What do you think matt and katie kenseth do in the off season?

May be...

  • Sleep in
  • Probably snow skiing and visiting family. That's what they did last year during the off season and then they also did a lot of testing at the track too. Aso I don't think Jessi is a tr0ll. She just posts questions that are against the guidelines is all. Everyone does that every once in a while.

Here is you something to read.

Matt Kenseth and his former crew chief Robbie Reiser will be signing autographs on Saturday December 22nd at the Matt Kenseth Fan Club Store in Cambridge, Wisconsin. You must have a wristband in order to get an autograph. 600 wristbands total will be given out beginning at 9 AM CT and autographs are scheduled to begin at 12 PM CT. The actual store will not open until 10 AM CT on that day. For more information about this event, please visit the Official Matt Kenseth Website at MattKenseth.com.

  • From what I have read from his website not a whole lot. They are going to be in Wisconsin for the holidays and going snowmobiling. Here is the "Ask Matt" from his website.

  • same as the rest of the drivers and thier wives/girlfriends...they live their lives. Like any other couple.
  • they fluff alot

  • Who's happy that Jenson Button got fired?

    May be...

  • http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News... i am.
  • He hasn't been fired but i'm glad he is out of a drive (temporarily). if only it was lewis hamilton. that would be the best news in the world i would have heard in all my life.
  • He hasn't been fired.
  • I'm not happy that either Honda driver lost their seat. Barrichello is always fun to watch in and out of the car and Button is just as good. Fired would be if they broke team rules or something. But they just lost their seat. thats all
  • well theres a chance left from them to have a drive with a few teams.
  • he didnt get fired... Honda folded their tent... tis a sad day for racing fans...wisbar suites
  • What kind of training does someone in a Nascar pit crew go through?

    May be...

  • Nowdays, most of the teams have trainers and coaches for their pit crews. Not only do they work on their physical conditioning, they time and video tape the stops from the races and then critique individual performance in much the same way football teams do. They practice a lot, to keep muscle memory sharp and to make it 2nd nature to them. With the cars being much closer these days, great pit stops are one of the best ways to gain spots on the track.

  • Weight lifting, go out and practice changing tires and etc trying to get a faster time.
  • Work at a gas station or Jiffy Lube for a couple of months.

  • They have practices that are vigorous. There work-out schedule is probably similar to that of a NFL player.lufstansa airline

How do you think Kyle Busch will do next year in Cup?

    May be...

  • My guess is he'll fall out of the top 35 after 5 races and then struggle to make races. He'll end up racing at local short tracks by season end. :)
  • I think he will do well. I think his team will find out what went wrong with those races in the beginning of the chase so that he can compete all season instead of just the first 26 races, and then fizzles out the last 10.
  • I don't think he will win as much races as he did in '08, but he should be a championship contender and finish in the Top 5 in points. I think it will be a good year.
  • I think he will do pretty good. However,I don't believe he will have the kind of season that he had this year.I believe he will win a few races, make the Chase, and finish in the top 5 in points.
  • I think he will be a threat for the championship once again but he needs to concentrate on the Cup Series if he is to have a chance at winning it. Not that he couldn't run SOME Nationwide and truck races, just not as many as he did last year.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • Well the kid can drive so I think he will do great. Maybe not 8 or more wins but who knows. I also believe that he will not only make the chase but I think will be a contender for the Championship.!! whoo hoo. :0)
  • 4 wins, it'll be a good season for him. No championship.
  • He will probably not have as many wins as this year
  • I agree with trego. Running the Nationwide series might have an effect on his cup series performance but there is no denying that he will do great in 2009. He's already proven his success in 2008. Some teams have hit up on some good setups so I don't see him being as dominate but again he's a threat.
  • Probably stick near the top ten in points. Not have as many wins. And when the chase get closer he is going to be fighting to make it in. His DNF will be higher, putting even more pressure on him. Hopefully he'll mature some and be able to handle the pressure. That is the Cup side, in Nationwide, he'll do fine. Probably be a fight between him an Carl for that championship. That is my optimistic thoughts, but for some reason I have a feeling he is going to get injured and miss some races. But I don't want to be wishing harm to anyone, so lets just hope there are no injuries next year for all three divisions.
  • Kyle is going to do just fine in 09 if not better than this year. 2008 is going to be hard to beat but I think he can do it and will do it.
  • Probably not as good as this year, but not that far from it at the same time. With all the other teams getting a year to catch up to the COT on the tracks.
  • I hope a little more consistent.

