  • Why does NASCAR have a drug testing program?

    May be...

  • To try to keep this sport clean. Baseball's gone, so is football to drugs.
  • I don't think steroids can make you drive a car faster
  • To keep them from using drugs. Racing is about endurance and some steroids can greatly improve that.

Also drivers like Arron Fike that actually raced while having who knows what in his system. I wouldn't want to drive next to him in a golf cart so putting him in a car doing 200 mph would be much more dangerous.
  • Endurance is the main reason steroids are banned in Nascar. Racing takes an incredible amount of endurance.

In baseball it's for strength to whack homeruns since there sitting on a bench 50% of the game.
  • Performance enhancing drugs can give you a substantial advantage in any sport. So to answer the question why, they can alter your judgement, or contribute to a decision that could potentially hurt someone plus they don't want anyone having a distintive advantage over everyone. A lot of it has to do with safety believe it or not.
  • Think of it this way... If you were driving next to someone who was high on any kind of substance, would you want him next to you going 180 mph into a 33 degree banked turn at 3 g's? I wouldn't.
  • Would you want someone high on unknown drugs racing beside you at 180+ miles per hour. I know I wouldn't. That's why they have drug testing in NASCAR.

    GO 24!!!!
  • They actually put the steroids in the car and the driver tests positive from breathing the fumes.
  • Because there are too many lives at stake. From the crew members to the officials and drivers themselves the risk for injury or death is too big to be lackadaisical when it comes to scrutinizing what the drivers and people involved with the cars have in their systems. If one life is spared because of this policy it is an enormous success!
    Jonah's FINE N 09!!!!
  • If I remember correctly it's because a number of the drivers were in favor of drug testing simply for their own safety. I guess there were some drivers that probably knew there were some other drivers (as well as pit crew members etc..) that were under the influence of drugs so they became concerned and NASCAR came up with the drug testing policy.

I think what may have gotten drivers concerened was Craftsman Truck driver Aaron Fike was suspended from NASCAR after being arrested for possession of heroin
    http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headline...
    http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/headline...
  • It is for other drugs as well. They do not want some one going 200mph high as a kit.
  • Looking at most of those guys, it's obvious they're not on steroids. NASCAR is looking for, er, recreational substances.
  • It may help them get better eye sight to maneuver through the track. Its not for natural strenght becuase it how fast a car can go depends on the car.650 palm tero
  • Nascar Nation...Do you, or someone in your family, work in the automotive industry?

    May be...

  • My Aunt and cousin were both saleswomen at dealerships in Orlando, then they moved to Vegas, and did the same thing there, but late last year they both got laid off. They moved back here when my grandmother passed away, and no dealerships in the area were hiring. I haven't heard if any of the dealers around here are shutting down.
  • Yes, I have a friend that her husband works as a mechanic for Chrysler, and from what it looks like he still has a job! YEE HAAA!
  • I'm not in the automotive but I'm in the heavy equipment industry and we are hurting to
  • My wife has relatives that used to work at the GM truck assembly plant in Janesville, WI. I used to sell cars out of a Chevy/Buick/Pontiac/Olds dealership but got into real estate 3 1/2 years ago. I still have lots of friends that sell cars or are involved with dealerships. From mechanics to F&I managers, service writers to receptionists and even the detailer. I know tons of people that are immediately or potentially affected by the automotive industry. My prayers join yours and I hope for some solutions and healing in this troubled industry!
    Jonah's FINE N 09!!!!
  • negative; though some of my clients are the aluminum die-caster that make a lot the parts and pieces under the hood. big steel, forging, heat treating, and primary aluminum all are close to hitting bottom.
  • I have a brother that works at a Discount Tire.
  • Well I was in the Teamsters Union for 17 years and I guess you could say I have alot of brothers and sisters hurt by the slumping economy amongst other things. Hang tough brothers and sisters, better things are to come.

    BTW: Super Nice Avatar!
  • I own a Trucking company and a Used car lot. My Uncle had 2 Chrysler dealerships in South Carolina and they shut both of them down but he still has a GM dealership.

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • I have experience in both the automotive industry and heavy equipment industry and work is very hard to find in both places. My advice now is if you have a job don't go looking for greener pastures, just stay put.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Just curious how many nascar fans work in the automotive industry. My husband works for a Chrysler dealership and their dealership is the only Chrysler dealership in the area that did not shut down.
-My prayers go out to all who have lost jobs in the auto industry-
  • I have worked in the auto industry for about 10 years now for several different suppliers. Its worse now than its ever been since I've been working.

Sadly we supply Toyota (cut a little production), Honda (cut a lot of production), GM (cut a little production), and Nissan (actually maintained production but we lose money on every part we make for them).
  • I took a Vo Tech class on Auto Body, learning how to fix dents and paint cars. Haven't done anything with that except working in an airport in a custom paint shop for small planes. Quit that job last summer.

I've recently begun to start thinking about going to the NASCAR Technical Institute and getting a better education on cars.
  • does working on my truck every other day count?i have to get back and forth to work somehow.............no not really,my truck is fine.but i do have a few friends that work at car dealers here in town.one of my friends is store manager at the kia dealership,2 friends own car lots, one a honda dealer and the other a small one.
so far around here, the dealerships are still doing o.k.as far as i know they are all still in business and some even have sales help signs out.fastest personal watercraft
  • Why is it that in the truck series?

