  • Sunday when the green flag drops :)

    Have a great day В§trО±О№tС"dgС" в„›eborn
  • When the truck race starts Friday night. Knowing you have 3 races in 3 days and races every Sunday for the next 10 months is awesome. The 500 is ALWAYS a disappointment for me. My driver gets caught up in wreck. Someone I don't like wins and I just simply hate restrictor plate racing. For me, the real story starts to be told at California, the following week.
  • the drop of the green flag at all of the races. It's amazing for the first time of the year after 2 full months without it.

Straitedge have a great day you deserve it and congrats.
  • The party.
Around here it's bigger than the Super Bowl for me and my brothers and friends. Lots of food, that what I like. 5 different kinds of wings and about 50 of each kind, 3, 6 foot subs, a few pizzas, sausage and peppers, meatball, pepperoni, chips. BTW I am 5'9" 185lb for those that were thinking otherwise, you know who you are, now don't you feel a little bad inside? lol
  • When Kyle hoists the trophy...LOL *sigh* Well we will see....

    When the green flag waves....

В§trО±О№tС"dgС" в„›eborn.......a great contributor to this forum...a die hard Martin Truex Jr. fan...and best of all someone who I call friend...his emails are a real blessing to me and I save every one. Love ya Mykey!!! Have a GREAT day!!!!
  • My fav part is the simple fact that it is the start of 9 months of racing to come!!!

В§trО±О№tС"dgС" в„›eborn: You have always been one of my favorites here. Please take this day and do something silly for yourself that you wouldn't usually do...it will make you smile. You have earned our respect, and I honor you!

    *JAKD*
  • I like when the green flag drops for Truck, Nationwide and then Cup. Man the whole weekend is just cool.

Straightedge you cool as heck and always on the right track. Enjoy your day.
  • Green flag!!!

  • The Daytona 500 of course
  • Everything!!!

    Have a good day SD
  • When the green flag drops is my favorite part of the weekend.

I dont know how to type those weird letters but I will say Mikey you have been a great friend to me and I love his loyalty he shows to his favorite drivers. Have a great day Mikey.
  • Watching those 43 crazy men coming down to take the green flag for the first time. I get chills just thinking about it!

It's so easy to honor В§trО±О№tС"dgС" в„›eborn. He's such a nice, interesting and loyal guy. Hope you have a great day, Mikey.
  • When Dale Jr takes the checkered flag (I hope) and its the beginning of a great new Nascar season, and the famous words Boogity Boogity Boogity, Lets go racin boys.. Enjoy your day Straitedge you are a super kid, and you love your team and drivers, have a great day, and I really really hope Truex Jr & Montoya have a great season, and DEI/GAN get over their financial issues and get sponsorship for the rest of the team. Enjoy your day.

  • Who saw Rick Hendrick buying cars at Barrett Jackson last night?

    May be...

  • not last night but the night b4 i believe , he got at least 2
  • Did he buy anything cool, or was he " just looking around" !!!

Maybe something like a 1970 Hemi Cuda Convertable only 14 were ever made, as well as it brought the highest price EVER for a muscle car at the Barrett Jackson, in 2006 sold for 2.16 million dollers!

  • I just watch part of that. Too bad I missed it.

Barrett Jackson, Scottsdale, AZ is a week long (this week) collector car auction. Usually Jr, Tony Stewart, Ray Evernham and a lot more come there and buy up cars or just look.
  • No haven't seen it yet but will be looking for it later on....I understand about the annoying auctioneer but still worth it. I attend auctions all the time...not car...but Antique. I'd love to go to this one's collector car auction.
  • No, I missed it. I normally watch some of it. I went to one of these one time with a couple, Dang you need big wads of money when you go to these things, one thing for sure there are some cooooooool cars and trucks to be auctioned off.

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • Sorry but if I hear that auction on the tv for 5 more minutes, I might explode. It's all my dad's been watching for a month. Lol I heard the name Rick Hendrick but couldn't put up with that annoying auctioneer's speed talking to investigate. Why do they have to speak so fast and annoying?
  • ik he was buying a lot

    May be...

  • Gordon just because he takes all this abuse from everyone...but still wins races (except for last year). he will be my fav for awhile!

  • Will Lewis Hamilton win the championship this year?

    May be...

  • If he scores the most points, yes.

But seriously, whether he wins or not depends on whether McLaren has a faster car or not. If it's equal, then the team comes into play.
  • no he will never win it again, i think next year massa or alonso will win
  • i would say yes because, he's really good and actually won a lot so probably this year he's going to win it again.
  • is the pope catholic.New car will show the prancing horse his fumes.

  • i think the honour will go to Kubica this year...
  • Alonso will win this year.
  • I think it will depend more on the car this year, will McLaren get the new rules to work with the new design the best? I'm not convinced im afraid
  • I think so.
Bernie is up to his sh!t stirring bit, proclaiming he wanted Massa to win whilst at the Ferrari shindig at Madonna di Campiglio. Blimey!! Nail your colours to the post why don't you?!
  • Historically there are not many British multi-world champions. He stands the best chance historically however, so I think so yes.
  • Hope so.
I think it will be tight again though.
  • I'm the worst result predictor in the world but I really think one of the top 3 teams of 08 will slip up under the new rules, which 1 can't say.
I just slightly fancy Kimi over the others for the title but there could be as many as 5/6 genuine drivers in the hunt this year, well I hope anyway!bellagio spa tower photos

Rule change to the Shootout just for Tony Stewart?