Not flash and burn like this year.
  • Who really cares. He got lucky at the begining of the year because all other teams did not have enough time on all the tracks with the COT. You see what happened when everyone else caught up, he was just an average to good driver. He drives to recklessly to be a constant contender. He may win 3 races but that is about it. He will make the chase but not make the top 5. There are much better drivers on the circuit than him.
  • Won't finish in the top twelve in points. He has to mature-when things go wrong, just suck it up and try again. He's a whiner. He did good for 2008, a terrific season. He should prepare himself now for not having things the same way in 2009. It all averages out.activesync profiles
  • How do you think Ryan Newman will do at Haas next year?

    May be...

  • I think with Tony on his team he will do great things.
  • I think he will do better in HMS sattelite cars than he did in those Dodges he's been driving for too long now. No Dodge has a shot at a championship and they would be lucky to get one in the chase.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • I think him and Tony Gibson is going to be a perfect match with each other. I sense a chemistry between the two. I'll even predict he will finish higher in points than Tony Stewart by the end of the season.
  • I am not sure. He really hasn't been doing that great except of course for the Daytona 500 win which took everyone by surprise.
I think he will do just "OK"...not anything great...he won't make the chase but Tony will. Thats my opinion.
  • It may be a little rocky at first.

But I think he will do just fine.
  • I think it'll be trying year. New team, sponsor, crew chief, manufacturer, etc. I hope does well though.
  • I think Stewart-Haas will do horrible most of the season. Things will start looking up toward the end of the season.
  • Madame Speaker, I think Ryan will do ok in 2009. I don't think he will make the chase but that's just view of it. Having Hendrick resources the Stewart/Haas team should be in good hands.
  • I think Ryan will have a reasonable amount of success this coming season.
  • My thoughts, he's gonna surprise a lot of people. Not at first, it will be an adjustment but with Smoke and the way his team is coming together, HMS engines there's a lot of surprises coming our way. I really think Rocket Man is going to be a lot more comfortable and will do just fine. I'm excited for both Tony & Ryan.
  • I think he will have 1 win and will finish 15th or so.
  • arownd 20th
  • I think he will be a lot better than he has been !foucous
  • How will dale earnhardt jr do 2009?

    May be...

  • Championship!!
  • 2 wins.....6th in points.
  • 4wins
A possible championship, if he doesn't win he will finish second or third to Mark Martin or Carl Edward.
  • 2 wins
    the shootout
    Gatorade 125

    9th in points
  • If he can shake the "doom and gloom" bit he was in for 98% of 2008, I can see a 4-5 win season.

If he's still stuck on "doom and gloom" pretty much same ol' same ol'

Something is weighing very heavily on Jr. and it seems to be taking a toll on him.
That's not meant to be spiteful, it's just what I see.
  • About the same but with 1 or 2 more wins
  • I am taking note, then hitting Vegas.

My prediction, 3 wins, Chase but he finishes around 7th.
  • 2 wins - 7th in points.
  • 2 wins, no championship.

    6th in points.
  • 4 or 5 wins.

Championship I am keeping my fingers crossed.
If not, 2nd or 3rd in points.
  • Two wins, finish fifth . No championship2009, maybe 2010.
  • 3 Wins starting with the Daytona 500, and finish top 5 in the chase. Now if he wins the championship, thats just awesome.

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • 1-2 wins. 5th in final standings.
  • I think a top 3 finish in points and possibly 5-7 wins.
I rootin for Jr. and Tony next year
  • Jr will win the next three championships.
  • 2 wins and a top ten point standings finish. I say he ends up with 2 wins 13 top fives and 20 top tens and a final points postion of 7th.
  • I would love to see Junior win about 10 times and the championship, but I agree with Winter Glory, something is weighing him down, so I see maybe 4 or 5 wins and 6th in points.
  • how many wins
will there be a championship? if not where will he finish in the points

god there will be a lot of hate in this question but i had to ask
  • I see 4 wins for 2009, and a real good chance at the Cup. That would really be KOOL!

    *HYPD*
  • His breakout year.

Did you know: Only one driver has won their first Cup championship 10 or more years into their career (Dale Jarrett). Odds aren't too good for Jr. as he enters his 10th season.xbox forums uk

    Nascar Nation.........what do you think?

    May be...

