After a weekend incident, do you think?

May be...

  • Yes, I agree. It's partially the media's fault. "TNT - they know drama". They also know beating a dead horse. lol
  • Hey, anything for ratings.

How often do they bring up "the fight" from 1979?
  • Kenny Wallace said that NASCAR told them to stir it up
  • It's good and bad. I have no problem with people asking as many different questions as they need to about an incident, but I hate when it is the same question over and over (Did Tony Stewart really wreck Kyle, etc.) but in the media it is not necessarily a bad thing. If they play it up, hopefully it gains a lot of interest and makes people want to tune in the next week. Many people will probably be watching tonight because they want to see if there will be any retaliation from last week's "monster of the week".
Those journalists have to pay the bills somehow, so there will most likely be another monster of the week incident tonight.
  • Hey, anything for ratings.

How often do they bring up "the fight" from 1979?
  • After a while, people should just move on to the next race? I speak because of the endless Kyle/Tony questions.

Seems too the media sometimes make a minor incident seem more important than other news in our sport. I call it 'monster-of-the-week syndrome', with the one 'conflict' being the so-called monster.

    Your thoughts?

  • Do think Ky Bush should had won the race that Tony wreck him?

    May be...

  • There wasn't a race where Tony wrecked Kyle, so I can't answer your question accurately. Now, about the race where Kyle's actions result in his own wreck...
  • No, Tony had no where to go when Kyle went to shoulder and lost control and cut into Tony's path. It was a racing incedent and the best man won.
  • You should have used grammar check
  • go back to school
    learn proper english
  • Yes, he should have and would have...He is a GREAT driver no matter what people think of him...GO Kyle...
  • ummm...what? Is that even a sentence?
  • Once again, if I had a dollar for every time a question like this was asked....
  • Oh no you di int
  • Kyle has blocked before and he will do it again next time he leads. ( THAT is what they mean on TV when they say he is the only driver that can go three wide all by himself )

Kyle DID NOT CLEAR Tony when he went to block him. It's sad that he could have won the race without the block BUT he made a choice and it was not the right one.

IF you try to put a car in front of another one to block that person so that he does not go in front of you then you MUST make sure that as you turn your own car it is clear from hitting the car you are trying to go in front of. If you have seen most of the races from the past few years you have seen this before. Enjoy the race.
  • First and foremost, Tony Stewart did not wreck Kyle Busch.
If he would have held his line instead of making multiple erratic movements he may have had a very close victory.
As it is Kyle Busch attempted to block and he wrecked himself.
Now, can we leave this topic to rest?!
  • No. Tony would have passed him even if he hadn't ran into Tony and spun himself. He would have just finished 2nd or 3rd instead.
  • No. And I don't think that Kyle Busch should had won, either.
  • No, he was all over Stewart, Tony just tried to get him out of the way.webtv newsgroup
  • Why is it so boring in nascar YA?

    May be...

  • NASCAR itself is getting boring, They need to turn the drivers loose like in the old days
  • man when i first came on here last year it was fun and there was alot going on.questions were asked that actually made sense, answers were given that u could rely on.now it is almost a waste of time to be on here.what can we do as nascar nation to make this a beter site so we can actually enjoy it?
  • Because of a lonely female cougar who's young "trophy husband" isn't keeping her happy is using Yahoo to pass her time by creating multiple accounts and trying to be funny when all she is doing is impressing herself and making everyone else miserable in the process. Yahoo use to be filled with knowledgeable people. Now it is filled with a person who spends her time thumbs downing people who "calls her out" and who she considers is not her friend and will not give her best answers.
Some other people come on here and try to figure out creative ways of asking "Who is your favorite driver?" by adding a twist to the question like "Who is your favorite driver and would he be your favorite driver if he was sleeping with your wife?". Stupid questions like those are a waste of everyone's time and it's a degrade to the service Yahoo is trying to provide to the public.
There is a group of people in the NASCAR section that tries to act like they own the section. They'll do anything for an extra "Best Answer". To them they ask stupid chat questions and then give each other best answers so they can wear a Top Contributor badge because in the real world they are nothing else.
To make a long story short. The intelligent people left and the idiots far out-weigh the intelligent ones.
  • People got tired of the hating and bashing "questions" generally towards Kyle and Dale Jr. The regulars here went elsewhere...FaceBook mainly...we chat and post there a lot. Moreso than here. Some of us also have our own little group and anything we want to know gets asked or commented on...etc...
I can look in here and answer a question and come back hours later to find nothing new. It's sad but nothing lasts forever I guess.
The spammers like the NIke ones or the "where can I watch NASCAR live on PC" whatever......YA can do something about them...they just won't. Plus it's summertime...and most are out doing stuff. Like me...going to sit by a friends pool this afternoon and have a little picnic. I will be home for the race though.
  • I think that we should be a little tougher in our reporting. I still don't know where half of the former regulars (kiDD 82, etc) went. Some (like poor Prez) keep getting reported repeatedly. Others (like some I won't name) turned to trolling. It sucks, but it could be a whole heck of a lot worse. I can't think of any more improvement ideas, but if I do, then I'll get back to you.
  • i agree with happee1. things are no different on here than they were 3 years ago when i first started coming on here. people come and go, but that's just a reflection of life itself. if you don't like coming here, good riddance. nobody likes a whiner.
  • Destroy the Sith!! (AKA the Trolls!)
It's hard to think of 10 truly reliable people in here. tom p, David G, you, SuperDave, and a few others are the only ones who ask and give intelligent questions and answers consistently.
And really, the annoying questions about how to watch races for free is INCREDIBLY annoying. Also, the people that come in and rag on us about our sport drives people away. Stay strong in it BD!
Oh, and the same guy has won the championship for 3 straight years. That's a little boring.
  • if your bored then don't go in
  • first we need to get rid of the bots and the numerous where can i watch nascar online for free questions
  • I can't say I disagree with you. But the thing is, all of Yahoo Answers is getting this way. It's not just NASCAR.
  • there are a few self-righteous people who have multiple accounts that put themselves in charge of taking the fun out of it. Yes, it used to be fun, but every time I asked a fun question it got deleted.
  • Too many trolls. Some days it seems like the only posts are...How is going around in a circle fun? Or where do they go to the bathroom? Or its just going around in a circle I could do that.