    May be...

  • yeah, its pretty stupid if you ask me, just so all popular drivers can race
  • Nascar has always made up the rules as they go. Whats new?
  • This is why Nascar gets accused for playing favorites so they bring it on themselves. Tony didn't make it under their new format, oh no, wait, don't worry, they will just change it. Now the most recent past Champion of each manufacturer is now a wildcard in the race. Tony is in.
  • Oh come on we all know that Nascar changes the rules, why not this one, its nothing new. I would not put this past Nascar at all.I hate this new format anyway, I prefer the old format. I'm sure Nascar will tweek this race several times before it happens. If I had a penny every time Nascar changes the rules for all sorts of reasons, I'd have beach front property in Key West, Fla.

Edit: there is a great article on Thatsracin.com by David Poole of the Charlotte Observer, calling this the Tony Stewart rule (pretty good article worth reading) I can't live without this racing website its great check it out just go to Thatsracin.com

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • I gotta agree with Tom P. on this one Tom. Smoke wasn't the only one to benefit from the rule change. I see where you could think that, but realistically several drivers gained from it. It's a non points race so what's it gonna hurt. Now, if they dropped the past Champions from all the other races and just left it in the Shootout, what difference would it make?
  • why not add more drivers.
  • Yea that is kind of bad but I love your idea ! Nothing against Smoke .
  • somebody call the waaaaaaaaaaaambulance for subby
  • I agree, I'm just glad they can't say that NASCAR is favoring Jimmie Johnson on this one LOL
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • i love the rule, im interested to see how his team dose, plus more cars in the race
  • I wonder what the people who think that NASCAR changes the rules just for Dale Jr. think about this one?

Now that I think about it, this is the second time in the past few months they've changed their minds all of a sudden just for Tony. Anybody remember Talladega?

Greenbean: I'd just like to see what the people who think that think about this is all.

And just to be sure, before anyone tells me to get over the Talladega thing, trust me, I am. Just figured it was interesting enough to throw out there considering.

OFX: Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, and Kyle Busch.

Sounds like the big name drivers still outweigh the nobodies in the Shootout. There's pretty much no reason I can think of for the wildcard rule except for more sponsor exposure. And if that's the case, why not just make it 7 drivers from each manufacturer allowed in instead of adding the Past Champion thing?

And that's not to mention that Sorenson, Reutimann, and McMurray are drivers who, except for McMurray's case, haven't had the equipment to prove themselves to be better drivers than their results show.
  • Oh well, they have past champions provisional in every other race, so why not this one.

Besides, Tony wasn't the only one to be given a spot because of this rule change.
  • Yes, I know what you mean. I don't have a problem with Tony racing, but it definitely looks like this happened just for him. None of the other manufacturers have past champions in the wild card spot, so Tony is the only champion that benefits from this.

The new format for the Shootout was announced a long time ago, and now they just change it again less than a month away from the race. Maybe they did this to sell more tickets. This looks fishy, just like Stewart going into victory lane when Regan Smith crossed the finish line first at Talladega.

Edit: Actually, Bobby Labonte might get the wild card spot for Ford, so Tony might not be the only champ. But Tony is a real popular driver and a top seller for NASCAR, so it might have been changed just for him.
  • Unbelievable. Something else to add to my list of why NASCAR is pi$$ing me off lately. I'm a Stewart fan and think it's a "crock". Well we have had the Dale Jr rule and now the Tony Stewart rule.
  • I know how it looks but you have to say that Tony has more business being there than most of those other drivers.
  • Ah you got to love NASCAR politics Tom....I have been a fan since the late 70's....it's always been that way. They have always played favorites and always will....they like to manipulate outcomes. So in their wisdom they will sell more tickets and will not alienate any fans....well bully for them. They shouldn't have changed the Bud Shootout to start with....idiots!
  • To begin with, this crap with top 6 in each manufacturer was stupid to begin with. The Bud Shoot-Out has always been pole winners and former champions. With this rule change you now have drivers like Robby Gordon, Jamie McMurray, David Stremme, Reed Sorenson, David Reutimann, Micheal Waltrip and no Tony Stewart or Ryan Newman. How much sense does that make?

and as for Talladega, Regan Smith broke the rule by going below the yellow line. Anyone remember who the first person that got penalized by that rule? Yep, Its was Stewart.

Anyone who thinks NASCAR would change nay rule just for Smoke must not watch alot of NASCAR because NASCAR doesnt really like Tony Stewart because he voices his opinion not NASCAR's like alot of big name drivers. The first rule change for the shoot-out came after Stewart annouced he was moving teams so you can make an agruement they did it to keep him out and they make this rule after Bobby LaBonte is out

So who did they really change this rule for? My geuss would be for NASCAR's pocket

On them making this rule for Stewart, Its about like when they decided to make the cutoff for the chase at 12th instead if 10th. That year Jr and Jeff Gordon were both out in 2005so the extended the chase field in 2006 by 2 more spots
  • hey 26 why you gotta drag JR. into this ?
and no its not a surprise
  • PLEASE DON'T MAKE A OLD MAN CRY JIMMIE !!
  • How many times have sponsorship issues screwed everything up.(Bud/Coors)
I hate the way it is now. It should be a package deal. If you sponsor the Pole awards, it means you sponsor the shootout.