  • It seems like a lot of the regulars have titles or appendages to their names. The green eye of jealousy has bitten me like the mosquitoes that used to hang out in the North Wilkesboro infield. So what do you think should I run for office....like my good friend VP er, I mean the President Tom G. Or should I be Jeff C Leader of the Anti Troll Movement? You know the possibilities are endless. I could be Jeff C QuizMaster...or Jeff C Me Fail at Coming Up with a moniker.
    What do you think???
  • yes president Tom asked me to be secretary of state in his cabinet...all in fun too as I am a secretary, work in government, for the state. :0)
  • pretend your the media
  • Well, you could always circumvent democratic government and name yourself NASCAR King, or you could fully embrace the free market society and call yourself CEO of NASCAR.

    Or

Regional Vice President in charge of NASCAR Trivia
General Manager of the Anti-Troll Division

    OR

Maybe you're a military kind of guy:

General Jeff, Commander in Chief of Short Track Trivia
    Admiral Jeff C, CinCLantFltNAsCar

Or maybe you're a superhero kinda guy!

Short Track Man: Able to successfully predict who will win at Bristol, Martinsville, and Richmond.

Bump Draft Man: Unable to tell you who will win, but can confidently predict who will unsuccessfully bumb draft a teamate in turn 4 and cause the big one.

Truthfully, Jeff, you don't need a moniker for me to pay attention to what you say and ask. You're you and everyone here knows that.

But I personally like "Bump Draft Man" LOL

  • Dude, you can call yourself anything you want, it's just a ceremonial thing.

How 'bout: "Jeff C - Master of Trivia"?
  • Jeff C Leader of the Anti Troll Movement works.
  • Jeff-your trivia questions were the reason why i stayed glued to Nascar Nation when i first came on YA so you are a guru to me. A Trivia god or guru works for me.
  • How about the "Grand Master C"

I was hoping to get the Janitor Job

    "Tina Yahoo Janitor"
  • I like "Nascar's Answer to Paul Harvey". You tend to fill us all in on the "rest of the story". I love reading your answers!
  • OMG!! I hadn't even noticed that they all had little titles under their names. Jeez, I'm the observant one!

    Mine is "WG, Anarchist rebel"
    Oh yeah.....
  • You should go with the Jeff C Me Fail at Coming Up with a moniker. But loose the at Coming Up with a moniker. That would be funny.
  • Secretary of Education is the job for you. You care always educating us with your trivia.
  • How about "Sir Jeff", Master of Trivia; or Jeff C: Emperor of Trivia?

    *HYPD*
  • Whatever Floats your boat....I don't have a title...Is it cause i'm 16 years old?
  • I was jealous of all of the kings, presidents and empresses around here, too. Not being much for politics, I simply became a madame. lol
Obviously, I'm terrible at coming up with catchy names, but Jeff C QuizMaster sounds good. Or Jeff the Trivia King.
You can call yourself whatever you want, as long as you keep the trivia coming. I love your trivia questions! You keep us on our toes. : )dumb joke maintenance man
  • GEM-Petty merger............?

    May be...

  • Looks pretty much over...

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/rumors/po...
  • Keep the Evernham "E" on the 9, 10, and 19. Keep the Petty 43 design just for that car, for historic sake.
  • Nah lets not change it. I am a traditionalist.
  • kyle said NOOOOO!!!!!!!!
  • Well, the Petty #43 has been around almost as long as NASCAR has. I like the #43 the way it is, but if the #43 looks good with the "E", then I'd like to see it. It would make sense to have it if it was considered a part of Evernham. I think that Evernham has some of the best numbers in NASCAR, mainly because of your #19 avatars lol.
  • GO BIG E , so now it's GEMTTY WhaHoo!!!

    GO TEAM GEMTTY
  • Richard Petty will make sure that the #43 will revert back to the "Petty Blue" of years past. Kyle's idiocy at running the company made the paint available to any company with a check and this is the opportunity to make a legendary car right once again.
  • Petty. How can you remove that name?
  • Wow Tom and I on the same team????!!!! That'd be great in my opinion! Definitely wouldn't want anything to change on the #43 style numeric...but with Ray out of the picture now none of the cars may have the "E". He just bought the dirt track next to my old stomping grounds....from what I hear he's done with running a CUP team. Wants to focus on family and take a breather...except when he's on ESPN. So who knows all of the #s may take on the Petty script. It could happen.....????
  • No the 43 will be around till the end of time. Ray Erernham isn't even running the team any more. So why would they put and E on the back of the cars.
  • Looks pretty much official so here is the question. Keep the Petty 43 design or tack an Evernham "E" on the back like all the other numbers? I say the Evernham "E" should be on all Evernham cars.
  • I think the #43 should be retired if not part of the Petty organization. That number has been apart of alot of special things in our sport.
Think of it this way, should there be a Evernham E tacked onto the #3?pontiac sunfire check engine
  • A little NASCAR bragging trivia anyone?

