  • Does it seem like JGR is "burning itself out" before the chase?

    May be...

  • come on dude look at the number every 3-4 races we won so richmond looks to bring us 18fans our 9th win. if jgr burnt their selves out so did rouch cause carl has 6 wins 2 less than kyle. just check the numbers and see how we do at richmond and you will understand
  • I'm still figuring #18 will have his problems as all teams do. So far, they have been lucky to avoid the normal problems other teams do during a long season.
If he comes out #1 after the Chase (which is bs), I'll begrudge him and his team that they are for real.
  • They're all just that good.
    However..
Every team "wings it" to a certain degree.
It's part of the strategy, sometimes it works, sometimes it's a disastrous nightmare, you just never know.

They'll do fine in the chase.
  • I was felt that earlier in their they was burning theirselves(Kyle Busch) out. Kyle was winning just about every week and I thought the bad luck bug would eventually bite him but it hasn't. What JGR has done has been quite amazing.
  • They are just that good. Go Hamlin and Logano.
  • Just being careful due to being caught cheating.
  • Yeah...but I don't want the 18 to win anymore.
  • Every team brings everything they can every week but if anyone is burning themselves out, it is the bubble guys. Pressure is what burns people out, not racing hard.
  • No, I don't think they're "burning itself out". But, I have one question. How many of the races that JGR/Busch won did he start from the pole because of qualifying rain out?

    *MOJO*
  • I don't think that they are burning out, but the 99 team is coming on and has been solid all year. If not for the 100 point penalty earlier this year they would be even closer to the 18. Too bad for Hendrick, he got rid of the wrong driver!
  • im not too sure i think its more about the probation 18 has with 99 but im sure as soon as the chase starts we will see more action out of the 18
  • No, JGR is just damn good.
  • I think they just purposely toned it down in case NASCAR throws another dyno test. They know they don't need any power taken from them before the chase.
  • I would like to say Mr. 18 will suck in the Chase but it simply won't happen
  • Last 4 races here are the JGR guys finishes:

    Kyle Busch--> 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 7th

    Denny Hamlin--> 8th, 39th, 3rd, 3rd

    Tony Stewart--> 2nd, 12th, 8th, 22nd

Not bad compared to earlier in the season. I think they are picking it up and getting better.
  • or are they really just that good, and not "winging" it.
  • burning itself out? laying low? worried about attracting attention? forgive me if i was dreaming (i probably did fall asleep during each of the races last week), but i'm pretty sure that was kyle busch in a jgr nationwide car leading 144 of 150 laps at "fontuckit' - and winning for the first time ever that anyone has won from the pole there. he became the second driver to have won in all three series there (mark martin is the other), and he set a new record for laps led while winning for the 18th time this year.

and wasn't that joey "sliced bread" logano getting his eighth top-10 in eleven starts in that other jgr car in his first race ever at "fontuckit?" the boy couldn't even find the restroom when he arrived at the track, but he found sixth place fairly easily. and didn't they both do it in "horsepower-handicapped" cars with a trackside team made up of mid-season replacements for seven of the crew guys, including both crew and car chiefs? and they did it in THE cars that should be most wary about having dyno'ed...

as for the cup race, wasn't that the jgr fedex car finishing third for the second week in a row? and wasn't that kyle right behind carl bringing home his 17th top-10 of the season? as for luck, yes, kyle has had luck fall his way many times this season, but as they often say "sometimes, you have to make your own luck." are they burnt out? considering they are all most likely going to make the chase, and kyle has had weeks to experiment and fall down but hasn't finished outside of the top ten - heck outside of the top two - but once in the past bunch of weeks, i don't think so. at least i seriously doubt it and hope not. are they that good? looks like it to me.
  • Curious about something?

    May be...

  • It depends on their contract with their team and sponsors for their main ride.

I would imagine the top drivers have something in their contract that prevents them from driving for another manufacturer or conflicting sponsor.

The younger guys probably don't. Seat time and development is most important for them. Gibbs knows Davis needs seat time and that is more important than demanding he drive a Toyota. I think Almindinger drove a Ganassi Dodge in Nationwide last year too.
  • In a perfect world, a driver will drive the same make in all series. But, in the rare cases where a driver has the opportunity to drive another make, all it usually takes is permission from his primary team and some of the higher ups of his primary manufacturer. A recent example was Boris Said at Watkins Glen last month. The race was rained out, so his #60 Ford failed to make the race. Kyle Petty came to him to see if he wanted to take over the #45 Dodge for the race. Boris Said had to go get permission from the Ford guys in order for him to drive a Dodge in the race.

So, yes, I am sure JGR and Toyota have given Davis the go ahead, or else he wouldnt be driving for Randy Moss...
  • You don't have to.
  • it's something written into the various contracts that drivers and teams have - with each other, with the manufacturers, and with the sponsors. the boris said example above hits the nail on the head for someone of boris' stature. i don't know that marc davis would have such a restrictive portion of any contract he may have, but if he does, i'm sure joe and jd worked it out with toyota.

now someone like kyle or denny, it would probably take a little more work and incentive for a manufacturer to let them drive another manufacturer's car - they don't even like them driving anything but toyotas off the track, but again, there are provisions that can be made. tony stewart still had connections with chevy - both in ads (armor-all) and for the teams he owns. if i'm correct, kyle must have something similar because his late model team (kb motorsports) runs chevys.

rusty wallace was discussing this earlier with respect to david stremme. he was talking about how stremme will drive dodges for penske in cup, but will continue to drive chevys for him in the nationwide series. being bestest friends, i'm sure rusty and the captain will figure something out. even funnier was a bit i read in yet another tony stewart article, in the latest "men's journal," where tony wanted to go get a fish fillet sandwich at mcdonald's. he had to be careful not to be seen or photographed there because of some portion of his sponsorship/team agreement with subway.
  • When a driver switches teams for races, (ie.Kyle driving for not only JGR, but Braun and Billy Ballew) aren't they supposed to be at least the same manufacturer?
*I know, all of those are Toyota*
I ask because Marc Davis is a JGR driver and is apparently driving in the truck race for Randy Moss. Randy Moss has a Chevy team.
Isn't that some kind of conflict of interest or something?
  • I don't know about racing or anything but I admire you. You're the coolest chick ever!
  • when your contract is up and the team doesnt renew you. you are a free agent just like other sports you can look for other teams and sign with any team and car make money talks
  • hmmm idk really know how to answer that lol

    love the new look winter
  • Viewing preferences now the nascar races are off?

    May be...

  • yes, the weather made this race turn from a night race to a day race, i prefer night race for some reason, but i like to see it on Sunday since it's a great way to fill up my Sunday afternoon. i really don't care for NFL to watch it for a day. anyway the cup race will be on ESPN at 1PM EDT/12 PM CDT on Sunday. and the Nationwide race will be on at 6:30 PM EDT/5:30 PM CDT on ESPN2 later on that same day. and since the weather ruined ABC's night tomorrow, i bet they may have to dig up an 3-hr movie or find a way to air an bonus College Football game and label it as "ESPN on ABS's Saturday Night College Football"
  • NASCAR video games for me, racing at Richmond of course.
  • well right now im watching 'the best and worst of tred barta' lol. he's currently searching for a bear he shot with his bow. as far as espn goes im really not sure, the only time i really watch it is for nascar preraces and races and football pregame shows and games.
  • Ok...I don't even have the TV on. I am listening to a CD of old rock and country mix that I made and have a pot of marmalade going on the stove. I'll be here, making marmalade, and listening to music.

I agree with Lynn. LOL naughty naughty!
  • Porn? Hahahaha! I have Borat on DVR, I love that movie and I'm watching some political stuff.
  • i don't know about you, but i don't know how many more times i can watch all the episodes of "shifting gears." don't get me wrong, i actually found the show to be very interesting and loved it the first time through, but watching it over and over every time there's a rain delay is becoming a bit much.

oh my, now they are showing the nationwide race again from "fontuckit," and although i liked the outcome, it was a dull race. i didn't watch the replay last weekend like i normally do for either race - why show the most boring race of the season again???

what would you like to see on espn2 for the next few hours as a time-filler?

me, i think they should switch to some "back in the day" episodes for variety.
  • I got some videos and am sitting here waiting for hanna to come through. It's going to be a rough weekend here in atlantic city

I think they should fill with some full run old time races (early 80's)
  • I'm watching the re-broadcast of the race from "fontuckit"
I love how this one ends.
  • i would like to see Beyond the Glory:Matt Kenseth
  • My viewing preference has been watching the Red Sox spank the Rangers in baseball. Pretty pathetic.
  • I'm watching Angels and White Sox game and later it will the Dodgers game..and also switching over to the weather channel, so I can see some sights of my favorite Beach, Myrtle Beach, even if it is soggy and on Tropical storm watch I love that place. Sorry no porn for me..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I'm sure that you are well aware that there are other channels besides ESPN. Don't even try to pretend that you're not watching porn. ; )
  • I'm going to watch football, Illinois will kick Eastern Ill. ***!
  • hmmm, i don't really think I've ever heard you whine before, but right now you're just as annoying as any of the whiny nascar brats.
  • I think either one of the movies about Dale Sr. would fit nicely. And I could stand to watch "3" or " Dale" again. Both are pretty good, and I can't believe the make-up job they did on Barry Pepper.
  • Lol I think I will just stay on the computer and answer Y/A.
I too like watching Junior (naturally he is my favorite driver) but enough is enough already,

How would i join the american Le Mans Series?