Also, even as I watched it live, it was very clear to me that Regan drove below the yellow line.
Also, they changed the Chase from 10-12 after Stewart missed the Chase and proceeded to dominate most of the Chase races that year.
  • Politics suck. I wonder what had to happen behind doors to get this rule change.
  • Well why not change if for little Tony. They expanded the Chase from 10 to 12 drivers the year AFTER Tony missed out. A little FYI, not in '05 when Jr & Gordon didn't make it but the year after Tony missed it.

The way I remember it, after Stewart was the "big star" to miss out in '06, they changed the Chase from 10 to 12 and it was nicknamed "THE TONY STEWART RULE"

No offense to anyone but that is how I remember it going down.
  • Don't know where I've been hiding but this is the first I've heard about it. But it doesn't surprise me, and Hey I like Tony and want him in the shootout. so it doesn't bug me they changed it. They change "their rules" all the time and just keep us shrugging wondering what is up with them.
  • tony stewart sucks
  • When I first read about the rule change, my first thought was actually that it was because enough people complained to NASCAR that a huge name was missing from the Shootout (by complain, I of course mean that someone paid NASCAR a bit of $$$).

I can understand that they didn't do it before now because it would have obviously been favorites. Now, there are two past series champions (Bobby Labonte AND Stewart) that would have been in the Shootout this year had they not moved teams, so it is easier for NASCAR to make the change and not get blamed for playing favorites because it helped teams for each manufacturer.

Although I still don't get why drivers like Joey Logano and Scott Speed, who aren't even approved yet to RACE at Daytona, would be allowed to run with their teams in the Shootout: with only a couple practice sessions before the Shootout to get them prepared. Both have been helped by the recent rule changes of the Shootout and yet don't have approval to race at the track yet in NASCAR.
  • Now that's just a dumb rule. I like it when just the pole winners gets to raced, but now it's cramping its style.ia presenter

    May be...

  • I am having Minestrone soup with some crackers today.

  • Im having chicken soup because its good for the soul and Sprite Zero as a beverage and Dorito's. Not near as health as yours.
  • I haven't even thought of what to take today. I have my Dale Jr. lunchbox all set to go with nothing in it. I had healthy yesterday. I really don't know you know Taco Bell sounds good.
  • LOL, I just have PB&J with Pringles today. It's been a crappy day so far (it was -34 actual temp this morning and I had some truck issues) and I'm not real fired up for lunch.

  • Any info on Nascar 2010?

    May be...

  • Dude the season hasn't even started k. They can't make a game until all the drivers are set and the don't start the development until February. Information for the game always comes out in June, we find out whos on the cover in Mayish, which will be either Kahne, Hamlin, One of the Busch brothers or Johnson again. I'll laugh if its like Newman of Logano or like Kvapil! lol. Dude just calm down and the game comes out first week of August, and the Halo 4 comes out. dont freak out though
  • It'll probably be released in stores sometime this summer ( between June-August). It'll also be on the PS3, Xbox 360, and idk about the PS2 because from what I heard the PS2 has already stopped making games.
A very informative website, you can also get much information in website.
  • I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get info on the new Nascar 2010? I am not sure if EA SPORTS has released any info, or when they will release any info on the game. I would like either a game for a PS3 or a computer.xbox 360 letterbox
  • NATION, whos it gonna be, the INTIMIDATOR or the KING. ?

    May be...

  • INTIMITDATOR
  • no one, you will never see a driver with the same level of superior equipment as richard had, special building at chrysler's engineering center just for him. with the way that nascar is today no one would get away with intimidator tactics. also dales top 3 rivals all died, richmond, allison, and kulwicki. anyone who really knows what the true cicumstances were would not make a call. also i can see why junior admits that his followers embarass him with their ridicules statements about him. those folks make a good guy look like a fool.
  • the king
  • Lets start out by saying the 7 time champion, the ultimate , the man in black, the INTIMIDATOR , DALE EARNHARDT.

    MAY HE REST IN PEACE

    VIPER....................
  • That's easy...
    INTIMIDATOR hands down!
  • BIG E
  • Both have 7 Championships, but The King has those 200 wins to Dale Sr's 76 - if you just want to look at numbers. Petty also raced in a much more "loaded" era of NASCAR. My vote goes to The Man In Black, The Intimidator - Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
  • The man in black, period.
  • 1 jeff gordon
2 dale earnhardt "2nd place is the first loser"~earnhardt~
  • Two close to call.....but for me it will always be the King. King always made time for me when I wanted an autograph....even last year when my son finally got to meet him...he made us feel like we were the only two fans he had. Dale Sr. while I got his autograph a few times...wasn't as warm and fuzzy guess I was intimidated or something. Just an opinion as always.
  • OK,,,,details no one knows,,,,

Petty won half of his races against subpar competition,,would pull up to a track with an STP trailer,,while the other guys were borrowing money just to get in the race,,,seen personally by this 49 yr old woman from the woods of NC..

DALE,,, won his ,,(all of them) against the best the world had to offer,,,and never backed down,,,and even in his later yrs,,when aerodynamics took over,,,,didn`t shy away from the young guns.....

    So,,as a 49 yr old,,who`s been there,,done that,,,

    I`ve got to say,,,""""DALE"""
  • dale jr is all of the above mentioned. he is the king and always will bee
  • The King.
  • That is hard to answer because they raced at different times with different equipment. However, I'll say the King.
  • DALE EARNHARDT is the MAN
  • Thats easy for me The Intimidator (R.I.P Dale Sr)

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009

  • What's going to happen to Nascar when cars fly?

    May be...

