How about my Matt Crafton?

May be...

  • Good to see I'm not the only Crafton fan!!! GO MATT!!! FIRST TIME LEADING THE POINTS!!!
  • he's good just needs to be aware of the other drivers and keep his wheels down
  • i like him too
  • YES HE WILL HANG ON HE IS VERY!!!! GOOD DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!!
  • i like matt crafton,i hope he can hang on to it.crafton is a consistent top 5-10 truck every week so maybe he could do it.
  • I like Matt Crafton too, man! I think he can hang on. He has to win a race or too though. His truck's been good, just not the best when he needed it. By the way, I've liked Crafton as my favorite since I heard he had never won and watched my first truck race at Martinsville when Dennis Setzer won (last year, I think?) Crafton was 2nd.
  • I like that Matt Crafton..... Any Davey Allison fan is a friend of mine!!!!!!!!!!! He's not my favorite, but he's in my Top 5 for sure!!!!

Did you see the interview on SETUP they did, about his Davey Allison T-shirt that he wears to EVERY RACE!!!! That's AWESOME!!!!!
P.S. I hope so. I'd LOVE to see Matt drive that neon-yellow #88 truck to a championship!!!!!!!! He IS cool.

    DAVEY ALLISON ROCKS!!!!
  • It seems I'm the only one on Y!A who's favorite Truck driver is Matt Crafton (that's why I said "my" Matt Crafton) He's the points leader! Woo-hoo! Can he hang on to it? Obviously it'll be hard with Hornaday on his @$$ but still...I just love that Matt Crafton he's cool.
  • he had himself a truck capable of winning last night, but just feel short at the end.

note: i met your Matt Crafton driver three months ago at the new Menards store that just opened up. i got him to autograph my milwaukee mile truck series tickets.
i have a few pictures of him if you'd like.

  • Poll: On TNT broadcast who is you favorite announcer?

    May be...

  • TNT sucks. Last year they were terrible. But if I had to choose i'd choose... OR lol
  • Bill Weber, Kyle Petty or Wally Dallenbach Jr.?
  • I really was surprised how well Kyle Petty was at broadcasting. He knows alot about the cars and actually does a good job during the races.
  • I don't know yet. It depends on who can put a smile on my face, and still be on the subject. Either that or if they teach us anything. we'll see...
  • Kyle.
  • kyle it keeps him off the track he still is a great person but needs to stay as an announcer.
  • GO WALLY!

Just because I'm a fan of WALLY world! LOL!
  • I like Kyle Petty in the booth, he adds alittle attitude up there. The best part of TNT, NO Digger. I think Bill, Kyle and Wally do a great job, Wally gets on my nerves sometimes but I can handle it. Love your new avatar, Superdave.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I love all of them. I used to like Kyle petty, but it seems like he's become really bitter since he lost his ride. I like Wally and Bill. I don't think there's a more perfect voice for the summer series. If I had to choose one, it'd be Wally.
  • Wally for sure! I like the Wally's world segment. Does he still do that?webnews exchange

Is penske going to use saturns instead of dodges?

    May be...

  • dosen't matter...............whatever kurt drives he will find his way to the front.

wouldn't that be funny.........a saturn with a 358ci engine.800hp to the rear tires, dont think it could stay hooked up.
do u think the frame can hold it?
  • Who knows? We'll see, maybe! It would be ok with me to see Saturns on the track.
  • Saturn was a General Motors product, why not as long as they can be competitive. Dodges have not run that great this yr, yes they have a win with Kurt. One thing for sure Roger Penske is a smart man and if anybody can do it, he can. Not sure how quick he can put together a Saturn COT. I'm sure we will hear more about this topic.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • maybe or maybe not.It depends on whether or not Obama buys out NASCAR.

Thankyou Ford Motor Co for not selling out .
  • Yes, and neither Busch, nor Stremme want to drive them, so he hired Danica, and Milka as his new drivers..
  • That would be very cool Saturn's are a very good car
  • Thank you, Tim, for a real question!

I think he'll be using Dodges in the near future...but if he makes the Saturn brand successful...who knows?
  • I would think that it would be possible. I mean why not, Toyota's in and if I have Learned anything from Nascar it is to Expect the unexpected.

It really didn't take that long for Toyota to get in so it could happen down the road.
  • probably not. staurn doe'nt have a rACECAR
  • Penske could easily run with Saturns.

He could buy the rights to the new Dodge engine or use Chevrolet engines. All he has to do for the car is come up with a Saturn nose and change the nose and decals to make his Dodges change into Saturns.
  • I think the Captain is just taking advantage of the market. He probably bought Saturn cheap. (Cheap to him, not me. lol)
Saturns racing in NASCAR? Why not? I never thought I'd see Toyotas in NASCAR, but there they are.2005 air amsterdam best fare jfk march
  • Pocono qualifying today!?

    May be...

  • If they do get it in today Im going to go way way out on a limb and say Sam Hornish Jr.
  • I get to watch too! Look for kiDD, he says he's gonna be there. I got money on either Ryan Newman or Brian Vickers. I really feel like this is the place Vickers nabs that elusive first Red Bull win. Sunday or in July, I think it happens here or at one of the Michigan races. Maybe at Atlanta on Labor Day (booo, Southern 500 goes on labor day)
  • There is a good chance they will start by points on Sunday..
It rained in Pocono last night, and it's supposed to do the same today..
  • That's terrible.. Just when you don't have to be at work..
Thanx for choosing my answer.. ;-) Report Abuse
  • supposed to rain,so by points, if not look for Shrub
  • Who will sit on the pole Sunday?

I actually don't work today and get to watch! :-)
  • Its raining, and I do not think the will get qualifying in at all. But its suppose to be sunny on Sunday.. Trackside is on Speed right now, and I think qualifying is rained out.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • tony stewart because qualifying was rained out.
  • " GO JIMMIE GO "
  • Scott Speed will get the Poletargus tip 6
  • What is your take on Carl Long's comments about his suspension, and thoughts on the higher-up's in NASCAR?

    May be...

  • You summed up the situation pretty well I think. My biggest problem is how excessive the punishment seemed, in proportion to the infraction. Even with the high rulers of NASCAR only caring about bringing in more money, I just don't see how this helps them at all. If anything else it seems to be further hurting their image. Can't wait to see what the punishment is for the next time a driver breaks the rules. Is this the new standard, or does the punishment go up with each driver?
  • I agree with him...I don't think Brian France cares so much about the sport as he does just making money anyway he can from it. It's not like Carl Long was a big shot driver contending for wins every week.

As the realization that the National Stock Car Commission on Tuesday upheld the record 200-point, $200,000 penalty against him sunk in, Carl Long became increasingly frustrated. Frustration turned to anger. In minutes, he was livid. "Big Bill [France, NASCAR founder] and Bill Jr. ruled the sport like a father -- at the end of the day they took care of their family," Long said. "These guys don't care. They don't have any heart. Basically, it seems like they don't care about the sport, they just want to make a dollar. I truly have a sour taste of the management in our sport. They've forgotten the roots of how this sport was created, and who are the people buying the tickets, sitting in the stands. The people in the stands are me." Multiple calls to NASCAR for comment were not immediately returned. When Long had to change engines prior to the Sprint Showdown, NASCAR surveyed the first engine and determined it to be illegal. He was confident entering Tuesday's appeals hearing. He thought he'd go in, plead his case, and come out with nothing more than a revamped concept of the lucrative engine-building-and-selling business in NASCAR. Not so.
  • I have to agree with Carl. Even though his engine was only .001 bigger than it was supposed to be, the intention behind it was not one of a cheater. If it had been a Hendrick, Gibbs, Roush, or any other big name car then yes, NASCAR could have looked at it the way that they did because those teams have the funds to race new engines whenever they need to. If one of them had a newer engine that was the same size difference as Carl's then I would expect NASCAR to punish them accordingly. But an underfunded team simply rebuilding an already over-used race engine surely deserves a little more credit than what they gave to Carl. The least that they could have done was reduce the fine, it's not too hard to tell when a race team is barely making it when a 200 point loss doesn't worry them nearly as bad a $200,000 fine.
  • The villain in this is the engine builder E. E. He sold that engine knowing it was oversize or too close to the maximum to remain legal with wear or damage. He did it knowing Carl would never place high enough to get checked. For those that say .001 could have been a mistake don't understand the displacement rule.