    May be...

  • Richard Petty and David Pearson have a higher winning percentage and the same amount of championships or more.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • How many drivers have more/equal championships AND a higher winning percentage than Jimmie Johnson?????
  • 2

Earnhardt and Petty would be my guess.
  • Well, you already have the answer, it was Richard Petty & David Pearson. Trego is just way too quick along with EMiller1 & Tall Man. I think they have a homing device on Nascar questions with an alarm as soon as a question is posted! Lol They are way to quick.
  • Trego beat me to it. Dang it, Im getting way to slow.
  • 0?
  • Earnhardt, Petty and Gordon have more championships.
Equal champs, to Waltrip, Pearson, Lee Petty, Yarabourgh,
Petty, Pearson and Glenn "Fireball" Roberts have higher winning percentage.
Fireball has the highest winning percent in NASCAR at 24%.
  • You know I would have thought that Darrell Waltrip would be in there somewhere.
  • 2 - Richard Petty and David Pearson

    Jimmie Johnson
    40 wins / 255 starts = 15.7%
    3 championships

    Richard Petty
    200 wins / 1145 starts = 17.5%
    7 championships

    David Pearson
    105 wins / 574 starts = 18.3%
    3 championships?
  • 2 drivers

    Richard Petty and David Pearson
  • Strictly a guess but Im going with Jeff Gordon.fathers-day-gardening-gifts

Why wont f1 race it laguna seca or a oval track?

    May be...

  • Laguna Seca has safety issues, when an F1 car goes off track, it does so with immense violence and Laguna Seca is not conducive to that.
    A great track though !

    Ovals ?
F1 cars are designed to be driven on roads with varying direction changes.
  • some years ago they inspected laguna seca to to host a possible usgp... with minor revisions mainly in the run off areas the track could be considered fit for F1 cars...however the rest of the facilities were not up to par...recommendations were made but were never made... so it was not considered again...Meanwhile in indy mr tony was all too willing to accept and make the revisions F1 wanted... but after rseveral years, financially it was not successful ( not helped by that michelin debacle )...

F1 on ovals ?... i dont see the point of left turn only racing and these cars are not designed for those kind of tracks...
  • F1 vs. Oval track - wouldnt be good racing, the cars are made specifically for cornering... it would be entertaining.

F1 vs. USGP? I dont think F1 would go to Laguna Seca (due to extreme elevation changes), however Ecclestone to expect a race by 2010, they have "...narrowed it down to 4 or 5 tracks."

I could see them racing Mid-Ohio or Road America. I really hope they keep F1 off the Pacific Coast.10 2007 evolution mitsubishi
  • Ok Awards Banquet Trivia time----can you name everyone on stage?

    May be...

  • Now for those of you who know me...know that I love the history of this sport. So I want to throw this question at ya....it will require some digging in the history books. Can you name everyone on stage in 1985? DW won the championship...can you name everyone (2-10 in points) who appeared on stage? For a potential tie breaker...can you name my then favorite driver??? Some fans said (and still say) he was all wet....but to me he was a great driver.
  • No I can't, sorry, I was bathing Foxy Grandpa
  • I love Trivia!

  • In Grand Prix's wouldn't it better if they had to run to their cars like they did in the 20's...?

    May be...

  • yes i agree completely thanks v much for the question im glad to see that someone else agrees with me!!
  • Wasn't that at Le Mon but yep good idea!
  • I would watch it then!
  • At LeMans in the 20s, the sports cars ( if you can call a truck like Bentley a SC) had to carry all their tools and spare parts IN the car, along with extra weight to simulate passengers, and only the driver could make repairs........
  • Yeah, if they have to run through an assault course with like monkey bars, and tightropes. It could turn into survival of the fittest!

Then they get into the cars, and have to do a car assault course. Then they do the actual race.

