NASCAR NATION- What do you think of the top 35 rule?

May be...

  • It is absolutely necessary to fill the field at every track.. They owe it to the fans, and they owe it to the race tracks that have a hard time filling the stands.. How many underfunded teams would truck out to the west coast, or up north to Loudon, or Watkins Glen without it?? Dale Earnhardt didn't start any road races during two Championship runs.. Even legendary teams like the Wood Bros, with David Pearson never ran more than the highest paying twenty races, or so to save money..
So NASCAR made a rule.. To keep the field full at tracks that didn't offer much money, they offered points.. Another rule said 43 cars must start every race, or they won't race.. The only way they could make that happen was the top 35 rule, and that made those point more important than money.. Without that there would be no NASCAR today.. And every single one of you should know that, because it didn't happen very long ago in NASCAR history..
  • I'm old school, they never had it back in the day, and they can dump it anytime they want to. Fastest 43 race no matter who you are. Dump the past champion thing also, if you are a past champion you should know how to qualify. Nascar is just looking out for the big teams, it sux. The top 35 is just a wasted rule, Petty, Yarborough and Pearson didn't have it so why do these drivers need it today.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • It's NASCAR's way of kissing their golden boys butts, nothing more, nothing less.

Heaven forbid Jeff, Jimmie, Jr. Tony or whoever doesn't make it into the show..
  • I'm OK with the rule. I might argue 35 is too many but I think you have to protect against the top names and teams missing the race because of something silly that might happen on Friday. If you changed to a fastest 43 race period, I think you'd have to change the qualifying format. You could run for an hour and go by fastest time sort of like MotoGP does. But do we want to send a Jr or Tony Stewart home because a minor part failed two days before the race started. Also, if you didn't guarantee these teams a spot, they would have to spend more resources and money on qualifying. The same old guys would make the show and the same old folks would go home. So why put the teams through that. Don't think for a second that qualifying times and order wouldn't be the same if every team had to qualify. For example, if you see Boris Said beat Jimmie Johnson on Friday now, you wouldn't see that under the other scenario. There's a reason why this occasionally happens on Friday but almost never on Sunday.
  • I do not like it. Let the 43 fastest race.
  • drop it to teh top 25 thjen the next 15 fastest then a new twist a 25 lap shoot out for the last 3 spots
  • i think that if a go or go homer has a faster time than a driver in the top 35 he should race.
fast times race, slow times go to THE HOUSE!
    just my opinion
  • I have never liked the rule. Prior to its inception, NASCAR had said they wanted to help the smaller, one car teams become more successful, but then they put that rule in place, and started sending those same one car teams home every weekend. How did they help those guys? I think NASCAR should go back to the way it was before that rule. Every car qualifies on speed, with a champion's provisional. The guys in the top 35 easily make the field anyways, so why should they get a break? All they have to do on qualifying day is run a few laps to figure out where their pit stall will be.
  • It served it's purpose when there was the rash of start and drop teams but it needs to be tweaked or go away. It is sicking when a go or go home team qualifies good and does not make the show. Like that farce when a go or go home qualified 11th and didn't make the show.
  • I've never liked it. Top 10 should be guaranteed and that's it. Everyone else qualifies on speed. Past champion provisional is fine. If you are slow, you don't belong out there. Load up and try again next week.
  • keep it or let it go, change it to top 30? whats your opinion
  • I like it just fine the way it is. We don't need any more rule changes.sex software
  • Attn: David Reutimann fans....?

    May be...

  • 1-2004
2- David raced with NEMCO for Nationwide and then DW for Truck
    3-17 NTN Berrings Toyota
    4-Toyota Tundra 200- Nashville, Aug 13, 2005
  • Do you want his autograph?

I have a picture he signed, and it doesn't mean that much to me, I don't think it would be worth much on E-bay, because it has been warped by humidity, so I decided that I would give it away to a fan on Y!A.

The picture is 17"x11", and it is titled "The 2006 Toyota Tundra Line Up." It was a promotion for Toyota Motorsports, a year before they made the jump to Cup. It features Ted Musgrave, Bill Lester, David Star, Mike Skinner, Johnny Benson, Todd Bodine, Joey Miller, David Reutimann, and Jack Sprague. On the back, is the 2006 Truck Series schedule, and info on the teams.

I used to work for Toyota and Skinner and Reutimann came to our facility to sign autographs. (The picture is also signed by Skinner) I am bitter about how that job was ended, so this picture means nothing to me. As mentioned, it is warped from humidity, but if you put it in a frame, it would look fine. I figured I'd give it away while David's popularity is on the rise.

First you have to answer these questions, and be willing to e-mail me your address.

    1. David Reutimann was ROTY in the truck series. What year?
    2. What team did David race for?
    3. What was his number in the Truck Series?
    4. What was is first Truck win? (year and track)

All this info is straight from the poster, and any Ruetimann fan should know it. If you don't know it, look it up and learn something about your favorite driver.

I want a true fan to have this, so if you don't care about Reutimann, don't answer the question. First person with the correct answers wins, and I will send the picture free.
  • Aww what a nice thing for you to do. I am just a so so fan but I do know there are a few on here that really like the guy. I hope they answer.strongarm processor
  • Why did A question I asked yesterday get reported then deleted?

    May be...

  • Wow, that seems strange. That makes you wonder about the validity of the fellow NASCAR fans on here and even more about the Yahoo!Answers team. ??????
  • All I asked was who was going to win the 3 races this weekend. I sent an appeal to yahoo and they said after review I did violate. I don't get it. Why would someone report that.
  • the same thing happen to me the other day. i had asked who's ready for the Dover race, and who did everyone pick to win.

the very next day, i found that the question had been removed. i also appealed the violation and also was told i was indeed in violation. they didn't even tell me why. they just said that my question didn't meet the guidelines.

i hate when they do that.
  • They don't review anything. It always comes back as a violation.

Probably just another troll reporting everything.
  • Probably someone with no life. I don't get it either.
  • It's hard to say, my guess is it was the work of our local troll union, but I could be wrong.
  • The biggest violations I see here are chat and not in the form of a question. My guess it was one of those 2. Can't say without seeing it.

Above answer, very wrong. Many violations are won on appeal.

Ah, I think I know. I read the guidelines again, something everyone should do, and if YA deleted it, it was probably for chat. Your question was not, as they call it, knowledge or advice seeking, it was a question that no one would know the answer to. Answers would be guesses or chat.

    That's what I think.
  • Keep your violation and wait until Monday rolls around. I think the process of appeals has been made automated over the weekends. I know Yahoo a little while back had to cut jobs because of the economy and this may have lead to a more automated process. I had to appeal one that was falsely reported 4 times before someone actually looked at the appeal and reinstated my answer.

Anyway appeal it again Monday and if they send it back appeal it again until you win it. I see nothing wrong with the answer myself. The key thing you have to remember when asking questions is you have to ask yourself "Is the question mean to gain knowledge"?

I also know that some of the people at Yahoo are less intelligent than others. They don't know their own rules or either some of them are just drawing a paycheck. That tends to happen with big companies. Anyway wait until Monday and appeal in until you win it. I had to appeal 4 times on my last violation.
    ---
Your question may have been borderline chat as a few say but who's to say you wasn't seeking advice to find out who was "capable" of winning 3 races at Dover? If you explain in the additional details or your appeal the intention of your question then you can win that appeal. I would personally not report anything like that because I wouldn't know what your exact intention was to wanting to know who was "capable" of winning 3 in a row. The knowledge might have been to solve a bet with someone... who knows?

See you could have reworded it to say "Are there any drivers capable of winning 3 races this weekend" or "Which drivers are capable of winning 3 races at Dover" and it would have meant the same thing as your question. It's all in how it was worded. The person reporting should have taken that into consideration and also Yahoo should have as well.

Like I said some of the Yahoo employees are less educated than the others.

In your appeal just tell them that what you was wanting to know was "Which drivers are capable of winning 3 races at Dover". Don't include a lot of extra stuff. Make it quick and easy for the person reviewing the appeal and you'll be more likely to win it. And don't be rude in your appeal.
  • Y/A is supposed to be a user built data base, kinda like wikipedia but in question form.

A question like "Is Sam Hornish going to win sunday?" Is not a valid question and could be removed.

A question like "Has Sam Hornish ever won a Nascar race?" is valid, it has a specific answer and if someone came to Y/A looking for that information they could find it.