I know I got tired of reading those. I wish it could go back to just real NASCAR questions.
  • School is out and the trolls are ramped, bored and entertaining themselves by annoying us when they should be outside doing something productive instead of staring at a computer screen all day. Wow, ouch how is that for a little sunshine this morning :)

Oh, it also has a little to do with It's summertime to and lots of vacationing going on and just being outside enjoying the outside before it's cold and dreary. I love the summertime!
  • I just try to avoid the drama. If anyone wants to talk to me, add me on facebook.
  • Nobody comes on here now because of the trolls and all the Dale Jr and Kyle Busch bashing. Questions like where can I watch races online for free? are asked 10 times everyday and take the spot of legitimate questions. People just got tired of everything and have left. The only way to fix it is to get rid of trolls.
  • I can't agree more I came on about the same time as you.I liked it but now there is so much hate here it's not funny.people need to chill out and learn this is suppose to be fun!I don't come here to often any more cause of it.I have to much stress in life I don't need it on my comp as well.this is suppose to be fun not a pain in the azz!
  • 'cause it is.
  • Trolls have ruined YA, and because the same questions are repeatedly asked.
  • No.. buddy.. knooows.
It's still cool Duece. Summer comes.. people go.
The ''Chase'' will start..and the fun will flow.vss sleep

  • I went to the British Grand Prix and I was wondering?

    May be...

  • I went to the Britsh Grand Prix 2009 this year, I was thinking that F1 is full of glory hunting fans. What I mean is that, half of the fans who supported Mclaren last year are now supporting Brawn GP and they all have the official Brawn GP caps, I am still a Mclaren Supporter and always will be.
    But I was wondering,
Are Brawn GP fans Ex-Mclaren fans who have jumped ship to support Brawn becasue now their winning and Lewis Hamilton and Mclaren arn't.
  • I have been a BMW fan and a fan of Kubica but living in the sates I will show support for USGP, I want them to win and I want to be proud of a American based team since we don't have that luxury as you european fans have so I guess I can't say I would be jumping ship but sharing my support!
  • Not everyone supports a team as you do. Many fans mainly support a driver, so their allegiance to a team therefore changes as the driver moves to a different team. I suspect many of the Brawn cap wearers are actually Jenson fans. They probably still have their Honda caps somewhere down the back of the sofa.

Having said that, I think British fans are very pleased to have another British team to add to McLaren and Williams and do actually want to establish a fan base for the team. There are glory hunting fans in every sport, but I really don't think there are too many amongst the serious F1 fans.

I support both Jenson and Lewis because they're British, but I thought I'd look silly with both Brawn and McLaren caps on, so I just wore my Force India cap!
  • Yea I think people probably do do this simply because they are supporting the British driver who is winning, not the British driver who is at the back. I myself still support Lewis Hamilton and McLaren as well as Jenson Button and Brawn GP. I was lucky enough to go to the British GP for my first time this year and I brought myself both the McLaren and Brawn hats and t-shirts. Im my opinion I don't see the point in supporting one team for one year and not the next because they are not winning. You either support them or you don't and there's nothing to say that you cant support more than one team either.
  • I take it that you personally know or perhaps interviewed all of the offending jumping supporters to be so certain of your facts? I am not sure otherwise how you could quantify your statement.
This must have made your visit to Silverstone rather busy, did you get chance to see any racing or were you too busy doing your interviews?
  • No me, I`ve always been a supporter of British drivers. Going way back to Stirling Moss. There have been a few "foreign" drivers I`ve supported, Emerson Fittipaldi included but in general I support our own home grown drivers.how to program car keys

How fast do bomber cars go?