  • Imagine a Boeing with Dupont decals everywhere right now. That's the answer.
  • It will look something like this, only WAAYYYY cooler.

    http://www.redbullairrace.com/
  • well there wouldn't be any walls to hit. Maybe no going below the strattus cloud...???
  • Theres going to be all kinds of rules about how your car cant lift off in the corners and can't fly over other cars.
  • There will be a lot les bump drafting or bump n pass
  • Instead of soft walls, they will have to have SAFER flooring because I am sure that there will still be some idiots that wreck someone and/or themselves every week lol.
  • Well, the way the automotive industry is.. by the time cars can fly there won't be NASCAR. NASCAR is going down hill fast. Another thing by the time cars can fly (if it happens) us, our kids, grandkids, won't even be here anymore so whats the point of thinking about it?
  • I always said i will quit drinking when pigs fly . So when nascars fly I WILL QUIT DRINKING TOO !!!!! SO THEY BETTER NOT FLY!!!
  • It will be called Nasfly.
  • Nice photo David G. 24 Rules. I'm liking that image.

    Go Jeff in '09!
  • My dad used to always tell me that cars would fly by the year 2000. Now that seems so long ago, he was obviously joking. But, anyway, I don't think they ever will. If they do, it would be like the pod races on star wars episode 1
  • My boy is ready !http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/vi...
  • idk no if that will ever happen

i won my schools geography bee today!!
  • Nascar will adapt. It is the best.
  • cars will not fly
  • Unless you were referring to restrictor plates, cars can't fly.
  • Not sure, since no cars can fly just yet.
  • LOL I just pictured Nascar going around the track in things like the Jetson's drove, that would be funny.
  • it will turn into NAHR

    National Association for Hovercraft Racing
  • I really don't know. I don't imagine I will be around to see it but you never know. Nascar guys are getting smarter. There wont be engineers at the race shop or at the track to comb over the car instead there will be astronauts as crew chiefs.

Congrats Jonathon on your geography bee. You are the man!
  • They'll just fly in circles....

....and the wrecks will be a bit more dramatic....
  • Even if that happens it won't be during our lifetime.
  • F1 Cars will fly first ; )
  • I aint sure we would be hearing the phrase "He gets airborne" anymore.pocket pc russian keyboard
  • Smith to Furniture Row?

    May be...

  • He won at Talladega, he deserves at least a full time ride. I believe this is the end of Regan smith. I thought he showed real promise when he drove the McDonald's car in the Nationwide Series.
  • i think he deserves better

<--------------------- i won my schools geography bee today!!
  • I think he deserves a better ride and to run all of the races . If he keeps getting junk rides it will kill his career.
  • Yes. He will drive for furniture row.please pick me as best answer.
  • Smith definitely deserves better. The boy done good last year. Furniture Row is more like Death Row to a driver's career. I hope he's able to escape....

Given decent equipment, Smith has shown he can drive a car just fine, but that's where the problem is. Furniture Row doesn't have the greatest equipment. I think with them he's stuck in 25th-or-worse, just like Kenny Wallace and Joe Nemechek were relegated to when they drove for Furniture Row Racing.

....trego, you're forgetting about Paul Menard being at Yates this year in the #98.
  • Yes, he does deserves a better ride. He did much better than all of the open-wheelers last year. I really don't think he will have good finishes in his races, although he might run well at Talladega again. Maybe he can find a good ride after 2009. I wish him good luck.

I think I heard something about that (finishing every race he started), but I wasn't so sure. That is very impressive.
  • Regan Smith definitely deserves a better ride, since he almost got a win last season, he should get a full time ride.

That is a cool tidbit to know.

    Thanks.
  • I just read an article on nascar.com

    http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headline...

saying that Regan Smith will drive the 78 Furniture Row car on a part-time basis(12 races) in 2009.

My question is.....do you think Regan deserves a better ride than that and how do you think he will perform during those 12 races(if he qualifies)?

Also, did you know that Regan is the only rookie in NASCAR history to ever finish EVERY race he started(34 in 2008)? WOW,I wasn't aware of that.
  • No disrespect to the #78 team but yeah I agree he deserves a full time ride....I am one who felt he won at Talladega. Would have loved to see him stick around in some form or another at DEI. Hate it's happened to him but hope it leads to better things for him....he's a good kid and needs a break! Just an opinion as always.
  • I think he deserves a better ride too.
  • If the 12 races are all short tracks he might manage the occasional top 20. If they are intermediate, 35th or worse. If they are restrictor plate races, 1st-43rd. If they are road courses, ahead of everyone that crashed.
  • Yes, he deserves a ride that will allow him to be in all the races this year. I wonder if he HAS to stay there if he gets a better option? Who will Yates get for the 38 car or will they just run with Travis and Bobby in the 96 car (it's a Yates satellite team this year)? He was steady, thought not specatacular in his rookie year. I did not know that, thanks.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • I think he deserves a ful time ride, and in the twelve races i (unfourtunatly) don't think he will do that good because its now that good of a team.red fox sewage

  • Gilliland released from Yates?

    May be...

  • Gilliand should've been let go after he pulled that crap with Montoya last year, that and wiping out a good chunk of the field at Watkins Glen being stupid. I would've loved to have seem him get booted about a week ago and Elliot get back in the 38(you know the sponsors would've lined up for it).
  • depends on what is in the contract
  • It looks like there won't be enough room in a three car team for David Gilliland and he will be released. Gilliland is now looking at his contract to see if he can get them to keep him in the car. This leads me to my question. Are the days when drivers can just be released over?
  • I just think that the drivers are getting smarter.
  • If they are under contract, they probably can't be "released". Unless there are specific terms in the contract.
  • I think if you sign a contract, you honor that contract.