Yahoo may have removed it or someone targeting you may have reported it.
  • Dunno, some people can be a total jackass. If I remember correctly, you can like appeal again. Appeal again, cuz it'a a ligit question!
  • Maybe no one did. Yahoo Answers team also decide what to remove and then do so. You don't have to be reported to have your question removed. The fact that you lost the appeal tells me that it was Yahoo Answers team. Usually when someone just reports it the question get put back. Well I never heard of a question that YA removed themselves to get put back. They don't liek to admit they are wrong. It happens all the time on a regular basis to most of us.
  • I've been reported for dumb reasons too. I didn't get it, so I appealed and NEVER won. Y/A people can get pretty bored sometimes I guess.
  • School's out so all I've got to say is one word...KIDS

I've noticed the frequency of immature questions and answers have picked up considerably, including the thumbs down for good and descent answers.I'm sure they'll report a question just to be little smartelics

    May be...

  • Not a bad cover actually. I prefer the Deep Purple version over this any day though.
  • its alright
  • The video is great. The audio featuring Buckcherry is weak. Where the heck is Ian Gillan?

Enjoy the weekend Superdave and Snoopy Rocks!!!!!!
  • I've loved Buckcherry for forever!
Never cared for Deep Purple, I actually prefer the cover more than the original.

    That's just me.

I liked the video, it was pumping.
  • I thought it was great until he started singing.
  • I like it, but I don't like that Nascar on TNT won't use the regular classics. They have to use remakes. Last year it was Hinder with born to be wild. This year, Deep Purple is replaced with Buck Cherry. The sound is cool, but Highway Star will forever be Deep Purple's.
  • I like it...
  • It kinda cool, I don't remember the original version by Deep Purple, I was too busy being a Disco freak during those yrs, but the video looked pretty cool.

Would you be interested in buying one of these NASCAR dolls?

    May be...

  • Why YES i would !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Yikes.

And I thought NASCAR Barbie was bad.
  • Nope sure wouldn't. Can't see those popping up on the shelves uptown Mooresville anytime soon.
  • Coming from someone who's got Smoke and Jr onesies for the pending arrival(a girl none-the-less), I'll pass.
  • no way
  • No.
  • I would buy Jeff's, and maybe Jimmie Mark and Kyles if they were really cute!
  • Yeah, bought two for the Wife a few weeks ago when they were on For Race Fans Only, She wanted both of the JR. Dolls, so whatever the wife wants, the wife gets.
  • oh yes they are so cute and id play with them to.
  • Me personally, no.

But I'd take that lil' baby Smoke fan, he's stinkin CUTE!!
  • Absolutely. I think they should make Cabbage Patch Kid Dolls for every driver. So far I think they may only have Jr. but who wouldn't want a cuddly little Joey Logano???
They also could make them looking a bit more like the driver.

  • Which driver do you "dislike" the most and why?

    May be...

  • Kyle Busch. He's got too big of swelled head. He thinks cuz he's winning that he can just bully everyone else out on the track. And then complain about finishing 2nd. Of course all of the Kyle Busch fans think that all the Jr fans don't like him cuz he's more like Dale Sr than Jr is. Whatever think what you want. Like Jr said, give my dad more credit than comparing him to Kyle Busch.
  • jeff gordon hes a cheater
  • Jr.

Normally I like drivers with that much ego and attitude, but he let his go from being a championship quality driver to being content on field filler status.
    Sad.
  • everyone in NASCAR with the exception of Tony Stewart. He's cute.
  • ....Junior.Has not lived up to his potential.Has the talent to have 2 or 3 championships under his belt, but instead of driving with his talent and ability and heart he is "cruising" along on his fathers shirtail-name,and the most popular driver designation.
  • Okay, I may not dislike Tony Stewart personally, having never met him, but I dislike some of the things he does in racing/on the track. How's that?

I love how people write off his jerk-like behavior as "telling it like it is" and "being passionate about racing." Yet they probably wouldn't cut any other driver slack for acting like he does. If some guy in their workplace or home treated them like Stewart sometimes treats others, they wouldn't be so admiring.
  • I do not like the way Tony Stewart races or conducts himself at the track. He is a titty whiny baby who screams foul any time he can, but yet plays dirty and gets upset when he is called for it.
  • Tony Stewart - He's an *ss....

He takes things way too personally and holds grudges against other drivers and even crew members of other teams.
  • NASCAR, just like a family all pretty much get along except for an occasional skirmish on the track and I am interested to see why some people don't like certain drivers considering 99.9% of you have never met that particular "person"

    This should be interesting.......................
  • Well, like it or not, many people get an image of the driver based on their interviews and such. Also how they conduct themselves on the track. I have issues with David Ragan because he is always wrecking his teammates. There are other drivers I also dislike. I don't need to mention names. I would rather say that I like drivers like Kasey, Carl and Greg because the pictures I get of them are that they are down-to-earth, intelligent, family-centered, decent men. They speak well on camera and act pretty intelligent. And they are pretty darn good drivers!I support a lot of the causes that they support. Greg talks about how his welding abilities financed his entrance to Nascar. Carl talks about how he couldn't afford to get into racing today if he weren't already there. The word "mensch" comes to mind. They are calm and generally laid-back. Good drivers who make me think they are good people.
  • Kyle Busch...He's a cry baby, sore loser and not grown up yet.
  • Jr, its just one excuse after another...first it was "oh he doesnt have the best equipment", and now that he has the best, he still whines. maybe its the DRIVER!!! and he obviously needs glasses or something i dont know how many times he has missed his pit. its pure comedy. I would be embarrassed to be a jr fan! what excuse is next?????

KNOW IT ALL: funny I hardly think 1 mistake over a whole season equals the 2-3 Jr makes every race! missing pit road versus missing your PIT STALL are totally different!
  • jamie mcmurray, he's a prick in person. everyone thinks i hate kyle busch, but that's not true at all, i've gotten his autograph a couple of times and he's always fairly nice to the fans in person. it's some of his obnoxious fans on YA i hate, some of them are so ignorant it's unbearable

hey ammie 24: hasn't junior won the exact same amount of races as jeff gordon since the 2 have been teammates at HMS? and didn't gordon cause a critical late race caution at vegas when he blew a tire slamming on brakes after missing THE ENTIRE PIT ROAD? what's HIS excuse?
  • Jeff gordon cause hes a *****
  • All the ford drivers for promoting there death machines Report Abuse
  • Juan Montoya! He comes off as arrogant and didn't make any friends driving like an idiot his first year. The guy wrecked his own team mate(on purpose) to get a win on a road course.
  • I would have to say I dislike Kyle Bush because of the way he behaves. He bi***** about everything. If anything goes wrong it's someone Else's fault. Because it couldn't be him. Another thing is the way he talks about his brother. You would think he had never met Kurt until about a week ago. He likes to say what a bad driver his brother is when asked about him. But he needs to think that his brother was a camp. He is still just a loud mouth kid that needs to grow up. He thinks he's the best thing in years but I think he will be a lot better when he grows up.
  • I dislike all the chevy and toyota drivers equally.
  • I don’t really have a Nascar driver I dislike. I respect them all for being able to drive in such a competitive, top notch sport. I do have a couple of supposed Nascar fans I dislike, they give Nascar a bad name and reputation.game stars live 2005

  • Get latest sports news, quizes ,update your knowledge ,watch your fevourite match and get several spotts training...

  • Yes i do , He has what it takes.
  • GO DODGE!
  • As a former champion he absolutely has the skills and it would not surprise me at all. If he wins I will not be disgruntled because he is one of my favorite drivers (along with the other 42) every week.

I have not been here very long but the NATION is one cool group with a few exceptions as I can see.
  • If he can keep up the pace of how he did this spring how can he not be? He has done it before and has grown since then so my answer is yes.
  • He is running very well. Anyone who has won at least one championship definitely has what it takes. If it can't be my driver, at least Kurt is in a Dodge. I'd be fine with that.
  • Yes, I do. He's done it before. It wouldn't bother me if he won the championship. I'm tired of the same guy winning it.
  • He's done it once before, so he knows what's necessary to do it again.

