  • couple buddies pizza drinks wings couch big screen tv
  • Watching it on TV on my couch.
  • I'll be watching it along with football.
  • I am going to have a Nascar day.just veg...watch all the pre race ,the race, speed report, victory lane and then wind tunnel.Bye then i'll need four extra strength tylenol because all my body will be hurting from all that sitting around. But ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what a great day it will be.
  • Just watching on the big screen wishing I was there .
  • working a martina mcbride concert and taping the race. no DVR, i'm behind the times, still have a VCR. if junior does well, i'll watch it late sunday night when i get home, if he doesn't, i'll burn the tape.
  • I'm half tempted to boycott it. I'm a bit angry about the supposed bailout bill. This really sucks, because I love racing, but even I think that's uncalled for.

ETA: It's not why I'm depressed, but it doesn't help, either.
  • Awww...!!
I'm unhappy that Maggie will not be able to see the race!!!

    What will I be doing?
I'll be home watching every bit off the race!!!
  • sad got to work..........
  • well this whole weekend is "shot" in a way. Tomorrow we are having a Fall harvest Festival after church. I have pies and another caramel apple cheesecake to make. I may not be home even to catch the last lap. I already committed myself.

But enjoy the race everyone and good luck to all of your drivers. and those who have their names on Jr.'s car...maybe we will be seeing YOU in victory lane. :0)

    (But hopefully not....lol)
  • I am finally going to get to relax for a bit. Ive been remodeling our bathroom for my wife. Im wore smooth out so Im just going to sit in front of the tube and chill.

Hope your doing good Storm, have a great weekend.
    Get well soon!
  • What are you doing for the Cup race tomorrow?

    Enjoy!

    -Breast Cancer Awareness Month-
    Thank you Tom G VP!
  • I'll be celebrating Dale Jr's victory tomorrow is what I plan on doing. He has officially passed on his bad luck to someone else. He'll win here on out and most of next season also.
  • Sitting back until the green flag, then I'll be on the edge of my seat.

Thank you for participating! :) I couldn't do it without all your support!
  • Wow, so that's why they change the avatars pink. I'll of course watch the race.
  • watching it on tv
  • ...watching the #1 & #8
  • Watch it By myself call my sweetheart tell her to root for Truex and drink a Coke Zero and pray Truex Jr wins!

    Who's #1? Martin Truex Jr!
    Who's Number 2? Everyone Else!
What will we see in Victory Lane Tomorrow? DEI!

  • AHa got the day off.
    Talledega BABy.
Going to sit here on my couch with my husband and enjoy the race.
Crossing my fingers that Junior got all of the bad luck out, and that he will have a great day and WIN.
  • I will be watching it at home with my family like normal with lot's of food and beer LOL!

    Hope your feeling better Storm!
    Have a great weekend!
  • Watching the race while I do some cooking n cleaning. I'm always done for the last 100 laps. Usually there are at least 3 TVs on so I can catch some of the race too. Since it's gettin' a little cool out, a nice big pot of Chili sounds pretty good.

Hope you're feelin better Storm, get well soon!

  • We gonna be [DEGA] into some food on the grill.
Pig out and watch for the biggin'
  • Gonna be at home in front of the big HDTV, with some Nascar friends, enjoying the race with some Wings, Chips & Dip, doing some Shrimp on the grill plenty of beer & soda's and some AMP as well, going to have 6 laptops on trackpass scanner. There'll be a couple extra TV's on football and baseball, but the Race is king tomorrow. My friend is bring over one of her to die for Rum Cakes for my birthday.. Going to be a great race cause Dale Jr is gonna win..

Go Dale Jr & Hmscashable vouchers
  • Do you think Steve Wallace will ever make it to the Sprint Cup series?

    May be...

  • Not for a while! The next Wallace you will hear big things about will be Chrissy Wallace....Girl can drive! And she's pretty cute.
  • NO
  • president hooray -hooray for tom
you do put alot in this section
maybe one day i can secretary of troll defense lol

and no i dont think stevie will ever amount to much- sorry!
  • Ya know..if the boy could learn to avoid getting tangled up in everyone else's messes all the time, he'd have a better shot at it.
Poor kid, always seems to be in the wrong place doesn't he? lol..
I can see him in a Cup car someday. (hopes anyway)
  • I think he has grown a lot since last year. I think he will probably make it to Cup eventually but he still has a lot of learning to go first.
  • Yes but in my opinion he will never have the career that his father enjoyed. When Rusty was out there there were three things needed for a driver to have the chance of being successful. The ability to drive, the ability to listen and the ability to give respect to other drivers and teams (not one of Rusty's strong points however). Sponsors and team owners yes they all played a part but not to the extent they do now.
I wish him luck. It is always a welcomed addition to see a second generation driver do well.