The cubic inch spec for Nascar is 350. They are allowed up to 358 maximum including wear, overheating, temperature and tool/gage variances. That is the absolute maximum after a race, not the displacement they start at. The garage understands this, no one has been caught oversize in 10 years because they understand it.

    E. E. certainly understands it too.

I wish Carl had no penalties. Too bad E. E. can't be penalized.
  • excuse my terminology, but NASCAR is run like the Nazis when it comes to penalizing some of these guys for what they're doing. I am amazed how NASCAR can inspect these cars so thoroughly. I appreciate when car builders push the limits, but at the same time I just cringe when NASCAR hands down the guilty verdict.
  • The penalty in view of how bad the infraction was seems excessive, especially since Long and his team didn't personally create the infraction. NASCAR took a baseball bat to the knees of one of the small fish (I know fish don't have knees, it's a metaphor). Seems that they are forgetting that a large percentage of the fan base are small fish and can identify with Long and this kind of thing is a big turn off. The economy is in the crapper and NASCAR's lack of compassion looks like just one more example of how the little guy just doesn't matter...and they wonder why viewer numbers are down.
  • Although Parody shouldn't play a part in rules infractions you have to have a heart for Carl. It takes a lot just to qualify for a race and the fine outweighed the infraction especially for an All Star shootout that only had half the stands at Charlotte filled. Brian France has effed up everything he has touched just like Kelly Earnhardt(slash) Elledge yet in his world he thinks everything is peaches and cream. I like what Carl said and I agree. If he really wants to listen to the fans he needs to listen more often.
  • Whether or not he was a threat to win doesn't excuse the fact that he broke a rule that has no gray area and NASCAR has always said don't break it.

Where would you draw the line as to where they suck enough to not follow the rules? Micheal Waltrip isn't a treat to win can he cheat? What about someone like Robby Gordon who doesn't run very well on ovals but is always a threat on road courses. Can he cheat on 1 but not the other?

Making the rule book black and white is the most fair. You get rid of the fans crying that NASCAR plays favorites when their driver gets a penalty but someone else didn't.

I'd say suspend him from driving, cut the fine, and let him go back to his normal NASCAR job.
  • i think it stinks. karl iz a guud driver and person. may be dale jr culd take up a collection for him at WR and help him get on his foots.
  • I really have to agree with Mr. Long, I think the fine and suspension is way out of line for the Infraction that he committed.

But then again we are talking about the France Family, they Rule Nascar with an Iron Fist, and they figure they can do anything and change the Rules to suit themselves any time they want.

Which they have done on many an occasion, and we as Fans are supposed to just sit back and say and do nothing.
  • ...NASCAR is after the dollar.Every driver in the series is a threat to the high dollar teams. The Mayfields and Longs are little fish but in theory coulds bump a major team out of the field, hence the top 35 B.S.
Carl was right and is getting the "purple shaft with barb wire crosses"
Did he break a rule , Yes.
Did he maliciously do it, I don't think so,why give a "oversize engine" to NASCAR if you KNOW it is illegal.
I think every engine should be checked before and after the race. but hey only certain ones are checked at random.
But I basically agree with him and his thoughts.
  • Nascar has forgetten it's roots. It's the little guy that got them to where they are today.

They could have easily sent a message by changing the fine to one dollar and still take the points. Why do they have to take 200 grand from someone that has nothing?

I, as a Nascar fan am disappointed. I thought better of Nascar than to hurt the little guy this bad. I realize that rules are rules and since they were caught in the wrong they should punished...but they just put the man out of the racing business.blue gps reciever tooth

  • Hello.todays furniture advantage
  • How well does your driver do at Pocono?

    May be...

  • My driver Jeff Gordon, has more than a few wins here. Hope he is able to get another one this weekend and gain some more bonus points for the chase.
  • Tony is so so good there , I hope he has a great week there!!!!!!!!!
  • Brian Vickers has a Few Top 5's Sprinkled here.
Scott Speed has 2 poles and 2 runner ups here in the ARCA series

I feel they'll do great this Sunday!
  • In the past 10 years, Junior has raced there 18 times. 5 top fives, 6 top tens, avg. start 15, avg. finish 16.

I think he will do better than last week. I'm hoping he doesn't get involved in a wreck because I really want to see if the #88 team continues to get better. Hoping for a top 5.
  • and how well do you think he will do this weekend?
  • 4 Wins,15 top 5's,22 top 10's,average finish 10.3. He does alright there.

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • My favorite nascar driver, Robby, does not do too well at Pocono. I hope he will do well this weekend if he does not crash or get caught up in a crash.
  • Clint Bowyer, on average, flat out sucks at Pocono, but that's mainly because his performances have been marred by bad luck. However, judging by his recent mile and a half performance, I say he will finish inside the top 30... that's as vague as I can be.
  • Better than anyone else who's raced here, without actually ever winning. Karl has the stats.

Anything less than a top 5 would be a disappointment. A win would be the greatest thing about my weekend.
  • I became Kyle's fan after watching him start in the back at Pocono in 2005, and finish 4th.
    He was very impressive.

    He's sucked there ever since.
Can't be a whole lot worse than last weekend I suppose.
  • Let's just say Reed and Pocono don't quite see eye to eye yet
  • Out of 44 starts, he has never won, but has 19 top 5's and 31 top 10's.

I ehope gets that win, but a top 5 will do him well in the points standings.
  • Jeff Gordon usually does good there. This weekend could be different with the back problems he is having just have to wait and see.
  • In 10 races, Kasey has a 16.6 place average finishing position, and most of his bad finishes came because the car just wasn't fast enough to stay on the lead lap.

But, because the past 2 races at Pocono have been a win and a top 10, and the 9 team has shown a lot of promise the past couple of weeks, I think he's going to have at least a top 10 this weekend.
  • In 20 starts, not one DNF, that says a lot.
  • When someone gives him a chance in a car thats got a motor, Top 5
  • 5 top 5's there, but no wins. :( Idk though DALE JR. RULES 88 Amp Energy/ National Guardhow to prioritize your life

    Do Dale Earnhardt Junior's fans?

    May be...

  • geting tired of the same question. as for jr sorry I don't!
  • I get tired of answering these stupid questions.
  • ever get tired of making lame excuses for him?
  • They've been making them for 10 years now, so it's almost second nature...they don't even know they are making excuses.
  • Do you ever get tired of trying to insult people?

Junior fans, as far as I know, aren't the ones making up lame excuses. If you pay attention at all, you'll notice it's the media making guesses as to the trouble he's having. Real fans stick by their driver, no matter what, through thick and thin, and it's people like you who seem to have a hard time grasping that concept.
  • That's what makes them FANS. They will stand by their driver no matter how lame their excuses are.