    May be...

  • depends on the track size. at a 1/4 mile asphat track they can go about 75 mph would guess, maybe a little faster. i have never driven one but my late model does about 135 or so and i run a couple seconds faster than the bombers.
  • i am fixin to race bomber cars and i am wondering how fast they go
  • How fast they go typically depends on where you run, and what type of surface. A pavement track will typically reach higher speeds than a dirt track. A longer track will allow you to get greater speeds than a short track. Typically you have greater speeds down longer straightaways than through the corners.

Your speed also can depend on your track rules for engines, fuel and tires.

But for an example, the Bomber track record at Mobile International Speedway, a 1/2 mile paved oval, is approx 75 mph.

    http://www.mobilespeedway.net/trackrecor…

The fast time from a bomber on this night at Mountain Motor Speedway was 17.26. This is a 3/8 mile dirt track in KY which equates to 78 mph. The rules appear to be different at these 2 tracks, so its difficult to make a solid comparison.

    http://www.geocities.com/isomrace/5_15-0…

At Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, CA, looks like fast time on this 3/8 mile paved oval was 19.1, which is just over 50 mph.

    http://www.shastaracewaypark.net/results…

Hopefully that answers your question. If the track is 3/8-1/2 mile, its probably between 50-75 mph. Under 3/8 mi would probably be slower. But there are a lot of factors that would determine how fast you could potentially go.l3700tk

  • There are the British, World and German Touring Car Championships (BTCC, WTCC, and DTM) which are excellent! I am not sure however how you could get to watch them on US TV. I know that Eurosport and ITV4 show BTCC, but don't if they stream to USA.

These guys do turn right very well! I guess it's not so big across the Pond because NASCAR is the main motorsport watched there. Here in the UK, I get to see F1, GP2, WRC and touring at the very least.

Sorry I can't be of more help and I really hope you find a way of watching it. It's brilliant. :-)
  • Americans don't like it,
but i would really love it if there was touring here in the states
  • And if it has where in the world do i find it?
I live in Texas and i've only been able to find NASCAR (left turn!! LEFT TURN!!! FASTERR! HIT IT WITH A HAMMER!) and like lawnmower racing.
I would really like to watch a real touring race.

Should Jeremy Mayfield be allowed to compete?

    May be...

  • yes,he is a good driver and no harm to others...I work in a lab and alot of times we get false positves
  • Yeah.
His test gave a false positive. And even drugs like Advil can cause a positive drug test.
He is not a danger to anyone.
NA$CAR is just what I typed. Money hungry tools who don't give a damn about the little guy and the small teams.

Also he has the make the race before he is out their with 42 others. 43 cars are pretty much never on the track at the same time during practice.
  • YES
  • Of course, I mean it doesn't really matter when was the last time Jeremy won a race! He doesn't look like a meth user and as it was said abovr for some reason Bill does not like Jeremy
  • lol no he was on meth and tested positve lol he needs to lay off the drugs
  • if he's drug free and not a danger to the other drivers then yes he should be aloud to
  • He was not actually found not guilty, the judge simply took exception to the lack of an independent lab to retest the samples. I say take the leftover portion of the samples to another lab and rerun them. A sample taken now would prove exactly nothing. Obviously, if you're planning to take a drug test, you're going to avoid the drugs. So, use the samples that failed previously. Possibly do a hair test. That would suit everyone. If the new independent lab tests provide the result that he was actually drug-free, then he's free to try to find a ride. But he needs to prove that it was indeed a false positive. The drivers trust the guys next to them not to be consuming drugs and/or alcohol that will be in their system while they are competing. So far all he has done is found fault with the system without proving it was an inaccurate result.
  • Yes, if he is drug free.