Provided he can out-do Mr. The Chase suits me perfectly...er...Jimmie Johnson.
  • Yes he does....He's been there before and he can definitely do it again.
  • Yes he does. He is definetely the most improved driver from last year no doubt. Dodge has the new engine package this year and the Penske Dodges seem to have really gotten better. I can't wait to see how Kahne does this week with his new dodge engine. I wouldn't mind seeing a dodge win the championship. Party at my house if a Chevy driver doesn't win the championship!
  • It would not be a bad thing, but the Blue Deuce is nowhere near strong enough to challenge for the championship. Maybe they'll step it up over the next few months and prove me wrong.
  • No.
  • Im pretty sure he does! :) And if he happens to end up the champ are you going to disgruntled? Thanks for you guys and gals honesty! I love Nacsar Nation!
  • That would be so nice if Nascar driver Kurt Busch could bring a Dodge to the Sprint cup championship for 2009. Do I think he has what it takes. Heck yes. I think his whole team working together has what it takes to be 09 sprint cup champion.
  • Yeah I think he does, very much so!
Naw it wouldn't bother me if he won at all...
  • I would love to see Kurt Busch swoop the series.
Don't really think Jimmie is going to do it again.
The guy who I would be watching is Tony Stewart, he's running up front like he has the best seats at the opera.
You know I predicted Carl Edwards to do the job, but if Kyle doesn't fail in the chase, everyone's hurtin' I will be keeping an eye on Kurt Busch and watching his performances. You really can't tell with the chase though, otherwise I betcha a buck-n-a-quarter Tony Stewart would have already had a couple wins. ...and then there's that Mark Martin guy. Who are you racing against when you get a pole position? That's some awsome race car driving there.
  • Yeah he could but that team is lacking a little consistency right now, but if they get that figured out by the time the chase rolls around then they will be heard from.british celebs forum
  • Is Elliott Sadler the most UNDER-RATED driver in Nascar?

    May be...

  • Elliott Sadler no, Reed Sorendon YES way under-rated
  • The only thing Elliot Sadler has going for him is that he drives a Dodge.
Reed Sorenson has a pretty high rating for getting caught up in a wreck.
At least these guys have a few fans in this forum.
    I can respect that.
But for some of the newer fans, I would say Micheal Waltrip is pretty under-rated.
  • That would be Burton or Kenseth.
  • Reed Sorenson definitely, nobody gives a **** about him...
  • If not him then Reed Sorenson! Thanks!
  • Elliott Sadler - really? He has enough trouble just trying to finish in the top 20 on any given weekend. I think he's lucky that he still has a ride in the Cup series. Underrated is not a word I would use for him.
  • I think a lot of the Nascar drivers are under-rated. Reed Sorenson and Elliot Sadler just to list two of them.
  • I would say yes Sadler is under-rated. I think he is a good driver that just need something. But I agree with a few others Jeff Burton is the most under-rated in Nascar. I really hope at some point Burton gets his turn in the sun.
  • Youve got to be f'n kidding me. Sadler has had his chances
  • Elliott Sadler is a very consistent driver, but in his case, that isn't a good thing. I have been impressed with the improvement Reed Sorenson is showing, though.
  • He certainly is one of them. It saddens me to see him mid to back of the pack race after race.
  • I'm going to say both drivers are very good and if they had the support of their cars, they will be winning but the most underrated driver is Ryan Newman.
  • No offense to the Sadler fans, but I don't think he is that great of a driver. I like the guy a lot though. He is not a terrible driver because there are definetely worse out there, but he is definetely not underrated. Sadler was a lot better when he was with Yates though I will give you that.

Sorry to Reed Sorenson fans because I like him too, but he doesn't seem to be all that good of a driver either. I would love to see him win a race and prove me wrong though.
  • No, Reed Sorenson by a mile.

I would die to see him in a Hendrick car.
  • No.
  • Neither of them have been very good this year at all. Most underrated driver on the circuit this year has to be Marcos Ambrose since David Reutimann has won.
  • Not really.
I think Jeff Burton is the most under-rated.
  • Reed Sorenson is the most under-rated driver.
  • I am not sure if he is one of the most UNDER-RATED but I would sure love to see what he could do in a Hendrick or Gibbs machine. Very likeable guy and I would like to see him have more success.Sorenson??????? I continue to give him the benefit of the doubt but his talent level is not up to par with most.bird prefix
  • Who is the best cup driver of any time that has never won a championship?

    May be...

  • I always think of Mark Martin but do any others come to mind?
  • Davey Allison and Mark Martin are two that come to mind.
  • Martin
  • Junior Johnson, Curtis "Pops" Turner and Glenn "Fireball" Roberts come to mind.
  • Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, I agree with the ones who say Davey Allison.
  • mark martin,neil bonnet,ricky rudd,davey allison,tim richmond,ernie irvan and geoff bodine.
  • Mark Martin
  • Mark Martin :)
  • Davey Allison. RIP brother!
  • Start with Davey Allison, the whinny wieners can put that where the sun don't shine..
Their is actually a list rating them.. Tim Richmond, Buddy Baker, Dave Marcus, Harry Gant, Neil Bonnett, Glenn "Fireball" Roberts.. I don't want to go on.. I have seen all of these men drive, and one of them leave a race track dying.. But I never heard one of them whine.. Or their fans..
That Championship nonsense never meant anything, and it just shows how new to the sport, people are, if that's where your mind is.. Racing is about winning, and what is really strange, it ain't even about showing up.. It's about winning when you do show up.. David Pearson won over one hundred races.. Never running more than twenty one races in a year, at a time when others were running forty to fifty.. He ran a full season three times, and won three Championships.. Never had a teammate behind him to protect him, and never cheeted (Richard is guilty of both).. If David had run full seasons every year, you wouldn't remember Richard Petty's name, and even the great Dale Earnhardt would never have caught him.. If you ain't there to win, I don't care if you have twelve titles.. You better be there to race..
  • davey allison. he would have won multiple titles had he lived
  • Gotta be Mark Martin.
  • Gotta be Tim Richmond. He could do everything.700wx tero
  • Has Nascar gone completely off track(pun intended)?

    May be...

  • No one likes change and you can't hold back time. I loved the old days of racing too but what can you do?? I'm sorry people lose the desire to watch but it happens, personally I try to find good things in all racing from all eras. Dammmmm i'm gettin old. LOL :)
  • I agree to an extent. I haven't been watching as long as some of you on here (only since 2000 have I really been a die-hard fan), but the racing was exciting back then, for me. It does seem like there is only a small pool of drivers that win every week. I do agree that in order to win a championship, you have to be better than the competition all season long, not just a third of it. That's how Earnhardt, Sr won all of his championships, by playing it smart all year long, and being in the right places and the right times. Why should the guy who dominates the first 26 races not even have a shot in the last ten? I'm the furthest thing from a Kyle Busch fan, but last's years' Cup was his to win or lose.
  • I don't think NASCAR can win in this argument. If they left the points system in place, people would be complaining that towards the end of the season, it gets boring that a driver has an insurmountable lead. So, they invent the Chase and people complain that not enough action happens early in the season.

In the end, you can't please everyone. If you're a real fan, you watch because you'll take any kind of NASCAR you can get. If you're not, you won't watch because you'll think it is boring, and predictable.

Time changes everything, and if you look at every sport, they have all evolved over time. Some people like the changes, others do not. It's a part of life.

NASCAR needs money to exist, so they need sponsorships. That's never going to change, and it hasn't because it was the same back in the day. The only difference is that it was cheaper to run back then so more teams could afford to.

So, to answer your question, no NASCAR hasn't gotten off track. Part of evolution is following track, and that is exactly what NASCAR has done.

Also, one thing I will disagree with in your question is that balls to the wall all year long is not competing. I'm sorry but it is. In any competition, there has to be strategy involved. And part of that strategy is figuring out how to salvage a good day from a bad day. How many times have you seen a football team rest its starters at the end of the season so they are fresh for the playoffs? That's not balls out. It's strategy of looking for the bigger-picture win (Superbowl, Championship).
  • the chase blows.
  • Your Question
Has Nascar gone completely off track?(pun intended!)?
You know many of us who have followed Nascar a long time(I started in the 70's watching Petty and Pearson), have lost the desire in recent years for racing. It no longer is the thrill and unpredictable sport it once was. Yea, people die, people get hurt and fans get pissed. But none of that happens anymore! Instead of having Jeff Gordon going for his 7th title this year(by the old points sytem he would have won in '04 and '07) you have Mr. Chase(JJ) going for 4 in a row. Do any of you real fans care? I don't. Instead of balls to wall racing ALL YEAR LONG, you really can just sit back and do enough to get in, then hit the gas! That ain't racing or competing! Any of you agree with how dull the sport has become? How watered down and corporate?
  • I concur!!!!