    May be...

  • Great question and a great topic..but you need to take baby steps. Even people with unlimited funds have to take baby steps. Just look at Tracy Krohn (your b/f would know who he is if he watches ALMS) First rule, RACING IS NOT CHEAP!
First, join the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Work race weekends doing tech or flagging for a year before he does anything just to know how a race weekend works. (I'll get back to working races in a moment) Then after a year or two, get your novice license and go through an SCCA drivers school. You must complete a minimum amount of races in two years before he can progress. Then he can work his way up to getting a regional and National license. This is time consuming and will take a few years. There are no quick ways into the ALMS especially if you want to drive.
At the SCCA runoffs (the National Championships) a driver will get recognized but there are not any ALMS racing scouts like in other series or sports. You just have to get a decent racing record and bring LOTS of sponsorship $$$ to even have a prayer. ( $75,000 a weekend for a low tier GT-2 ride) If he is good, he may get invited back only to have to pay again!
SCCA is a great amature racing club that is nation wide. If he wants to be involved with ALMS, he needs to go to a SCCA workers school so he can work ALMS races. The ALMS uses SCCA workers for safety, a little tech, communications and corner workers. SCCA also has several pro series as well.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Also lost of info at www.americanlemans.com
  • Okay, so here's the deal my boyfriend wants to start racing and we know that he is going to have to go to school and stuff but we live in San Antonio TX and we are clueless on how to start.. Whats a good School for him to go to i mean we are willing to travel for his school.. and not only that but after her finishes " racing school" where do we go from there? how do we get teams to notice him? We just need that little push in the right direction!!! Any info will help thank you guys :)
  • i do not know but i knoww here there is a raceing team near my house team corvet where in gp 1

  • Frank and Sara Christian
    Daytona Beach Road Course
    Sara 18th
    Frank 6th
"first" race ever with a female driver, and there were 3 of them.

Edit: Okay, I was off a little on the bonus question, in my defense it was 2 a.m. when I answered..
  • only one married couple has ever competed in a nascar race, and only once...

    1) who were they?
    2) what race was it?
    3) how did they both finish?
    4) bonus: what other nascar "first" happened in that race?
  • Wow - That is the reason why Winter Glory is a top contributor. Amazing!
  • Frank musta been cheating with magnets or his oil lid fell off or something!!
  • I have a few questions about the 2008 NASCAR Sprint cup Series. Please help if you can.?

Do you think cup should stay out of nw?

    May be...

  • I'm certainly okay with Cup drivers coming down to Nationwide (more so than I am with people writing run-on sentences), but, I see how it becomes frustrating when they're going for championships down there. I'm all for imposing a limit where Cup regulars can only run 1/2 or less of the Nationwide schedule. But, you can't take the Cup guys out altogether. They help challenge the younger Nationwide guys.
  • Actually, I would love to see the NNS without Cup guys in it. But it isn't practical. Like it or not, if it weren't for the Cup guys, attendence would be much lower which could spell disaster for the series. Sponsors would pull out and we'd lose teams. There's also the learning curve to consider. These new guys learn much more at a faster rate as they can follow the Cup guys and learn how the big boys do it. Not to mention the advice and tutelage offered. It also provides a way for us the fans and the car owners to more accurately compare a new guys talent to proven winners. A lot of people say that the sport has become too corporate, even implying that France and Helton make it all about $$$ just so they can get rich. Bull. I would love to see the good old days return to NASCAR but reality dictates that sponsorship is the only way even the richest owners can run a team. I think the Cup guys are good for the series but I agree about them winning the championship. They should not be eligible to win the big prize. I wonder what affect that would have on participation though. But then again, most Cup guys run a limited schedule making them ineligible anyways. Maybe it would work. I think NASCAR should at least consider it.
  • I think that it is ok for cup drivers to be allowed in nationwide but I think they should have a limit to the number of races they run.-----

This makes it more fair for the others in Nationwide (who don't run in cup) to have a chance of being 'up there in the #'s" because the cup guys are only allowed to run X # of races in nationwide.
  • You know I wouldn't mind if they weren't there. But honestly I don't think I would watch it if they weren't.
  • No because when Nationwide drivers win, they know they can beat Cup drivers. I do think that Cup drivers should be able to win the championship but there should be a separate, less prestigious championship for Nationwide drivers.
  • No not at all there are alot of different series of nascar ppl just think things like that cuz they only know about the three top series not knowing some ppl spend all there life racing in nascar and never make it on tv and are perfectly happy about it

like camping world series and whalen, and the list goes on, but those series are for the young guys to get in the sport Craftsman, NW and CUP are all the top dogs cup just being the top top, if you know what i mean
  • I have no problem with Cup guys in the Nationwide Series, it's Cup guys going for the series title that I have a problem with. Aside from Kesolowski giving Bowyer a run for his money this year, Harvick and Edwards made the series a joke the previous 2 years. Besides NASCAR does want some Cup guys running in Nationwide races since it increases attendance.
  • I dont think they should be banned but i think that if youve spent so many years in the nw and then went on to cup...i think that if youve spent so many years in cup you should leave nw and just stik to cup.
  • there was a Q on here last week that asked if some of the older drivers should leave so theres more room for rookies i will keep what i think about that to myself but should full time cup drivers be baned from nation wide after there rookie seson in cup so rookie drivers can move to nationwide?
  • Cup drivers aren't supposed to be in the Nationwide Series, it's just stupid
  • Nascar Nation...............?

    May be...

When NASCAR.com puts a 1 in front of a car's # (like 160 for Boris Said instead of 60), what does that mean?

    May be...

  • Does it mean the car is running the number, but hasn't purchased it? I'm confused.
  • I think the other two have answered it well... however, I'd like to add that you will notice that they only use 2 digits when they actually race!)

My thought was that it was a matter of decision making was needed at the time of the entry & so they put a 1 in front just to be sure it was entered. (Going back to read the submission copied from Jayski's page.)

    Have fun! :)
  • It is very complex.

NASCAR hands out numbers to the teams that want them. NASCAR charges a fee for that number. But NASCAR allows part-time teams to pay a lower fee if they only use it part time. So for example, number 20 is used by 2 teams. Brandon Ash uses it part-time, and his number on the car is 02, but in the owner's points and entry sheets, he has entered as car 102. This weekend, since Brandon Ash has not paid for that number, Joey Logano and Gibbs racing have the number leased to them for the week. So to the viewer, Joey Logano is driving car number 02, but to the race stewards and when reading entry sheets or owner's points standings, it is car number 202. So you can now differentiate between the 2 different cars bearing number 02.

It is very rare for this to happen, but it's a just-in-case measure.
  • It is very complicated but from what I understand, there may be two teams that have the number 60 and the other must use 160 and whichever qualifies gets to use it. If both qualify, one has to switch numbers.
  • The VP got it, its very complicated. But I copied and pasted this from Jayski, good luck on figuring it out.

Why does NASCAR (or NASCAR.com) use three digit numbers for some cars?
Sometimes different cars (Owners) have to share the same last two digits of a number. For instance, at the end of 2002, Rick Goodwin [Team Bristol] indicated that he would be renewing his Sprint Cup #54 because at the time, he had a full sponsorship from Toys "R" Us [which has since gone away]. After the renewal of his license this year, Travis Carter and his sponsorship [National Guard] wanted to use the Sprint Cup #54 as well. Since no two owners can occupy the same number, NASCAR licensed the #154 to Travis Carter with the caveat that should Rick Goodwin enter an event, they would have to find another number for Carter's car to use at that same event.
In an effort for membership and points to correctly assign championship car owner points, NASCAR has to distinguish between Rick Goodwin (#54) and Travis Carter (#154). Therefore, each owner continues to maintain throughout the season the car number they were originally licensed with. The Same goes for Marcis #71 and Lepage #171, if they enter the same race and both make it, Lepage needs to find a different number.(5-26-2003)

Called "one of the most beautiful Grand Prix cars ever built", the Eagle / Gurney - Weslake V12 number '36' is racing through the Ardennes Forest to win the Grand Prix of Belgium in 1967, making this the first, and so far, only victory for an American in an American Grand Prix car in the modern era."
That was a quote, but one of my faves too after the Lotus 49 and Ferrari 156 Sharknose. Nice one Rosbif!!