Kind of crappy to try to drop a guy this close to the start of season
  • It all depends on his contract. I do not care for him at all, especially after that race, when he and Elliott got tangled up I still say that was Gilliland's fault, not Elliotts. I think these drivers are going to make sure they have the best contracts possible to avoid what happened to Elliott. But Gilliland, I think he should run Nationwide.

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • I think Elliott's lawsuit has changed things for good. Would Gilliland even have considered suing (if that's what "looking at his contract" means) before?
  • I say: GOOD RIDDANCE! If there even are any Gilliland fans out there, I'm sorry if I offend you, but that boy needs to spend some more time in, like, midget carts or something. One single win in the old Busch Series does not make him Cup material. There are several drivers out there without rides right now that deserve a shot in that #38 car more than he does.

As for your actual question: I don't think anything has changed really. I just think that some drivers are more desperate to keep their rides right now, and are willing to go to extremes at times. A contract is a contract, and I'm pretty sure that every NASCAR contract has a performance clause in it somewhere. Gilliland's performance (and attitude) has been just shy of s**ty, so I'm sure there are grounds to end his contract. It's just a matter of how far he's willing to go to stay in the car. I'm pretty sure he would lose a legal battle in this case.
  • Thank God. He should have been thrown out in the streets after that kamikaze move on JPM last year.
  • If a driver has a contract and the car owner backs out then he should have never made the contract. Contracts are for the purpose of insuring that neither party does back out. That is the whole purpose of the contract. Now if team owners make a contract and then are allowed to break that contract then it hurts the chances of these drivers to find employment and sponsorship for the next season. It is January 15 2009 and racing starts in approximately 30 days. Now how is Gilliland going to find a ride? How is he going to find a sponsor? It's not right. Who knows the potential of any driver if they don't have the time and opportunity to negotiate with teams and sponsors.

I think he should sue. An organization really should stick to their word instead of just keeping someone "hanging on" until they make everything okay for them and then get rid of what they don't need. I say sue them really good. If they do that then yes those days will be over.
  • It all depends on sponsors. Menard and Labonte(HoF) have sponsors. and if Yates can only sponsor 1 more car it will probably be Kvapil. Yates wants to field 3 cars plus the 96 of HoF, but without the money Gilliland may end up with a partial ride.
  • Between the pile up he caused at Watkins Glen and that unforgivable move on Montoya he should have been out last year, in my opinion. Some people just can't be happy with what they have and NASCAR, let alone Yates doesn't need them. David will look back on it all and wish he had handled things differently. I am not sure what specifics Elliott's contract laid out, maybe he had something guaranteed in it because he just extended it? David does not carry the clout to demand much, as far as the language of the contract goes. Now when Jr went to HMS there were all kinds of things that he had written into it to afford him more control over his team. I doubt that Gilliland will be able to stay in his ride the way Sadler did plus I don't think the sponsors are all that loyal to him. We will see.

How many races will Mark Martin drive in, for Hendrick Motorsports this year?

    May be...

  • Thirty-six races. Not sure about Nationwide series.

Go Yates / Hall of Fame in 2009.
  • dude where have you been?? all of em
  • Great to see Mark have a full ride after a couple of years with some time off/splitting races. Great ambassador for Nascar.
  • I say 3. He sucks but my Boy Jimmie Johnson and the Hendrick Camp are the best in the business. With good equipment and awesome talent around him I say 3.
  • All 36 and some Nationwide races for Dale Jr.
  • 37
    counting the All-Star Race
  • 36 races in 2009 IM for sure
  • All 36 races in 2009 for HMS.
  • 36
  • I think he's scheduled for the full season.
  • All 36 this year ..
  • 36
  • Depends on whether NASCAR cancels races or not. Are you counting Nationwide?
  • as many as he wants
  • 38, maybe 39 if he doesn't win before the All-star race (even if he doesn't advance by winning the Showdown, I'm sure he'll be voted in), out of the 40 races (no shootout for him)

[36 point races + the Duel race (Daytona 500 "qualifier" race)+ the Showdown (for those not in the All-star, which he is no longer qualified for, I believe) and most likely he will make it into the All-star (by winning the Showdown or fan vote). That for HMS. He will do some Nationwide in a JRMotorsports car.]
  • He has a full time ride on 2009 in the #5 HMS Chevy, he hopes to try for that Championship that always slips by him..So he will be in all 36 races at 50 yrs old..

  • All of them.

  • Mark's running the full season, with an option to do it again next year, too.
  • All the Cup races and a few for Junior in the Nationwide series.
Mark's wanting a championship awful bad...so this will be his last shot. Hopefully he can make something of it. Just an opinion as always.
  • All of them.
  • He is going to drive in all 36 of them in the #5 Kellogs/Car Quest Chevy.

  • My aunt drove a Sony edition Ford Focus, and it made her Chevy Spectrum look good. Not that I have anything against Sony electronics... their Walkman products are ace. But I don't want to see them in the automobile field.
  • Not especially. I'm sure it'd be much like their other products, overpriced and have a questionable lifespan.
  • If Sony made a National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing that would be redundant. There already is a sanctioning body with that name and I'm sure anyone attempting to make another one would get sued by Brian France. If you are talking about the cars themselves, I do not believe that Sony produces any at this time.

