Circle and this is the start of many.
  • I am glad he did. With Jeff seemingly getting close to retirement I have been following Joey. Stilla Jeff fan, but will be rooting for Joey also.

    GO 24!!!!
  • i am sooooo happy
  • Yes, I can believe it. It happened.
The weather played in their favor.
  • Yes
  • I knew it was a matter of time before he got a win. I am actually not upset about this. Logano is a talented kid and he will do well in the Cup Series.
  • Yep. And I am glad he got this win at his hometrack. Whooo hooo!!!
  • Yeah it's in the books, he won. As well as other drivers that have won during the same situation...
  • I am so hapy too, he totally deserved it. He so did not have a car to contend for the win but he had a deserving two time champion crew behind him and it just shows that its not always the driver that puts the car in victory lane. I'm so happy for him and Zippy!!!
  • honestly.........no

rain or shine...............glad he did though
  • I am with you on the Happy part! Way to go Joey..Good call on Zippy's part! He is now the youngest to win,it was Kyle Busch but know it is sliced Bread!
  • Yes, yes I can!
  • IT WAS JEFF GORDON'S RACE Report Abuse
  • No. He did win the race fair and square but today does nothing to prove or disprove how talented or untalented he is. It was a lucky win and in the big scheme of things, it is meaningless as to the kind of career he is capable of having.katanaslip
  • In Nascar, why do they cover the cars when it starts to rain?

    May be...

  • The paint jobs and numbers put on with are chalk and they don't want the chalk to wash off so they can tell the cars apart.
  • Lol. Ok I know the electronics are important too. But a big part is the driver really probable does not want the inside all wet ether. I mean do you all like a wet seat when you are driving your car.
  • To try to prevent any moisture entering the electronics. These cars do not have water proof electrical.
  • The moisture causes electrical shorts. The cars are not designed to run in the rain. They still have a tendency to get condensation in them when they cover them up while they are hot and it's cool outside because of the rain.
  • Most importantly so water doesn't get into electronics as well as the air intakes.
  • so the cars doun't get wet, duh
  • So the cars won't get wet.
  • To keep them dry.
  • Water will get under the hood if they don't.
  • race cars aren't built like the cars we drive on public roads. Race cars are high tech pieces of equipment that can be damaged by water getting into electrical components. Certain things aren't supposed to get wetnail-treatments

  • One problem is a GP at Le Mans would only be 21 laps under current F1 rules. Another is safety issues; the pole car averaged about 150 mph this year.

But the main problem is that Bernie promises the high roller sponsors that the cars will pass in front of them at least 50-60 times per race.
  • France wants to rejoin the Grand Prix circus, why not use the Le Mans circuit? A 35 lap race around the entire Le Mans circuit would be fantastic, with all the inclines and mega long straights. Is there some sort of rule as to why it can't be held there? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? (Again)
  • I guess for the spectators, they would get a little less for their money because they get to cheer for their team or driver only 35 times rather than 68 or whatever.
TV cameras - would it be too much of a hassle for them to put in extra cameras? I wouldn't think so.
Medical cars may need to have several "stations" so that it doesn't take longer to get to the crash site.
It would suck for the drivers when their cars break down or run out of fuel....that long lonely walk of shame with their helmet on back to the garage will be even longer!
  • With the trend towards ever-shorter circuits I suspect the Le Mans track is far too long for modern F1.

I think the logic about shorter tracks is about making the cars pass each point on the track a certain number of times per race, but I'd much prefer a return to longer tracks with a bit more variety about them.