Tom G! Hail to thee! I think you will serve with great honor and continue to lead NN in the right direction which is LEFT.
  • not for a while if he can stop crashing
  • I think he will make it, he has the genes, he just needs to be polished off a bit.

Thank you, it is a honor, you served us proudly, I need you as my VP though.
  • Yes I do think Steve will make it to the cup series. He has alot of his dads talents, plus unfortunately his dads bad luck too. I can see Rusty moving him up to the cup series when he has learned what he needs to know. It would be cool if he got into Rusty's old ride, the #2 Miller Lite and Kurt could be his teammate in the #12 car.
  • I can't say for sure, but at the rate he is going,I would say no.He is too impatient. However, good job for him for overcoming his condition(for those who may not know,he has Turrette's Syndrome) and making it at any level of NASCAR :)
  • No. Im just kidding I dont really know.

Wait! I thought you were president and he is VP when did this happen?

oh well cograts Tom *applause* You made a great VP and I'm sure you'll do the same a prez!
BTW good job with all the B.C. awareness stuff!
  • Thanks and have a great weekend!
  • Now Superdave, he will never be his dad, and I do not think Steven is trying for that.. He just needs to drive his own race, be more focused. I think the talent is there but dang he always seems to be at the wrong place when something bad is going to happen. I like him, I just wish some of Rusty could just jump into him and make him great, I know he would do Rusty proud.. I wish only the best for him, not to mention he is so cute. He is young, lots of racing ahead of him...He has the last name, its up to Steven, to do the name proud.. I think he will be just fine in time.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • I'm confused, but I'm proud to congratulate Tom for for becoming President but I think you need to be VP Dave. Both of you are very special people and have made NN a great place to a part of. You both care about other people and that is rare these days.

Yes I do think Steve will make it into the Cup Series. It may be a couple years yet but he will make it. He has matured and learned since last year but has the same magnet that Elliott Sadler has....they are both in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think Steve as a driver has come a long way.

    Nascar Nation....Stand Proud!confused game
  • Nascar Nation.............?

    May be...

  • My name is pretty obvious. However,I started pulling for Jimmie after Dale,Sr. died.I had to use this particular combination because apparently they were all taken up until 2004!!Lots of Johnson fans!!!
  • my name was removed along with about 20 awnsers and 5 questions
  • Just what my name says......IluvRS
And I thought superdave was the president if I am wrong then yes VP Tom should be President
  • Its obvious...lol...I'm rooting for Jimmie to win the cup in 08...lol
  • Mine is just my name, and my two favorite drivers. Pretty simple!
  • i made my name up with my initials and alex ok

18 AND 1 FAN WHY CANT YOU ACCEPT THAT EVERYONE WHO ARE ROWDYS FAN DO THE SAME THING AS YOU THEY CHEER FOR HIM IN ANY VEHICLE AND THEY STICK WITH HIM UR NOT THE ONLY ONE OK

    WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL
  • WEll I used to go by my first name, I just recently changed it to M. Pepper. After my favorite drink lol (dr. pepper)
  • Ammm....
    Well.....[Looks around suspiciously and whispers]
It's because Jeff Gordon is my favorite driver!

    Vice President?
    More like President...
Can I be like the Speaker of the House???!!!!
    PLEASE!!!

I am sorry I did not know..
No, no Superdave, don't step down..

How about a vote? An official Yahoo! Answers election?
  • "j" for jeff, "g" for gordon, "24" for his number, and "rocks" for Jeff being the best driver ever, so I got jg24rocks.
  • I never changed it from my yahoo account name. My name is Christina and my last name starts with a C.
  • I use my name for everything. That way I don't for get who I am:}
  • My nana used to call me her little Winter Glory.
It's in her honor and her memory.
  • It's just me, Brother Tom.

I feel the need to hide nothing from anyone....
  • Made a vow to stay away from Drugs and Alcohol for the Rest of My Life.

    GO MARTIN TRUEX JR!!!