  • How do you choose which NASCAR driver to like?

    May be...

  • Skill, knowledge, fame, patience, which brews wins and championships..
Also, their personality and their driving style and aggression.
Actually, for me, it was lucky because the first time I watched NASCAR, Jeff Gordon won and so I chose him as my favorite. From that time, I still admire the guy not because he was the first I saw win, but because he fit those traits. He's a great guy and one of NASCAR's Greatest!
  • talent and attitude. i caught a terminal case of "nascar fever" while living in vegas six or so years ago while watching with some knowledgeable friends. they filled me in on the drivers as we watched some races and they had favorite drivers so i picked one - an arrogant punk most people seemed to not like very much as he always seemed to be at the eye of one the storm much of the time, both on and off the track. he was aloof and arrogant, but he showed he had the skills to back it up. and he just happened to be from vegas as well - grew up down the road from where i had many years before. then he mentioned his younger brother and how good he was, and i was hooked. the busch brothers were my team, and when kurt lost some of his attitude and seemingly lost some of his "fire," kyle came along, scooped 'it up and ran with it, he was my driver. and has been ever since.
  • people are just random
well i pick Matt Kenseth cuz i like the way the number 17 looked
    hey i was 9 or 10
Now i Love him For his driving and his looks
  • For me, it depends partly on what kind of car they drive, though when King Richard was driving a Plymouth I rationalized it by saying, "Well, he's so good, he can make a Plymouth go fast." Then I was a Dale Jarrett fan until he started driving for the enemy. Still like him, though. I just pick out drivers for any odd reason: Clint Bowyer because he crossed the finish line on his roof, Juan Pablo Montoya because he also raced in Formula 1, Carl Edwards because he's so dang fast.
  • I like my driver for his driving style, his personality on/off the track and that he is a loyal Chevy driver. Since sponsors change you never know who's going to be next so that is not a good way to choose your man. Also unless they suck like in Kyle Petty's case (sorry Kyle), I was a Dale Earnhardt fan first so I root for his son, who fortunately is a good talented driver with a lot of critics like good drivers should have.
  • I chose my favorite driver this way:
I have always been a HUGE fan of Dale Earnhardt. After his passing in 2001,I quit watching NASCAR for the entire season. After doing that,I missed the sport and realized that I couldn't live without it and had to pick a new favorite driver.I didn't want to jump on the Jr. or the Harvick wagon only because they were associated with Dale,so I decided to pick a favorite rookie in 2002.Jimmie Johnson caught my eye with his driving ability, personality, and quick success(some may remember that he had the pole for his very first Daytona 500..of course,he wrecked and Ward Burton won,but oh well. That happens at Daytona;and he also won California and both Dover races in his rookie season). As it turns out,I picked a good one.2 championships,36 wins(including the 2006 Daytona 500;2006,2008 Brickyard 400's;and 3 Coca-Cola 600's in a row),2 All-Star races, and a Bud Shootout later,I am still rooting for the 48 every time he gets in a race car.Go Jimmie!!!
  • I picked Kevin Harvick cause he was so exciting to watch and he was never afriad to back down. But now he obeys the rules so not to get into trouble so I'm kinda getting bored
  • just keep watching, you'll figure it out
  • Well if you are talking about choosing your favorite driver I think it is different for every person. Some people go with the driver that happened to be winning a lot at the time they were first getting into it. Others who hang around long enough to get to know more about each one before choosing could go by off the track personality and driving style. And then there are those who have to chose another after their favorite driver or retires or something. I think a lot of those fans end up going with a driver who reminds them of their last favorite.

But like I said it's different for everyone and this is JMO. Me personally, I picked Harvick before I even knew anything about him.
  • I saw Ragan in a magazine. I wasn't a fan yet.
Then I started watching him in trucks. He still wasn't my favorite.
The 2007 Daytona 500. That's what got me.
I followed him all year even though it wasn't a great season last year.
But this year makes me proud to be a David Ragan fan.

Plus he is pretty cute. So that's a plus.
    : )
  • I watch how the driver preforms.I like the old style drivers,or those that driver like the drivers from the 60's.So Tony Stewart is my favorite,he races and reacts like the drivers that helped shape and founded this great sport.
    "Go Tony"
  • Well i picked Kasey Kahne because in his rookie year he impressed me with all his consistent finishes and he didn't have a cocky attitude like other newcomers. And he still doesn't
  • Well, you can root for a driver from your state but I went by off-track personality and on-track driving style.
  • I like Matt Kenseth because he's a lot like me. He's quiet and usually in the background, but he gets things done. Plus, I felt like he absolutely got no respect the year he won the championship despite the fact he dominated the points most of the year. I'm kind of a renegade.
  • I'm just curious what makes one driver more appealing than others. It's obviously not like other sports teams where they're associated with a particular city. And it's not that you can just say, I like Home Depot better than Lowes so I'll pick Stewart over Johnson... clue me in.
  • Well I was always partial to the number 2 when I was in high school and that was my number in high school sports and watched a few Nascar races and liked the number 2 car of Rusty Wallace. I like the sponsor Miller Genuine Draft being I consumed a many of them it was a perfect match. He switched to Miller Lite then he retired in 2005 and then Kurt Busch took over the 2 car and I did some soul searching on him and decided to stick with the 2 car. I don't drink anymore so the sponsor doesn't have anything to do with it.
  • When I was younger my mom bought me a Darrell Waltrip t-shirt, so when I was actually old enough to start following a driver I kinda followed him, although it was during the years where he didn't do anything. When he filled in for Steve Park I started following him along with DW. When DW retired I had always like Mikey so I started pulling for him along with Steve Park, and even Earnhardt. Always liked Earnhardt because the way he drove was the way I drove on my racing games. (forgive me i was young like 8) My mom didn't like Earnhardt though so I wasn't allowed to pull for him but I decided to openly pull for him starting in 2001.
We all know what happened then, so I continued pulling for Mikey and Steve Park, didn't hop on the Jr. bandwagon. I somehow ended up with Ward Burton, don't remember.
To make a long answer shorter... When I heard DW was starting a truck team I knew the truck driver I would pull for. Now that David Reutimann is in cup I pull for him, with Mikey, and McDowell, along with a few other drivers.
I hope that answers your question.
  • Just pick one that kind of represents you or like that choose one that has a sponsor you like. Just any way you can think of.
  • I picked Bobby Labonte a long time ago because I liked his Green Interstate Batteries Chevy, but I've stuck with him when he moved to Petty too. Love the Petty's, all of them. They're doing such great things for kids. But I also love Smoke because he's got a mouth and a temper and I think he's great for the sport, and I love Newman because he's such a normal, laid back guy with a nice wife. Having Tony and Newman on the same team is going to be so much fun to follow. Love Schrader because he's REALLY funny. You can't go wrong with that #18 M&Ms if you want to see a winner.
  • First i went for someone local- Does anyone remember Robbie Moroso? Then when Robbie pasted away i went with his best friend at the time and that was Michael Waltrip.
When I learned the sport more I went with Davey Allison and Kyle Petty because they were more my age.
Now i go by driving style and overall how they carry themselves. I have to complete opposites there- Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton.
  • i choose out of a hat.
    [=
  • I agree with Tom G October 5th-12th.
  • What do you think of Michael Schumacher starting a new team in Formula 1 called Bugatti-Schumacher.?

    May be...

  • I think that is very cool that he is doing this and he could build a very succesful team.
  • Michael Schumacher in 2010 will be launching his own Formula 1 team and the possibility that Nick Heldfield and Lewis Hamilton will be the drivers, Michael will be CEO and test driver it will turn out by Volkswagen ВЈ500.00 million pounds as back up.
  • He shouldn't do it. I don't think he will.

He left F1 because it took too much of his time. He's a family man who wants to be with his wife and kids. Managing an F1 team puts lots more demands on him than being just a driver.