I can't even come up with a LAME excuse for Paul Menard, yet still pull for him =3
  • JR nation likes to be in the top 25 makes they day.
  • do you ever get tired of being obsessed with him?
  • I see the anti-Junior people making up more excuses than the fans. Then you guys attribute the excuses to us. Why do the non-fans feel they have to continue bashing Junior and his fans?
  • I don't think I make lame excuses for JR. If he, or any other top driver, can't be competative it is usually the car set-up. What else can you say?
  • ~ i dont, i pride myself after george bush the biggest excuse maker in the world~
  • What did Junior fans do to you?
  • He is the result of his fathers' fame/ There's not really much else to explain.
  • Do your parents ever get tired of making lame excuses for you, or you that dude from the Alltel ads? You know the one "and my mother's ashamed of me and she says I'm half troll".

  • Nascar Nation... ?

    May be...

  • It all depends on whether RPM can be come competitive enough. Hopefully in 3-5 yrs, Reed is young so there is time, he has the potential thats for sure... Happy birthday Terry-Lynn.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I can't see him ever becoming a champ if he stays with RPM but who knows they may turn things around and surprise me :)

    HAPPY B-DAY TERRY-LYNN :)
  • Within 4 or 5 years

    Happy Birthday, Terry-Lynn!
  • RPM is using the new engines.. That should help!!

    Happy Birthday Terry-Lynn!!
  • Not anytime soon! RPM needs a lot of work!
  • As soon as RPM gets out of the PAST....

    Happy b-day Terry-Lynn!!!!!
  • Reed will have to get in a car better than anything he has ever driven. The Dodges have never been up to par with the other makes. Since every champion since 2000 has been with Gibbs, Roush, or Hendrick, if Reed starts to drive with one of those teams he will have a shot at the championship. If he continues driving Dodge, I don't think he will ever win it. I really like him as he is from my home state like Bill Elliott and David Ragan. Happy birthday Terry-Lynn!
  • Maybe in a couple of years. Happy Birthday Terry-Lynn may you have many more!!
  • .....Not soon enough,His Air Force sponsorship makes him one of my dark horse favorites.
    I'd say 3 years.
    Happy Birthday y'all.
  • Next year.

    Happy Birthday Terry!!
  • As soon as the RPM engine shop has a dramatic turnaround.

Happy birthday, Terry-Lynn!!!! Many happy returns!
  • I am hoping soon but with crap equipment that's kinda hard.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes :)
  • Hmm..for TL's sake, I hope it's soon.

    Happy birthday Terry-Lynn.
  • Nice pic, Prez. Sorry, but Reed will never win a championship. Happy Birthday Terry-Lynn!
  • If RPM could get some stuff figured out team & engine wise going he should hopefully in the next 5 years.

    Happy Birthday Terry-Lynn! :)
  • How soon before Reed Sorenson contends for a championship?

Today is Terry-Lynn's birthday, can we all wish her a happy birthday? :)
  • With in the next 3 years '

    Happy Birthday Terry- Lynn!!
  • not any time soon.

Happy Birthday to Terry-Lynn. I hope that you a great day.
  • Well, he did ok at Dover, but its a little soon to talk championship. But it would be nice to see the 43 in victory lane again.

    Happy happy birthday, Terry-Lynn!
  • 2011? 2012? Hard to say with Reed. I honestly don't think he will contend for any championships, but it'd be cool to see!

    Happy birthday Terry-Lynn!!! =)
  • We need for him to get his first win before we can get him in contention but i know that we won't be waiting too much longer. He is too talented not to win.

    Happy Birthday Terry- Lynn!!
  • Maybe in a few years...he's doing better. Just wanted to be realistic.

    Like my song:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERRY LYYYYYYYYYYN
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.

ok I will stop now. lol
    Have a good one.
  • I think within the 3-5 years we will see him fighting for the Championship.

  • Does everyone know why NASCAR drivers are participating at this charity race at Eldora?

    May be...

  • Do you know why the drivers are participating? Are you one of the lucky people who are attending this race at Rossburg, Ohio?

Some of the drivers who will be present are Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Clint Boyer, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and more............. Carl Edwards.................

This is the 5th annual event to raise money for charity. This year's charity is for the severly injured military, their families, and fallen heros, and their families. Prelude to the Dream takes place on Wed., June 3. 7 pm ET and 4 pm PT on HBO.

    For more info check out:
    http://www.hbo.come/events/prelude/

Now, if anyone thinks this is an inappropriate question, please contact me at my email address, OK? Let's talk about it first. I would do that for you. Please respect my wishes. I would respect yours. Thanks!
  • I think it's because Tony Stewart owns the track.
  • The drivers do a lot of things for lot of charities. This is no different. Yes, I am going. I took my dad last year, and it was pretty cool, so I'm dragging him back this year. I think that the drivers are about the coolest athletes around because they have not forgotten that they are lucky enough to be doing what they love and making a highly decent living at it. They give back a lot to different causes as well as their communities (both where they came from and where they now live). Some of the drivers like Kasey, Carl and Tony are also big dirt track enthusiasts. Anyways, it is a great cause and lot of fun for both the drivers and the viewers.

  • Who is the most passive NASCAR driver in 2009?

    May be...

  • Paul Menard
  • Probably not gonna be a popular answer, but Mark Martin.
If he were a bit more aggressive, he'd be a champion by now.
  • Truex, maybe? You never hear anything out of the guy. He doesn't seem to take any chances.

Mark Martin has been a passive driver in the past, lurking around in the top 15 until the end of the race, but it looks like he's changed his strategy--I think he's racing a lot harder now.
  • I have to agree with Winter Glory. Mark has always been a hard charger but he seems to move aside a lot when others are running faster. Which hardly ever works out for him.
  • I going with Mark Martin as well
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr
  • Howdy Doody, we might report you for not answering.

I have to say that Stewart's been quiet, but Martin Truex has done nothing. He led at Darlington and won the pole for Daytona. Anything else? Not really.
  • Reed Sorenson.........Somebody get that boy a backbone
  • i'm afraid to answwer because I might get reported
  • Mark Martin.

  • Do you like the new proposed rule for double file restarts and getting a lap back by not pitting?

    May be...