  • Kyle Busch vs. Jimmie Johnson?

    May be...

  • Jimmie is better than Kyle. Jimmie is more calm. Kyle can drive a loose car but Jimmie is more patient and sticks the car better. Jimmie knows how to make up time in the corners where Kyle drives sideways through the corner. If Kyle has a faster car he can make that work but I think Jimmie can take a slower car and make it as fast as Kyle's car that is faster simply by being precise. I hope that makes sense. Jimmie and Chad keeps their cool at all times. I'll have to hand them that. They also sandbag.
  • No, I don't. Of course, Jimmie is the defending three-time champion. I definitely think that Busch will be a champion and have many accomplishments in his career, but Jimmie is much better. I mean, look at both of their rookie seasons:

Johnson in 2002- 5th in Points; 3 Wins
Busch in 2005- 20th in Points; 2 Wins

They both drove for Hendrick when they had those results. And, the #48 was a brand new team when they had their success in 2002. Some could argue that some of the success was because of co-owner Jeff Gordon, but Jeff sure isn't helping Jimmie now when he is winning championships.

Kyle had a great 2008, but I don't think you can say Kyle is better just because of one season. Jimmie still would have beat Kyle under the old format, anyway. Kyle is young and will do great things in his career. But until he does as much as what Jimmie has already done, I don't you can compare Busch to a three-time champion.
  • Jimmie "the man" Johnson!!
  • Jimmie Johnson is more consistent on a regular basis. He is consistent when it matters most. No other driver can put a string together like Jimmie and Chad has the past few seasons. It's remarkable and one for the ages.
HOWEVER, Kyle can win in a dune-buggy, truck, busch car, cup car, modified...hell, anything with wheels on it, Kyle can drive it and win with it. He reminds me of a young Dale Earnhardt Sr. with some of the moves and wins he's made and earned.
He is pompous and arrogant and needs a PR rep. to help him out with some manners. But Racing isn't about being politcally correct, having manners or any of that other jive. He is paid to win races and that he can do. He will only get better, just so long as Nascar's governing body and corporate jackass sponsors don't try to tame this kid.
He is villian number one right now and that's good for everybody. Someone to stir the pot and putting butts in the seats to see what Kyle will do next.
and by the way, I'm an Earnhardt fan- but I love the sport first and give kuddos to whomever deserves it. Johnson for consistency but Kyle for raw talent...that's my verdict.
  • All I have to say is how many times has Jimmie and Chad been caught cheating?Kyle is no cheater and has lots of talent.Go Kyle Go!
  • I have to say that Jimmy has more talent due to his patience, control, and experience. Kyle is young and has no fear. This makes all his risky moves appear to be talent. Until he wrecks the field in the process. They both are talented gentlemen, or they wouldn't be racing with the other 42 guys every week. Ask me again when Kyle gets
5 more years experience and I might have a different answer.
  • If Kyle can win 3 or even 2 cup titles I might consider it but Jimmie right now is the better talent. Kyle has got a bunch of talent and he is still just a kid and has a long career ahead of him. For that matter so does Jimmie. Im sorry Winter Glory and Maggie but I cant say he is better right now.
  • Kyle Busch has not always had great equipment. When was last time the #5 has been a great car? Not since Terry LaBonte before Jeff Gordon came along. When Kyle got into the #18, It hadnt been in victory lane in awhile. in the truck series, who had ever heard of Billy Ballew before Kyle started winning in his truck, and Kyle was only one that could win in it.

As far as Jimmie Johnson, you have to question how many of those wins came legal, Chad Knaus gets caught cheating EVERY year.
Other than the magnets which were put in after the race, Joe Gibbs Racing has never been caught (Except when Tonys rear window was in crooked which even NASCAR said had no performance value)
  • Even Kyle will tell you it's Jimmie.

Give him time, he's still perfecting his skills..
  • Sorry but I disagree, Kyle is far more talented. You can put him in any kind of car and he can win. Did Jimmy even finish the truck race.

Not to mention, Kyle is an all-or-nothing kind of racer. He doesn't play it safe like Jimmie. He plays to win. (Like that crazy guy that use to drive the 20 car)
  • Everyone can say what they want about the 5 team not being very good but it's STILL HMS equipment and resources. The 48 was a start up team and you can't tell me they were giving Jimmie all the best stuff his first couple of years. Granted Chad had a lot to do with setting the cars up and getting them better but Jimmie is the best race manager in the business. How you run the race and pick your spots has to factor into a driver's ability to be successful. Understanding that you have to first finish in order to finish first is a huge part of it as well. Saving your equipment for when it matters, or "sandbagging" as some call it, is exactly what David Pearson used to do. Ask any of the drivers out there if it takes much ability to master the flat tracks of Martinsville, Phoenix and Indy and let me know what you all learn. Jimmie is the most talented driver to come along since Jeff Gordon and Dale Sr., Kyle cannot say that... YET! I feel that he will be considered in that group someday but not until he wins multiple championships.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • Almost equally talented except I give Kyle the edge. Jimmie is literally a hoot to watch when he tries to race at road courses, plate tracks and places like Bristol but Kyle is lousy at flat tracks like Fontana. Jimmie wins at the hand of his chief. I distinctly remember when Kyle practically had Jimmie tearing after Chicago. He whooped him. lol Anyways both are very good but Kyle has a bit more all around talent.