    May be...

  • I don't have an answer to the part about why they have the rules set that way, but I do have a comment on Mike Skinner's crash. That was a hard lick he took, but I wonder who remembers the wreck he had in the 31 Lowes' car circa 2001 or 2002, where he was sidelined for a few weeks with an ankle injury. Now that was a hard hit.
  • It's to save money but by making more pit stops makes it more dangerous as the pits are more scary than being on the racetrack. It's really STUPID !!!
  • Maybe its because of the location of the gas cap.

That was quite the ride that Mike Skinner took @ Lowe's. Amazing.
  • the teams are not allowed to change tires and fuel up on the same pit stop?is it a safety issue or what?and if it is then why not make that rule go into effect in the nationwide or cup series?remember there are 7 more teams during those races than a truck race.
  • Reduced salaries for crew/team members. Although some people think its stupid it makes perfect sense. I'm a hardcore truck fan for years and it doesn't bother me in the least. Very good for the series in these lousy economic times.

Man Mike just got slammed. Ouch.

It's simple. The same 4-5 guys instead of 7 are cross trained to do multiple jobs. Instead of having one man(at about $40,000 salary) to do one job. Get it?

That's $120,000 in salaries saved which keeps cost down and number of team entries up.

Thats just a random salary rate but regardless it's a lot of money saved.

Amazing! That's what I call knocking the wall down. You just never know what you'll see in racing. Wow! Mike's fuming.

Can anyone explain to me how the segments work in the All-Star Race?

    May be...

  • If a driver wins the first segment does he go to the back of the pack for the second segment? And where will he start for the 10 lap shoot out for a million big ones?
Hope some1 can clear this up for me....Thanks
  • I copied and pasted directly from nascar.com. I hope it clears things up for you. There is no field inversion this year.

    The race includes:

    • Race-winning drivers from the previous and current Cup Series seasons.

    • Cup Series champions from the past 10 years who are active drivers and have competed in at least one series event during the previous or current season.

    • Past winners of the All-Star Race.

    • Two drivers who qualify for the premier event by finishing first and second, respectively, in the Showdown (formerly the Open).

    • One driver who joins the All-Star Race field by winning the Fan Vote.

    The All-Star Race's format:

    • Segment 1 -- 50 laps with a mandatory green-flag pit stop on Lap 25 at which time teams must pit and take four tires. Following the end of Segment 1, the caution flag will be displayed for an optional pit stop.

    • Segment 2 -- 20 laps with the caution flag displayed at the end of the segment for an optional pit stop.

    • Segment 3 -- 20 laps with a 10-minute break at the end of the segment. Teams may make normal adjustments to their cars during this break. The finishing order after the third segment determines the final starting positions for the final segment.

    • Segment 4 -- 10-lap shootout with only green-flag laps counting.
  • i think every1 who watches NASCAR including me wants to know this
  • Um I'm not sure how it exactly works. Great question but like you said I think If you win a segment you go to the back of the pack for the next segment.
But last year I think they drew names out of a hat to see where people started in the last 10 lap dash. They will explain it the night of the race but you know how DW is, you won't be able to understand how there explaining it...lol....And when you think you know how it all works next year they will totally change it up again...
I'm pretty sure they had made some big changes from the last All-Star race....
  • If Nascar tried a little harder, surely they could make the All-Star race a little more confusing..why not just have a dam- race, and let it go at that..wonder why NASCAR is not a word in Y/A answers..seems like spell checker would recognize it
  • Here you go:

    http://www.cbssports.com/autoracing/stor...

That's the best I can do. I don't really understand it, because it seems like NASCAR changes it every year. It's too complicated for me; I just know when somebody takes the checkered flag. : )align screen pocket pc

  • Are any of the drivers in NASCAR military veterans?

    May be...

  • They are showing their respect for their country unlike the ones you see with their hands at their sides are talking.
  • I have seen many of the drivers, pit crews and their families salute during the singing of the National anthem, however I have also seen some that do not. Thank you for the show of patriotism
  • I'll bet there are veterans in the ranks. Maybe not active drivers, some of the retired drivers could be.
  • you can't really do both, if you dedicate yourself to NASCAR, because you have to grow up in the sport and have a whole different mind set
  • im not sure but that is an interesting question
  • No. I imagine some of the oldtimers were probably in World War II, but no one these days.
  • .....Currently there are no drivers who were in the military services. However Junie Donlevy,(former car owner);Bud Moore (former driver / Owner) and the first NASCAR champion Red Byron, were all World War 2 Vets
  • No but it would been nice because I am a veteran.
  • no

What drug did Jeremy Mayfield test positive for?

    May be...

  • who knows nascar wont tell you
  • I feel for Jeremy Mayfield. He is the least likely person to be abusing anything! He said the only thing he could think of was mixing the over counter drug with the prescription drug....

I just wish NASCAR would settle this once and for all. And, I'm really curious as to what kind of drug test was administered? For longevity, a hair test is the most informative. I digress. Sorry.