EDIT !!!V V V V (As for the Fan Below me I agree make Tom G President of NASCAR Nation! This Kid is very Supportive and Great! Tom G President!!)
  • I got my name from my Momma. lol. I just used my name when I started answering here, and I reckon it's too late to change.
  • Because I'm a small person, then the old cartoon.
  • I just used a sissy name, because I have a big enough ego through education and experience, that if anybody wants to make fun of my name I get a good laugh out of their hurt feelings. In other words, i'm secure enough in myself to know that a name in a forum is just a name.
  • The love i have for Disney movies and Disney World. If anyone i know goes to WDW i let them in on secrets that unless you have been there you don't realize how quick you can get around and avoid lines and give pointers on where to sit for parades and all that fun stuff.
i have only been there 5 times but each time I learn and absorb more facts from workers and just watching.
WDW is expensive so i try to help friends save money while down there too.
  • i campaigned very hard and when it came time to vote, i won - rowdy's #1 fan. it was the #18s #1 Fan, but i changed it for two reasons. i reported some jackass for asking racist questions and let him know it - no one can accuse me of reporting questions without fessing up to it.

he immediately reported a couple of my answers and hadn't been in the nascar section long enough to recognize my new name, even though i was still the same long-winded gasbag in all my old answers...

plus, rowdy's #1 fan is more descriptive. i'm his fan whether he's in the number 18 cup car, the 18, 20, 32, or 92 nationwide cars, or the 51 truck.
  • from my mother
  • Just Junior's number and sponsor.
  • Where did you get your Yahoo! Answers name from?

Me, my name is Tom G. and I was elected Vice President of Nascar Nation.
  • My first car was a '83 cougar with a 302 V8 and posi rear- it was fast as hell. Someone gave me a 'bad kitty' sticker for it, i like cats anyway, and it kinda stuck. BTW- I blew it up and it was my last FORD product!!!
  • Well I use to go by Tina but it got to where every time I answered a question that certain other users would always want to type "EDIT: TINA" and argue about my answers so much that I changed my screen name to Stinky. I thought "EDIT STINKY" would be a change.
  • I was given the name Superdave from high school. I had made a couple of high lite reel plays from shortstop and my teammates called me Superdave. It was also a character from way back on the Johnny Carson show and a stunt man that did crazy stunts for fun.

I think Tom G needs to president of Nascar Nation!
    Im gonna step down.

Tom G for Nascar Nation President 2008!
You deserve it alot more than I do Tom.
  • I got mine off my license plate of my green 4x4 chevy silverado
    hence the greenbean
  • Well, my name is Becky and the second part changes all the time. This month its ♥'s B.C. awAReneSs because its breast cancer awareness month but i will probably change it again after october.
  • I'm not very imaginative. It's just my name. You should help me think of a nickname to use.
  • Well, I'm a football fan too so, ny(NEW YORK GIANTS) 21(at the time, My favorite players jersey # and, tb(His initials/Tiki Barber).
  • Mine came out of the Star Wars movies, basically a bit player, but played an important role in all 3 movies, but later on became the focus of 8 books and a comic book series. Plus it was also an alias I used to use when I was doing radio shows in college when I wasn't supposed to(GPA reasons).
  • Thats funny I've been thinking of asking this question for the longest time. Anyway, I came up with mine for an IM after Harvicks 06 win at the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at Richmond. Ever since then it just stuck and I use it for a lot of my online ID's like this.

Edit: And I know im late on my pink avatar but I just threw something together.
    <----------- LOL I think it's pretty good.
  • Dale is my middle name and H is the first letter of my last name. The Awesome Bill Fan part came because I'm a huge fan of 'Awesome' Bill Elliott.baseball rule book
  • What do you guys think about Brad Keselowski running the no.5 car this weekend?

    May be...