    GO 24!!!!
  • You just stole the words right out of my mouth... NASCAR couldn't get anymore P C (politically correct) then they already are. It's taken A LOT away from the sport, and this is coming from a 24 year old that has been watching since 1993. I use to make sure I was where I could watch the race, now it doesn't matter. I'll DVR it and if I hear its worth watching then I will. Otherwise, I only watch a few select races live (Daytona, Talladega, Bristol, Richmond, Darlington, Atlanta, Martinsville, Dover, Watkins Glen)
  • Yes I agree with you 100%. Since Brian France has taken over Nascar has gone downhill with all of his stupid changes. They need to get back to their roots and start back like they were in the sixties.

you're looking for more people to die???

sorry, you lost me on this one !

it's not your neck out there getting chopped off
  • "Watered Down" Would be the key my friend. I am so incredibly pissed about last weekends race or should I say Mondays race (rained out). I live in Charlotte, and to be honest with you these boys are like the hometown heros or something. They own everything here, night clubs, car lots, etc... I am trying to figure out when NASCAR started getting more endorsements than NBA players. Just like the NBA with too much money comes no passion for the game! I wish we could go back to Petty on the track and Jordan on the court!! Preach on Buddy!!!!!
  • ya
  • I totally agree! You summed it up perfectly!
  • This question makes me think of the movie "Rollerball". The original with James Cann. And all the problems the "sport" started running into when the conglomerate that ran it became too controlling.

I started with Pearson, Petty, Allisons also. So I want the old time, let's settle this behind the garage after the race, attitude back. dangit!!!
  • Before Brian France came along, the points race was completely secondary.. It was winning.. Bill Elliot won eleven races in, back in 1985, and DW won two, and won the title.. When asked if he would trade places with DW he laughed.. The answer was "hell" no..
Brian France thinks he could snag more fans, by making the Championship "special".. He did.. For over forty years, the fans never knew, or cared what place their driver was in, unless he was in first place, or close.. Now that is all you hear about.. France wants this thing to be about winning, but you can't have it both ways (don't children always think you can) .. Apparently nobody ever taught him that other parable that goes "don't fix it, if it ain't broke".. Idiot child that he is, he took the fastest growing sport in the world, and made it the fastest shrinking sport in the world.. Maybe we need to get him work as Tony Eury Jr's helper, over at Hendrick R&D.. Or F1 would be good for him, as well.. For fifty years it kept going up, and up.. It only took him a tenth of that time to bring it to it's knee's..
Edit: Melissa, you seem like a very nice person, but your answer tells me you never really saw Richard Petty race much.. Race after race he did the same thing.. He would sit in seventh place for the entire race, unless sixth place fell back too far.. With fifty laps to go, he would slowly work his way forward.. That's how we knew he was going to win, and he did.. And those that say "things change with time", let me just say this.. Racing will never change.. Put guys in cars, and tell them that the first to get from here to there gets paid, and you've got a race on your hands.. Fill a book full of rules, and I guarantee that every page added to that book, just takes away from racing.. I can even prove that..
  • I disagree. Obviously you haven't been watching Kyle Busch
He will never let that happen
  • You are dead-on. Although my favourite driver remains Kasey Kahne, I love to watch Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards because they still understand what the sport is about. Too many people (like our current champion) just try to have a good points day. Do you ever notice how many of the races he actually wins are just snoozefests? Like last year's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. That race was a joke- and predictably, he won. The more boring, the higher the odds JJ wins it. Kyle and Carl try their hardest to win every weekend, and they put on a good show for the crowd. Because of them, I still hold out a little hope that things can improve.
  • you hit the nail on the head.
  • yes i totally agree!!!!!!makati shangri la incident

    A hypothetical question about NASCAR...?

    May be...

  • I'm sure there are some drivers out there making the teams look good and vice versa. It take a combination of all 3 to make a champion .
  • A bad driver in bad equipment with a bad crew is going to be bad.
A good driver in good equipment with a good crew is going to be good.
A bad driver in good equipment with a good crew is going to be mediocre. (Casey Mears)
A good driver in bad equipment with a bad crew is going to find a way to be better than average, but still not as good as they should be.
  • You have to have a good combination of driver, crew and crew chief to be a winner. Case in point, Jimmie (back to back to back champion) Johnson!
  • A lot of the bottom drivers are just not very good. Robby Gordon has his own team because no one wanted to hire him. Casey Mears was still pretty rotten at Hendrick. So, the bottom drivers would probably not do much better in top flight equipment simply because they are not top flight themselves. The top drivers would be able to communicate their needs to their crews, and still do very well.
  • how much of the success is crew and equipment? Let's say you switched the top ten drivers and the bottom ten drivers. Each using the others' original equipment and crews....what do you think the results would be?

I think we would find some new stars, and confirm some of the stars already in the sport.

I know it won't happen, just interesting to think about.
  • The driver is only as good as the equipment and crew chief. It would take time for the drivers and crew chiefs to get use to working with each other but I really do think that any "Top Driver" would do good with and existing team that had good equipment and a good crew chief.

These COT cars don't do like they were intended to do. The COT cars were intended to put the cars into the hands of the driver. They don't. It puts it into the hands of the crew chief and cars first. I think the COT failed their intended purpose of NASCAR. That doesn't mean they are a loss.

I say take the cars and use the splitters on the large tracks and on the small tracks go back to the valance type front ends to give the cars more down force and handle better in traffic so cars out front doesn't run off and leave the cars in traffic. The change could be as simple as bolting a sheet of metal over the splitter up toward the bumper just to block the effects of the splitter.
  • I think you would see a noticeable improvement from the bottom drivers using the better equipment and crews. All drivers should have some basic level of driving talent to even be at the Cup level. The top drivers would have a harder time in the worse equipment. You can be the best driver in the series but if your car isn't fast, and your crew doesn't get a good setup, then you can only do so well. They would still show some improvement of the original drivers, though.
  • I think you are completely right and I would love to see it because I know my driver, Elliott Sadler, would be a star.
  • And if you put an infinite number of monkeys, in front of an infinite amount ot typewriters, and give them an infinite amount of time, one of them will write the next great novel.

    Same thing applies in NASCAR.

Toss enough mud on the wall, and eventually some will stick.

Do you relly think Chad Knauss can help Juan Pablo????air iberian
  • Will the 88 be better?

    May be...

  • Whitesell has been a part of seven championship teams, while Mcgrew won a Nationwide championship.

My main concern is how much these guys know about the COT, since both of them served as crew chiefs with the old cars. But, still, being part of championship teams, these guys should be able to bring something to the table, and turn things around. Plus, Rick Hendrick has faith in them, which says a lot.

I think Rex Stump and Tom Stewart will also be crucial to the success of the 88.

The four of them collectively should be able to turn the 88 around if for no other reason than the 88's performance was so poor.
  • ...as long as Junior does not try to predict what they are doing.
    Hope it helps some.
  • only time will tell.
  • They still say McGrew is the interim crew chief, so who the heck are they looking at to be full time? Or are they so lost on who should lead that team Rick can't make a decision?.. This is bum-fuzzling to me, Rick has always had his crap together and made the decisions he needed to make, they should've had a good replacement in line before making this change in my opinion.

Will he be better? Not right away, No. With time and the right person though, there is no telling how good they can do. I'll say this though, It can't get much worse for them, so the only place to go is up.
  • Only if Dale gets his head out of the clouds and can stay focused.
  • I am not just bashing Jr. but I think alot of the problem with the team is Jr. He is not focused on racing. I think he needs to look at himself and rededicate himself to the sport if he wants to do really good. It's easy to blame it on the crew chief or the equipment but they have went through crew chief changes before with no improvement. They have the best equipment in Nascar now with no improvement. So there is on factor that has always been the same. The driver. Until he gets focused on racing he will not see a significant improvement. He may get going for a short period of time but he will not have any long term gain.
  • I am with Nascar Chick, give em about 5 races lets see if their is a improvement.
  • The 88 maybe better, but it still has the stigma of having a mediocre driver behind the wheel.
Better or the same is almost guaranteed (Can you do worse than sucks?)