    Good luck, Jeremy!
  • Alcohol and Nicotine
  • They haven't released the results yet. Jeremy is in the process of trying to find out if it is the result of an over-the-counter drug or prescription drug (or both) that could have caused a false positive.
As of now Jeremy Mayfield has transfered ownership of his NASCAR team over to his wife and hired JJ Yeley to drive his car until he can get with his doctors to come up with some reason as to why he failed the test.
  • NASCAR is too SPECIAL to let us know. No one knows yet.
  • NASCAR says it is on a need to know basis and apparently we, the fans, do not need to know.

    GO 24!!!!
  • And I thought that the rule in Nascar was 3 positive tests results in a lifetime ban. But I read that Mayfield was suspended indefinitely. So how long his he going to be out?
  • no one knows yet?? hgh, thc, pcp, and the list goes on.
  • I had read that it was a mix of prescription and some over the counter stuff. And I also read it was Meth but who knows.a696
  • Can some one please tell me how nascar is a sport.?

    May be...

  • Actually sir, driving a race car is nothing compared to tooling around in a Caddy at 80mph. The drivers push the cars to their limits while experiencing up to 4Gs in the corners. Plus stock cars have minimal steering assist (i.e. power steering) so it takes a good dose of arm strength to wrestle the 3400lb cars around the track. Add in the intense focus it takes to race door to door with 42 other cars for 4 hours, with temperatures in car reaching 130 degrees. It takes courage, stamina, extreme focus, and great hand-eye coordination to be a race car driver. On top of that, you have the pit crews (most of them former college athletes) that can change four tires (weighing 80lbs each) and fuel the car using a gravity fed fuel can in under 14 seconds. A number of professional athletes from different sports have gotten behind the wheel of NASCAR race car and said afterwords about how much it drained them after just a few laps and the respect they had for the drivers to do it for four hours. So if other pro athletes such as football, baseball, and basketball players consider it a sport, then how can you not?
  • Unlike other sports that relies on little intelligence and just some big stupid athletes ... NASCAR is quiet the opposite. It requires more intelligence and relies less on big stupid athletes. I see how that can be confusing for people who are fans of baseball, football, and basketball.
  • Check out www.wikipedia.com- and check out the definition for Sports. Youll get the full answer there.

Regarding "physical" aspects, a driver must be in excellent physical condition to drive these race cars. A. They need to be hydrated and have the proper nutrients, because for hours they are in a race car traveling 150 mph +, so their mind needs to be there, and they are in a car and suit with temps of 100 degrees. B. the lighter a driver is, the faster the car goes. Most drivers watch what they eat and have trainers come to their homes. If you have ever seen some of these drivers in person you will notice their weight. Some of these men weigh no more than 145lbs, and the reasonings are that the lighter they are, the faster the car goes. The drivers eat before a race- but very light meals with protein.

P.S. Your Grandma definitely couldnt do this...
  • Considering it's in the SPORTS catergory, I'd say this nulls this question.

We all know why you ask these questions, it's just to anger us.
  • Hey- another Patriot fan Kewl beans

I always thought a 'sport' involved physical exercise, so you can count golf, fishing and race car driving out. (Guess there's a lotta southern boys who'd argue that point!)

On that note, how do they put those 'poker marathons' on TV as legitimate contests? I'd rather play than watch
  • Your grandma would end up in the wall after the first 50 feet, trust me.
  • I consider it just driving fast nothing my grandma couldn't do.
  • if we pretend to agree with you, will you promise to go away?
  • You mean your grandma does'nt drive a Buick 15 mph under the limit I'm impressed. I want to see a stick and ball sport where the particpants pull 4g's every 3-5 seconds. BTW the sport's called auto racing NASCAR's a sanctioning body within that sport(and it's always NASCAR that gets brought into question, never IRL, Formula 1, ALMS, etc). Just for fun look up a youtube video of Dale Earnhardt Jr doing a guest flight in a Blue Angels F/A-18, then look up Terell Davis, at 8g's Dale laughs and cracks jokes, Davis passes out. Damn bitter Patriots fans
  • Well, you have open competition, competitors, winners & losers. Quickest to the finish line wins. Sounds like a sport to me.
  • Oh crap, here we go again.

NASCAR is a sport because there are competitors, all striving for the same goal. To win.
  • And somebody tell me when 'someone' became two words. And while we're at it, a period AND a question mark at the end of the sentence/question?
  • And I bet your Granny LOVESSSSSSSS NASCAR!!
    Go Granny Go Granny
  • Yeah, you are right...it's not a sport, it's a way of life! Maybe you should try increasing your education and intelligence level and learn what all the other NASCAR fan already know. :)
And, by the way, unless your grandma is Janet Guthrie or Shawna Robinson, she could not do it.
NASCAR drivers are every bit, if not more so the athletes of any other sport.
  • The difference between a sport, and a game such as baseball, or football, is you play a game then you go home.. In a real sport, nobody does much playing, and sometimes someone needs to come bye, and collect your remains.. The stakes are much higher in real sports.. Give us a shout when they start wearing fireproof suits in football..
Just because they give the scores to various games, on so called "sports shows", doesn't make them more than games..
Edit: Wedge, they do it on F1, and IRL/ Indy Car for years.. I've been to one F1 site that even has permanent trolls..
Most of these trolls know so little about driving even a family car on the street, they actually believe that when they get behind the wheel, they are "driving"..
Dude, if you can catch your breath, you ain't "driving"... lol
  • NASCAR is a Sport

    Baseball
    Football
    Basketball
    Are all Games

NASCAR is a sport where you don't have to stick steroids in your *** to Win.
  • Tim and Steve are gay room mates that like taking bubble baths together and watch wrestling Report Abuse
  • I told you trolls this once before and here goes again.