  • Apparently,Casey Mears' girlfriend is close to her due date and he wants to be there with her in case she goes into labor.
If I misinterpreted, feel free to correct me(as I am sure you will) ;)
  • That would be great ! I hope he can qualify it !
  • Well he is supposed to make his Sprint Cup debut at the Lowes Motor Speedway in that #5 car for Hendricks, if I'm not mistaken. Don't know if he is actually running it at Dega though, other than the last few minutes of this first practice.
  • yep it was good to see they let him practice just in case
but he's making his bebut at lowes next week anyway
  • um, i am pretty sure he was in the car towards end of practice, and i think what i heard is that he will get in if casey mears has to leave but i might be wrong bcuz everytime they started talking about it my family started talking so i dont know!!!! lol but i hope brad drives, he needs the experiense, and i cant wait till he drives at lowes, i am goin to that race, would be awesome if he won, even better if earnhardt jr won!!!
  • Yeah, they were talking about Casey's girlfriend during practice. Good luck to them and also good luck to Brad. He will for sure learn a whole lot at Talladega.
  • It's cool, but this is the first that I've heard about it. Can you provide a link?
Brad will be in the 5 eventually, so he would be the natural choice.
  • They said Casey's girlfriend is close to her due date and just in case he had to go they would put brad in the car for a little practice and if casey had to go brad would drive the number 5. I believe he will be in the 25 at Lowes.
  • I believe it was just for practice but good for Brad if he gets the call.
  • Cool if that happens.
  • Its awesome, since theres not a Nationwide race, this just gives Brad some Cup experience...I'm sure Brad will be ready if the Labor & Delivery room calls for Casey.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Had a feeling that was why. Scary thought to have a new guy (per say) @ the Talladega Race of all races. I love how they bring in new guys for the Chase Wild Card. Smart Stuff.
  • Well good for him, hope it is true.
I havent heard anything about it yet.
  • Good for him!!
I like Brad, hope he does well.
  • From what I could tell watching practice, the put Brad in the car to get some seat time just in case Casey's girlfriend goes into labour. It was my understanding that Brad is just the back up.
  • Neat. Should be interesting.
  • If Casey has chosen to be by her side more power to him. I sure this is a decission between him and the car owner.
And besides, Brad has been proving himself and he should have an oppertunity to race when he can.hawaii best time to go
  • 3.10.08

Who thinks this is a good idea?

    May be...

  • I agree. Either that or each of them has a pink ribbon taped to their dash or applied to the hood.
  • NOT BAD BUT....WHAT IF THE TIRES WERE PINK INSTEAD ....THAT WAY WHEN SOMEBODY SPINSOUT THE TIRES WILL LEAVE PINK AWARENESS RIBBONS ON THE TRACK LIKE THE BLACK ONES THEY USUALLY LEAVE WHEN THEY SPIN...OR PINK BURNOUT SMOKE??
  • awesome idea, i love nascar! Pink rims would make the cars unique. P.S. my favorite drivers are Jr., Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson =) I would love to see them with pink rims!

    GO HENDRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Cool..

    http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/sh...
  • That would be cool.
  • yea thatll b cute
  • nope, I wouldn't be on board for that one. wouldn't keep me from watching the race though...
  • Thats a really good idea and i think it would look pretty sweet too!
  • I DO......
  • Kool! They could always wear pink fire suits!

    *JUJU*
  • Great Idea and since your the VP you should be able to get it done !
  • Yes, and Jimmie Johnson wear a pink firesuit to go with the rims.
  • absolutely wonderful idea...lets petition NASCAR! Only the rookies have to run a pink and yellow striped fender!
  • Tom G:
    I agree

    Good thinking!
We should call you the President of Yahoo! Answers [The NASCAR section]... Hey why is your name VP?

I vote David G as Vice President
  • My favorite color's pink so I'm all over that one. Definitely a fun way to contribute.
  • That is a good idea.
  • why not
neon powder coated so they glow under the lights
  • I think that's a great idea.
  • Great idea; and then they should auction off the rims and use the money to support breast cancer research.
  • Not bad at all. I would go along with it.
    Like the picks helmets too.
DOnt think the guys would go for that one though'
  • I think it would be cool to see.
  • That's an awesome idea!!!!!!!
  • Awesome. You come up with all the best ideas my sweet baboo!!
  • KEWL....

How about pink helmets for all the pit guys?????

    Let's show some solidarity boys!!!!
  • All the cars at Lowe's run pink rims.
  • Teriffic idea..i like the one about pink smoke burnouts too..lolreal estate ne pa
  • Nascar Nation..................?

    May be...

  • Talladega Super speedway, or Talladega nights????

    LOL

I'd have to say the spring 2006 race.

What were there like 25 different leaders, Jimmie Johnson won!!!

    Andrea, enjoy your day!!!

    Yay!

    and there was much rejoicing...
  • I remember the first time i got to go to Dega. it was before they had assigned parking on the infield in turns 3 and 4. me and my dad squoze between 2 huge campers in our little honda accord. We slept in the front seats and it was so muddy and rainy we had to get pulled out of the mud after the race on sunday.. There was a good crash in the ARCA race on friday right in turn three and four. We made friends with the people in one of the campers next to us and sat on top of theirs to watch the race. it was a great Father/Son trip and one ill never forget!!!

    Congrats Andrea... enjoy your day...
  • when bobby labonte and Tony Stewart were racing and how bobby beat him to the line and then TONY congratulated him.

    ALSO

THIS YEAR in the NNS race jr. and tony stewert were going at it and tony won and jr. nation i think threw no trash.