I think this whole fiasco is karma. Jeremy had something like this coming to him. I bet he wishes he could go back and maybe treat Roger Penske, Ray Evernham and others a little differently.
  • Nope he already messed up!
  • It ain't about Jeremy being allowed to drive anymore.. It's about NASCAR having the right to set criteria for the drivers to meet, before they can get on the track..
  • It's ridiculous ! Of course he should, NASCAR won't allow Mayfield to take a sample from the test to an independent lab. NASCAR used their own private lab. He is being railroaded by Brian France.
  • Yes Nascar is trying to railroad him!!
  • he is, but no sponsors want him driving their car.
  • He was found not guilty. So yes, he should be allowed to compete.
  • Sure, he could drive for anyone other than himself, its up to him to accept what is going on and convince NASCAR and the other drivers he is drug-free. Even if he is not allowed to race he should at least go around and talk to his fellow racers and competitors about what is going on. NASCAR wants to reinstate the suspension which I have no problem with. Jeremy Mayfield has gone from being the nest great hosthot to just about nothing and he's got to recover himself first and let other drivers give him a chance to redeem himself. No, its not gonna happen quickly for Jeremy but if he has the desire to get back to being a full-time competitor in the series and compete for wins again, he has to figure out what got him to racing in the first place.my bidding

  • Basic sprint car racing questions?

    May be...

  • Ask businesses to sponsor your race car. This will help cover the costs of races and repairs to your car. Sponsoring will also benefit the businesses because you're advertising in the community. As for paying for the whole car, I'm pretty sure you have to come up with the money on your own.

Check out racer-net.com which is a website where people can buy and sell used or new race cars. Make sure to have the car inspected before purchase to assure you aren't buying a lemon.

You must be at least 16 years of age (proof of age required) If you're under 18 years of age you must have a signed and notarized parental consent form by parents or legal guardian and said consent must be in the hands of the track official before the individual will be allowed to participate in any event.

    hope i helped :)
  • Some tracks will let you run as young as 14.
Paying for the car??? Well that's up to you, usually cash works. After you get a car and all the necessary equipment to go racing then you can go looking for sponsors. No one will just give you money to start up a racing program, you have to show them how committed you are and what you already have in place.
Here's a good link for cars and parts:

    Good Luck
  • I just need to know:

How old do you have to be to race sprint cars?
    and
How do you pay for the car, and what is the price range on a used sprint car (winged) with a motor?dumb laws in canada

  • Why don't you take your stupid questions back to your precious F1 series section.
Us NASCAR fans don't believe in wasting time with you.
  • well Jimmy Spencer doesnt usually race and Tony Stewart doesnt seem to have too much trouble so i guess no. and besides, theres a safety issue involved
  • I bet If you put Tony Stewart In a F1 car he could not only be competitive but he would win a race in his first season! Even though he doesn't have any F1 experience because that's how good he is. I bet he could beat any F1 drive you put in a Nascar on any circle track in a heads up race!
  • They could put "gull wing" doors on 'em like on a Lamborghini
    ( or what Tom P said )
    ( I just wanted to post a picture of a Lamboghini )
  • well that's a good question how is F1 doing right now anyway retard. thanks for the points
  • Did you mean NASCAR? If so then I am not sure what fat drivers you are referring to. People say Tony Stewart is slightly overweight but he doesn't have a problem getting in and out of the car. You should provide more evidence to support your claim, unless you are just on here to try and bother NASCAR fans.

Edit: We all get frustrated when trolls invade a section, but they just expect you to do the same thing. Just remember that even though somebody provoked you in the F1 section, they aren't the ones you are getting back by coming here. You just have to ignore or report the obvious trolls until they go away.
  • The only fat guy in Nascar is Tony Stewart. He won the IRL championship in 1997 and just won last Saturday.

Sorry about 'some' Nascar fan's but how 'bout you go ***** yourself Allan.
  • F1 must be frightfully boring for you so called fans to be spending so much time in the NASCAR section.

i'm not miffed dude, but your mom is upset with you for being so jealous of a superior motorsport. she's right here if you want to talk to her.

come back anytime loser, we enjoy making morons like you look stupid.
  • Have you seen Carl Edwards!? He could destroy the world 50 times over!

And don't give us that keyboard nonsense.
  • Tony Stewart had to quit indycar because he was too big for the car but Nascar he seems to be able to get in fine and win.Doors are not very safe and areodynamic.
  • How does a Top Contributor in F1 become a troll in Nascar?
F1 must be boring as hell!

Damn this keyboard! I meant "How does a Top Contributor in F1 become a troll in Nascar"?
  • I have never even heard of NAPCAR.
Could you give us some additional details as to which country holds this series.
  • Name one driver today who is fat??
You guys are bored silly with F1 aren't you?? Understandable.
  • Actually most Nascar drivers are in very good shape. There are a few that could lose a few pounds but almost all drivers are in great shape.
  • Uh oh...another invasion coming....

Nope, the doors could come off or open in a wreck.

And if the car is in a wreck, they might be jammed shut.
  • The cars had doors? it seems a bit cruel watching chubby dudes trying to squeeze in the window, don't you think?
  • Allan, you may not have noticed, but Formula 1 cars don't have doors do they? It's all for safety reasons.