All that money and drivers can't guarantee anything. Look at Toyota, Honda, Renault and BMW. All manufacturers with tons and tons of money but hardly any results. Renault went from World Champions for 2 years to nothing in just a few months. That's how fickle F1 is.
  • What I think:

The VW F1 rumour is over 20 years old...they got as far as producing an engine back in the early 90s. They put too much money into the Audi sportscar programme to race F1 at the same time, and they get the exposure they want for their turbodiesel engines through that.

Bugatti don't have the money to put their name to a project like that, and if VW are paying, they'll want it to be called a VW F1 car. Anyway I'd expect any team entering F1 in the next couple of years to take advantage of the customer car rules being relaxed and to buy chassis off one of the big teams.

Schumi might be interested in running a team one day, but not right now.

By 2010 Heidfeld might be desperate enough to jump into a new team with an untried engine, but I doubt Hamilton will be.

Should the truck series and Nationwide series should have their own Chase for the cup or just leave it as is?

    May be...

  • Could you imagine what this forum would be like if we had 3 chases? I shudder to think. I think that one chase is enough, in cup. However, I found myself thinking the same thing a while ago and deciding that it would just be too much to do a Nationwide and a truck race in addition.
  • I think they both should, it prevents guys running away with the championship halfway through the season.
  • Na its good for the ppl who dont like the chase so they dont complain but the chase is cool, it rewards winning which ppl like to watch but i guess ppl like to watch someone who could win one race and win the cup that would be gay
  • I agree with foxfire. Leave it as is. I wish they didn't have it for the Cup either.
  • You'd risk "Cup" drivers running just enough races to make the top 12 in points, then go after the championship in those final 10 races. And I just dont like the chase idea that much.
  • I like the Chase but most fans don't so when they start whining they can just resort to the Nationwide Series
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more Chases. One is too many. Leave their formats as they are.

  • Nascar Nation (Breast Cancer Awareness)...?

    May be...

  • You're on, nice post btw! thanks for letting everyone know about this!
  • Sure, remind us!
  • I haven't heard of any others.

    I'm joining you.
  • Add Bobby Labonte to the list. Below is a link to a die-cast page with the pix of Labonte and Busch cars. I thought Gilliland was gonna drive a pink car as well.

    *MOJO*
  • I just looked at jayski and they didn't have them out for this week's race yet. That would be the place to find out, though. Yes I will, just remind us again as we get closer to it, thanks for the heads up.
    3 STR8 N 08!!!
  • I checked several sites but don't see any other than what you mentioned and what others have already said.

I will display a pink avatar, but please remind me when we get closer.
  • I'll see what I can do Tom. Thank you for the MEMO.
I would like to do something For Autism as well.

Hope to see all of Nascar Nation with this. Great Idea Tom.
  • My mother in law has her last chemo treatment this week for her breast cancer then hopefully it will be in complete remission. I have my kidney surgery at the end of September but am electing not to have chemo. So my family is big cancer supporters.

Good idea, I shall sport something pink as an avatar during that week for my avatar provided surgery goes ok.

Edit: Thanks fox, I will post here before I go into surgery.
  • idk maybe Matty is :P

    Yeah im in
  • Bobby Labonte is running a pink car at Lowe's in October. (It's a little past halfway down the page.*)

I'll try to find an appropriate pink avatar. But let me warn you, I look terrible in pink. lol
  • They will sure be easy to spot out there in those pink cars, won't they? I think what they're doing is great!

I'll start working on a pink avatar for that week.

    Thanks for the heads up!
  • I'm sure there will be a lot more as the time gets closer. Appreciate the heads up! Count me in, I'm a survivor as well. Great idea Tom....Thank you! Have a star. =o`)
  • Are any other cars besides Reed Sorenson's and Kyle Busch's going to be running a pink paint scheme?

I already asked this but I want to really get the word out to those who haven't heard yet. During the week of October 5th - October 12th, I hope you join me in displaying a pink avatar to honor breast cancer awareness month. What do you say? You in?
  • Tony wares pink under roos every week LOL
it would be nice if all the drivers had a pink paint scheme.
  • I havnt heard anything about.
But you can count me in.
  • Bobby LaBonte probably is. He he drove the pink paint scheme last year so I would assume he is racing it again.
  • None that I know of.

And you know I'll be joining you during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Nascar Nation..........?

    May be...

  • I don't think I would like any one track a third date. There are too many tracks that only have one date and some like Rockingham that have been knocked off the schedule altogether.
  • thanks everyone! Im having a nice day. Im glad the hurricane did not turn out to be destructive, thank gosh & i hope everybody hopefully is ok and their houses are still standing and not flooded. In the fl keys here we are watching 2 tropical storms and 1 hurricane and I hope they do not hit us. I am going on a short dive today (first time in 2 weeks) the ocean visibility is not so good but it’s the best its been in a while. I hope you all have a nice day----

I wouldn’t give any 3 to one track. I like variety & to many races at one track makes it boring.

    T
  • Track I would give 3 dates to. I really like the road race they have at Watkins Glenn, I would give that one more date to make it two.
    Three dates, maybe Daytona.

    Empress have a great day.
  • I would not give three dates to any track. Not until some of the others get a 2nd race.

Empress: You are a great contributor and I like reading your answers. Keep up the good work. 3 cheers to you. Hope you have a great day, and stay safe.

    *MOJO*
  • I don't think I'd give a third date to any track.

To the Empress, you're a great addition to the NASCAR forum.
    Enjoy your day!!!!
  • Martinsville
  • Lowe's already does, sort of. If you include the All Star race they already have 3 big races there. There are no tracks that deserve or need 3 points paying races but the excitement that Richmond provides and the racing action there make it one place where I wouldn't mind if it had an extra race. I'd like to see Rockingham get theirs back or Darlington get a 2nd race before I worried about a 3rd one for another track. I honor the EMPRESS. It's nice to have her as a consistent contributor in the NASCAR forum. Thanks for being a loyal fan, have a great day!
    3 STR8 N 08!!!
  • nah...on some tracks two are too many. So I say none.

Empress Theodora I curtsy and bow before you on your special day!!
I love that you are such a loyal fan and ardent contributor!!!

    Enjoy your day!
  • I think 3 dates to any track would be a little too much butter on the bread.....................
  • What track would you give three dates to?

    Today we will honor...

    EMPRESS THEODORA nascar

    Enjoy your day!
  • If I HAD to, I would say Darlington or Bristol. But, I would rather not see three dates there.

EMPRESS THEODORA your questions and answers are as great as your name. Enjoy your day.
  • Darlington Raceway! I'd give it back its Labor Day race and another date somewhere in the schedule.
  • I'd spread them out. Darlington & bring the Rock back for sure. As for the 3rd one, Daytona or Bristol.

Empress Theodora...what a great lady. You info is awesome. You deserve this day! Glad to hear you are alright after the storm. Stay safe!.

    =o~))
  • I wouldn't give any track 3 dates.

Empress Theodora - It is good to have you here. Enjoy your day!
  • Darlington! Not really, no track should have three. I'd settle for Darlington having two races again.

I will curtsy in honor of our empress:
    http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/lun...

Hope you have a wonderful day. Your Q&As are interesting and informative, and I appreciate your input.
  • have a great day EMPRESS THEODORA nascar i would give 3 dates to bristol or daytona they are the 2 best tracks in NASCAR
  • Matty wins here ..oh oops i mean California!!!!

    *rolls*
  • Gateway... heck, I'd be happy with ONE race at Gateway!
  • Daytona (if any)

Empress Theodora nascar I like your q&a's and your a great asset to our nascar section! thanks for being a part of Nascar Nation! Have a great day!!
  • I wouldn't want any to have three. It's not enough variety.

    Congrats Empress!
  • Where do you think the Australian GP should be held?

    May be...

  • How about they build a track at Alice Springs....

    True Australian Outback style...

Would love to see how they handle the logistics and the heat... no body cover... ice for the air intakes... ice vests for the driver (the Australian Cricket Team tried that once a few years back when they toured India)
  • Back to Adelaide, great circuit, great people, great races. The GP should never have been taken away from them in the first place.
  • I really don't mind where it is held so long as they are not forced to turn it into a night race. Bernie spends so much time catering to his corporate buddies in Europe that he seems to forget there are people all around the world who like F1. we just don't have ВЈ1,000's to chuck around willynilly
  • Rosbif got their first. I only get excited with Melbourne as its the first race of the season! I'd watch Hungary and get excited if it had Curain raiaser status!
Adelaide was a classic, but is unlikely to grace F1 again, its far too good a track. You may as well bring back the vicious Mexico track too! hahaha
  • i reckon it should be held somehow at bathurst.
  • It should still be held in Melbourne. The track is excellent and the Atmosphere is great, being Australia's sporting capital. I've tried the track on my PS3 and let me say it's a fun track to drive, not too challenging and very fast, with well spaced-out corners.