...One thing for sure, Lemming Nation will have to step up their game in the excuse department if he doesn't do better.
  • I don't think that the situation can get much worse !

    H E N D R I C K~M O T O R S P O R T S~R U L E S ! ! ! ! !
  • With the crew chief change, Whitesell this week and then McGrew taking charge of the 88 next week, will there be better performance out of the team?
  • no your looking at like you have a richard petty behind the wheel you dont and never will jr may very well be the poster child of nascar but he will naver win a champ
  • It is safe to say that they can't be much worse!
  • I think they will. I hope they do because if the team still stinks then it is dale jr that's bad.
  • I'd say so. I mean he finished 40th last week so it's hard for him to get much worse than that barring an accident early in the race. But overall, it may not be much better.
  • If they can find someone who can communicate with Jr. better, then Yes there will be improvement.
  • Only if they make a total change including the driver of the 88. Maybe Junior Johnson or Ned Jarret would have a better chance of finishing in the top ten.
  • I wouldn't expect a big improvement right away. He will have to develop a relationship with a new crew chief so having a new one for this week and then again next week will make it difficult.

Then Mc Grew is only interim crew chief meaning Hendrick is still looking for a permanent replacement.
  • Most of the comments on here sum it up pretty well. It would be tough for him to do much worse unless his engine blows up in the first dozen laps. New crew chief was the frst step. Dale regaining his focus, desire, concentration, that is the second step. Without improvement on his part, this will all be for nothing. I hope this was a good wake up call for him.
  • Hard to say. I think he will, but I'll give it 5 races, then tell you how it goes...
  • Seems like the 88 car isnt doing so well.. not the driver! I have nooo idea what in the world is wrong with his car!!
  • There may not be an immediate change. Evidently according to this article http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg... Rick seems to imply that these are only "short term solutions" and that he has not yet decided on a long term solution as to who will be crew chief.
  • They may show some improvement just because it's hard to get any worse. I hope everyone is happy now that Tony Jr. is gone. The driver didn't help him out any between making vague complaints about what was wrong with the car and missing his pit box, speeding on pit road, etc. Unless the new chief is the boss, things will not get better. Do you ever hear Jimmie Johnson bossing Chad Knaus? No, because he understands what his role is in the big picture. Even someone as headstrong as Kyle Busch defers to the judgment of Steve Addington.integrated atsc tuner
  • Is there any truth to the story that Mr Hendrick may move Chad Knaus to the 88 team temporarily as crew chief?

    May be...

  • I believe a "story" is all that this could be because I have not heard of it on any of the major web pages or sports network. I think that this falls under "rumor"
  • I highly doubt that. Why would he do something to mess up the 3 time defending champs?
  • I don't see that happening.

  • Hey Nascar fans! How about Doug Richart as 88 Crew Chief?

    May be...

  • Yeah maybe... I don't really know a lot about him. Tell me about him?
  • He is out of a job right now! Biffle was great when they were together! And he worked with Dale Sr. at one time!
  • It could be a viable option and I do not think it could be any worse than the current situation.
  • I don't think Doug will get the chance to do it. HMS will probably find an up-and-comer within the organization.

If you really want to get nostalgic, see if you can talk Kirk Shelmerdine back into the pit box. Dale Sr. won 4 of his 7 championships with Kirk at the helm.
  • I think he'd be a great choice ,but I wonder if he would want the stress involved in bringing this team out of the funk their in right now. Everyone would be watching every move he made. I think he's happy doing his TV spots.
  • Not a bad choice but I think Mr H will promote somebody from within.
  • I don't know if Doug is the answer but Dale needs to do something ASAP.
  • They will probably promote someone from within HMS. But, what are they going to do with Tony Jr.?

    GO 24!!!!
  • Yes, he is a cool guy and a good crew chief. But I think Rick will promote someone from within the Hendrick organization.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Doug would probably be a good Choice but Rick likes to promote people in his organization.

  • NASCAR NATION: WHY DID MY NASCAR QUESTION YESTERDAY GET DELETED?

    May be...

  • A lot of people are quick to point the finger at ICE, but I've read his side of the story and there are others involved. It seems like some people got caught up in gaining points, levels, and percentages of BA's. Read his explanation and decide for yourself what is happening here.
  • As an example know it all has accused some folks as being cult member's. That is considered a rant, but also his right. My answer is just an observation which is not considered a rant. The truth is YA make's most of the call's for what happen's on here. I refuse to point finger's because I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion's and if I disagree I simply give a thumb's down. No harm, no foul. This should be fun what we do here and I respect everyone's question's and answer's.
  • The Question was can we all agree to disagree in the Nascar Forum? And, besides being deleted, I got docked 10 points!

It was a simple question. No rants or raves. Nothing against community guides lines, etc.....

What's up? Any theories? I am open to constructive comments!
  • who knows hon, someone reported it. it may or may not have been ice, so don't listen to some of these cult members here. people have been reporting reasonable, logical questions and answers for the entire 3 years i've been on YA, it certainly didn't start with ice. it could have been anyone. the 'cult' has decided they don't like this ice guy, so they're acting like children, i guess trying to make him go away. they tried to do the same thing to me 6 months or so ago, but as you can see i'm still here.

PS: it was a good question though, i had fun answering it.
  • Because trolls have taken over and are getting legit questions deleted. Appeal it buddy
  • tick off a troll and that happens, happened to me and a few others around here
  • They keep on deleting my stuff, and I let it go..
The other day I was notified that an answer was in violation.. I appealed, and it was put back.. I like it better that way, and that's what I will do from now on.. If they get enough needless abuse claims from a particular COMPUTER (when you get your appeal back, you will understand that statement.. They know EVERYTHING), they will not accept anything from that person anymore..
Yahoo is very sensitive about certain types of abuse.. They have been sued in the past for leaving information on the Internet until the next work day.. When you "report abuse", what happens is an automated program deletes the alleged offending material.. If you appeal, an actual human looks at the problem, and makes a decision about the deleted post.. They will put it back, if they don't recognize anything abusive..
To summarize, if you appeal it will backfire on them.. Eventually..
I once was in violation for starting an answer with the words "don't be silly"..
  • Either a monitor from Yahoo deleted it because it violated the standards for questions...or Yahoo received complaint(s) from users and then withdrew the question.
  • This is crazy! This does not go on in the football section!!!!!!!
  • Who are these trolls that everyone speaks of? i must not get on here enough..
  • You ticked someone of, they reported you.

    Trolls.

    Just appeal.
  • I'd say that someone very cold did it. I thought that the whole point of this was that we could share information and opinions. Sounds like a reasonable question to me.

  • NASCAR NATION......Can you read this?

    May be...

  • lenny I don't know you but we do have nascar in commin.really hate to see true nascar fan leave because of kids being immature.I have been one here for a year now and your right about yahoo there a real joke! letting these kids ruin it.I did like coming here but when your answer gets reported for no reason its B/S.
  • Hang in there LENNY, time takes care of everything.

  • Don't leave Lenny, you are a great contributor on here. All of us on here have been harashed by the trolls on here. If you leave that means they have won. Do not let them win. I have have 9 questions reported and 7 victories. I just do not ask questions any more thats all, you have some great answers. Stay strong, all of us #88 fans have been through total h**l this yr.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Lenny don't go. We have all "been there" at one time or another and have since coming here. Just don't falsly accuse anyone of being a part of it just because they don't want to be involved with the fight on the playground.
My profile is open to anyone who would like to see all that is posted there and because I don't wish to get involved one way or another accusations have been thrown at me as well.
This is just like any little community...not everyone gets along.

Just keep your chin up and do what I do...ignore it. Eventually the game gets old and everything settles down.

I was hoping cooler heads would prevail and we don't lose anymore good people.
  • I'm not going to say I understand everything that has been going on, so I won't comment on it specifically, but I would think that the honest and true fans here should be able participate without fear of reprisal or attack. I'm sorry its not like that.
Sorry to see you leave Lenny. Intelligent and insightful answers are sometimes hard to come by and yours are always welcomed. I wish you would reconsider, but if you must leave, you'll be missed.
  • it is sad what this forum has gotten to try infield parking for real discussions I just hang out hoping things will get better, I refuse to let them win...take care
  • Lenny don't go WE CAN AND WILL WIN , you have my email addy ,let me know if i can help . I know i will miss your GREAT answers ,
  • Your boy fought for your/my/our freedom of speech, Lenny.
Don't let anyone take it away from you.