  • I honestly think It's a great idea both ways. Take a look at how often this year more then half the field ends up being a lap+ down, I think it will make for more strategy and more exciting races which = more fans.
  • I want to see it in action. Right now I don't think its a good idea for short tracks or road courses, but for Pocono, Michigan, Daytona I think its a great test session. I'd be worried about Infineon and New Hampshire coming up though...
  • Oddly enough the lap back thing is not only interesting, but the ability to do that is much closer to real racing, than the current rules..
Let me explain.. I think the pit road rules started in 1990-91, speed limits, and such, the pits being closed until the pace car picks up the leader.. Before that a car in turn three, could dive into the pits, get his service, and get back out, and make up an entire lap, when a caution came out.. When the cars pitted under the caution, a lap down car could get two tires, and beat the leader out, and get his lap back.. Unless the leader only took two.. lol It created so many different possibilities regarding the outcome.. Imagine a race that the leader is a quarter lap ahead, caution comes out as he comes to turn four.. The second place car jumps into the pits, but the leader has already past them.. Now here is the choice.. If the leader pits, he will be the last car on the lead lap, if doesn't, and keeps the lead, he will have to pit sooner than the others.. In other words, instead of the the race stopping while everyone gets even, then starting again (face it, they gather the cars up for pit stops, and then say ready, set, go so we can see the crews race each other.. That is dumb, and dangerous), we let them pit the first time by the pit.. The cars will be more separated (safety), and there will be room on pit road because they are not all together.. Then they could get rid of the "lucky dog", and eliminate two caution laps.. The restart should be as it is, or just single file.. You don't want to have guys position themselves in second place, because it gives them an advantage at a particular track.. You also would have to change the rule about passing before the line on the outside.. Think about it.. The leader is on the inside, and that line is passing the outside.. What does the third place guy do?? Not pass the second place car?? That would be the same as single file.. The guys on the outside could do what they wanted.. It's racing.. No need to let guys keep catching up to generate excitement because you don't trust the sport to seek it's own level, the natural flow of things will do that... It worked in the past..
  • I'm all for the double file thing but why are they including cars a lap down can get it back by not pitting on a caution? 10 or 15 cars all getting their lap back by staying out?
  • I know I'm in the minority but I was hoping we wouldn't see double file restarts. This sounds like a knee jerk reaction to recent drops in ratings. I'm tired of silly rules changes designed to add excitement. The sport is constantly being dumbed down for the sake of "entertainment". I'm so disappointed. What's next? -Some races run clockwise around the track?! How about 3 wide restarts while we're at it? Or putting the leader in the back of the pack with 50 to go? Save the silliness for the All Star race.
  • Maybe I am just getting old but I liked it better the way it use to be.
Now days we all are to worried about safety. It is racing for heaven sakes.
I liked it when we had double file racing. When the leaders lined up on the inside, When we raced back to the yellow, I even liked it when we came down pit road with no speed limit (maybe that might be a bit much now days) I liked it when you worked a whole season to win a championship , now days you work all season to have a huge lead in the points and then start the chase in 2nd place(what kind of deal is that) I liked it better when drivers actually had personalities.I liked it better when the race cars actually looked like the cars we could purchase from a dealership. Remember the days?
Now days it is all about the money. It is all about not offending Jr. Nation and screwing with the system and the core fans that have been with them over the years. Nascar has forgotten its core fans, the ones who have stayed with them over the years and have traded us for a new wave of fans and money and now they are worried
  • I like it in the lower series, the Camping World East and West series. It gives them their own identity, makes them different from their Big Brother series'. The best way to do this, I think, is to give the leaders the preferred line on the restart, depending on the track, it could be the outside or the inside. Might be a little confusing, but it puts the slower cars out of the leader's way when he needs to get by.
  • See that's why NASCAR officials have a bad image. You have idiots in charge of making rules. I love the double file restarts and lap traffic to the back. That's great.

    But .......

Let's say half of the field is down a lap in a hypothetical situation and a caution comes out. Well it's simple for the ones a lap down. Now all they have to do is stay out and get their lap back ... right? Then they will still need to pit right? So what happens is they will have to wreck someone in order to get to pit.

My point is this. I sounds like the rule is going to breed more cautions. Cautions do give drivers time to work on cars but they are less entertaining for the fans.

However it does have it's good points I guess. It does make up for an unfair situation of a driver going down a lap because he's on pit road when a caution comes out.

I really would have liked to see them just increase the number of drivers eligible for the lucky dog.
    ------

Also usually the reason that drivers are a lap down to begin with is because they need to pit and make changes. Now it is like they have to sacrifice a pit stop just to get a lap back. It doesn't make sense. It's like a catch 22 situation.
  • Big time overkill.

It feels like NASCAR is scared about something...changing major rules mid season. It kinda takes away yet more tradition from the sport. They should really make big decisions such as these at the beginning of the season, not in middle of it when it can change the way the entire season is approached from here on out.halo2 weapon combos

    1. Kyle Busch
    2. Tony Stewart
    3. Greg Biffle
    4. Mark Martin (I agree with you on this one. Certainly)
    5. Jeff Gordon (See, he's on there! Even though I hate him)
    6. Matt Kenseth
    7. Denny Hamlin
    8. Kurt Busch
    9. Carl Edwards
    10. Jimmie Johnson
Just misses: Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, David Reutimann, Brian Vickers.
EDITED: Where would the #48 Hendrick chevy be without Chad Knaus?
I change my #10 from Jimmie to Brian Vickers. Jimmie falls to Vickers' spot.

  • Criteria: I’m NOT looking for the following: Potential, Raw Talent, Fan Friendliness, Personal Favorites, Past Accomplishments (unless it’s someone that can still deliver). I’m also not interested in: “If so and so were just on a different team, then…..”

Bottom Line: The 10 drivers today who represent the best that NASCAR Sprint Cup racing has to offer. The NASCAR Category of Yahoo Answers has a lot of knowledgeable fans and I am really interested in their sincere opinions on who they feel represent the cream of the sport.

My Picks: (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. )
Top 9 Tony Stewart, Mark Martin (still), Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle, Matt Kennseth, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson

Okay that took 30 seconds, but I’m struggling with #10: Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin, Dale Jr & Kasey Kahne are on my short list. I almost put Ryan Newman on the short list, but I need to see a whole season from him.
  • I'm not really sure what you're asking.. The top ten drivers in NASCAR?? Based on what?? This year?? Over all?? Not in order..
Johnson, Gordon, Edwards, Kenseth, Harvick, Burton, Montoya, Reutimann, Stewart, Newman..
If you just want this year, we would be having a very small field for the Chase.. The only ones to earn it so far, are Gorden Johnson, Stewart, Kenseth, and Martin..
  • Tony Stewart
    Brad Keselowski
    Joey Logano
    AJ Allmendinger
    Max Papis
    Brian Vickers
    Carl Edwards
    Jamie McMurray
    Dave Blaney
Sterling Marlin or Mike Bliss, whoever's the official McCouskee team dude.
  • Jeff Gordon
    Kasey Kahne
    Jimmy Johnson
    Tony Stewart
    Brian Vickers
    Carl Edwards
    Kyle Busch
    Kurt Busch
    Matt Kennesth
    Joey Logano
  • Brian Vickers
    Scott Speed
    Jeff Burton
    Kevin Harvick
    David Reutimann
    Marcos Ambrose
    AJ Allmendinger
    Casey Mears
    Jimmie Johnson
    Jeff Gordon
  • Kenseth, Biffle, Edwards, Stewart, Johnson, Kyle Busch,Jeff Gordon,Newman,Martin
  • Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Brian Vickers, Juan Montoya, Kasey Kahne, and finally David Reutimann
  • Top 3- Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards because if their cars are running, you can never count them out. Solid performers- Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton. It really hurts me to leave Kasey Kahne out, but because of the rotten cars they have given him for most of the season, I cannot include him. We are seeing a marked improvement over the last couple of races. But since you qualify it with so far this season without changes needed or sentimentality, I'm stuck.
  • 1. Kyle Busch - Raw Talent and potential...personal favorite
    2. Juan Pablo Montoya - Aggressiveness
    3. Kurt Busch - Dodge driver
    4. Carl Edwards - Very talented, can win in anything (Raw talent)
    5. Jeff Gordon - Popularity, and a legend
    6. Jimmie Johnson - 3x champion in a row
    7. Greg Biffle - Can drive a loose race car (talent)
    8. Denny Hamlin - Raw Talent, Potential
    9. Tony Stewart - Same as Edwards
    10. Mark Martin - Old man still can win, and it's fun to see him against the younger guys
  • that's so cute!

  • Why do NASCAR haters even come in here?

    May be...