So in my opinion Albert Park's an excellent circuit
  • Do you think this would be a good idea?

    May be...

  • Not really.
  • Do you think that F1 would be better in an elimination format?
So theres 22 cars atm right? Each race could be 44 laps, every 2nd lap the driver coming last is eliminated, what do you think of this?
  • Not for Formula 1 as is.

If they ever had something like NASCAR's All-Star race it would be a very cool idea.
  • What got you watching NASCAR???

    May be...

  • I honestly couldn't tell you, I just started watching it and fell in love with it.

Edit: Sorry Disney Fanatic, accidentally thumbs downed you. You get two thumbs up from me.
  • My dad, I use to say watching cars going round and round, there is no fun in that.....Ya right, now I am pretty sure I am a bigger fan then he is :D
  • My dad. When I was really young. I was like 6.
  • You and me both. I played the video game NASCAR 07 for PS2 and said
"I'm gonna watch a real race"

I watched a race and man it was the start of something big
  • My dad. He never missed a race on t.v. when I was growing up. We live not too far from Bristol. He took me to my first race when I was fourteen. Been watching ever since.
  • I got into it by playing the video game NASCAR 98 when i was 10 years old
  • When I met Dale Sr. on I95 South and chatted with him at a rest stop. He said I should watch and I did because I wanted to see just who this guy was. Been hooked ever since.
  • Well I remember as a kid I watched some NASCAR, but thought nothing of it. Years later, I somehow found myself watching the IndyCar Series (perhaps by watching the Indy 500?) and I got hooked on it. After the season was over (they have a shorter season) I watched a NASCAR race and was hooked. Haven't watched IndyCar since...
  • Well I am a huge sports fan but I didn't realize it until last year (if that makes any sense). I was in one of those moods where I wanted to watch a sporting event no matter what it was and it just so happened that there was a race on. So I watched it and I loved it! My favorite driver instantly became Carl Edwards and has stayed that way ever since. : )
  • about 20 years ago I used to drive past this house that had their black lumina parked in the front yard (on Sundays) with decals on it exactly like Dale Earnhardts car. I had to watch and see what would possess someone to do that. I was hooked and I have been, and still am, a Dale Sr. fan and a NASCAR fan
  • I used to build street-racing cars, and race them. Now I just kick back and watch the pros.
  • It was the 1988 Daytona 500. I was 15, I watched it at my boyfriend's house. His family were all NASCAR fans, they got me hooked.
That boyfriend is now my husband..
  • My dad got me into watching it full time in 2002 and I've been a fan ever since. Before that I watched only a few races every now and then.
  • Always kind of pay attention to it, but could never watch the whole race. It wasn't until my wife started watching it about four years ago that I really got into it. Especially great watching it on Hot Pass.
  • Family watched it when I was growing up. I watched since I was 2. I grew up watching Dale Earnhardt. Been a fan for 28 years.
  • I can always remember my dad watching NASCAR and one time I didn't have anything else to do so I watched a race with him! I would just watch one or two with him a year then I finally just watched like almost all of them one year and I really loved it and now I rarely miss a race! So I would have to say my dad got me into NASCAR!
  • a video game it was NASCAR Racing 4
    i was 10 too
    weird
  • I guess friends/family. I was over at a friends house with my brother when I was 12 and everyone was watching the race. I had no choice but to watch it that day. They were racing at the Glen and after about 40 laps of being insanely bored I started to get into it. Ever since then I've been hooked :)
  • I would watch it in the 70's with Richard, Cale , and the gang every time it was on TV. You have to remember at that time we only had 3 channels so racing was not on like it is today.
  • I was 3 years old and my parents got me an AMT model of Cale Yarborough's 1973 Chevrolet Laguna Kar-Kare #11. Became a fan of his from that day...he will always be my favorite driver.

I am also very happy that Cale was the first driver to "take America with him" to win the Daytona 500 in 1983 and repeat the next year again with a camera in his car (only a couple of cars had cameras in them back then and it was one camera not 6 in a car) again.

Cale, Richard, David, Bobby, Donnie, Benny, AJ...the list goes on...they were Racers.

Today there are only a couple I would give that title to. Most are whiners that if the car is not handling perfect you better turn down the radio if you are crew chief.

Which famous corner is shown in this picture?

    May be...

  • Definitely the Karussel, I LOVE NORDSHLEIFE!
  • That would be the Karussel at the old Nordschleife circuit at the Nurburgring...
  • What did you LUV about and HATE about Sundays Nascar race at AutoClub Speedway?

    May be...

  • I luv'd the fact the neither the #18 nor the #99 went to Victory Lane, the fact that neither finished in the Top 5, that some new faces were in the Top 10, but most of all that the #18 didn't win.

I disliked (hate is such a stupid word) that the people who operate that track have turned it into such a nightmare of an event. I've been there 4 times, the last being this race back in 2006. I've read the postings from the few who went (or were going to go) and had to suffer with the drudgery that goes with that place.

I could go on and on but making bad comments about that place just isn't worth. Hopefully there are people from that organization (and I use that word loosely) that read these posts. I see that place going the way of Ontario and other failed venues unless they get their heads out of their rears...SOON!
  • Wow, I am sorry you hated so much. That is the most negative rant I have ever read about a race. Maybe you should not have gone. I enjoyed the race, and liked the fact that it was a nite race, and I didn't have to miss church and/or the race.

    *MOJO*
  • I hated when it started and loved when it ended
  • I never like this race, it belongs in Darlington. It was boring as most of the races are out here in Fontana, nice to see JImmie win, and it was a night race.. It was just boring..Brting on Richmond, now theres excitement.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I hate that NASCAR claims to be traditional...when it feels like it. It still is not Labor Day Weekend without the Southern 500. If they want Darlington to have one race, that is fine. Give it back the Southern 500!!!

I hate that Fontana is almost a copy of Michigan. Michigan is great and 2 races on a track like that is fine per season. (same thing with the 1.5 mile tracks too. More half miles...let them beat and bang for 3 hours!)

What I like about the race? It's over.
  • Yes, I hate it when guys dont wear shirts. Its so gross. Please,if you're listening, put a shirt on for everybody's sake. As far as cops go, they are normally rude. The race wasnt that great. I only hate the track because they dont deserve a second date. They cant sell out and they got Labor Day weekend from Darlington. What a joke. I'm happy Kenseth tip toed out of there with a top! It was nice to see cars passing the 18 for a change. And I'm happy that this week, they'll be racing 4 miles from my apartment here in Richmond.
  • Ok, i hated that it didn't rain cause of all the fat guys with no shirts on DISGUSTING AND IGNORANT. I hated that All the activites were on the west end of the fanzone and seemed like half as many trailers there as last year. I was not at all pleased with the HORRIBLE noise that came from the Raceday speakers that they called music before the show came on at 2pm. That the stands were standing room only cause it made it hard to take food to your seat and eat it. i HATE that they have a no napkin policy at the track then have tons of trash from the drivers tearoffs flying around the racetrack. I REALLY HATED that i didn't know they were letting fans onto the track during the Victory Lane Show cause when i got home and watched it, i could have been down there too but i left. I also HATED MORE THAN ANYTHING, that all the roads were closed and they were forcing everyone onto the freeways, I didn't want to get on the freeway, and even argued about it with a cop after i went around a road closed sign. AAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!! Fontana PD SUX!!!!!!! I loved that the hats were $5, Tony Stewart stuff was on sale, That the sun was out on Labor Day and the Sunset was beautiful, My first time to the pits was pretty exciting, getting pictures that i would have never gotten before, chad knaus signing autographs in the pits, seeing all the cool wheels, the really pretty red metallic wheels for newmans kodak car, something you can't see from the stands. I liked the misters they had places around the fanzone to help cool us down.
  • I luv that Busch did not win
    I hate nothing
  • I hated the race, it was very boring. I hate that they go to that worthless track twice a year. I hate that they took the Labor day date from Darlington and gave it to a track that has never sold out. I luv that after 3 and a half excruciating hours the race finally ended, I luv that they are going to Richmond now, an exciting track. And most of all I luv that they won't be back to that piece of garbage track for 5 ro 6 months. I would luv it more if they'd finally drop that track from the schedule and go to tracks that aren't so boring.
  • Best former nascar driver turned commentator?

    May be...