    Speaking of...how's he doing?

  • Enough is enough with ICE and the rest of his goon squad who have nothing better to do than report any and all answers on here. For those of you who know me and want to keep in touch and for for those that want to; my email address is LDAVIS974@YAHOO.COM if you ever want to talk NASCAR. ICE, I hope one day that you grow up and/or get a job and/or a life or possibly all of the above. I am 47 years old and way to mature for this crap any longer. Just remember brother; what comes around goes around. Go ahead and report this one too because I am outta here. I am so much better than you it isn't funny and obviously Yahoo Answers cares nothing about the REAL NASCAR fans in here so the fight is futile. As my man spock says; "live long and prosper" REAL NASCAR fans, the rest of you can go straight to HELL!!!!!
  • Lenny, I am going to miss your answers, Trolls are lame!

NASCAR Fans are supposed to be the nicest fans and the biggest supporters of each other even if their drivers are like mortal enemies, and I hate seeing these stupid trolls tearing apart our nation!

I am going to stand by everyone in the nation except the trolls, and I will fight to the end!
  • I don't know you very well, but it sucks that you have to go. I don't know what's going on, but I know something is. This sucks. This should be a place where we can all get get together and share opinions and learn from each other. We're all NASCAR fans after all. Sorry to see you go.
  • Lenny I say you should stay and Fight the good fight. You are one of the true Fans here and I for one will sorely miss you and your answers if you leave.

Don't let the Little Troll from Mississippi get you down, as it has been proven he is nothing but a pain in the Rear end, and like you said what goes around comes around, and I am a Firm Believer in that.

But if you do leave know that I and others will miss you and we will keep in touch.

I have had my share of STUPID E- MAILS from him but I keep on Keeping on as I know one day I will be at the Corner of Military Road and North 18th Ave and he will meet the one Person who will set things Straight.

And as it has been said before " You can take that to the Bank"

    SEMPER FI MY Brother.

I might not be the Sharpest Knife in the Drawer but I mean what I say, and I say what I mean.
  • i'll miss ya if you're really leaving, thanks for backing me up from time to time. i personally don't get into the politics and you shouldn't either. i'm not a member of the little YA nascar nation 'cult' and don't have any desire to be, i'm just here to be entertained by answering questions and debating. i get lots of answers reported, big whoop, i've been on YA for 3 years now and i'm on my 4th account. i'm quite sure this one will get suspended at some point too, but no biggie, i'll just start over again. i couldn't care less if i have 125 points or 10,000, i can't buy anything with the points, right?
  • It is pretty stupid in here. But there are sickos no matter where we go. Most mental deficients are cowards because of social disease. This is probably the biggest accomplishment ICE has ever had in his life. At least he was able to experience being around real normal intelligent people. Can you imagine how sad his life would be without this little two dimensional escape? YAHOO! Answers is 1/3 cool and 2/3 psych ward. But I knew that, the first time I read someones additional details and someone was talking back to an answer. My feelings don't get hurt by creepy people like ICE. I have a sick and twisted side that is amused by peoples idiocy. You shouldn't let freaks like ICE get you down. There will always be someone standing in line behind this loser, waiting to have the chance to mingle with normal educated people. If the people at YAHOO! Answers were conscientious enough they would delete the dudes account and listen to the real fans in this forum. It's a messed up world we live in, and it's even more messed up when the people who set rules and guidelines do not even know how to enforce their own jurisdiction.
  • I love you lenny and agree. Most of the nation supported me like real NASCAR fans when I was (am) Ice's newest victim. Pretty sad because nascar fans are supposed to get along. But Ice, his trolls and his 'woman' don't run this place and never will. They give nascar fans a bad name, it sickens me.
  • That is the main reason I don't come to this section much!
  • Don't leave, Lenny D. I was finally finding people on YA that I enjoyed debating NASCAR issues with. Just give it a little longer. The true fans really seem to be sticking together. I can understand your frustration, though.
  • I hate to see you go Lenny. That is only giving into the bastards. But, I can appreciate the frustration you feel from being trolled.

I just keep appealing if I get reported. So far 5 VN's, 4 victories.

I wish you would hang in there for a while longer, sooner or later the trolls will either go back to school, back to work, or get on the proper doses of their medications.
  • By leaving you're giving him a victory. Are you sure you really want to do that?quickpark oakland
  • How come they had to keep push starting Jimmie Johnsons car at the Coca Cola 600?

    May be...

  • Moisture in the electrical parts. Kyle Busch was having a problem with his oil gauge because of the moisture.
  • I had a Chevrolet like that once. Never again!
  • I'm sure it was due to all the rain and moisture. Kyle Busch also had a problem that they figured was due to the rain. Kyle said he was smelling electrical smoke and everyone came to the conclusion that some water probably caused that as well.
  • The nascar engines are started by a starter pannel and all that is electric and when the rain came poof the starter went
  • I agree with your first answer. The moisture from the rain played havoc on Jimmie's car.
  • yeah the constant rain and car coverings messed up his car. as we all know, the nascar cars aren't made for the rain. so his car fell victim to mother nature. what a shame though, his paint scheme for memorial day was awesome.
  • I think they said his starter messed its diaper because of the rain. No problems in and out of the pits, so the tranny was fine.
  • looked like his started shorted out or something inside the car got wet or maybe the battery wasnt holding a charge
  • It's a fraqkkin' Chevy, what do you expect? Maybe next year after Chevy is out of racing all the cars will run.
  • The Moisture of the Rain caused problems.
As they said "These cars weren't made to race in the rain" I think Mike Joy stated that.
  • did they ever say what was wrong with it?
  • I would say he lost 1st gear... none of the other Hendrick cars had a problem.... getting started anyway...make music files

Would a leeves blower give horse power to a car?

    May be...

  • It might, 6 horsepower is a big leaf blower.. You have to check the CFM rating on the blower. If it is higher than the CFM demand of the engine at wide open throttle then it will supply boost and increase power.

Don't expect the boost of a turbo but it may add a few horsepower.
  • i have a levee blower that is 6.0 horse power and i was wondering if it will give any horse power to an 03 tiburon acting like a turbo
  • You know it's really thinking outside the box, but I don't see it working to tell you the truth.
But give it a try and let us Know what happens, but If anything Blows up Don't blame me LMAO
  • Ha ha ha nice try but I would say no way. That is VERY small torque and power going to a very powerful engine.

Good question and great thinking though!!
  • to give u a short answer, NOT A HOPE.there are many ripoff electric type blowers on the market, and despite claims NONE of them work Report Abusebudget reant a car
  • Does this one sentence sum it all up for Tony Eury Jr?

    May be...

  • It was frustrating to hear. To all the Jr. bashers, have you listened to drivers talk to their crew chief on the radio to know that Junior's feedback isn't that different from many other drivers? You just assume he is giving bad feedback. And as much as you think Jr. fans refuse to blame anybody but Eury Jr., you also refuse to believe it could actually be partly his problem.
  • I don't think Tony Eury Jr. knows what he is doing I just think they feel sorry for him because he is dale jr. cousin
  • Lenny I find it funny that you failed to mention FROM THE ARTICLE how RIck Hendrick himself said the 88 has been getting data from the other teams and he has been scratching his head at their lack of performance. Sounds to me there isn't a crew chief problem if the sports best team owner has no clue. You should post all the facts and not just the ones Jr Nation wants to hear.
  • Dale is a has been, Eury will be crew chief for Jeremy Mayfield if he doesn't pull his head out of his A--. Jr. I feel is the real problem, he doesn't give a crap he has all the money in the world and all his good buddies why should he race.? To try and be his dad? That will never happen Jr will end up just like Kyle Petty, racing on Daddy's name.
  • Yeah, that kind of sums it up. I know other crew chiefs say things like that. The problem with Eury Jr. is that that's the only kind of stuff he says. I listen in on the 24's radio communications as well, and it's different. Letarte talks to his driver and tells him similar things, but he also tells him about what he has planned. He has ideas that he talks about and encourages his driver. Eury Jr. just repeats what his driver says and says stuff like that. It sounds like there is no real plan inside his head. There probably isn't.
  • Steve Addington's made very similar comments to Kyle.
  • Well, sounds like maybe he didn't have a clue, or there were too many adjustment to list.