  • ICE and all of his alter egos would be the best person(s) to answer that question.
  • Because their mothers aren't at home to monitor their internet use?
  • Tom P that was funny Yahoo Terrorist lol...but it's true!
  • they are all Democrats .. with an idiot President. and they thought Bush ( not Busch ) was bad.. they in for a Ride..
  • so they may hate us on the internet, but really- what other sport can you throw 160k people together and no fights. Nascar Nation is 2nd to none.
  • Its either because school is out and playing on mom & dads computer while they are at work. Or they need adjustments to their meds to make their split personalities stay in check.
  • I dont know, They claim to hate Nascar but yet come on here to talk about them all the time. Whether they talk good or bad about Nascar they still come on here to talk about Nascar. If they hate the sport so much why dont they just drop it and keep it to themselves!!!
  • Because they get bored after 6hrs straight of World Of Warcraft.
  • I know! Some dude named Obama started coming in here and trashing us earlier today. I hate it! Stupid people! Stay out of our section! We don't come into your section and call you names. I hope YA can do something about this.
  • Small minded individuals who would not dare say anything face to face.

But, it is very easy to be a Yahoo Terrorist.
  • Where else would a NASCAR hater find a ready made AUDIENCE?
I would like t say ignore them but we don't. Hate is such an uggly word. If it were any other sport, we would be in their catagory.
  • I do not see the trash you are talking about in here? Some people don't like some of the drivers but that is normal.
  • Nothing better to do I guess. No life.
  • I think people come and trash NASCAR because they don’t understand it, in addition to being super immature and have way too much time on their hands.
  • Of course, I'm new to the site, so I don't know about the haters here. However, I find that face-to-face people that don't like NASCAR just don't get it. A lot think that we're just country bumpkins that get a thrill seeing a wreck and don't see appeal in driving in a circle for four hours. The don't understand what goes into it - endurance, skill of the driver, skill of the pit crew, stategy on the track and in the pits, alliance for owner teams, car make or individual drivers. It's a sport unlike any other and some people just think it's 43 cars driving in a circle and wasting gas and time.
  • I am kinda new in here but it seems that people like to come in here and trash our sport.............what gives???
  • Love hurts, They hate us.
  • What better place to spew their bile? They want a reaction, and they're not going to get one by posting in other categories that might agree with their views.340 exhaust
  • What is Dale Jr.'s problem?

    May be...

  • Yeah, he was on a lot yesterday. He didn't do too badly. He drove well and was happy with his car for a good part of the race. He had a new crew chief, his third in the week. Me and my fiance came to the conclusion that he needs a new crew chief every week to pat him on the head and tell him he's doing good. I think it was DW who said during the race that having a new cheer leader seemed to be helping, and it did. After report cards came out last week, Mr. Hendrick may have given him a foot up the back side too, since they said he was the one dragging the team down and lowered their grade. (They got an A instead of an A+) Hopefully he'll keep up what he did at Dover.
  • Yeah your for sure not watching the same Dover race I was watching..damn near the whole pre race show was about him and they interviewed him before and after the race...he ran well with the new guy..he just made too many adjustments for him to win the race!
  • he did rather well yesterday and while he is going through all this crew chief stuff and what is wrong with Jr questioning by the media and nascar sweating losing the cash cow, I wonder how many feel bad that they have applied so much pressure to this man that he told Smoke he wished he could change his name. It is totally unfair to expect so much from someone just based on a name. Give him a break!
  • he's a loser
  • where you looking @ Kyle Busch Maybe ( no offenise to winter glory ) jr got 12th i know it aint a top 10 or 5 but its better then 40th
  • What race were you watching he was up to 3rd place and ran in the top 10 for a while. Its gonna take a few races to work everything out with the new crew chief, he finished 12th, which was a heck of a lot better than he finished in the 600 last week. He has a new crew chief, and things are gonna get a lot better.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • He made it up to third and then they made a bad adjustment and Dale had to pit a couple of times which dropped him back to like 16th I believe and then he raced back to 12th. The new crew chief is really just gathering notes. It will take a few races before they make any noticeable improvements.
  • His existence.
  • I think he did a lot better at Dover than he has done in a while, and maybe when the dust settles he will be in the top ten more than he has been.
Don't know why you missed most of the race, but it seemed to me he did well Yesterday, better than the week before.
And I'm not a real big Junior fan, but I was Impressed with how he ran, and the inter action he had with the pits and his crew chief.
  • I didn't really see a problem yesterday, maybe that bird nest on your Satellite dish was the problem, jk.

    v
  • What is his problem? In yesterdays race I didn't even see him but maybe once. Why is he doing so bad? What's his excuse?
  • What race were you watching? He ran as high as 3rd and finished 12th.
  • Do WHAT!? hahaha.... hmmmm, were you watching the Dover race? Seems his problems are turning around.
  • This is a massive improvement for Jr...usually finishes out of sight..at least he found his pit..proud of the boy for that...
  • dude dale jr was running in the top 5 and finished 12th.the whole race was pretty much focused on how he would do and in my opinion he done great.go 88
  • He didn't do awful. Finished 12th and ran in the top 10 for a good portion of the day.

I still believe that whatever his problem is, he is a part of it.
  • No problem. I am sure he is happy with 12th compared to what he was finishing before. Its ONE race. There will be more.
  • Ha Ha............He finished 12th with a brand new crew chief............Welcome to NASCAR!!! A great improvement!!!!!
  • okay, so it wasn't his Jr's past record finishes at Dover with a win, four top-five finishes and seven top-10s.....but yeah after his latest running streak...12th is an awesome change for the better!

Were you watchin the Dover race?
  • He ran his best race in a while. I thought there was more than enough coverage of him.

    GO 24!!!!
  • He got a top 15 finish with his new crew chief...feel the change?
He got some 70+ top 15's with Tony Jr.

I didn't think he did "bad"
    Don't think he did "great"

  • Edwards to Yates??????

    May be...

  • I wouldn't doubt it it's not a big secret that Carl doesn't really get along with his Roush team mates. I think any team would be lucky and happy to get him.
  • I can actually see that happening. There is something off in the chemistry between Roush's top-3 drivers (Edwards, Kenseth, Biffle). We have seen them tangle time-and-time again on AND off the track, with yet another (minor) incident between the #16 & #99 today at Dover. There doesn't seem to be a real sense of give-and-take teamwork at Roush like you see over at HMS. Then you have the "other" Roush drivers (McMurray and Ragan) who kinda seem lost in the mix at times. It wouldn't surprise me to see The Cat In The Hat shake things up just a bit in hopes of finding that team chemistry that isn't there right now.
  • Nope will not happen...
  • Dw was saying that he expects jamie and another big roush driver to go to yates and then have another car to do something with, young guy or free agent. What do you think about this?
  • I don't think that will happen. Carl hasn't been doing as great as last year, but he is very talented and marketable. I don't see why Roush would fire him. Plus, Edwards is signed thru 2011 anyway. McMurray and Ragan are the only Roush drivers that have contracts ending this year, so I'm sure either one of them will go to Yates.
  • Open season on free agents.

I think they need to open it up to more smaller teams.
  • I can see cousin Carl going to Yates..... I just don't imagine him in a different car though. Plus, Yates now only has one driver since Travis Kvapil's team went belly up. both those drivers aren't that good. Now they just have Paul Menard, plus Paul isn't that good either.
Personally I think Carl should go there before Yates itself is bankrupt.