  • DW
  • My favorite is Wally. I think he has a great sense of humor and he is very smart. He wasn't a very good driver. But they say those who can't do, teach. Those who can't drive, commentate. I like Kyle too. They make a good team together.
  • Benny Parsons (R.I.P.) & D.W.
  • New - it is a toss up between Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty. Both are very good in the booth.

In the past - Benny Parsons may he rest in peace.

Current - Darrell Waltrip......I know he flaps his gums a lot more than others (maybe he gets paid by the word?) but he can make ya forget about any boring parts in a race real fast. Plus who doesn't like Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Let's go racin' boys.

Michael Waltrip does good in the truck's too.
  • I'm not much on remembering qoutes but I loved Benny Parsons, may he rest in peace. Today I would have to say Dale Jarrett. Kyles good too, but for crying out loud send Rusty home, the only time I have heard him worse is when commentating an Indy race,
  • DW. The only announcers in racing that I truly think are absolutely fantastic, though, are the three guys that call the F1 races on Speed. They are funny and they don't talk to you like its the first race you've ever seen.
  • I may be a bit prejudice because Dale Jarrett was my favorite driver for many years. I remember one year at the awards ceremony, when instead of a regular speech, he went into a little story, that just happened to include all of his sponsors! So I have to go with him for my favorite announcer. He always did have that sense of humor that he shows in his comments. I have trouble picking a worst. No one in particular really annoys me ALL of the time.
  • Great Question!

My all time favorite was the late Benny Parsons with Ned Jarrett running a very close 2nd....these two set the standards that the announcers today can only hope to achieve.

I agree with your statement about DJ and Kyle...think they're exactly what broadcasting need nowadays.

My opinion of worst (although he was a great driver) is Rusty Wallace....he literally made my ears bleed last year on ESPN...so pleased when they replaced him with DJ. Rusty just came off (to me) as unpleasant....yes I am holding back in order not to offend his fans.
I just didn't enjoy then or now his commentary.

And of course as always......you guessed it....just my opinion.
  • Definitely Darrell Waltrip, I love his commentary in the booth.
  • I like Dale Jarret the best. He's intelligent and funny and manages to make it the whole race without repeatedly mentioning himself or what he did, unlike DW or Rusty.

My worst has to go to Wally Dallenbach. At least DW and Rusty have something to brag about. They actually won races.

  • Darrel Waltrip. Not only is he high energy, he has his own personality. And the dude cracks me up. The races are way more fun to watch when D.W. is commentating. He's like having another friend around. Did you see the Sprint lady trying to stand behind Jimmie Johnson in victory lane. Jimmie looked liked he had another head growing out of his shoulder. All she does is stand there and nod. I think Rick Hendrick got in her way.
  • best: Darrell Waltrip
    worst: Rusty Wallace
  • ned jarret..... he once won a race by 14 LAPS....
  • Dale Jarret and DW
    worst: Rusty Wallace
  • I really like Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty. If you've ever heard Michael Waltrip commentate a truck race, I think he does really well with that. My all time favorite is Benny Parsons, I loved how when there was an accident, Benny would get real excited and yell " Whoa, we've got Trouble". I'm sorry, but I can't stand Rusty Wallace on any level, he could fall out of the booth and I'd never notice.
  • I'm going to agree with DJ being the best. All of you DW bobbleheads... DW was off his game this year... heck, a couple of the races, he didn't even have a voice! Yes, I like DW, but you have to admit he wasn't his usual self for the 2008 season. If it weren't for Larry Mac, then FOX's coverage would have been in the pooper. Mikey Waltrip... well, he's fun to listen to for the NCTS races... but I'm giving the edge to DJ.

The worst, by far, Rusty Wallace. It's kind of refreshing that most of his commentary lately has been relegated to Nationwide, although sometimes it makes the Nationwide series painful to listen to. I loved Rusty as a driver, but his ESPN yes-man attitude (just praising whichever driver his bosses tell him to), coupled with his arrogance, makes me think he needs to pull out of broadcasting and focus on his team.
  • Worst - rusty wallace, too consumed with his "family tree" of racing and he's BORING.

Luv - kyle, DW, Michael Waltrip, Kenny Wallace, and though I was under the impression that dale jarrett was boring i'll have to take a look at this race to see his funny side, haven't seen the race yet and still think he's pretty boring. What i hate about announcers is when they walk all over another guys punch lines. Kyle petty has some pretty good stuff but if he's not with the right crew they really don't get his humor and seems we are alone at home laughing along with kyle. while they sit there wondering whats funny. I don't recall the races with parsons but i'm sure there are enough old races on that we could still get a chance to watch them over and over. I'm not one to store jokes i hear in my memory but I do enjoy them just the same.
  • The late Benny Parsons
  • This year I think Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty, and Michael Waltirp (truck series) have been doing a real good job in the booth. They all bring their insight and personality to the table. I don't think Rusty Wallace is too bad since he does bring some of the Nascar knowledge to the Nationwide series, but I think he is the weakest link right now of the new ones.

To me the best from previous years are Ned Jarrett, Darrell Waltrip, and the late Benny Parsons all bought their insight and have a fun personality. They give you the feel that they are not only former drivers but also a feel that they are also fans of their respective sport. Though Wally Dallenbach Jr. has some of the insight, I think he is the weakest link in the other parts needed to be a great commentator same with Rusty Wallace.

I would like to give a honorable mention to Kenny Wallce and Jimmy Spencer. I know their main gigs are Nascar RaceDay and Nascar Victory Lane, on Speed Channel, but I think they both bring great insight and personality to a Nascar program anyway.
  • I think that with the loss of Benny Parsons, then it comes down to two guys. Either Kyle Petty or Wally Dallenbach. I really like Wally for his funny stories, like the one about racing in his wife's underwear. And I also like the fact that he tries to buck the rules about not bashing Nascar to hard for questionable calls and practices. He has never seemed too worried about ruffling feathers with his commentary.

But Kyle has had his share of memorable days in the booth. Like last year, when Gordon was on his way to a rain-shortened win at Pocono. Kyle extolled that if Gordon and his team were smart enough to figure out their pit strategy around the weather that well, he was not going to work on Monday. He said there was no reason to try and beat a team that good. But the top story is actually an accident , when he was the in-race reporter last year at Sonoma. Before the Green flag, they rode around on the parade laps. listening to Kyle praying for the team, the sponsor, the other drivers, pretty much anyone he could shake a stick at, on his radio. And then less than a lap later, you could here him cussing like a sailor, when he was taken out by someone else's bad driving.
  • The best: Benny Parsons he was a great driver and had great class up there in the booth, he was able to make me tune out the other two boring guys inthe booth with him.

The worse: thats simple, Rusty Wallace. Thank god for MRN, and the remote control. I do not think he has a clue what real race fans think of him in the booth.. Sorry Rusty, just shut up.

I will toss in a honorable mention: Mikey Waltrip does a great job with the truck races.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I love Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty as commentators. They bring the knowledge and humor.
I also like Wally Dallenbach. That little skit he did where he was skiing on the lake (I think at Daytona?) was hilarious.
I don't dislike DW but sometimes I wish he'd just shut his trap.
  • Darrel Waltrip is the best commentator and I think he was a great driver of his time. I never got to see him race though. I personally liked his Darrel Shuffle it was funny although he can be annoying at times but I still say he's the best.
  • Best, and in his own class: Benny Parsons

Potential to be a great pairing: Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty (get them together!!! They will be great.)

Awful: Darrell Waltrip (too opinionated and will not let stuff go...Kept blaming Stewart for incident @ Darlington that he did not cause...and even thru the all star race he was still bringing up that...watch the tape...Tony stayed outside of the white line on the track...Sadler came up into the lane)

Should have been fired after his first race: Rusty Wallace
  • one of the few things i really enjoyed about last night's race was the commentary coming from the booth - in particular the comments and analysis from dale jarrett. i thought he was not only insightful, but hilarious at times. his quotes about the cheetos wrapper on biffle's grill were classic, especially when he joked about jimmie johnson being so far ahead he had time to eat a bag and throw out the wrapper.

and i'm pretty sure i'm not alone in my opinion that kyle petty also makes a heck of a commentator when he calls races for tnt. his commentary this year, especially while juan pablo's car was on fire at pocono, included some classic moments as well. i particularly liked when he said that kyle busch is the maytag repairman of nascar this year - the loneliest guy on the track - because he was out front so often and so much that he never got to see anyone else.

and then there's the others - darrell waltrip, rusty wallace, and randy lajoie. and let us not forget gentleman ned jarrett earlier in the year.

which brings me to my question - who do you think has been the best former driver turned commentator this year? who has been the worst? or if you prefer, who has been the best and/or worst from previous years?

the best answer chosen will be one that includes a particularly well-chosen humorous quote or bit of insightful analysis.
  • rusty wallace
  • How many drivers are there just to fill the field?