Kyle has a good soda pop racing resume as well so those points are mute to me. No one has done what Kyle did last year. It was amazing.
  • I'm with you! Jimmie has more talent. And I'm not saying Kyle doesn't have talent cause there is no denying that, I just think that Jimmie has more. Just my opinion.
  • Im not sure how you even compare the 2 but Johnson is better without a doubt. Busch is an awesome talent behind the wheel as he has proven race after race but Johnson has talent plus the brains to get the job done. I think his third championship speaks for itself. GO 24!
  • Kyle has more talent because he can drive well in any type of car.
  • Jimmie is by far the better driver. I can't believe that you would even dare to compare. Kyle is just a young pup with an over-inflated ego. I know that the thumbs down are coming, but oh well.

    Go Jeff in '09!
  • Depends on the day who would win. No one has more talent then the other. They have different aspects of their talents which are just as good. If they both had good cars, crew, mechanics and crew chiefs and luck; I think if the 2 went head to head it would be a close race.

Best of luck to both in 2009. Nascar season is almost here!
  • Jimmie only ran in ONE truck race so I don't think you can judge him on that.................The proof is in the trophy pile...............until Kyle wins a few championships, I think this is a no brainer.
  • Okay,I am asking this question because I have seen some say that Kyle has more talent than Jimmie and that Jimmie has always been in better equipment. However, the fact is that Kyle has always been in great equipment as well. The guy joins a team that happened to be ahead of the curb for a few months and all of a sudden he has more talent than Johnson?

I am not bashing Kyle BTW-he is a great talent and I respect all opinions on here as always,I just want to see how many actually believe that. So,my question is...

Do you think Busch has more talent than Johnson and why????

I say heck no and here is why:

    Johnson's final standings-
    2002-5th
    2003-2nd
    2004-2nd
    2005-5th
    2006-1st
    2007-1st
    2008-1st

    Kyle Busch's final standings-
    2005-20th
    2006-10th
    2007-5th
    2008-10th

Busch has 12 wins in 4 seasons(2 wins or less in every season until 2008)

Johnson has 40 wins in 7 seasons(at least 3 wins a year every year)

I could go on and on,but won't lol.
  • AS in any other sport, the best man does not always win. I say Kyle has more talent. Like someone else said, the #5 had nothing in the way of equipment when he was driving it, and yet he did well. And, let's face it, no one was doing much with a Toyota until Kyle busch got behind the wheel of one. Johnson is more consistent, probably has a better pit crew and crew chief. The team puts him in the top more times than not. Kyle does it by the seat of his pants! I love watching him tear around the track. And to the one that mentioned Jr? Kyle finished ahead of him. What has Hendrick's done for Jr? A new way to make money - it's all about the marketing
  • Oh I have no problem saying Jimmie is better...they are both talented...yes...but I also think with a few more racing years under his belt Kyle will also shine in the chase as well. They are both very talented right now...just in different ways.
  • I'm pretty sure Johnson has more talent.
    But I prefer Busch.
  • for raw talent i would go with kyle, but as a polished racer johnson wins hands down.
  • Jimmie Johnson is way better than Kyle. Kyle ended up finishing like he should: sucking! HA!

    Go HMS and Dale Jr.!
  • I would have to say Kyle Busch the kid is amazing in a race car, Jimmie is only good because of Hendrick Motorsports, like back in the Busch Series Johnson never even finished in the top 20 and then getting noticed by Hendrick he left everything behind him, and with Kyle he has grown up alot since 2005 and he is just getting started he will be there somedayzire72
  • What kind of season will Juan Pablo Montoya have in 2009?

    May be...

  • Not a good one. only 3 top 5's and 5 top tens is my guess.
  • he just might do better. He started doing better at the end of last season.
  • Well he has been getting better so I am sure that will continue.
  • I think he will bairly make the chace now that he is in a chevy
  • i think he could be in the top 15, juan is learning.
  • I think he is learning and will do better then last.
  • He sucks!
  • make the Chase
    8th place
4 wins (Watkins Glen, Indy, Bristol, Talladega)
  • I think he will probably do better than last season especially now that he is in a chevy
  • I think he will do better, especially if Bobby LaBonte joins EGR, he will have a more experienced driver on his team whereas in the past couple of years he hasnt. So he will be able to learn a lot from them, and he has been learning a lot on his own so he will be smarter all around which will lead him to do better, I think.
  • I believe JPM will improve a lot in 2009 with the Chevy chassis and ECR engines.I definitely see him finishing top 15 in points and a possible threat to make the Chase.
  • I think it will be the same as 2008 .. No better no worse .
  • I think it will be better than last year. He has settled down a lot, and is continuing to improve. I look for him to do well this year.

    *JAKD*
  • Yes, now with ganassi/earnhardt teams merging, I definitely he will pull out a win or two, and yes a Oval track win. I think this yr is going to be a wild season, and Juan Pablo will see victory lane 1 or 2 times.

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • I don't look for him to do any better. Probably about the same. I don't see him making the chase either, but I could be wrong.
  • I can't wait for the season Juan knocks out 3-4 wins.
Not sure if it'll be '09 or not. But I do think he'll get a win, possibly two..
    Should be fun :)
  • I think he will be better than last year. He will be in Chevy's now its only going to get better for him. I think he hovers around the top 15 and misses the chase by a few points but not by much.