NASCAR drivers are more likely to be on the larger side because they spend much longer sitting down. These races last for 4 or 5 hours at a time you know.

EDIT: Having said that, Tony Stewart is sponsored by Burger King...

Also, I really think you need a new keyboard.
  • Thanks for making my day. I get a real kick out of someone trying to poke fun at others expense when they are unable themselves to use basic grammar and spelling in their rants.
  • Ooohh. A little feisty today, Allan, n'est-ce pas? No wonder they're all over you.

Tony is the only one I can think of who gives the appearance of being a little thick in the middle. But as several here have pointed out, he still ingresses and egresses the windows pretty well, and is only First in the points standings. This in spite of fielding his own 2009 startup team, with himself and another (Ryan Newman) as the two team drivers. His plight could be likened to Hamilton or even better, Brawn. Both startup teams this year with unexpected and amazing results thus far in the season. Quite an accomplishment for both, and Button only has to drive; Tony has to deal with ownership issues as well.

Like F-1, there are many finer nuances to Nascar racing that the casual or occasional observer might not notice. Each venue - Nascar and F-1 - has their own positives and negatives. Neither is without sin, so to speak. You might want to re-think anything which could be construed as an attack; many Nascar fans are pretty fanatical and don't take kindly to comments they feel denigrate their races, cars, teams or drivers.

Me, I know you for your on-line persona and take no real offence at your mindless comments. ;-) As you know, I have a great deal of respect for your overall racing acumen. But please take my warm advice; fix your bloody keyboard and try to remember, it's NASCAR, not NAPCAR. That's the sort of comment which will raise the collective ire of those fans on these pages, and leave you swirling in the maelstrom of resentment and angry written retribution.

Ehm, I still love you, but I'm not sure many of these NASCAR fans feel the same warmth toward you at this moment..

NASCAR: What's the qualifying procedure for starting grid positions?

    May be...

  • The top 35 in the driver standings are locked in and qualify first through a "blind" draw. The remaining spots in the field are then filled through qualifying and - if applicable - any driver who uses a "past champion's provisional" to gain entry into the race. Fields have 43 drivers and the number of cars qualifying each week can vary dramatically.
  • What they said.

    GO 24!!!!
  • Normally (except for the Daytona 500) qualifying is done as the best of 2 laps with one driver on the course at a given time. Only on road courses is it that 1 lap.

In the case of the Daytona 500 (NASCAR's Monaco GP if you will) is the qualifying procedure different.
One week before the 500 there is the same (as I mentioned above) qualifying procedure but in this case it only locks the front row. On the Thursday before the 500 there are the Gatorade Duel qualifying races to lock in the other 41 competitors.
  • timed laps with extra soft tyers
  • Qualifying procedure when rained out:

    Top 35 in owner's points
Team with driver who won during current season
Winning driver from current season not in top 35
Past series champion (most recent first)
Number of team attempts (ties go to driver highest in points)
  • for starters, the top 35 in owner points are guaranteed to make the race. let's say there are 47 cars qualifying for the 43 starting spots, since the top 35 are already in, that means the other 12 cars, the 'go or go homers' as they're called, are qualifying for the remaining 8 spots. the top 35 qualify first, then the go or go homers qualify after them. now if a go or go homer qualifies ahead of a top 35 car, as often happens, he gets that starting spot, but he cannot bump a top 35er out of the race. so the fastest 8 of the 12 go or go homers make the race, starting in whatever position they qualify in, they don't necessarily start behind the top 35 cars, in other words, and the other 4 cars go home.
  • Two timed laps around the track. Fastest one gets the pole. Slowest ones are out. There are certain ways to get into the race

    1. Fastest Lap (Only Works for the Worst Drivers who are on part-time rides)

    2. Owner Points: How many sprint cup drivers make it in

    3. Past Championship: Nicknamed the "Darrell Waltrip Rule", because that's how he got into the race in the late 90s.

If there are any others let me know.
  • The Coke Zero 400 was the first race I have watched, and I realise that qualifying was rained off and grid positions decided by driver standings. But I don't know how the qualifying normally works.

Please only answer if you genuinely want to educate me. Don't bother if you want to stone me for being an F1 fan.
  • Don't worry about being an F1 fan in the Nascar section. I get stoned for it occasionally myself. But remember it works both ways. Nascar fans get stoned by F1 fans.

Each team has a representative draw a number for qualifying order. Each car gets two laps with the best one counting as your time. The cars outside the top 35 go at the end of the session.