NASCAR is not just a sport, NASCAR is THE sport and a way of life.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Yeah here we go again.

Because ABC and FOX say so.
  • an intelligent question, right up there with where do they pee...hmmm well check ask.com, check a dictionary, then check the newspapers and see where the listing falls, all answers say SPORT!
  • ALL THE OTHER SPORTS ONLY PLAY WITH ONE BALL!!!!!
  • aaaaaaahhhh troll

    don't hate on nascar man
  • I'm not going to dignify this question with an answer.....Oh, wait! Crap!
  • ammmmmm first off because you found it under sports of and that is all the answer this question is worth..
  • i know when do they pee is coming up cuz i see this question every week
im not going to explain nascar he is obvious her to cause troubleglock full auto kits
  • Poll: On a scale of 1 to 10 how has your favorite driver done so far after 11 races this year?

    May be...

  • Kasey Kahne 5,under- achieving
  • OMG! Don't even like thinking of it! lol
Smoke is atleast an 8 though! He has done Great!
BTW: Dave I feel like Kurt has done Awesome too!
  • Gordon- 9

    GO 24!!!!
  • I would give Harvick a 7
    But his team..... 1

For both of them though, 4
  • My favorite driver is tony Stewart and i would give him a 9 if his engine didn't blow up at talladega he would be the points leader and has had the chance to win the last 3 of 4 races only way it would be a 10 if he won on of those races
  • I give Carl #99 a 7 also. He's always near the front.
  • Harvick - 6
  • Carl gets a 5. I'm so use to seeing him have a win by now... this is killing me!!!!
  • Bobby Labonte-5
    Dale Jr- 6
  • Third in point's and no DNF's. 1 win, 3 top five's, 6 top ten's and 10.3 average finish. That rate's a solid 8.
  • tony stewart a 9.5 just waiting for that win :)

bobby labonte 3 he had a top 10 finish if i remeber correctly but anything above 20 place is good for bobby :)
  • I'll give smoke a 8.5
  • I'll give Brian Vickers a 9
    Wait! he aint my fave
oh well, i'll give him a 4 then
Tony Stewart and Mark Martin get a 10
  • I would rate Ryan as about an 8. That is where is is in the points right now. After the way his year started I was not sure he would even make it into the top 12. He and his team certainly have been ARMY STRONG!
  • I give David Ragan a 4. He needs to step it up.
  • An 8 because he is only 2 spots out of first place in the standings.
  • I'd have to give Junior a 5 at best n that might be just a little high. He's really been struggling and just can't seem to get it going. His season isn't a total loss yet, so I'll give him a break n hope he can catch some points here real soon. Congrats to you for Kurt this year.I'm glad to see him doing so good.
  • minus 9
  • Spiderman Tony Stewert---that engine blow out hurt big time. He's still got it. Should challenge Gordon for top place in the chase.
  • 5. IDK what happened after Martinsville.
  • 2
  • tony Stewart gets a 9 (would be a ten but he's still lacking a little).
  • I am gonna give Kahne a 51/2 he is having good qualifying and pretty good starts but he keeps having the worst luck as the race goes on. I am hoping with the new engine package it will give him the boost to stay up in the front.
  • I'll give Dale Jr a 5. But I'll give his crew chief a 1.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I would give Juan Pablo an 8. He's been improving a lot but I really think it's time he won a race.
  • Jeff Gordon 8.5 would like to have seen another win or 2
  • Gordon-9
    Stewart-9
    Newman-8
  • 6 for Kyle.
He's won the most races of any driver, but he lacks the consistancy he had throughout *most* of the 2008 and 2007 seasons.

I'll add a point just because of his oscar-worthy post race performances.
    He's a showman..I'll give him that.
    7.
  • Well a 10 just for being in all the races and performance of an 8 I would say.
  • jeff gordon an 8
    jimmie johnson a 6
    dale jr a 2
    mark martin a 7
  • I'll go for a 5. Dale Jr. is struggling some, but he is still 18th out of 52 drivers that have earned points this season. 5 is middle of the road, which is where his season has been to date.
  • 10 being the best
    1 being the worst

I give Kurt Busch a 7.apexi com usa
  • Whens the next Nascar race?

    May be...

  • Saturday night at 7 or 8 on Speed is the All Star Challenge. I have no idea what time the Open is, though. The next points race is not this Sunday, but next Sunday.
  • the next points race is the coke 600 next weekend but the next races are this weekend the all-star showdown and all-star race

Would you be scared to drive a nascar around the track at max speed a few times ?

    May be...

  • i do 85 on the highway :P but thats still no were close to what these guys do. but i would definetley like to try it.

oh and btw indycar girl, get a new pic b/c u ugly. or is that your boyfriend, looks like a dude.
  • indy car girl u should be scared no roof lil sides id be scared too
    but in a nascar the first lap id be scared the second lap w i d e o p e n
  • Nope, I would love it!
  • No ,I drove a cup car at Texas Motor Speedway at the Richard Petty Driving school and did 159 and I wanted to go faster but that was the limit. You can do the ride along and go 185 .