I can see Jamie Mac going there too because I think he is about to get the Axe from Jack Roush.
  • Normally I would say no never going to happen, but after the last few years with Jr going to HMS and Stewart Leaving Gibbs I would say anything is possible.
  • That would be cool Edwards and Jamie to Yates.Maybe that would help out Yates racing to get back on there feet.
  • I wouldnt put a whole lot of stock in what DW says. He doesnt remember what he said the previous lap much less the status of a driver or team. Yates is a Roush satelite team just like Stewart/Haas-HMS. So if it does happen its not a biggie.
  • Jamie's definitely gone, no doubt about that. He sucks. Stewart-Haas is essentially part of Hendrick and Yates is essentially part of Roush. This is how more drivers are added to teams. McMurray may go to Yates and drive basically a Roush ford, but I don't believe Edwards will leave the name Roush Racing. That would stir up too much. David Ragan might move over or they could boot Menard. They could always just start another team on the Yates side for a driver like Erik Darnell. Roush Racing is doing just fine with The Biff, Kenseth, and Edwards all in the chase right now.
  • I think that would be the biggest mistake of his life.
  • Roush has to get down to 4 cars for next year so someone has to leave. Since Yates is pretty much a satellite team to Roush it makes sense that someone would go. That way Roush still has the same number of cars to get data from to help them keep up with Hendrick and his satellite teams. Honestly it would change nothing.resetting odometer

Did the Dover Nascar track pit road get changed in the last year?

    May be...

  • Why yes i think it did .
  • Yes, it was widened and alittle bit longer so we had 43 pit stalls today. Your blue deuce looked pretty good today.

    Go Dale Jr & HMS
  • I don't think so.

    Ooopsie, yes it was.

I had a coyote skull once.
  • They made them 4 feet longer and 4 feet wider.
  • Yes, it did. And my skull hurts. : )

  • I dont like skulls.
  • yes it was
  • yes it did...........was widened and lenghtened to allow a 43rd pit stallmb upgrade
  • Did any of you actuall think that JR's crew chief made this much difference?

    May be...

  • TBone you can hate all you want to but as a Jr. fan I will stick with him. I suppose you are a fair-weather fan.
Jr. may not win many races this year with a new crew chief but by god I will not give up on him.
Contrary to popluar opinion Jr. can drive a race car.
TBone hate to tell you but I am NOT watching Fox, I still stand with what I said.
You must be a Baby Bush fan.
  • Yes, I think it made a huge difference and we will see a different Dale Jr. in the coming races.
  • He's 219 points or so out of 12th...He's not making the chase, there are too many better drivers ahead of him that will fight for it.

Jr. drove no better today than any other week. It's just that his crew chief was a lot smarter than Eury Jr. and knew that when Jr. was in 30th spot early in the race (like he was a lot with Eury Jr.) that if they pitted and only took two tires he could gain a lot of spots. Well, that's what they did, and it was a smart call. Once Jr. was up in the top 10 it's a lot easier to hold your position than pass that many cars on the race track. It looks like he might benefit in the short run at least by having a smarter crew chief who is willing to take more risks.

So he got up there on pit road, which is probably a call that Eury Jr. would have thought to risky to make.

And he only finished 12th, if he really is going to have a shot at making the chase he better start reeling off a few top 3s with no wrecks or anything like that up until the chase begins. But honestly, after looking at all the drivers ahead of him in points right now, it doesn't look like he has much of a shot. If he runs consistent every week and finishes 12th each time out, he'll probably end up about 14th or 15th when the chase starts...he started fading towards the end of the race again this week, like normal...maybe he wears out to quick and should work out more.

Oh, and since Rick Hendrick changed half Jr's team around and gave Jr. control of some engineers, he should start winning races...if he has what it takes, everything else is there.

Jr. gave a great interview today, he is a realist, some of his fans should try his approach.
  • HMS made more changes than just the crew chief in this deal, in the shops with engineers, etc. but it does need to be pointed out that the crew chief change was Wednesday and that Jr. runs pretty good at Dover. It is far too early to determine anything 4 days after the change.
  • I think the communication is better, I do not expect miracles in one race, The main thing is he has been able to actually get close to the front and have a car that he can drive. Its gonna take a couple races, but he's not in 40th place this weekend for sure. I think Lance has been pretty good, has a positive attitude and can be a pretty good cheer leader up there on the box and motivate the driver, that was what Tony Jr could not do..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Wow, changes that actually improve a car. Whodathunk? I'm happy that Jr is doing well, and I'm happy that he's actually racing. Win or lose, I think this is a big improvement.
  • A 12th place finish 4 days after a crew chief change is pretty phenominal. I have thought all along that Tony Eury Jr just never got the COT and was unable to make proper changes. Look out, I think the #88 crew is getting ready to "bust a move!!"
  • Yes it does make a difference. So far during Dover he has made small changes and done good. The last change he made didnt work and he started falling back. He also came in and pitted again which put him bacck around 15.

I've been keeping up with the lap times. Pretty much most of the race the cars in front run about 145 and then after a long run drop off to about 141 mph. Dale Jr's car got up to about 144 mph and then they made a bad adjustment and had to repit after the Robby Gordon wreck. He had been running 142 on restarts after fresh tires.

The crew chief that is sitting in so far seems to be making decent changes but shouldn't be expected to be to be perfect in one race. Now they are back down to running 140 mph so they made a change for the worse.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/cup/foxT...
  • I've been listening to his scanner all race long. What a difference! I mean, it's like night and day. There is almost constant chatter going on about how the car is running, and the changes to the car have made it better. Dale Jr. said it himself. He said the changes have been real good. He seems to be in a better mood too. He's been real positive on the radio. There is encouragement going both ways. It's a great thing to hear.

It's too early to tell how the rest of the year will play out, but this is encouraging. Rick made the right decision.
  • You're the type of Jr fan we like to make fun of. He had one decent run of like 20 laps, gained about 10 spots because of a caution during green flag stops and two positions in the pits. Wow! Like he cured cancer. Sheesh! If Tony Jr made the call to pit just now you'd want his head on a platter.

Knew that would rile up someone. Shirley is the winner. I stand by my assessment. No change. Just a lot of radio chatter and Fox saying what you want to hear and even they can't hold back now.
  • WAAAAHHHH!!! Now that Junior has a new crew chief, he'll start winning again, WAAAAAAHHHH!!!

    It won't be any difference.
  • I didn't really like Eury but, wow, I had no idea he was holding JR back like this.

Is this real or is it just today. I mean do you think he is going to turn it around now and make the chase or is he still way to far out to make it.

I'm not being literal here. I know he can make it mathematically but that's not how it really works as you know.

I hope this makes for a whole new year for Dale JR, how about you?
  • The anti-junior crowd is going to make the same comments regardless of how Dale does. They assumed he would run 40th again. He actually did ok, and they still have the same complaints. If Jr. continues to run better now, they will still have just as many excuses as Junior fans.
  • I think it's a combination of two things.

A new crew chief and Jr. usually does well on short tracks.