Hahaha, then we will see who the real champion is
  • yep
  • It would be absolute chaos
The slower runners would get flattened by cars leaving the pits.
The cars themselves would crash into each other.
The Germans would be throwing towels over other cars.
Alonso Ponso would be blocking the whole pit lane while he put his make up on.
    It would be mayhem.
In fact just what F1 needs to make it interesting.
Lets hope that Bertie Fincklestein reads this and implements it for next season.
  • Much better, they should do that though I wouldn't trust a cad like Alonso not to employ dirty tricks like tying a rivals shoe laces together or sticking his leg out or something like that. Its time we found out who the fastest really is!
  • why do u think they have beautiful models carrying flags in front of the cars?
  • I'd go with Bossco's idea! It coudl be called the 'Grand Triathalon Prix'!!
  • Everything would be better if we did it like they did in the '20's. I long for a flapper girl.

  • Sadler fans, all two or three of you, big news...?

    May be...

  • I'm happy for all two or three of the Sadler fans :)
Good luck to Elliott and his crew next season, he deserves it.
  • Yes I am too Tom. I still think RC could have been given more of a chance but TP will be real good and I certainly look forward to seeing Elliot in Victory Lane this coming season. In fact he is one of the 10 I have predicted (so far) to be in the Chase. Watch and see!!! I see good things for our boy there!!
  • That will be great for Elliott . The dude can drive he just needs someone to set the car up but I would still like to see him in a Chevy !
  • Yes, I am excited. Todd is a great crew chief.
  • Jayski has Todd Parrott rumored to be Elliott's new crew chief in 2009. He was the ma behind the 2004 season where he got two wins and finished 9th in the standings and turned Yates around last year. Are you excited about this news?
  • Wow Tom, that would be great for your team! Loved it when we had him for the limited amount of time we did on the #43 team....cried for days after he left. If he would have stayed I am confident the #43 would have already won by now. Very exciting news and hope it works out in your favor.
  • All 2 or 3 of them, whaatttt......I adore Elliott and I think most people like him, how can you not? He's a great driver, stand-up guy and funny as all get out.

Yes, I am thrilled with the news and I do wish Elliott luck next year, he deserves a great year.
  • That sounds cool Mr.PREZ! Now we need Reed to step up the # 10 car, and TEAM GEM is on their way!!!

    WAHOO!!!

    GO TEAM GEM!!!
  • Maybe this will bring Elliott some well deserved luck. I wish him the best of luck next year and all his years in Cup to come.
  • Woohoo!

This is great news! I was having a sucky day until this moment. I might see Elliott win and make the Chase again! Woohoo!
  • awww another driver/crew chief reunion. thats great, good for all the sadler fans!
  • Well that sounds great for you all. Hopefully Sadler will have a great year next year. He really deserves to have a come back year. I would really love to see him win a couple of races next year. And being in the chase wouldn't be to bad either.
  • lol all two 3 of u..i think it would be cool hopefully jr wins before for our bet

    wink wink
  • That sounds good. Elliott has been due for a win and being a chase contender for a long time now. I hope he gets Parrott and has a good year. I've been thinking of rooting for everyone at GEM next year- Kasey, Elliott, and Reed. I hope they all do well in '09!
  • Should be good news for Sadler. He won two races with Todd in 2004 and made the Chase. Hopefully he can do the same at GEMewr to las
  • What nascar driver are you most like?

    May be...

  • I have to say with my temper, I would say TONY STEWART. But, I can also be a nice person--what some people would call a "class act"--so I can be like KASEY KAHNE, too. Therefore, I would have to say I am a mixture of the two.
  • Im gonna say...Kyle Busch. if I compete at something, I go all out. I want to be the best and get seriously competitive. Maybe a lil smoke under the hood at times too... LOL
  • Not sure, but my guess would be Brian Vickers. He's just an all around nice guy that doesn't cause any trouble, like me.
  • Dale Jr. probably. Seriously. Not just saying that because he's my favorite driver either.
  • Hmm.....goofy, hates to be wrong, a bit obnoxious, prone to mood swings, antagonistic, smarta$$, good-hearted underneath it all, 23 years old. (In spirit)
    I'm just like Kyle :)
  • Elliott Sadler, that's why I like him.
  • Hmmmm let me think. I am a quiet person, Don't make any waves, gets along with every body I meet, loves to talk. hmmmmm, I would say I am a little of Junior, (quiet) Burton (making waves) and Kenny Wallace (loves to talk).
  • tony stewart when i get pissed i tell it like it is