Qualifying is not that important in Nascar like it is in F1. The races are longer. It's easy to pass. And you have many chances to catch up as there are many cautions. Qualifying also determines the order in which you pick your pit stall which is perhaps more important than starting position. 3 or 4 drivers have won a race this year from the back of the pack.
  • The top 35 draw for qualfying order. They run 1, sometimes 2 timed laps. Fastest lap gets the pole. Know it all explained the "go or go home" cars pretty good. Here's a link from Jayski that goes into all that and the champion provisional too
  • If you are in the top 35 in owners' points you do not have to qualify. The other guys have to compete against each other, the 8 fastest of them getting to start. As far as starting positions, that is determined by speed. The fastest car gets the pole, etc. In addition, the better position in which you start, the better pit box selection you will have.m505 keyboard

  • Is F1 motor racing controlled by closet nazis?

    May be...

  • First, we had Gauleiter Mad Max Moseley in a "nazi" themed masochistic ritual, and now Herr Bernie Eccleston praising Hitler and defending his record. Many of the F1 teams have complained about their high-handed style of treating others, a style reminiscent of Joseph Goebbels' Kristallnacht campaign and propaganda.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/f…
  • A better question would be, Is society including academia, government and NGOs controlled by closet Communist Marxists?? Mandelson, Blunket, Charles Clarke all ex communist party members, Livingstone, hatton the list is endless of the far left who were soviet communist lackeys, that doesn't include the civil service double agents.

Whether one likes it or not, before war, Hitler brought pride and a sense of purpose to the German Nation, he never took a salary during his term in office, he was a politician that was sincere and kept his word, Europe's first minimum wage and paid holidays for workers, a social housing programme the cutting edge of its time, full work and employment, the crushing of communist agitators and unions, social equality between businessman and worker an ethnic centric society for Germans. Churchill said of Hitler in 1936, that there was not a man in europe with the integrity of herr hitler.(words to that effect)
I other words Hitler got things done.As Eccelstone stated
  • Just to add to your Nazi suspicions..
Max's parents, Sir Oswald Mosley and Diana Mitford, were married at a ceremony in Germany attended by Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Hitler!
The pair were thrown in jail for a few years during WW2 because of their fascist views. Oswald was the leader of British Union of Fascists at the time,
    Nazi blood runs deep! :-(
  • No...F1 Motor Racing is controlled by Nazi Zombies.
  • No, Bernie did not, he simply stated Hitler knew how to get things done. And he also said he new it wasn't a good thing to say, and as usual people are taking it totally out of context. He did not defend Hitler's record at all. He was trying to show that F1 needs to be controlled by one person, (himself) as in this way things get done rather than having a committee that can't decide on anything.
Hitler was that kind of person, he knew how to make decisions and get things done (unfortunately he used his abilities for the wrong reasons) and that's why soon as his name is mentioned people start to jump up and down in protest. Thats also why when Bernie asked whether Hitler was the architect of the Final Solution he said maybe, maybe not and hence the careful wording used by the journalist of...' Ecclestone appears to be suggesting...' to make sure he doesn't get sued.
  • You're looking too deep into this. Way too deep.
  • Wow, I can't believe the Ecclestone said that. I thought he had some brains about him, unlike the other nitwit, who is at least a self confessed Nazi. Clearly, I was wrong.

Any tips on staying awake while watching NASCAR?

    May be...

  • Generally Nascar races are replayed, so I recommend you to watch the replay, so you won't miss the races but you won't miss your sleeptime either.
  • Get a DVR.
  • well sounds like you need a dvr or tivo to record the race and watch it at a more appropriate time. Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson are the best drivers.imo of course
  • Not a bit tough, eh? Winny, wait till I get through with you.

Several of us have been telling you for the last 2 weeks since you've ventured into Nascar territory, it ain't over till it's over. You've gotta stop drinking then you won't fall asleep. But whatever you do, you MUST see the last 20 laps of any Nascar race, if you see absolutely nothing else.

If you want a real winner; someone who's not a whiney loser or an overly aggressive, inconsiderate (some might say dirty), childish driver, then as some have already suggested, #14, Tony Stewart; "Smoke" He sure smoked 'em whilst you were sleeping!

I award you a star for your effort, though. Next time DON'T GO TO SLEEP! And don't listen to trolls like one or two who posted a little before me.

BTW- we were even till you got your knickers in a knot and teed off on poor little moi. Be careful. Paybacks are hell. :-o
  • You can watch it on-line and off load to a m-p3
  • Get a DVR. Best thing you'll ever buy. By the way, I doubt that youll fall asleep during a Restrictor Plate race!
  • Take a nap before hand and have plenty of caffinated beverages on hand. Soda, coffee, energy drinks, etc.
As far as drivers, I would recommend Tony Stewart. He is a great driver and is doing great on a new team.
Brad Keselowski (not running full time yet) and Joey Logano would be good choices because they are showing promise and you could follow them from the start of their cup careers.
  • Keep watching, learn the story lines and the rivalries, etc. As you become more interested in the sport, you won't be able to sleep. For example, I'm a huge F1 fan as well. I watch every race live no matter what. Sometimes I have to set my alarm for 3am but I do it baby!
  • Sleep until the race starts, then at 2:30 wake up and drink some coke or something. By the way, I'm going to the UK soon, so I hope you are fun over there. Cheer for Kasey Kahne and David Reutimann. They're my favorites. I want you to teach you in the ways of the force.
  • Before you all start shouting at me, it is a serious question!