There wouldn't be a problem about actually using the track, they already close all the roads four times a year, a fifth time wouldn't be a problem, especially if it was coordinated with a French bank holiday every year (the problem being that French bank holidays move around with the exact date, they aren't all on Mondays like they are in England). We could have a Friday or Saturday GP for the first time in nearly 30 years, I suppose...
  • the le mans circuit is too long and so it would take 3-4 mins to do a lap this would result in the qualifying being too expensive and the tyre use would be Immense.
  • IMHO France, like Britain, should never be OFF the calendar!
Alas, the thought of an F1 car zooming about Le Mans would be akin to the disastrous use of the Brickyard. As that is unique to US racing series, Le Mans is Le Mans!
If Bernie had any sense he should move it from the dire Magny Yawn to the sublime Dijon, which he owns. (someone correct me on this if that is not the case.)
  • On television the Le Mans race would be a spectacle to watch, however it's not particularly viable to carry on, more cameras, more grandstands, and people wouldnt get value for money. They won't go on the Le Mans Bugatti circuit either, they tried in 1969, and it was the most boring race ever. Seriously it was crap! Looks like Paris in 2011...
  • I've always thought that too... but then much like the old Nordschleife, it's far too long for the fat cat sponsors that Bernie has to wine and dine at each race

Us race fans would love it I'm sure, and the logistics wouldn't be too different from the 24 Heures
  • Le Mans would make for a great F1 venue and it would be a great gesture by the FIA-FOM to choose a track based on fan interest and good race potential rather than simply for commercial reasons.
Why not have an event like The Festival Of Speed at Le Mans during an F1 weekend, its certainly big enough and it would keep everyone busy for the 3 days, it could be a full on celebration of F1 and its history. Around 250000 fans were at Le Mans this year,it would be great to see numbers like that at an F1 race.
Each year we seem to lose a race or two that the fans love for commercial reasons. Time we got something back I think.
Throw us a bone Bernie! (hmm another doggy reference)air miles programme

  • Is it better for a NASCAR driver to be out in front and have the clean air or be behind another car for draft?

    May be...

  • It all depends on the handling of the car. Some would be better in clean air, and getting the nose pushed down for more down force. Others would be better with their noses in the ahead cars rear, just riding around in the what I would say "eye of the storm", nice and calm clear. It also depends on driver preference some like to hang back and let others break the wind, while some wanna lead and take charge of the car.
  • At Daytona or Talledega draft is better. At any other track clean ar is best.
  • Out in front makes the car faster, but more speed = more gas. So running in traffic is better on the tank, but not the speed and handling.
  • The draft effect, because the car isn't working as hard punching a hole in the air as the lead car, therefore less fuel is needed to power the car, even though the lead car has clean air. It also helps with downforce, because the air coming off the rear of the lead car is coming down onto the nose of the 2nd car, pushing it down into the track. Depending on how well the 2nd car is handling, this could make the handling better or worse, but the 2nd place car will be faster and I think more fuel efficient.
  • With the COT, being in the front with clean air is alot better than drafting dirty air with a car thats half as sucky as yours on nay given track
  • On the superspeedways it's better to "draft".
Like how Keselowski did when he took Talladega
    otherwise, "get outta my way"
  • the tracks is most important
  • In the COT it's best to be out front except for at Talladega and Daytona. A car in front at any other track than Talladega and Daytona tends to have a slight advantage and runs off from the pack. If you have a drafting partner that will stick with you at Talladega and Daytona and will settle for a second place finish then it's best to be out front but the way the new car is now all a driver has to do is push a car to lead and at the last minute move to the inside for the pass and win.
  • It depends on the car and track.

Some tracks it is better to be in a group and draft. Like at Daytona or Talladega.

Others it seems to be better to be in the "clean air".
  • I was wondering if a NASCAR driver would get better gas mileage and/or speed if they were out in front or behind another car getting a draft effect?
  • Clean air for the turns, and drafting on the straights..
Edit: Awe c'mone you guys.. When are you going to learn to not take what those guys in the booth say as the whole story.. You need to pay more attention to Brewer (I know he's boring, but he's one of the legends), And Hammond (he's another), and Petree, (Andy knows his S__t.. he won Championships with "Iron Head"), and I never thought I would say this, but even Larry Mac (he must be reading stuff, didn't know he could do that.. I mean read).. The reason guys stick their nose out in a turn, right, or left when they are following someone is for clean air.. They are not always trying to pass.. Then they duck back in behind the guy after the turn, is exactly what I said..
Clean air in turns, and draft in the straights.. At every track..