and ive trashed goodyear a couple times too

    not a couple

    a lot : )
  • Scott Speed. I think he will do very well next year.
  • I'm quiet and retiring like Kenseth seems to be. Mark Martin and I seem to share the same values. But I'm also moody and sarcastic at times like Stewart, though I hate to admit it :).
  • Jeff Burton and Mark Martin. Both are great drivers and are great leaders for the sport
  • jorge ramos. He is part of the mexican driver and uh you know mmm i love these good and plentys
  • I'd have to say little bit of cousin Carl (happy go lucky) little bit of Smoke (theirs always that edge) A lot of Kyle (crazy and I love it) Oh, and I cant forget the guts of Juan Pablo (he don't care who you are, He's not going to back down)

And with all that you have THE KING!
  • carl edwards and i pretty much have an identical personality, it's kind of scary. thats one of the many reasons i like him.
  • well, with my temper...Tony
  • You felt sorry for me because I'm ugly didn't you? Thanks for the best answer. Report Abuse
  • I think I am most like Tony Stewart...I have my dark and brooding moments, maybe a touch of sarcasm....but upbeat too. And I think I have the devil may care attitude of Tony and Kyle B. So I say those two.
  • Probably more like Dale Jr. I am laid back and love to hunt and fish.
  • Dale Jr. What you see is what you get with me. I'm pretty straight forward most of the time.end of infinity

  • NASCAR HISTORY QUESTION----?

    May be...

  • Jimmie Johnson won his 3rd straight championship this year tying Cale Yarborough who accomplished the same feat in the 70's. So here is my question what do they have in common in accomplishing these feats? Here's a clue they have more than2 things in common. Dig deep in your history books---it's a somewhat easy question.
  • Jimmie Johnson’s past performances are close to Yarborough’s. From 2006 through 2007 Johnson won 15 races and had 48 finishes among the top 10. In 1976-77, Yarborough won 18 races and piled up 50 finishes among the top 10. In 2008 there numbers are again almost identical.

They both won 3 Championships in a row, exactly 30 years apart with Yarborough 76-78 and Jimmie 06-08.

They both are charge to the front type drivers

They both dominated NASCAR in thier Era's.

  • Besides the years matching (6, 7 & 8) I think it was 7 wins in the third championship year.
  • chevy and years ending 6, 7, and 8
  • There's no comparation, Cale Yarborough EARNED his championships but Jimmie Johnson bought his way into a ride and a championship.
  • Ya maggie beat everybody to it.
  • I am going to search but first I want to say HI to my old NASCAR Trivia friend!!!! Welcome back!!!

    Championships match up 30 years apart. Cale's were '76, '77 and '78 and Jimmie's championships have been '06, '07 and, 08.
    Confidence and dominance.???

P.S. and your trivia was never 'somewhat easy"...LOL

  • What was nascar racing like in the 80's?

    May be...

  • it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There were no gay drivers racing back then, only REAL men.
  • Drivers were allowed to be themselves and didn't worry about being "PC", lots of bumping and grinding, petal to the metal and hauling butt!
  • I did not start watching it until 1991.
  • A lot more of the cars banging off each other for position.

Speeds were getting out of control. Hence, restrictor plates.

I personally think it was much more competitive back then, not so many damned rules.

1979, the fight at Daytona really brought NASCAR into everyone's living room.
  • The driver EARNED their rides, wins and championships back in the 80's . Unlike today $$$$ MONEY $$$$ buy you wins and championships. The racing was better and driver raced hard week after week. None of this coasting to a championship. Now you wonder why the stands are empty and the ratings are down?? No one likes today's nascar. It has become a big time joke.
  • 10 times better than now
  • When a driver said he was going to put another driver into the wall, no one got their knickers in a knot over it, that I remember.
It's safer now, that I like. It's just become too darn politically correct.
And some of the fans that celebrated that spirit 20 years ago, frown upon it now.
  • In the 80s I was much into the heavy metal seen, ( way to many friends had bands) so I didn't watch to much racing, but i would aspect nothing but good "FAST" rubbing racing, like it always has been!!!
  • To me the 80's were the best decade in NASCAR.