I'm in the UK and watched my very first live NASCAR race last weekend. However, because of the time difference, it started here at 0030 on Sunday, so it's way past my bedtime. I vaguely remember the first third of the race, maybe. However, I missed all the excitement at the end that you're all talking about. What happened? I woke up at 0730 with a crick in my neck having fallen asleep on my sofa. Very disappointed in myself. At least suggest a driver for me to follow! Thanks.
  • Might I suggest that you take a nap earlier? I was a fan of Pat Cash in tennis, so when he played Davis Cup, I would take a nap in the evening so I could get up and watch him. You probably don't want to hear my take on what happened because I'm still pretty irate over it. My top two drivers crashed like that burns me up!
  • Take a quick power nap in the middle of the race. It helps.
  • I watch the races online too. The channel I watch repeats the stream several times during the next day. You could probably email the jtv channel owner and get a time. Being in the UK you could avoid any spoilers and watch it the next day at a better time. Or get wired like suggested above lol.

I may have watched it with you, I remember someone saying "it's 00:30 here" when the race started.
  • Go for a winner like Tony Stewart #14, he will keep you awake because he is always in the thick of the battle if not winning them.
  • Tony Stewart! Get a DVR! Nice to know UK supports Nascar.
  • Well, it's definitely easier here because it's not on a 3:30 am. Try taking a nap first.

As far as a driver. there are driver profile pages on NASCAR.com. Read through them and try to pick one. Maybe there is a sponsor, or car manufacturer you like????

    Welcome aboard.
  • LOL An F1 fan asking how to stay awake for a NASCAR race...thats rich. Don't bother watching. Go back to F1 or watch paint dry ...both give you the same level as excitement.
Seems like the good people here don't recall your other questions. Insults not so cleverly disguised as real questions.
  • Try juggling 3 chainsaws while feeding a hungry crocodile, have the NAPCAR on in the background, that might work but I wouldn't bet on it!
  • I have a crick running through my back yard. I'll tell you what my friend. If you fall asleep or can't stay awake, your not a true fan. It's O.K. though. Here's what you do: Don't give up. Keep watching. Either your a fan or your not. If you are a fan, sooner or later your going to quit cheating yourself out of all the excitement, and you will stay awake, alert, and focused. If you have to, record the race. But if you record the race, you have to get a friend or two to watch it with you. If you have a couple of guys commenting on the race, it's ten times more fun. If you can't record the race because your watching online, buy a bigger "monitor" and tell your friends they have to come over to your pad, because your watching the race. Sleep is kind of a waste of life, if you miss the race. Prioritize!
  • Record the race and watch it at a decent hour. I was out Saturday night, taped the race and watched it Sunday morning.ref1210a
  • I have 4 signed hats from the year Dale Jarret won the cup, and a signed pic too, what is the value of these?

    May be...

  • its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it! to me its worth nothing because im not a fan of his...then again someone may be willing to pay hundreds! i collect nascar items and prices vary by the individual....hope this helps

  • Lewis hamilton world champ to world chump ,as any other world champion done so badly the year after winning it?

    May be...

  • Nikki Lauda 1985 with McClaren
    Damon Hill 1997 with Arrows
  • Damon Hill?
Didn't he move to Arrows, and have a torrid season?
  • What about Nigel Mansel? Didn't turn up in 93, too scared of having Prost to deal with again.
Came back as a publicity stunt in 1994, did ok. 1995 too fat for his car
  • Jody Scheckter became the first reigning world champion to fail to qualify for a GP in Canada in 1980. He only scored 2 points all season and retired after the last race. His car was poor, but he made it look worse. His 19th place in the drivers championship is the worst in F1 history for a champion who defended his title for the whole season. The only champion to place lower than Scheckter for a title defence is Alberto Ascari in 1954, finishing 25th with 1.14 points; however he only took part in four of the nine races that season and got his points by setting fastest laps - he didn't finish a race.

That's much more pathetic than either Lauda (who WON in his final season, 1985, and finished 10th in the championship) or Hill, who got on the podium and actually drove very well with an unreliable and uncompetitive car to finish 12th in the title race in 1997.