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • I would love to give it a shot. I have driven a bomber around some dirt tracks and really enjoyed that.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Heck no I would not be scared, as long as I was the only one on the track though. I couldn't hack it in a race. Well maybe I'd race indygirl, for a couple of laps, just so I could put her in the wall.
  • I would love it!
  • yes as a rookie indy cars are actually safer than NASCAR even though they are faster
  • Of course. I'm not going to say "ppssh, it's nothing".
  • I'd be more scared to drive an Indycar. they're much more faster. try 225 mph. Go Indycar!
  • There's only a few tracks that I could probably scare the crap out of myself. Darlington, Richmond, Martinsville, and Bristol make that list. Places like Atlanta, Michigan, or California would be wide open fun.
  • Depends on the track. I'd like a chance to try to scare myself at full throttle at Daytona or Bristol, but not Darlington. Even the real pros get knotted up there.

I have scared the crap out of myself more than a few times driving my Ghia at full bore on the wide open highways in West TX and the Autostrada in Sicily. I don't think VW Karmann Ghia's were meant to go 100+ MPH. The Caravan, on the other hand, did 115 on the Autostrada with little effort or "scariness".

OBTW, the Autostrada is sorta like the Autobahn, except there is actually a speed limit, though not regularly enforced. I blew by an Italian Highway Patrol car at 90+, with nothing more than a glance at my AFI (American Forces Italy) tags.
  • Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
  • not a bit, itd be so much fun. i think the best place to do that would be talledega or daytona or atlanta would be fun
  • Yeah i would be scared but i would be more scared if i crashed the car and had to pay for it, that would suck.
  • drive a NASCAR what?
That's like asking if you would drive an NHRA on the streethard palm reset tungsten

    May be...

  • Obviously not. They are after all trolls.

Just ignore them and they go back into mommies basement sooner or later.
  • The question wasn't as bad as you're making it out to be, and I think you over-reacted a little.

I like David Ragan, and I like his fans..I had high hopes for him this season....sadly he's had a rough 2009, hopefully he can start to turn it around.
  • i dont
  • I'm not trying to be rude, but you can't make people like someone. I hate Dale Jr fans with a passion, but that doesn't make me a troll. Everyone has different taste in who they choose to pull for. I am a Matt Kenseth fan, and I have heard a lot of criticism for him. I don't let it bother me. He is my favorite and that is all that matters. I think you are overreacting just a tad.
  • They probably wanted to see the #6 made out of tape on the door. It was said to be one of the worse wrecked cars, dude was just curious I guess. Take it easy, calm down, it appears from what you told us that you over-reacted. But there is a picture of it on "From the Marbles" on Yahoo! Sports (link below).
Nobody cares about the feelings of a fan of any other driver besides their favorite.
  • get a little toughtr as a Kenseth fan I have heard it all and tough, I still think he is the best! so it will be fine he is new and he is gonna wreck its okay
  • what exactly are you asking here?
  • Dude, I hear how Elliott sucks all the time, I know it sucks but everyone can't like your driver.
  • I would have to ask if you would still think this person is so horrible if they wanted find pictures of Kyle's car. A lot of people cheer when he has any kind of misfortune, so obviously there are a lot of horrible people. Consider that the person who asked this question may be a fan of one of the many people that David Ragan has wrecked lately. Maybe a Kenseth fan, because Matt seems to be about his favourite target. I personally am a Kahne girl, but I like many drivers. I wanted to support a newcomer like Ragan, but he wrecks way too many people. I do not know if it's intentional like it appears or what. But when you dish it out, you better have thick enough skin to take what you get back.
  • Someone asked (very offensively) where they could find a picture of David Ragan's damaged car.

    My answer was-
You're a horrible person (Happen to be a David fan, and I find this offensive). To laugh at someone's troubles like that is almost sickening. GET A LIFE, TROLL! You only ask this to get someone like me to answer like this and get me banned. Don't even try asking something like this again.

    Naturally, it's got deleted.

I ask this 'cause I answered a question that offended.

  • I didn't see the question, so I'm not sure what they said.

  • Which driver so far is looking like they could win a championship in '09?

    May be...

  • Mark Martin is going to win the chase.
  • With the exception of Dale Jr, it is hard to bet against the HMS drivers. No offense to Kyle Busch fans, but he has that win or finish in the 30s attitude. You need to be more consistent to win championships. Until Jimmie Johnson loses one, he will be my pick.
  • or is it too early to tell
  • It might be a tad early but Im very hopeful that Kurt can hang on up there at the front and win that bad boy this year.
  • Too early to tell but T. Stewart is real consistent with his top 5 finishes.
  • Jeff Gordon is the only one I see who is consistently in the top 5 or top 10 near the end of races.
I also think he has learned some things and will be ready to step up for the chase.
  • Brian Vickers
  • Fluffy, it might still be a tad too early, but all of the guys in the top 15 have a clear shot. My favorite, Mark Martin, took only 4 races to drop to 34th, but has climbed up from there to 11th in just 6 races, with 2 wins, 3 top 5's, 6 top 10's and 3 poles on his scorecard for the season. Not too shabby, when you figure in the dismal start he had. He seems to have the momentum, drive, equipment and experience to pull it off his year. I just hope all of his bad luck & equipment failures are behind him. Mark's stats linked below.