Started off with Nationally televised races; the King's 200th win; the rise of the Intimidator; the rise of the speeds and introduction of the restrictor plates; the competition was fierce. And yes even if you had one car, one team, and your shop was a barn you could still run up front and even win consistently. It was a great time in racing. Just an opinion as always.
  • I never watched it and wish that I had now. I look at old clips and it was awesome. Sure wish that they could race that way today.
  • Lots of big hair and big mustaches. The drivers had a different personality than they do now. Their wasn't near the money then than there is now. Alot of beating, banging, fighting and pushing the "gray" parts of the rulebook. From what i seen of it in the 80's it was awesome then too.
  • Just as ridiculous as it is now.
  • the racing was ten times better and drivers had a personality, todays rules and such have ruined a great sport
tickets were cheap and drivers wanted to win for the money it paid not getting paid to much first. i sure do miss seeing to guys bang it out on the track and then in the garage or anywhere, most of the guys today would have never made it

No Little Jr. in New York, how sad? Do you think he was missed?

    May be...

  • Yes, I'm sure that he was missed. (By "Little Jr.", I assume you mean Dale Earnhardt, Jr.)
He probably didn't miss all of the pomp and circumstance, though. He didn't have to dress up in a monkey suit, have his picture taken a gazillion times, or make a speech. And he still got paid crazy money. That ain't too sad. lol
  • I'm sure he was missed but it's not the first time he has missed it either. He missed it in 2005 and 2007 because he did not make the chase
  • yes he will

  • NO WAY
  • Ya he will be missed.

And he is making his dad proud. He moved out of his dads company. Which is going to collapse within maybe a 5 year period. Because Teresa is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE team owner. But now hes with a winning team. Making his own legacy away from his fathers team and away from his name. Creating his own legacy and own name. No he won't be like his father. He won't win 76 races and 7 championships. But he won the Daytona 500 in his 5th season and has 18wins. Hes finally found a team he can win races and possibly championships. So lay off. Quit critizing him on his every move, just cause hes not as great as his dad. Who cares.
  • i wouldn't miss him, but im sure some poeple would
  • I know I missed him and I'm sure others did too! and whether you think so or not he is making his daddy proud.
  • Like he cares, he's checking out Australian hotties, then racing a V8 Supercar race this week, and you're doing what exactly.
  • Nope. Hamlin made it on stage and he will be up there next year with Logano and thats all that matters.
  • Like a 20 oz. ball pein hammer over the top of my head. lol
  • it's not like it's his first time missing the awards banquet, he should be used to it.
  • The top 12 should go to New York. They all made the Chase. Or better yet, make the Chase only 10 drivers.
  • Go back to the football section, my friend.

That's where you got your TC badge, correct?

*It's not you I'm frustrated with, it's these trolls lately. Like KK, for whatever reason (I checked the questions he asked) sent me a rather questionable email. I checked and checked, and I find no evidence of me bashing his questions, or anything. I'm not going to report or reply to him, but things like those really do frustrate me. Sorry I had to take it out on you.*compuserve email accounts
  • What's your favourite circuit either already on the F1 calender or one that has been in the past?

    May be...

  • I know alot of people love Moncao and for the technical driving and sheer spectacle I like it as well, but my personal favourite is probably the old style Hockenheim. Long long straights through a lush forest into slow chicanes allowed for some good overtaking every now and again and it was the first course I ever drove in a racing sim (Grand Prix 2).

  • NГјrburgring. awesome
  • Monzaaa!
    Albert Park
    Hungaroring
  • i like silverstone as its british, but i like the australian one it always delivers the best, i've been to see the british grand prix and i love it, the atmosphere is immense. but i guess hockenheim is good to :):)
  • Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours
Many can say it is a boring race because of the very rare overtaking and it is true. Still I am a huge fan of this track and I was upset when I knew it won't be returning for the 2009 season and that's why:
    1- Two fast Chicanes
2- Prominent kerbs leading cars to bounce sometimes and requires skills at qualifying.
3- The shortest pit-lane causing some unusual strategies.
4- Nice scenes without the forests.
5- If it rains the race gets very interesting
6- Ferrari usually gets one-two there.

A close second is Carlos-Pace at Sao Paulo

Third is Turkey's Istanbul Park Circuit (Turn 8 leading to the main straight is awesome)

BTW: My first win in a sim game came in France.
  • My favourite circuit is probably Suzuka. So many great corners, the snake section, spoon curve, 130R.

    Spa would be second.
  • Loving Eau Rouge in Spa

Biggest Kimi raikkonen fan so how can i not love Spa, the master of Eau rouge, drive it flat out.

    Brill circuit.