    May be...

  • I agree with Biggie B. You're obviously not a fan.
  • 43 oh who cares about the nobodies
  • I think this question sucks... so I'm not going to answer the rant the poster intended, but make a comment about this "field filling."

It's a shame that our economy is in such a poor state that most Nationwide teams can't get a sponsor for their cars. What's even worse is that a lot of the cars, because of lack of sponsorship money, are bringing their cars to the track, running just enough to qualify them in the running, and then taking their 43rd place winnings and their cars home. So, in Nationwide, there really are only 10-15 drivers who have a chance to win, and almost all are affiliated with established Cup teams (such as Roush or Childress). This has to be stopped. What is making the sponsorship for these cars so expensive? Who's pocketing the money? If things get any worse in the Nationwide series, it's going to either fall apart, or need a share-the-wealth philosophy. Someone, please, fix it before it's too late!
  • Kyle Petty has just as much a chance to win a race as Jimmy Johnson. Will it happen? PROBABLY NOT. But it CAN! The point is that I doubt that many of the guys driving give a rats butt if they win or not, they just like to race.

As for the grouching about it, I suggest that if you don't like what's going on in the sport, take to someone that can do something about it. Maybe they will! Other than that change the channel. You wont be hurting any ones feelings.
  • Kyle Petty has 8 career wins...that is more than 11 other active Cup drivers including Elliott Sadler and Denny Hamlin. Kyle's drive is keeping the memory of Adam alive with driving the #45 and running Victory Junction Gang Camps.

I have been a fan since the early 70's I can tell you today's racing is more competitive than back then...in the 70's you had about 7 teams that had the best chance of winning each week. Each team ran only one car back them.

Today though there are only 4 teams that really have a chance to win (HMS, JGR, Roush, RCR) they account for about 15 cars that can win.

Caution flags have always been a problem in NASCAR no matter the decade. That will never change.
  • You make a point there, a stupid point, but a point none the less.

    Here's my answer in a nutshell -

    GET OVER IT
  • If you look at the entire field each race there are only 10 to 15 drivers who really have a chance to win, Are the rest just there to make sure theres 43 cars to race? Like Petty, why does he even climb in a car? He's a joke!!! How many races has he won? Living off his Dad's name. I think Nascar is becoming a joke, they throw the yellow if one of the drivers get a little hang nail, and about all the drivers are really just a bunch of pussy's Nascar won't let them fight, or say any thing bad anymore. They are ruining the sport!!!! Whoops throw the yellow I just farted!!!!
  • Well my friend, like everyone else you are entitled to your opinion. Like any other sport, you do have the upper crust who always seem to win, and in those sports you have players on mediocre teams who are proud just to have the chance to participate. NASCAR is no different, many drivers go their full career and never get the chance to drive into Victory Lane. You chose Kyle Petty as your example, there are many drivers past and present who would like to have his stats, 8 wins 173 top 10's and 8 poles. Saying he's made a living off of Richard's name is not a correct statement. What he has done off the track with the Victory Junction Gang and other charities has made him one of the most respected figures in NASCAR. While I do agree with you that Officials are quick to pull the trigger on a caution, I think it is more the fact that driver safety has come more to the forefront after the tragedies of the past few years. I commend NASCAR for throwing a yellow if they see a problem that could cause a wreck and injure a driver, nobody who is a true fan wants to see someone hurt. As far as letting them fight, and run off at the mouth, might I suggest you become a wrestling fan.
  • Wow, how do you respond to all of that? All I can say is, if you don't like it don't watch it.
  • maybe you should pay more attention to the race. The intensity aquires more perception Report Abuse
  • i think at some races you will see 2 or 3 cars that are just field fillers, but most races have a field filled with teams with dreams or teams that are established and are working to regain their place with the contenders. as for your other comments those are your opinions and even if i don't agree with all of them i believe that's your take on it and your entitled to them.
  • I have never seen a hangnail caution. Nobody forces you to watch. For alot of races this year there were pretty much 42 fillers. Nobody was able to touch Busch or Edwards in the races they have won for the most part. Oh and that was a queef you let, not a fart.
  • when your done cleaning the bathroom, don't forget to turn off the lights.
  • well, for as long as i've been watching seriously there have been forty-three drivers in every race (thirty-six in the truck series), and every one of them has a chance to win. on occasion, one of them not in the top fifteen actually does win. all those drivers who aren't in the top fifteen you speak of are generally on their way up the ranks or on their way back down, although i'm sure there are quite a few who have never really been serious contenders throughout their cup careers. but that's true of nearly every "stick-and-ball" sport as well - college and pro. when's the last time a serious dark horse won a championship, in any sport from college basketball to golf to football to whatever? it happens, but is rare. not everyone can be the best of the best - by definition...

as for bashing certain drivers and complaining about how big a joke nascar has become, it's called a remote control - use it. you must have at least basic cable so that gives you dozens, if not hundreds of channels to choose from...

  • Who will miss the Chase??? I hope Jeff Gordon?

    May be...

  • Don't worry about Jeff, he'll be in there. As for those on the bubble, my money's on Bowyer, though I would love to see Ragan in there. Kahne's got a shot, but like I said, I think Bowyer rounds out the field after Richmond.
  • <----
  • i hope ragan makes it in and i wouldn't cry if bowyer fell out to make room for him.
  • clint...
i hate him! hope he loses!
  • It all depends on Richmond. I, too, think Gordon will be in it. Kahne has had a run of bad luck 2 miles long this year. Depends who's hot at Richmond!
  • Kasey Kahne. Jeff will be there.
  • Somewhere around 30 to 35 drivers will not make the chase.. Only 12 will make it. Jeff Gordon will be in the 12 that does. Ragan ,Bowyer and Kahne will battle for the final position. I think Bowyer will prevail. I hope Ragan does.
  • Who will miss the Chase - David Ragan
  • If David Ragan was going to make it into the Chase field, he'd have had a stronger run tonight. Now, he's forced to make up points on Clint Bowyer at Richmond...a very tall order. =\
  • go change your diaper.
  • What would NASCAR have done?

    May be...

  • They would not have done anything. It is no different than when piece came up off the track and ruined runs at several other tracks. Or when there is a tire failure. It sucks, but that is how racing is.

Besides, the light was property of the track and not NASCAR. So, it wouldn't have been NASCAR's fault.

I'd rather lose due to a poor setup. I'd rather struggle the whole day than run well and have something out of my control take the win away.
  • NASCAR would not have done anything to make up for it. Ask Jeff Gordon. They didn't do anything to help him when the track came up and tore his car up.
  • They would have just said sorry (maybe) and said is a racing thing.

I would rather lose due to a bad car then someones screwup
  • they are probably all black, black black black, black ppl, you just wrote on my question that i shouldnt write that ppl are black and i should say ppl are african american, well let me tell you something im black and i dont like to be called african american i find it offensive because i know ppl only say it to be politacally correct,

i never even been to africa how am i african american????? im american american, and no black person i know cares if they are called black but most would consider you a outsider for saying african american, get out sometime and meet some BLACK ppl were not so scary or ignorant as ppl think we are, well some of us are pretty ignorant
  • If that light had landed on a car... if it damaged a car bad enough would they get the back up car inspected real fast and let them use with no penalties... would they just let it be... what would have happened?

and would you rather lose a race because of your spotter, because of your pit crew, because of equipment malfunctions, because of a wreck, because of a rookie mistake, or because your car just wasn't good enough?
  • They would've done nothing. They'd move on. That's how it works in NASCAR.
  • I would rather loose a race like Carl Edwards did this spring at Atlanta & last year at Richmond. I would rather blow up while leading by 2+ seconds over 2nd place. At least you're going out in style, while literally smoking the field :)

As far as what NASCAR would have done, nothing. Remember a few years ago when a driver had NASCAR & TV equipment inside the car, catch fire? NASCAR didn't do anything then & they won't do anything now.
  • no the driver would pit and the crew would fix it
  • I don't think they would have done anything. I remember when Jeff Gordon hit a patch in the track (too may brain cells gone because I can't remember the track) and a big chunk of asphalt flew up and damaged his car. He wasn't given aby special consideration or time to fix the car.

But that light would have really messed up a car if someone had hit it!

I liked what one of the announcers said: Yellow caused by the yellow.