    **Not hatin Tbone**
  • the same as last year if not just a little better with a chevy motor
  • I think it will be better than ever. I feel the merger between Ganassi and DEI will benefit both organizations.free bizarre insertion into vagina

What is the funniest thing your favorite driver has said.?

    May be...

  • after the 38 car took out the 17 and the 17 gets back on the track, aims for the 38 a nd all you heard Kenseth say was "the brakes aren't going to hold!" followed by the 17 crashing the 38...priceless!
  • Well, Bobby Labonte doesn't usually say anything funny. One time, though, he got in a wreck and afterward in the garage area the camera crew was on him and he didn't know it. He got mad and kicked his car, it was so funny because he's usually so composed.
  • Jeff Gordon doesn't say a lot of funny things, but I liked this one - "When you pull into victory lane, it makes you feel good that you just ruined their day"
  • Quote,
"It's running like an old man... it will wake up for a little while and then it'll go back to sleep". Of course he was describing the handling of his car.
  • Yeah I guess the Mr. Ed remark was funny as heck....and the thing is...it fits....
  • I'm sure I could come up with something better but...Kenseth was running bad at Martinsville and the leader was only two cars behind. His spotter said, the leader is right behind Robby Gordon. Matt replied, well, that should hold him up for a bit!
  • When Kyle Petty was on doing color commentary for TNT. JMP's car was on fire and the safety guy was just standing there. Petty said something like (in reference to the safety guy) " I know you are on fire Mr Montoya, but can I have your autograph" it was something like that, totally off the cuff.
  • I had to go old school for mine.....

In 1986 Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt were battling for the lead in the Southern 500....Petty was taken out by Earnhardt in the exchange.
Afterwards Petty during an ESPN interview "his mind goes out of gear when he flips the switch to turn the motor on". Another Petty moment occured two years before when Geoff Bodine took Petty out...the next week Petty showed up at the track with a bumper sticker (on his personal vehicle) that read "Do the South a favor....teach a Yankee how to drive" Ah the King.....got to love him!

    Just an opinion as always.
  • I laughed when he wiped fake tears from his eye during driver introduction when he was being boo'd.
No words came out of his mouth, but we all knew what he was saying..
  • He just kept hitting my fist with his face, so said Mr. Allison concerning Mr. Yarborough.
  • He isn't my favorite driver but when Kyle Busch called Carl Edwards Mr. Ed I thought I was going die laughing.
  • My fave was when DW finally won the Daytona 500.
" I won the the Daytona 500 " over and over and s was grabing people and shaking them that was funny.
  • Im not ever going to eat "Kellogs corn flakes" after him and his brother Kyle wrecked in the 2007 all satr race.
  • Tony Stewart describing David Ragan in his rookie year as " A dart without feathers" to which David Ragan replied " Man, that's pretty cool, at least Tony Stewart knows who David Ragan is. Six months ago I was a kid wanting his autograph. Now he knows who I am,"

The whole exchange was pretty funny

my favorite NASCAR quote of all time was from kevin harvick, after he and kurt busch wrecked on pit road during one of the twin 125's at daytona. harvick said, "i guess he didn't see me there, i don't know if his ears blew in front of his face or what."

  • Will Carl Edwards do as well in cup this year as he did last?

    May be...

  • He will probably do as well as he did...as will Jimmie Johnson...but I am hoping neither do as well as they did. LOL
  • yeah I think he will do just fine this year.
  • I was thinking about asking the same question. He probably can, but I actually think he won't. I have a feeling that he will only win three races this year and finish around 5th in points. That may sound surprising, but so was Jeff Gordon not winning in '08 after winning six races in '07. The competition is so tough these days. He can do just as well as last year, but I think some other drivers will be tough to beat, such as Gordon, Kenseth, and Harvick.
  • Oh yeah, I think he will do just as good this year if not better. I think from here on out in his career he is just going to get better.
  • I think he'll do better. I don't think he's the kind of guy who likes finishing second, so he'll be twice as determined to win this year.
  • Yes he will, maybe even better. Cousin Carl is the real deal folks.
  • I will compare it to Jeff Gordon having a child last year..................Need I say more????

    LOL
  • Definetely. Carl's gonna win this time I hope. Either Nationwide or Sprint Cup.
  • Yes, I think he will.
  • more than likely he will make a go at it, he will be in the chase for sure
  • Oh yea. The "Cat in the hat" would have it no other way.
  • with the lack of testing i think carl may do better. carl has displayed that he can drive anything and that he can communicate with his crew chief so he can make the car better.
  • Yes, I think he will. He'll make another run at the championship.wifi 2

  • Nothing looks better than the yellow in the # 19 Stanley ride, I totally dig the Tribal flames! super cool! WAY BETTER FLAMES THAN THE GORDON # 24 DUPONT ride!!!!

    But that's my thoughts!!!

Congrats, Winter, my your day be bright and glorious!!!
  • Well I gonna go back a little bit in time. My favorite yellow paint scheme was the #30 Country Time Lemonade Pontiac that Micheal Waltrip drove back in the early 90's.

I'm not a big Waltrip fan, but I have a buddy of mine that still has a big poster of it hanging in his barn/garage. I always razz him about it, and tell him he ought burn it out of respect for the time it has served. But he refuses based on the fact that it's a garage, and you need to have pictures of race cars hanging up, to give it the proper feel. That and he is to cheap to buy any newer ones.

Congrats Winter Glory. She was the first to add me as a contact. Way back when I wasn't a Kung Fu Master, and was just plain old richard s.
  • Congrats Winter Glory enjoy your day.