I hope this starts a run for him.
  • I have been a Jr. fan since he started racing, and until now the only time he ran good was when the car was good right off the truck. Eury was unable to make the car better. Everyone has started saying Jr. is not that great of a driver, but if you look at the way the car drove last week at Charlotte, you could tell he could not race because the car handled so bad. I think the problem has not been with Jr's driving, but the way the car has been handling, and I don't think Jr. was making the changes. Now that he has a proven good crew chief, he should start making progress. He might not make the chase, but he should be on the right track for next year. I don't know why so many Jr. fans have been so quick to jump off the bandwagon. There are several good drivers having terrible years i.e. Kevin Harvick. No one has been saying how bad a driver he is. They have only said how much bad luck he has had. We will see how this change helps or hurts things, but I am excited about the possibilities.
  • fortunately I had the opportunity to read your "additional details" before I answered your question. because it just shows you were being sarcastic in a negative manner. And then you have the guts to say it's the same ol same old why you don't come in here, yet your pulling the same old same old crap that the real users don't like to put up with. Well thanks for creating yourself the situation for the same old same old, but this time you just exploited your negative, sarcastic, insulting point of view. It doesn't mean I can't agree with you, but I am not on that level to think or make decisions speculated on a negative way of thinking. But obviously you were surprised when Junior was running in third position, and if you were watching the race with anyone, there would have been a lame conversation and a feeling of negativity. Just for you, let's be all dark, shallow, and negative, and say "No Juniors crewchief doesn't make a difference"
    It's Busch not Bush
Have fun picking your best answer
  • Jr. is currently struggling on this run. The only time he can drive a car is when the car is absolutely perfect.

The only reason he got way up high in today's race is because that one caution came out when everyone was in the pits and he had yet to pit. Otherwise he was close to getting lapped once again. He got lucky to get his car way up there, but hey, it worked.

Really no one can say there was much if any improvement.audi a3 convertible
  • The best way to drift?

    May be...

  • You wont be able to drift in a FWD car... the Accord is Front Wheel Drive...

You can drift with any RWD car... as long as you can make the tires aqueel a little bit, it will drift but if you want a real drifting experience... trade in your Accord and get a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo...
  • If you can't spin the rear wheels, drifting becomes impossible, which is why front wheel drive cars can't drift. Around here the most popular drift car is a Nissan 240 SX. Many days drift competitions look like Nissan dealerships. No matter what you still need a decent amount of horsepower to drift a car well. A Chevrolet Chevette is rear wheel drive and you still can't drift one.
  • i drifted in one of my friends car the other day mustang 09' 350 hp..i kinda drifted am still learning
but i was wondering if i could do it in a lesser car (Honda accord 98') manual..i know i might have to lower the suspension..i have rims on it and its mostly stock
  • You can drift a FWD car but it takes a lot of suspension work, an insane amount of dollars and will make the car really undriveable on the road. If you are interested in drifting i would suggest trading the accrod on something RWD, the abovementioned supra, a nissan s14 or s15, pontiac solstice or GTO, Ford Mustang, or various others.mugen power uk
  • What network is best at broadcasting Nascar?

    May be...

  • I'm not picky, I like em' all.
  • All Networks Broadcast Nascar Equally.
  • I think Fox
    Espn is bad
  • I pick would be FOX.
As for Digger I think he is a cool little creature. Plus it attracts the younger children, this will get them into NASCAR and as they get older they will be fans of the sport.
  • Fox always. I enjoy their broadcasts more than the others.
  • Here's the real deal...
i'm thanful for anyone who is able to broadcast the race for my viewing pleasure. Because of these people we can watch anywhere we want, and because of the broadcasting companys we can even record the race or TiVo or whatever. They all do the best they can, and it's nice to switch around and create change, but I prefer FOX and feel more comfortable as far as trying to stay with the roots of the sport. And the racing humor is the best. The announcers seem more sincere. Change is good and there's even "competiton" between broadcasting companys
  • I've preferred FOX until this year. That critter Digger really gets on my nerves. I think FOX really dropped the ball with that one. I love DW, though.
  • NONE OF THEM!!!!
EVERYTHING since the 2001 500 has SUCKED!!!

It pisses me off ESPN is doing the new **** way of broadcast instead of the GREATNESS!!! they did for 25 freaking years.
Screw the new **** ESPN go back to what you did for 25 years.
No gimmick ****, just straight up racing calling the action on the track and not looking at your monitor like they do now.
  • It used to be ESPN, but when they lost their bid to keep going, they disbanded the best NASCAR broadcasting team there ever will be.. Now the ones that do this are mostly hacks..
NASCAR started selling our loyalty to them, to people who don't give a damn about the sport.. NASCAR sold control of scheduling races to people without a conscience, or soul..pso hacks for xbox
  • Are there going to be "tire issues" again in the Autism Speaks 400 @ Dover?

    May be...

  • Maybe Goodyear saved the best of the bunch for the race they knew Tony Stewart would be racing in, lol..

Joking aside, I hope there's no issues tomorrow.
Congrats on your boys 3-hitter game...whatever you do, don't let him grow up to be a Yankee!!
    :P
  • Kyle should have won both races today. What are the chances of tires blowing out in two different classes of races in one day?

Granted it may have been a case of too much camber, but I doubt it.
  • There is some concern about the tires. The track did not rubber in at all today during the races and that is a cause for concern. There were a few tire issues today in both races because the racetrack was still green from all the rain, but not widespread issues like at Indy last year. The Nationwide and Trucks have limited sets of tires to use each race so they don't get to change tires as often as the Cup cars. However, the Cup cars are much tougher on tires than the other two series. My opinion is there will be a few teams that have issues due to aggressive set-ups, but most teams should be ok.
  • No idea, I'm just hoping for a great race since I'll be there. Great avatar and congrats on the 3 hitter!

Edit: He'll look good in them Bronx pinstripes. ;)

Edit: Dave, don't you want him to win? Lol
Send him up here to the Yanks.
  • I missed the races too. Had to work. :-(

I hope there's no major tire issues. That always takes away from good racing.

Congrats to your son on that three hitter!
  • Congrats to your sons three hitter!!!
Yeah...not so terribly bad as last year but bad enough. I hope it isn't a factor in todays race.
  • The Nationwide race wasn't nearly as bad as the truck race. In Nationwide there were about 4 tire falliures. The Truck race was pure madness! Several trucks would all have issues at the same time! After a blown tire caused a csution, James Buscher was literally going 70m/h down the frontstreach and his tire blew out! What the hell is that!

The most bizzar thing was with about 15 laps to go, Kyle Busch blew a tire in turn 2 while leading, so Colin Braun took the lead and blew a tire in turn 3, both hit the wall and brought out the caution. Then, before any of the other trucks could slow down David Starr had a tire go down despite the fact that he just took the lead from Colin Braun!

Todd Bodine, Jonny Benson, Brian Ickler and Rick Crawford also had tires go down that resulted in multiple lost laps.

The good news is GoodYear thinks the Cup Series tire will hold up better (see link below)
  • No major tire issues will happen...The nationwide didn,t really have any big issues...
  • Ooo No! I hope no tire issues. I missed the races myself. I was at the Zoo today then watched the WINGS kick booty! Yeah!

Congrats to the soon to be SuperStar and his 3 hitter!!

Have a great weekend and good luck to Kurt.
  • I missed both races today due to watching my soon to be superstar son pitch a 3 hitter in his Bronco league finale today and have been reading about tire problems in the Nationwide & Camping World series races. If you could please give me scoop so I can be prepared tommorow. Thanks and have a great weekend Nascar Nation!orbitz international flights
  • So many questions ask why is NASCAR a sport?

    May be...

  • Wow, I agree with Bestanswer! :-) Sport knitting. We should petition the IOC to include that in the Winter Olympics! My great grandmother would have taken the gold!

I agree Nascar is a great sport. I think the boneheads who question if Nascar is a sport are either gravely uneducated and lacking in simple cognitive skills, or trolls. Hey! That's a great definition of troll!