    EDIT

Dodgy indeed. Scheckter simply lost his mojo after winning the title. The car was poor as well. Ferrari didn't follow the trend of ground effect cars, and lost the gamble. Scheckter only twice qualified in the top 10, never higher than 8th, and got his points by finishing 5th at Long Beach, a lap behind in a race where 14 of the cars retired.

As a comparison, his teammate Gilles Villeneuve qualified 7 times in the top ten, with a best of 3rd. He got in the points four times. He even led a lap of the Brazilian GP.

Admittedly, 1980 was the worst season in Ferrari's history...10th in the constructors championship with no wins, poles, fastest laps or even podiums...however Scheckter didn't get near to his teammate in effort or results.
  • There have been others such as Scheckter but it's much more pleasing seeing it happen to Hamilton.
  • Bozo Boy, what sort of baccy did I actually send you?

Brilliant answer, as ever, from rosbif.

But, we're only 7 races into the season. Let's all just calm down and see how it ultimately pans out. :-)
  • Allan quietly picks up Bozo's dummy and hands it back to him!
  • Guess I'm having a little trouble understanding the reasons behind your uncharitable name calling. If you've been paying any attention at all for the last 7 rounds, you might have noticed that at least two teams (McLaren & Ferrari) have been behind the eight ball vis-Г -vis catching up with 2009 rules changes and what that portends for each team.

Ferrari has gained some ground, but McLaren - not necessarily just Hamilton or Kovalainen themselves - are still struggling. It's got to be obvious to even the most obtuse that Hamilton hasn't gone from - what did you call it? Oh yeah - champ to chump in half a season. Of course, some might feel good name calling and downing that which they could never, in their wildest dreams, ever have hopes of achieving.

WOW - do you know what really sounds dodgy to me, mate? Some of the immaturity that seems to rage here by many who post both questions and answers.

EDIT: Bozo's dummy is called Bozo Jr, as I'm certain Allan now knows more about than I do...dsl xbox live
  • Which sport is easier to be a participant?

    May be...

  • bowling
  • a) Baseball
    b) Football
    c) NASCAR
    d) Hockey
    e) Basketball
    f) Bowling
    g) Fishing
    h) Off-road racing

suggested category: Health > Fashion > Good Taste
  • Bowling balls are heavier than fishing poles. As long as you're not going after big fish, fishing has got to be the easiest. Any "sport" you can do while drunk isn't too hard.
  • From easiest to toughest:
    Bowling
    Fishing
    Off-road racing
    Baseball
    Basketball
    Football
    Hockey
    NASCAR
  • Most of these sports only require 1 ball
  • Bowling and any of the team sports. Racing and fishing require expensive equipment.break phreaking

NASCAR nation...has technology ever failed you?

    May be...

  • And prevented you from seeing the race?

I had my DVR set to record last night so I could go out and enjoy the festivities...but dang! no race was recorded.

I watched the last few laps, and Jr's crash on you-tube, but it's just not the same.
  • Technology in in a nascrap question, how ironic...
  • Nope, I was AT the race. But NASCAR isn't very tech-savvy.
  • Yeah, I lost interest in NASCAR after they introduced the COT, it is just not the same racing anymore, not nearly as competitive. Oh, wait, wrong technology. Yeah, we had a storm during a race we were recording some years back, the satellite went out and fried the unit.
Missed everything for two whole days because we were at Brickyard. We wanted to see if we could see ourselves on the tube, *sigh*
  • Our satellite signal craps out when it storms here. I've missed A LOT of racing because of that, including some exciting finishes. It sucks.
  • Put the beer bottle down and sit in front of you're TV. Then you will not put yourself in that dilemma.
Honestly though I did the same thing and opted not to watch the follow the leader racing that is so often the case of late. I just bummed I didn't get to see the last 10 laps. That's about all these races are good for anymore!!!32kg to pounds
  • Can you find the F1 link between...?

    May be...

  • Damn that was a clever link. Too late as usual, well done Eric, Allan and rosbif :)
  • A.
    1. The 1988 San Marino GP
    2. Fernando Alonso
    3. Pierluigi Martini

    B.
    1. John Miles
    2. Bernie Ecclestone
    3. Ron Dennis
  • Thats a good one...
A: Adrian Campos? Competed in the 1988 San Marino GP and was dropped later in the season for Martini. Adrian also gave Fernando his first test in a race car.

B: Jochen Rindt. John Miles was number 2 behind Jochen, Ron was Jochen's mechanic at Cooper, and I think Bernie was his manager when he died at Monza
  • I'm thinking A. might be Adrian Campos. 1988 San Marino was his last F1 start (he finished 16th), he failed to qualify for the next 3 GP's and was replaced with Pierluigi Martini. The Alonso link is that he drove for Campos in the Spanish Movistar Nissan series in '99. Campos may also have managed Alonso to some extent during his early career.palm iiixe keyboard