I hope they get their act together soon.
  • these two have to be a team u cant fix a car without great feedback from driver, look at the winning teams the drivers know what the car needs and then crew chief makes proper changes. both jrs need to find a better person to work with split these guys up they are losers as a team and will never win a championship together. which is fine by me. go stewart-hass racing
  • "We’re gonna try a bunch of stuff here,” crew chief Tony Eury Jr. said just before one pit stop.

What?????? (Is this how you make scientific adjustments during a Sprint Cup race???)

    Your thoughts???????
  • For an organization that has top notch equipment, seems like Jr. is driving junk these days. I believe it is top notch equipment set up to run like junk.

In all fairness, I can understand why it would have started off the race in bad shape as the track conditions were terrible... Eury,Jr. apparently needs to learn a little somethin'-somethin' about what it takes to make a car handle.

I am beyond amazed that Rick Hendrick has allowed this to go on this long. It's sooo obvious that the Little E and Eury,Jr. combination is not working.

Book Eury,Jr. and give someone else a shot.

Junebug is a good driver and I believe he is trying hard, maybe too hard. He needs a steady voice on the other radio to make things work. One that knows how to set-up a car!
  • Jr.'s car was obviously junk. Ordinary adjustments weren't going to fix that car. So I guess they tried a bunch of stuff they might accidentally stumble on to something to make them better in the future. It doesn't look like they were able to make the car any better in fact I think they made it worse.
  • He probably said that because Dale Jr. told him "this car is plowing, and nothing is working", but didn't really explain what was wrong. So Eury Jr. probably had no idea what to do at that point, so figured he'd change everything if nothing was working.

Based on how the car runs every week it sounds like they have that conversation at every race.

Eury isn't very good as a crew chief, and Jr. isn't much better as a driver, and as you can tell this season, doesn't seem to have his head in the game...but you are right, until Jr. tries a new crew chief, we'll never know who's totally at fault.
  • I admire Jr's loyalty to his cousin.. It's a trait that is admirable, and endearing.. But it's time for Tony Jr to show some of the same loyalty, and find a graceful way to move aside, and let Jr move ahead in his career.. I watch lap times for all the cars in every race, and even when Jr is driving a fast car, or at least one of the fastest, Eury's strategy often mires him back in fifteenth place with a bunch of slower cars, or even costs him a lap.. He did it yesterday by taking four tires when Jimmie took two (DW is an idiot).. If Jr had taken two, he would have stayed on the lead lap long enough to fix the problem.. The COT has them all running the same speed, and it can be very hard for the driver to do anything about that..
  • Who knows what Eury's version of throw a bunch of stuff at it means! I think next week they should let Jeff or Jimmy practice the car some, and see what they can come up with. He ran really well the first half of 08. Something is seriously wrong there, and I believe it's about 80 percent the crew chiefs fault!pepsi every ten
  • Why doesn't nascar use rain tires?

    May be...

  • Rain tires have grooves in them, which means less tire surface area touching the road. Less surface area means less traction, and less traction at those speeds mean a lot more crashes. It's both a speed thing and a safety thing.
  • Nascar does use rain tires on ROAD COURSE tracks. As for the Oval's , the lack of grip would jeopardize the drivers saftey.
  • Presumably the reason has something to do with rooster tails.

Particularly in Formula One in the rain, there are vast plumes of water kicked up behind a car. With 30 odd NASCARs that might cause a problem with already limited visibility. Also, when you consider that NASCAR runs races at night and without lights, following a rooster tail would be impossible.
  • its not the cars its the wear pattern of the tires on oval tracks. since you're only making left turns the right sides wear faster and the tread would wear off. on road courses you can use rain tires because there is a more equal distribution of wear amongst the 4 tires.

also the IRL does not run on ovals in the rain for this reason as well
  • It already costs a lot of money to build these car and race them. To race in the rain would just cost a lot more money to teams by tearing up more cars.
  • They did use them once in a Bush race in Canada. If I remember correctly, very few cars had wipers installed & Robbie Gordon got penalized for a payback. So NASCAR has used them on an unbanked track. Supposedly the banked tracks are too dangerous.
  • The real reason why NASCAR doesn't use rain tires is because the cars are designed to run on a dry surface
  • They might on a road course, as they did in Montreal last year in the Nationwide Series.

Racing in the rain on an oval isn't practical for a few reasons.

The cornering speeds are slowed dramatically, even with a rain tire. When cornering speeds go down so do the straightaway speeds. The speeds they'd be running at would make for a boring race.

When a car spins on a wet track there's a lot less friction, meaning less speed gets scrubbed off. You've now got cars hitting the wall and being unable to stop or regain control of their cars. Definitely a safety issue.

There's also some serious visibility issues in the rain.
  • nascar says the cars are to heavy (3400) that's bull! so whats the real reason?

they could control the race, make everybody come in and change tires under a Competition yellow!

then make then race with rain tire and a wiper!

SO WHAT THE REAL REASON THEY DON'T DO THIS?
  • Smooth (slicks) tires provide more surface area.build my upper chest

Is Mark Martin better than Dale Jr.?

    May be...

  • Do bears crap in the woods? Why heck yeah Martin is ten times the driver Junior could ever hope to be. Junior isn't even worthy to carry Mark's jock strap LOL!
  • Yes, and you know he is ICE, I mean Lisa (sorry, I didn't mean to blow your cover)
  • If you base your question on this year, yes. Last year maybe, espicially second half of last year. Listen up all you Jr. bashers out there. No Jr. fan has ever said he is or will be as good as his dad. No Jr. fan has ever said he is the best driver today. We would like him to be and one day hopefully he will. There is no doubt HE IS the most popular driver today, unfortunetly that does not equal winning races. The problem with Jr this year and the last half of last year was not Jr's driving it has been and is the car. They are not getting the setup right and cannot seem to fix during the race. Ultimately that responsibility has to fall on the crew chief. All I know is before Eury Jr. Dale Jr. was winning races and was consistent week end week out. There is no disputing that.

To say he cannot drive is stupid. I mean if you watched the race today and previous weeks his car is all over the track. Loose as hell. It was all he could today and previous weeks just to keep the car out of the wall. The man can drive and if Eury Jr. ever gets a clue or they find a CC who has a clue then all you Jr. bashers will be eating your words.
  • yes
  • YES
  • I think the results speak for themselves. This year Martin has outperformed Jr by far. They have really hit their stride as of late and Jr is still struggling badly. Look for Martin to contend for the title while Jr contends to stay in the top twenty in points.
  • At this point in Jr.'s career Mark Martin by a long shot. I personally think Jr. is well on his way to becoming a Great driver, but I personally think for a couple years after Sr. passed Jr. slipped a bit and now after the feuds with Theresa behind him, he's going forward again. I'm sure if you asked him, Jr. would also say Martin, experience is like respect, You have to earn it and Mark Martin has plenty of that.
  • They are both really strong drivers and a lot of the time it depends on the track and the car.
As of right now, Mark Martin is 11th with 1316 points, 2 wins, 3 top five finishes, and 6 top ten finishes, while Dale Jr. is 18th with 1182 points, no wins, 1 top five finish and 4 top ten finishes.
    So you decide.
  • ....Today about 2/3 of the field was better!
  • Wow. Jr.s not the best ever? Youve got to be joking. Hes the winningest driver ever in the dreams of his fans. LOL!!!!! Jr. is a joke. Martin is a far better driver than Jr. will ever be. Sr. rolls in his grave everytime that chump pulls on his gloves and clicks on his belt(Jr. that is)
  • Heck yea, Jr cant even put his car in the pit box. Sorry hands down Mark is way better, Jr or his crew chief need to step it up.
  • That is a big YES.
A LOT of drivers are better than Junior. His performance today in the Coca-Cola 600 was laughable, embarrassing, and pathetic; just like his career!
  • Sure, I would say he is. I like both of them though. Mark Martin is better than a lot of the drivers out there. If not for some issues that were out of his control early in the season, he would be much higher in the standings.
  • yess!! Report Abuse
  • Yes, about a million times better, in fact there's probably about 15-20 drivers every week that are better than Jr.
If it wasn't for the rain today he probably would of ended 5 or 6 laps down. It's time to step out of the 88 and give it to someone who can drive fast, anyone know how to get a hold of Ricky Bobby.
  • Inquiring minds want to know.
  • He must be. Even though he retired from full time cup racing in 2005, he still finishes better than Earnhardt.
  • Oh yes. Mark Martin is far more experienced and a far better driver. His ride is a heck of a lot better, too.
  • yes, but jrs fans will tell you that because jr has two bush series championships and mark martin don't have any at all in any series that jr is better80 audi s2
  • Should NASCAR give points in a rained out race?