I suppose I would rather lose due to a wreck but only after bumping and banging down the front stretch after the final turn, heading for the checkers!
  • The pit crew would just have to try and fix the damage, if possible. However, I am sure that both the track and NASCAR will double and triple check all of the fixtures that hang over the track before the next race.
  • 31.8.08

Where do you think Dale Junior will finish tonight?

    May be...

  • I think he will be in the top 5 if all goes well. Go Jr. I would like to see him win, but....I don't think it will be tonite.

    *HEXX*
  • First !!
  • 4th
  • top 5 past 2 fall races he has had a top 5... and the spring race was horrible because of the weepers
  • 13th
  • Top five.
  • Im going to say he is going to finish 23rd.
  • I'm hopping for a top 5, but IDK, listening to the two of them Tony Jr & Dale Jr scanner, I'd say 10 and I'm praying hard tonight.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • He will finish in the 1st position.
  • i think jr will get a top 10.
  • hopefully 43
  • For you Heidi I'll say he wins. Catch me later. I like this track. I'm gonna chill with some Blue Moon.

    Hanging RPMS man...
  • Not a very good track record here. He needs to get a good finish.
  • i think he's got a decent shot at a top-ten, maybe better. it will all depend upon how well he and tony jr do at adjusting to the track as it goes from day to night...
  • Top 50.
  • Solid Top-10 finish!

I'm picking him to place in 7th.

    He's a 12 to 1 favorite to win.
  • From what I am seeing right now I would be amazed with a top 10. Hopefully when the sun drops he will handle better and not worse. Seems he and Kyle are hangin on by the seat of the suits.

Just hoping to clinch a spot in the chase tonight. This track owes him one so here's to hoping for more....
  • Oh, who the heck knows?

Could be 1st, could be 34th, but I wouldn't bet anything worse than 40th. Jr.'s gonna clinch his Chase spot too-nite!
  • 1st HE IS GOING 2 WIN
  • 6th
  • Who is Better looking Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon?

    May be...

  • how the hell should I know?
    oops...
    I mean...
    Jeff looks like he's blasted
Jimmie looks like he's having the real fun
Got any pictures of them in a bikini?
  • Jimmie Johnson.
  • That is a really tough question, both are extremely good looking. However, I think Jeff is better looking.
  • Jeff Gordon...I like his face more clean cut but he still looks good. And I'm not just saying Jeff Gordon because he's my favorite NASCAR driver...or maybe, but I think he looks better. Jimmie looks good in his own way too. :)
  • Their both ugly now as their noses are bent out of shape since Jr. joined the team. Go 88. Today is his day.
  • why wasnt i in the running
  • Gee, that's a tough one, I can't decide.

They are both a piece of manly man beef.

I'll go with their women though, that's the meat I want to be in a sandwich.
  • I don't even have to look at those photos to tell you that Jeff Gordon is one of the best looking men in NASCAR.
  • Jeff, then Jimmie, then Greenbean! :-)
  • Jimmie
  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/14034434@N0... or
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/14034434@N0...
  • Jimmie Johnson is although they are both cute but jimmie wins this one
  • Jimmie by far
  • Jeff Gordon
  • Johnson
  • Both have an auora about them. I love Jeff gordon's laugh. Let say it this way Jimmie is handsome while Jeff is really, really cute.
  • Nascar Nation.................?

    May be...

  • Kyle Petty and Bobby Labonte support the Victory Junction Gang Camp which I think is a great place for terminally ill kids.
  • idk any one that helps animals
ok then Go Greg Biffle Foundation
  • The Denny Hamlin Foundation supports cystic fibrosis. I think it's the only that specifically supports cystic fibrosis.

And of course I'll support Brest Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Absolutely.

    http://www.jeffgordonfoundation.org/
  • I'll join you, but you have to remind me.
  • Which driver supports your favorite charity?

Will you join me the week of Oct. 5th - Oct. 12th in sporting pink avatars for Breat Cancer Awareness Month? If you don't know how to make a pink avatar, Email me and I will help you.
  • You know I will. I am a survivor of cervical cancer 13 years ago just after my twins were born. They were 3 months old when it was discovered EARLY. Not breast cancer but a silent killer as well.

    This is Kyles foundation:

    http://www.kylebuschfoundation.org/

And I give to that, the NASCAR foundation and Victory Junction Gang. I give in May to coincide with the NASCAR foundations pin drive and the fact that in May of 1996 I was told that the cancer was GONE. Completely.

I honor YOU Tom for doing such a thing. Please make me an avatar!!
  • I'm a fan of both Elloitt/Hermie's and Jamie's Autism Foundations.

I'd be honored to use a pink avatar along with you, but I'll need you to help make me one.
  • my little brother has autism, so i'm defiantly supportive of that. yes. i will make a pink avatar, my heart and prayers go out to those who have breast cancer.
  • Sure, I'll go pink with ya :D

I like several of the charities that alot of drivers support. I like Dale Jr's.

    http://www.thedalejrfoundation.org/missi...

I also like the charities that Greg Biffle, Elliot Sadler, and yes I admit I, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch. I'm sure there are more that I just can't think of off hand :D
  • im not sure about the charity's. ill join ya just email me. :)
  • My son has both Tourette Syndrome and Asperger's Syndrome. There is no charity for Tourette's but Asperger's is a form of Autism.
I'm sure you know Elliott Sadler's foundation is for Autism awareness.
    That's my favorite.

I'll join you. My husband's aunt had breast cancer that is in remission right now.
  • I like Jimmie Johnson's foundation.
My parents donate 100 and some dollars to it each month.

    I also like Jeff Gordon's, Ryan Newman's, Jamie McMurray's, and Greg Biffle's.
  • I'm not really sure about who supports what charity but i have the utmost respect for Kyle Petty for what he does off track (OFF TRACK ONLY) I'm down with the pink, my mom's a survivor
  • I will certainly do that, Mr. Veepee! Just remind me closer to time...

My favorite charity is the LLS (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Upon research, I found that none other than JEFF GORDON was honored recently for devoting 10 years to the LLS! I just have to give a big WTG to Jeff and all the Rainbow Warriors... just... way too awesome.

EDIT: Hey Jessi... research The Greg Biffle Foundation. Matty's teammate does A LOT to donate to animal shelters around the USA.
  • Ya of course I'll join you.... One of my aunts had breast cancer twice and another aunt once.... its kind of a big deal in my family
  • 1, 2, 3 in the nascar nationwide race tonight?

    May be...

  • May I pick Kyle to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd? You know DW always says that he can run 3 wide all by himself. My picks are almost always the kiss of death, so yeah, go Kyle!

I'm joking, ya'll don't get mad. Good luck to them all. May they have a good, safe race. Peace.
  • 1) kyle busch
    2) joey logano
    3) kevin harvick
  • I'll go with 1~burton 2~bowyer 3~keselowski
  • 1- KYLE BUSCH #2- KEVIN HARVICK #3- CARL EDWARDS
  • Brad Keslowski
    Carl Edwards
    Kyle Bush
  • OK:

    1. Edwards
    2. Burton

    *HEXX*
  • I would love to see 88 win again. Keeping my fingers crossed.
    SO here it is
    88
    20
    60
  • Kyle Busch
    Carl Edwards
    Clint Bowyer
  • i honestly don't know since keselowski won't do well

    (remember the crash last year)
  • 18, #20, #88
  • 1 88
    #2 99
    #3 2
  • i've never asked one of these, but i figure why not be one of the five who will do so between qualifying and the start of the race...
    ;-)

so, given that kyle and joey smoked 'em all (except for burton) in qualifying in their horsepower-handicapped toyotas using crew members from off the bench, who are your picks to finish one, two, three in the race tonight?

the starting order is here: http://www.nascar.com/races/bg/2008/27/d... and for those who don't care to click to look, here's the top ten rolling off tonight:

    kyle busch
    jeff burton
    joey logano
    carl edwards
    jimmie johnson
    mike bliss
    jamie mcmurray
    chase miller
    kevin harvick
    clint bowyer
  • Finishing order for me:
    1- Brad Keselowski
    2- Jeff Burton
3- Kyle Busch (yes Rowdy's World even I can pick yo boy)
Now if Carl Edwards and Bowyer get into it again, more sparks, for the Nationwide series. Lets all hope for a great race..

Go Brad Keselowski & the US NAVY #88 & JR Motorsports
  • 1) Carl Edwards
    2) Jeff Burton
    3) Kevin Harvick

Ask all you want to Rowdy's World, I love these questions. Its just pure d luck in picking the finishing order.