EDIT: yes, I know he got collected in the lap 6 wreck at 'Dega, but again, it wasn't his fault, he was COLLECTED in the first "Big One".

EDIT (2): I agree about the "reset", but as long as he doesn't have the sour finishes that Shrub had last year after the reset, he'll be fine. Shrub had bad luck after the chase started, compounded by a few poor strategy calls, which led to an insurmountable defecit, 80 advantage points go away fast when you have a run of bad luck early in the chase. Kyle's stats for last year are the second link.
  • tony stewart will get it. He's the man!
  • A tad early, but to me (and this will make my mom happy) it looks like another Tony Stewart year if you ask me.
  • It might be a little early yet, but the way this season has been going, I'd have to say Smoke. He's got that desire. Any of the top 15 do, but Smoke is doing awesome for a "new team". Then again, you wouldn't expect anything less of him. :)
  • I think it is to early to tell. Too many factors have yet to play out. JJ hasn't had a run yet and we all know he will and Mark, Tony ,Jeff and Kyle are all strong not to be contenders. It will make for an interesting summer!

  • With the points system like this there is no telling. The first year they changed the points system Jeff Gordon had a demanding lead and probably would have won the championship but he was no where near winning after the points reset for the last 10 races. Last year Kyle Busch was winning many races and was consistently up front but as soon as the chase started he faded out. So I say there is never any telling until a few races after the points reset but that is just my opinion.
  • It's either gonna be Jeff Gordon or Kurt Busch.
  • Tony, Newman , martin, gordon and Johnson
Hay they are all driving a Hendrick car?
  • Johnson and, Johnson. It would be cool though if teammate Martin would take it (WOW-50! Martin's the man!)air mile credit card canada

  • Too early to tell but T. Stewart is real consistent with his top 5 finishes.
  • With the exception of Dale Jr, it is hard to bet against the HMS drivers. No offense to Kyle Busch fans, but he has that win or finish in the 30s attitude. You need to be more consistent to win championships. Until Jimmie Johnson loses one, he will be my pick.

I also think he has learned some things and will be ready to step up for the chase.
  • Johnson and, Johnson. It would be cool though if teammate Martin would take it (WOW-50! Martin's the man!)

IF, and that's a big IF, Elliott doesn't land a ride?

    May be...

  • I think Reutiman is a great driver that has a lot of potential. But you just have to go with who you like dude. I think Elliott will end up with a ride. He will probably be a lot better if he gets away from where he is.

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • Kurt Busch is the better choice, he is a better driver with better equipment.

But Martin Truex Jr. would be better :)
  • I refuse to think negatively. Elliott WILL prevail <LOL.>

My 2nd favorite is Mark Martin, but somehow I don't think he'd appeal to you, and he's going to be gone after next year, so you'd be back to square one. How about Marcos Ambrose? He's got a great personality, like Elliott, and he's definitely an underdog.
  • I think Reutimann is a good choice.................

I won't even try to persuade you to get on my "Titanic"....LOL
  • Pull for someone you feel fits your Style.
As did i Scott Speed and Brian Vickers Great Great Drivers and thats why I pull for them.
Plus I fit the Red Bull Image and I love Red Bull.

"The Franchise" isn't a Bad choice I have My eyes kept on him and "Kangaroo Meat" Ambrose as well.
  • Knowing your a Chevy man maybe you should think about one of their driver's. I not brazen enough to say which one, just a thought. No doubt it would be awesome for you to join Team Penske, Dave and I wait with open arm's. Keep the faith concerning Elliott though. If he decide's he's through driving I'd like to see him replace DW. That would be a hoot.
  • Look no further than his teammate, Kasey Kahne. I get the idea that you prefer Dodge drivers, so he's got that going for him. He has been having a lot of bad luck lately, but the man can drive anything with wheels. He's only ever entered 2 truck races- and he won both. 2 dirt track titles. 8 sprint cup victories. I know more women than men like him, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also, he is not some redneck, backward type person. And you never hear anything bad about him.
  • Lately I've found myself pulling for Truex. He's kind of an underdog, a stand up guy, and a good, clean race car driver.
  • I think David Ragan would be a good substitute if Elliott doesn't land a ride. Reuti' and Kurt are also good choices.
  • I'd become a brad keselowski or Mark Martin fan if I weren't a jimmie johnson fan but do consider becoming a jimmie johnson fan think of the benefits of being the 3 time champ's fan you won't get booed when you're wearing any of the apparel or they won't tell you you are a fan of a loser. I hope I won a fan for jimmie johnson.

Go Jimmie Johnson and the whole #48 team!!!!!!!
  • Come to the other "darkside", the older Busch brother Kurt. Biner and I could use another blue deuce soldier on our side. Though David Ruitimann would be a great choice too. Good for you staying loyal to Elliott through thick and thin. The guy hasn't just forgot how to drive.