However if were talking about PS2 F1 games i like italy- Monza. Easiest circuit to drive around love the parabolica (can't spell)

  • Spa, although the Bus Stop isn't as much fun as it used to be.
  • I liked Ostereichring. Pure unadulterated filthy hardcore porn of a racing track.
That dip and rise on the start finish straight makes me chuckle when i think of it being outlawed by the powers that be of today.
  • I do have a soft spot for Monaco but for me its gotta be Brazil. The atmosphere's amazing and i love the Senna S Corner, the overtakes there are brilliant! and the fact that its anti-clockwise, its like no other track on the calendar.
  • Suzuka
  • .

I remember being on my mobile to my friend at 3.30 in the morning, swopping fastest lap times years ago, driving Grand Prix 2 at Hockenheim!! Excellent!!

I still miss Brands.....probably cos I attended my first GP there with the chief photographer of Autocar. Awesome!

    .
  • The Old Nurburgring was amazing, One lap was about 14 miles and 172 turns. It was remarkable when Nick Lauda in his McLaren ran over a Deer in official qualifying.

Other circuit that was amazing is the Old Brands Hatch, the car went airborne on the chicane.

Anyway favorite circuit is subjective to taste but certainly the best circuits are in the past. FIA spoiled all the fun by forcing almost every circuits to add chicanes and slower corners to its original much faster and Cooler track.

  • Silverstone, Spa and Monaco are my 3 favourites. I'll be gutted when F1 is no longer at Silverstone.oseola

  • When, what time, and where is the nascar awards banquet?

    May be...

  • The 2008 Banquet is on Friday, December 5th at 9:00PM eastern with TV coverage on ESPN Classic. It is located in the Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Ballroom in NYC.
  • Gordon Fans answer is right.

Which in turn makes Fire Storm's answer right.
  • Fire Storm said it all.
  • Fire storm got you the answer.

  • What did you think looses and tight meant before you learned the real meaning?

    May be...

  • Loose: Totally dialed in. "He's (on the) LOOSE off turn 4!"

Tight: Let's add some wedge? lol Those video games never really helped.

Once,I thought the wedge was the rear spoiler, you know, the way it was shaped. I thought the spoiler was something that came out the exhaust.

Ah yes, to hear Benny Parson on the Nintendo say,
    "That's the wrong wayyy!!"
    or...
    "Man, oh man, oh man!!!"
    or...
    Bob Jenkins say,
(in a robot voice) "ThAt's his fAStest lap yet!"
  • I played a lot of Nascar on PS2 before I ever cared to watch one of the races on tv. So I was familiar with the concept going in. Plus the announcers have to describe what it means every single time they mention it.
  • <--------- (Dufus)At first when I started watching Nascar and becoming a fan I thought they were talking about their seat belts. The internet wasn't popular when I first started watching so there was nothing really to research stuff like there is now.
  • Thinking back, I would have to agree with you. And even the reporters still made it difficult to understand. Or maybe I'm that slow! LOL!
  • *ahem* no NASCAR fans in NY????
You can be the light in that sorry and sad world that they live in. lol

yeah I too thought it meant the wheels...like they wobbled when "loose" because lugnuts weren't on tight enough or something. Long ago...before learning the real term...when someone said they were "loose' I thought..."he better get in the pits before he loses that wheel and wrecks'. LOL

hey ya learn as ya go right???
  • all the terminology confused me, but with great guys like Kenny W. we all learn real fast.
  • loose was my wrangler jeans. tight was my boxer briefs.
  • I though it meant a wheel was loose or on too tight. I had to learn everything myself. There's no Nascar fans here in NY. Lol

What terminology confused you the most when becoming a fan?
  • Must be you city folks that don't understand "loose and tight". I've always known what the term loose and tight meant.
  • i dont remember not knowing what it meant
i could have said something about a certain something but even as a kid i knew that term
  • I thought loose and tight referred to my prom date!
  • I know that before I knew Nascar.
  • sticker tires and scuff tires. I still don't know what they mean.
  • I honestly didn't think anything of it.
  • I had an advantage .....I worked at a Chevy dealership and worked with the mechanics getting their parts for about 20yrs. I learned a lot of terms about a lot of things pertaining to cars. Also growing up around racing helped a lot too. When I first started, I have to admit that I thought loose & tight meant the power steering. Lol
  • I thought that loose and tight were different degrees of being drunk. : )how do i sync my palm with lotus notes