    May be...

  • Yes they should. Every driver raced and earned the points. It has nothing to do with the best driver winning or loosing.
  • Yes...absolutely.
The drivers don't care for rain calls anyway...unless you are in the right place at the right time...like Ruetimann is right now.
  • No that's silly but then again I've just read a lot of silly answers and questions.
  • Yes I think so. Every driver had the opportunity to make the same choice as Reutimann and if the strategy works they took the risk and it paid off.
  • that happens they all understand the rules and since the race reached halfway its official.. they will try to get it all in if at possible
  • I personally dont think so because the best driver didnt win the race.
  • Of course. All 43 cars are racing on the same track with the same conditions.

Not giving points in a rained out race is a real slap in the face to the teams who raced hard and the fans who suddenly went to a race that now means absolutely nothing.
  • yeah, they should. even if the driver that wins a rained out race is not "the best driver", they still had to use some strategy to get out there. no matter whether they completed the race or not, the drivers still deserve the points. they still raced, after all.
  • No, they should just put the tracks in domes or something so we wouldn't have this problem to begin with. Takes the fun out of racing since you can't race in the rain.going halo movie there
  • When does NASCAR 2010 come out?

    May be...

  • sorry dude no game this year
  • I went to EA Sports website and i could not find this game any where can anyone help?
  • idk, but NASCAR!!! hell yeah
  • There not making NASCAR 10 that horrible I have 09 for 360 and it the best please don't tell me there not making Nascar 10
  • there is none =( i have nascar 09 for wii, it's amazing!!!
  • EA Sports isn't making a game this year due to the NASCAR games selling less games than the other EA Sports titles. I also think their contract to make NASCAR games has expired.
  • EA's contract ran out in 2009 and no other company pick it up so sorry to say no nascar 2010.
  • There will be no Nascar 2010 this year. EA Sports isn't making a game this year because of poor sales. EA Sports is only required to release one Nascar game a year and they released Kart Racing for the Wii so they aren't required to release another game. Right now Nascar and EA Sports are working on a new contract that will keep the Nascar video game license with EA. Some think that Nascar could allow other companys to make the games if an agreement can't be reached with EA
  • Actually, the NASCAR contract still belong to EA till the end of 2009. They simply aren't making a game for reason ungiven. They stated that NASCAR Kart Racing would be the only NASCAR game released in 2009. So no true NASCAR 2010 will come out. Who's looking forward to EA losing NASCAR's contract next year?!
  • According to wikipedia, there are not producing the game this year because of low saleswho makes the marriott bed
  • How do I start racing?

    May be...

  • I want to get into racing. Drift and track mainly. No drag. I have no money unfortunately so I was curious to know if there are places that teach you how to drive professionally and help you get jobs and such related to that field and also help you get into racing on a professional scale. Kind of like car and driver car testers or something along those lines. I am also curious to know what sites I can look at that keeps me updated on local events (Las Vegas) as well as how do I get started?

I try to make it to track events but money is just so tight I haven't gone in over a year. I know money helps but is there anything else I can do right now?
  • You can always afford to volunteer to help on a team. Go to your nearest track and walk up and down the pits asking teams if they need help. That's how I got started , now I'm paid ( free entry, food and lodging ) to be a Crew Chief on a small short track stock car team. But the best thing is I'vee made a lot of contacts , gained a lot of knowledge and it gave me some time to build up my tools and equipment which will help me next year when I start up my own program.

Remember if people see commitment from you they may give you a break.

  • What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate tomorrow?

    May be...

  • I think this year is the first time the 600 has been moved to Monday but if they can't get the race in on Monday they would race early on Tuesday like 10 am they had something like this happen at Michigan in august 2007 they finished the race on a Tuesday or Wednesday so that's what would happen they will finish that race whenever they have to night day Monday Tuesday it will get finished
  • They will attempt it on Monday and if it rains Monday then they may try to on Tuesday. If for some reason they can't get the race in before the week is out then they will reschedule the race for the end of the season I believe.

I know there is a truck race on the 29th so I doubt they would stay past Tuesday waiting on the weather to clear up.
  • The 600 has never been ran on Menorial Day. My guess is they will try to run the race tomorrow, no matter whan. They could start as late as 7:00 pm local time or they may just try to race around the weather till they can get an official # of laps and then just declare whoever is leading the winner.
  • Well I've Kinda Sorta got plans tomorrow. Still I'd like it to be tomorrow, but then it'd be nice for Tuesday for me... Either Way gonna try my bestest to watch it!
  • I hope for your sake there will be a race tomorrow.
  • If they cant do it tomorrow, they will move it to tuesday. They have only ever done this once, and it was at MIS two years ago!

If they dont get it in by tuesday they will add it on to the last race of the year, like they did when September 11th happened and they cancelled that race till after homestead.
  • anytime the weather messes up a race nascar usually waits until the weather is better to run it. If the weather is not better tomorrow they probably will run it some other day
  • When would they run the Coca Cola 600? Has this ever happened in the history of the 600? I'm really curious.

    Thanks for your answers!
  • if they can't get it in for tomorrow. We are all screwed. They would reschedule it for Tuesday for like 8am or 10am.
    That would suck.
  • I just looked this up on NASCAR.COM

They will run it at noon Monday.
The Coca-Cola 600 has been rain shortened three times (1968, 1973 and 2003) but it has never been postponed, said NASCAR public relations officials.

And if they can't get it in this week; Should weather continue to be an issue through the week in North Carolina, the next open date on the Cup Series schedule is July 18area bay in park shakespeare

What is KERS? How does it work?

    May be...

  • It stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

It's kind of like a hybrid car. The energy from the engine is stored under braking and the drivers have a button they can push to release the energy. Current regulations although for 80 horsepower extra for roughly 7 seconds a lap.

Some cars choose not to run it due to the fact that the weight of the batteries cause less then perfect weight distributions.
  • KERS is a new system brought to F! by some of the teams this year its basically a big battery pack or fan wheel (depending on how he teams develop it). this then stores the enery wasted under breaking ( not literally by the brakes but the engine is still turning even under braking so the battery or fan wheel stores it) this can be the used each lap as a 80 horse power boost for 6.7 seconds to use at the drivers discresion, when the car passes the start/finish line each lap the battery is restored. but the KERS can only be deployed when the car reaches 100km per hour about 62 mph.

    hoped this helped.
  • KERS: Kinetic Energy Recovery System

It uses the recovered kinetic energy to charge a battery and when the battery is charged the drivers can choose to press a button and that gives them an extra 80 horsepower boost for a maximum of 6 seconds, it can be used anywhere on the track but its only smart to use it on long straights, also, drivers can choose to start and stop the boost whenever they want
  • kers is kinetic energy recycling system, basically it stores the energy generated when barking (ie reducing the kinetic enegry) and then releasing it on acceleration to give an extra "kick" of about 60 HP for upt to 20-30 seconds... it is like a kick up the backside on a straight... why dont al cars have it - becuase it is heavy and you have to carry itaround the track with you al the time, not just when you want it...
  • There are two basic types of KERS systems being developed for F1 - mechanical and electrical: both store energy that would otherwise be lost when braking, and allow that energy to be re-used when accelerating.

In the mechanical systems, the energy is stored in a flywheel. When the driver brakes, the flywheel is driven from the car's transmission system to spin it up: when the driver needs the stored energy to add to the engine output under acceleration, the flywheel is re-connected to the transmission system and drives it. The direction of transfer of power (i.e. transmission to flywheel or flywheel to transmission) depends on the gearbox that lies between the two (a special continuously-variable-transmission gearbox is usually used).

In the electrical version, under braking the transmission drives a generator that charges a battery: under acceleration, the battery drives an electric motor that drives the transmission. (The generator and motor can be the same device).
  • KERS is the short form for "Kinetic Energy Recovery System"