    <<<<<<< BTW: TY
  • Yes, be a fellow Reutimann fan. The kid is pretty awesome, and he's running well. Just bad circumstances. Is Elliot on a contract year? That means that A.J. will get Elliot's ride. Cool. Elliott Sadler is one of those guys, along with Casey Mears, Jamie Mcmurray, and Juan Pablo Montoya who really aren't very good drivers, but their equipment gets them good finishes. I understand your RPM woes, though. They suck.
  • It will just come. I like to pick guys that haven't done much yet but know they eventually will. You can like a few guys until you decide. What's the difference how many drivers you have an appeal for. I can care less.
  • Mark Martin is my answer. He is the most deserving and has done such a bang up job this year. It's his turn to take home a championship. Mark is a classic driver as well as a gentleman. And, on that note:

    STEWART HAAS RACING ROCKS!!!!!
  • Aren't you real big on AJ Allmendinger? lol jk...

Reutimann sounds good, personally I lean more towards the younger drivers that will b e around a while and are making their way up through the ranks.
  • I'm gonna need a replacement :(

I am leaning towards David Reutimann, can anyone persuade me to follow their favorite? I'm really looking for a driver that hasn't won yet or hasn't won in awhile, Kurt Busch is on my radar too though. Don't get me wrong, I'm sticking with Sadler until the end though. :(
  • Ya I think David Reutimann would be a good replacement. He's been pretty consistent but just a bit unlucky
  • Well Im not a very good persuader, but Jamie could use a few more fans. He hasn't won since 2007 but he generally finished well unless his really bad luck. Bit David Reutimann isn't bad, I like him, I call him Rudy! :)
  • Noooooooooooooooo, not Reutimann! He's just a Waltrip puppet. Nice enough guy, but he doesn't have the fire.
Truex is an excellent choice, when/if he leaves his current ride.
Keep your head up. Sadler ain't done racing yet. : )
  • Well i am leaning towards Jeff Burton is anything happens to Sadler. I just have not taken a liking to a young gun as of late. Since Joey Lagano is from CT my loyalty may lay there ni the future if and only if Sadler falls off the radar.
  • what about robby gordon?
the guy is a true racer.he races on asphalt and accross rocks, sand, and dirt throughout the calendar year.pretty successful on the dirt i might add.
yea the guy has not had his share of luck on the asphalt roundy rounds of nascar, but if were given the right opportunity with the right owner i think that he can be a force on the circuit.
yea i know he tried once with DEI and it did not turn out to well, but i say give him one more chance with a topnotch team.
he has a never say die attitude and he does not put up with any BS from other drivers.i just wish he were a little more succesful in the sprint cup series.

  • You think it's a big if that Elliot doesn't land a ride. I'd say it's the other way around. I think his days in Nascar are coming to a close. Reutimann is maybe a good pick. The guy is surely making Mikey look silly but that isn't hard to do.
  • You can bleed Petty blue like me. But I guess you are not the best of friends with RPM right now huh? I am not too happy with Reed....but hey as long as a car bears #43 I'll be pulling for it.
  • Tony Stewart, I know how much you love him :P

  • The Greatest Motorsports Racer of All Time!?

    May be...

  • My Top 5:
    1- Schumacher
    2- Fangio
    3- Senna
    4- Prost (Completely under-rated)
    5- Piquet
  • In historical order:

    1) Tazio Nuvolari: Out of his mind! No fear, no glory. They don't make drivers like that any more! Do some research on Google, and enjoy.

    2) Juan Manuel Fangio: A dominator with superb skills.

    3) Jim Clark: What not to like?

    4) Mario Andretti: He showed that he could win any series, anywhere, anytime.

    5) Gilles Villeneuve: Total absolute relentless and reckless pursuit of speed. Not too much accomplished in his career, but a true racer.

    6) Alain Prost: Different cars, regulations and harsh competition: He always delivered.

    7) Ayrton Senna: King of the wet. King of qualifying. King of Monaco. And a great although introverted personality. Died too soon, preventing us to witness more accomplishments.

    8) Michael Schumacher: A man machine. He won what was thought impossible. Personality-wise at time controversial and not always likable. But a winning robot in the right place at the right time.

It's hard to pick one from the above elite bunch. If I look at statistics, Schumacher must be the #1. But if I listen to my heart, the greatest motorsport racer would have to be Nuvolari or Gilles Villeneuve (tied).

EDIT: Ah, I forgot John Surtees! Thanks Mike F for bringing it up. He would certainly fill my top ten list, but still won't change my final consideration.
  • Hmmm, spot the odd one out! Schumacher, Clark, Senna, Fangio, Prost, Piquet, Caracciola, Nuvolari, Villeneuve and JOHN FORCE!

Answer to your question, one of the above that's not called John Force!

Edit fmagellan74, with all due respect to you and Mr Force, do you really think someone who sits in a rocket on a quarter mile long straight track really deserves to be mentioned in this company? And which Schumacher do you think people are referring to, Tony another rocket jockey, Ralf someones little brother or Michael a 7 times F1 world champion? As you said it is the F1 section!
  • John Force

*14 Time Funny Car Champ (Inc. 10 straight)
*126 National Event wins (Best of all time)
    *1016 Round wins
*Started a record 395 consecutive events before failing to qualify
*Selected as DRIVER of the YEAR 1996(first ever drag racer)
*Has appeared in an NHRA record 202 final rounds
*Has been named to the Auto Racing All-America Team selected by members of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association 14 times and set a record with 10 consecutive appearances

The question says "Motorsports" not F1. Granted the category says F1, the question is obviously general in nature.