Anyhow, theres a lot of different varieties. Team sports, like you described: football, baseball, soccer, volleyball.
One on one sports: Tennis, boxing, wrestling, bowling. Racing sports: F1, bicycle racing, marathons. They are all different, but still considered sports.

But there only one Ultimate sport. I get to watch it every weekend!
  • NASCAR's a sport, the rest are games.

No one ever asks how a basketball player uses the restroom while running up and down the court..
  • I read this a long time ago and have used it often but tell me how accurate is this article?

    Let's play a game.....

In this hypothetical game, the outfielder's team is batting first so he sits on a bench waiting for his turn. He's batting sixth and the team makes three straight outs so after about 5-10 minutes of sitting watching his teammates make outs, he has to get up and trot out to the outfield. His pitcher is throwing great today so the other team gets three straight outs and the outfielder doesn't have to move a step once he's trotted out there. So he trots back into the dugout and sits down, waiting another five minutes for his turn to bat. Since the other team's pitcher is just as hot today, he strikes out, making the third out of the inning. He heads back to the outfield to stand around and wait for a ball to come his way. After nine innings, this outfielder has trotted out to his position nine times, taken 3 or 4 times at bat and if he goes hitless, does nothing else during the game but sit on the bench in the dugout and stand around out in the outfield. A total of maybe ten minutes of exertion in a 2 1/2 hour game is all it takes to make a baseball player an athlete.

Now your average offensive linesman in football is a little easier to figure out total exertion time. The average NFL football team runs 62 offensive plays per game. The average play lasts 7-10 seconds. A little figuring tells us the offensive linesman is actually playing for a total of 7-10 minutes in a three and a half hour game. The rest of the time he is watching his defensive teammates play while standing around on the sidelines, standing around on the field in a huddle or waiting for play to resume. So once again it only takes exertion time of 7-10 minutes in over three hours to make an athlete.

Your typical NASCAR race lasts 3-4 hours. The driver is performing for all 3-4 hours except for a few 15-second pit stops when he can grab a quick drink of water. There is no sitting on a bench watching his teammates play or standing in the field hoping a ball comes his way (or hoping not). There is no standing around on a sideline or in a huddle waiting for a seven second period of activity. The NASCAR driver climbs in his car and goes through three to four hours straight of physical activity with 2-3 minutes of total rest time during the average pit stops per race. So your average ball player has 7-10 minutes of activity in his three-hour game while the average driver has two hours and 57 minutes of exertion.

Tell me is this THE ultimate sport or what?????

    I love NASCAR.
  • I've said before that to me a sport is anything you do with a goal of winning. It could be professional knitting for all I care, but if the goal is to win, and there's competition, I'd consider it a sport.
  • Very well said bestanswer. I agree. Nascar is the Ultimate sport and always will be.

The old saying in the Bud Dry commercial "why ask why?"
Have a great weekend Nascar Nation!
  • Not to be a party pooper, but, those analogies are correct and Nascar is THE ultimate sport. It just isn't as grueling as a four plus hour singles tennis match.
  • It is The ultimate Sport! And who cares what other people think! They don't know what they are missing!

  • I love all racing.. It is the ultimate reality sport.. You see people do extraordinary things.. Alex Zanardi in the "corkscrew", at Lagoona, driving the car over a cliff to pass Brian Herta on the last lap, and getting away with it.. Over a cliff.. Wow.. Anyway..
NASCAR is the best.. Four wide off a corner, door to, door.. And I'd like to see Dan Weldon do a back flip off an Indy car (not sure about Helio), that wouldn't do.. I haven't seen a Indy driver yet who tried snow angels..
Back to NASCAR where cars go to one track that has fifteen second laps, at ninety mph, and another where they do two hundred, and the laps are fifty seconds.. Where anyone can win.. And often does..
  • You and Fluffy and bestAnswer and a few others...absolutely got it right. Sometimes those questions "why is NASCAR a Sport" get me down because the people asking don't really want to know...they just want to see us defend our sport and if we get defensive...they laugh. I don't answer them anymore...but look at these great answers here and I am sooo proud to be a fan of NASCAR!!!
If we get that question again...and we will...lol....we should incorprate some of these answers.

Oh and BestAnswer...you should see me knit...I can knit like the wind. Let me know when the next tournament comes up will you???
  • You also need to mention that the object of play (a race car vs. a ball) is a highly technical piece of equipment designed from hundreds of scientific components working in unison, as opposed to pieces of leather stitched together inflated with air or stuffed. There is a ton of competition just getting "the object of play" to be utilized for it's performance in any form of motorsports. I always thought the ball games were boring and NASCAR was 100% intense action. Even when they "pit" it's non-stop action. Like I always say, "NASCAR is as intense as a NASA space launch, and it lasts a whole lot longer"
  • Nascar IS the ULTIMATE sport because a normal race lasts 3-4 hours and the drivers have to endure the heat from the engine and not going to bathroom for 4 hours and drinking very little so in one race they can lose about 5-10 pounds....so i think nascar is not just A sport but THE sport!xbox lve
  • Do you think I should make a bet with my neighbor?

    May be...

  • A friendly bet? Go for it, you might just win, and if not, no big deal as long as you had fun.
  • If it's all in fun, why not?

Instead of twenty bucks, why not bet a bbq get together...that way no matter who wins, you both enjoy it...
  • My neighbor is a die-hard Jeff Gordan fan and I am a die-hard Tony Stewart fan. Should I goad him into making a bet about who finishes best this year? His driver is leading in the points but my driver typically finishes the season strong.
The bet won't be for more than $20 and we'll still be friends no matter what. Bet or no bet? ( I like to win)..
  • I hate to be a "myth buster", but the reason Tony did that was because Zippy save the major portion of his budget for the second half of the season, so while other teams were running low on things like money, he had resources left.. Zippy ain't his crew chief, and it will make a difference, but here's the thing.. Tony has been getting stronger every race, so it may be a self fulfilling prophesy, because if this continues he will be a factor.. So many possibilities.. Love this sport..

Edit:The year Earnhardt won the Daytona 500, was the first time I made a NASCAR bet on line.. I won $750.. The odds were great, because he had never won it before.. I think that's funny..
  • sure why not its a harmless bet
  • For 20 bucks i'd make the bet. Tony just may kick Gordo's but this year. I hope not but he may. My sister-in-law would kill me for saying that...hahaha!!
  • I would make the bet because it's only for $20, but Gordon will probably finish better than Stewart based on what he has done so far at tracks that are in the Chase.
  • Sure, why not it sound's like fun. Have him cut your lawn while your at it. If Jeff win's you might have to clean some dish's though. Enjoy!!
  • Sure, why not have some fun with it. Both Jeff and Tony are running well so you both have a fair shot at it. But make it more interesting than $20 or money. If you win, make him mow your lawn in a tiny women's bikini. If he wins, you have to bow down to him in a busy public place and swear that he is your master and king of your whole world. Whatever you guys think would embarrass the $h!t out of the other. Something fun and yet humiliating.
  • Oh absolutely! I've always found a friendly bet always makes the race a little more interesting!
  • Go ahead and make the bet...it's only $20 and too early to tell especially with those two. But I tell you it will be exciting to watch both of them.
I made a bet with a Jimmie Johnson fan ... if Kyle finishes better by the end of the season... he gets me a subscription for my favorite magazine...and if Jimmie comes out ahead then I make him a cheesecake a month until the Daytona 500 2010. So I will say to him "go ahead and drop that subscription in the mail" or he says "got those cheesecakes going yet??"
Its all in fun and you can do it as well.relative humidity