BTW. When "someone" says Schumacher, "he" needs to be more specific on which Schumacher he is talking about. Tony Schumacher? Right Allen?
  • John Surtees, won championships in both 350cc and 500cc motorbikes, then won the 1964 F1 championship. Also came 3rd at Le Mans in 1964.
  • i would have to say its Michael Shumacher, Senna, Michael Andretti or maybe Allen McNish
  • Rudolf Caraciola, Tazio Nuvolari or Gilles Villeneuve.
  • 1.Jim Clark
    2.Aryton Senna
    3.Juan Manual Fangio

    In my opinion anyway
  • The one and only... the fastest man on earth: AYRTON SENNA DA SILVA.
  • Mario Andretti or maybe Sterling Moss
  • hands down it is richard petty with his 200 win's in nascar
  • Who do you think is the greatest?
  • Michael Schumacherxxx folder

    (resistance was futile)

If you're leaning towards Reutimann, chances are if and when it comes time to need a new fav. that's who you should go with.

Listen to your gut instint, it knows.
  • Aren't you real big on AJ Allmendinger? lol jk...

Reutimann sounds good, personally I lean more towards the younger drivers that will b e around a while and are making their way up through the ranks.

  • I think Reutimann is a good choice.................

I won't even try to persuade you to get on my "Titanic"....LOL
  • Well i am leaning towards Jeff Burton is anything happens to Sadler. I just have not taken a liking to a young gun as of late. Since Joey Lagano is from CT my loyalty may lay there ni the future if and only if Sadler falls off the radar.
  • yes u are a smart man dosent look good for sadler if they can get rid of him without lawyers involved he's out i believe how about tony stewart he hasnt won in his new ride yet then you can go for a picticular manurfacturer like chevy, ford, toyota, dodge thats one way to pick a driver i like chevy drivers cuz i drive a chevy thats why i root for dale jr but i do like car edwards he seems like a nice guy and i like the save-a-lot car i like the store stuff is dirt cheap there then i like mike skinner in trucks even though he drives a toyota reutimann is good he may be a break out driver or he may get with a lil better team and lastly how about lagano he's a rookie hasnt won but he seems to be getting the hang of the cot but goood luck finding a new driver and hopefuly sadler lands in nationwide or trucks so u can still root for him i used to root for him too but after the second year at yates he could not produce i got away from him
  • I think David Ragan would be a good substitute if Elliott doesn't land a ride. Reuti' and Kurt are also good choices.
  • Ya I think David Reutimann would be a good replacement. He's been pretty consistent but just a bit unlucky
  • Mark Martin is my answer. He is the most deserving and has done such a bang up job this year. It's his turn to take home a championship. Mark is a classic driver as well as a gentleman. And, on that note:

    STEWART HAAS RACING ROCKS!!!!!

  • I think Reutiman is a great driver that has a lot of potential. But you just have to go with who you like dude. I think Elliott will end up with a ride. He will probably be a lot better if he gets away from where he is.

  • You can bleed Petty blue like me. But I guess you are not the best of friends with RPM right now huh? I am not too happy with Reed....but hey as long as a car bears #43 I'll be pulling for it.
  • Noooooooooooooooo, not Reutimann! He's just a Waltrip puppet. Nice enough guy, but he doesn't have the fire.
Truex is an excellent choice, when/if he leaves his current ride.
Keep your head up. Sadler ain't done racing yet. : )
  • Lately I've found myself pulling for Truex. He's kind of an underdog, a stand up guy, and a good, clean race car driver.
They suck.sams club guest pass 2005
  • IF, and that's a big IF, Elliott doesn't land a ride?

    May be...

  • Knowing your a Chevy man maybe you should think about one of their driver's. I not brazen enough to say which one, just a thought. • You think it's a big if that Elliot doesn't land a ride. I'd say it's the other way around. I think his days in Nascar are coming to a close. Reutimann is maybe a good pick. The guy is surely making Mikey look silly but that isn't hard to do.
  • Lately I've found myself pulling for Truex. He's kind of an underdog, a stand up guy, and a good, clean race car driver.

  • You can bleed Petty blue like me. But I guess you are not the best of friends with RPM right now huh? I am not too happy with Reed....but hey as long as a car bears #43 I'll be pulling for it.

  • Kurt Busch is the better choice, he is a better driver with better equipment.

But Martin Truex Jr. would be better :)

  • Well Im not a very good persuader, but Jamie could use a few more fans. He hasn't won since 2007 but he generally finished well unless his really bad luck. Bit David Reutimann isn't bad, I like him, I call him Rudy! :)
  • Tony Stewart, I know how much you love him :P

  • It will just come. I like to pick guys that haven't done much yet but know they eventually will. You can like a few guys until you decide. What's the difference how many drivers you have an appeal for. I can care less.

  • I'm gonna need a replacement :(

I am leaning towards David Reutimann, can anyone persuade me to follow their favorite? I'm really looking for a driver that hasn't won yet or hasn't won in awhile, Kurt Busch is on my radar too though. Don't get me wrong, I'm sticking with Sadler until the end though. :(
  • I'd become a brad keselowski or Mark Martin fan if I weren't a jimmie johnson fan but do consider becoming a jimmie johnson fan think of the benefits of being the 3 time champ's fan you won't get booed when you're wearing any of the apparel or they won't tell you you are a fan of a loser.