ANDREA YOU ROCK YOU HAVE GREAT ANSWERS AND YOU DESERVE TO BE A TOP CONTRIBUTOR TALK TO YAHOO
  • My favorite Talladega memory would have to be Dale Earnhardt's last win in 2000.I loved (and still enjoy the replays)watching him slice his way through the field for that win.Just another display of why Earnhardt is the greatest!!!
  • EARNHARDT every race

    Andrea have a good one
  • Whats tallaga?
  • I don't remember what year it was and Im not hatin or wanting anything bad to ever happen to a driver but the race where Brian Vickers got a run on Jimmie Johnson going towards turn 3 on the backstretch and slid under him and Jimmie came down and spun and cause Jiimmie the vicotory I think that was the beginning of the end at HMS for Vickers.

Congrats on your day of honor Andrea {26 & 43}! Im a fan of both your drivers especially Bobby Labonte. Your are a real asset to this forum and I always enjoy reading your answers. Your answers are always nice and you never bash drivers or the great people of this forum. Good luck to your drivers this weekend at Talladega and have a great weekend!

***On a side note: Tom, you are the MAN!***
  • I don't really have one in particular... I'm just answering to honor Andrea!
  • If your not first, your last!

    Have a good one Andrea
  • What is your favorite Talladega memory?

    Today we will honor...

    Andrea {26 & 43}

    Enjoy your day!
  • I can't say it's my "favorite" memory...but it certainly is the most memorable one...this I think about all the time when the race is at 'dega...and that is Elliot's 2003 flip/crash:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub91A_ciI...

    Andrea {26 & 43}......to a great contributor....[_]}...Cheers! Enjoy your day!!!
  • Yay! Thanks everyone! (Thanks for honoring me today Tom G)

Hmm, my favorite Talladega memory would have to be, when Jimmie Johnson and Dale Jr spun, and Brian Vickers went on to win. Just an adrenaline pumping finish. Everyone thought Jr had it then that happened.
  • Correct me if I am wrong....
A few yrs ago, when JR got busted for saying...' Don't mean sh**, Daddy won here ten times'

Then NASCAR got mid-evil on him and he hasn't been the same since.

For what ever reason, that is the only thing that sticks out in my mind at right now.

    Coffees ready
  • Have a wonderful day Andrea....but I don't have a favorite memory yet...
  • Last year when Jeff Gordon won both races ! Congratulations Andrea{26 & 43} Enjoy your day !
  • SENIORS LAST WIN ........
  • Senior's last win. He was having a pretty bad year and it was great to see that black #3 in victory lane. The clip is a little long but has some great racing!

    Have a wonderful day Andrea!

Enjoy the race this weekend. Heres hoping the 26 and 43 have good runs.
  • I can't really think of a definite FAVORITE Talladega memory. Maybe you should ask what's your favorite Daytona memory tomorrow, I can answer you then. ;)

Congrats Andrea, you deserve it. You give out great answers, and not to mention you're someone after my own heart.(even though you joined here almost a year before me, so that might not make alot of sense...) enjoy your day!definition of civil liberties
  • How are Nascar winnings figured?

    May be...

  • Hornish made 125,000 for finishing 35 while Jr made 117,350 for finishing 10th?? Im confused lol or this predetermined or sponsor money or what? Thx.

    http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2008/9/d...

    .

  • There is a set value for all 43 positions. In addition to that set value there are numerous contingency and incentives from sponsors, NASCAR and other sources that not all of the drivers participate in. It is a really complicated system but the following link has a decent explanation of everything (second question down):
    http://www.nascar.com/2005/news/features...how to make magazines
  • Why does Nascar seperate the field before the start?

    May be...

  • Just like the first two said, they do it to get their tach readings. If they put the whole field together they cars at the back will end up have a different reading, the whole accordion effect thing.
  • So they can set their tachs for pit road speed, most "parade/pace" laps are run at pit road speed.
  • .of the race into two groups and then bring them together before the green flag?
  • To let them match their RPM's with the pit road speedtelnet ipaq
  • Will talledega help me watch nascar again ?

    May be...

  • For the past two weeks? Kansas? Dover? Are you on crack? If you didn't find those races exciting, I feel sorry for you... now if you were talking about early in the season, or either race at California, I'd understand... but I want to know what Dover race you were watching...
  • Hey, don't give up on it! You have to take the good with the bad...just hang in there! NASCAR ROCKS! You could always bet on the race, then it would keep your interest...JK.

    *JUJU*
  • Nascar's going bankrupt. http://www.theolympian.com/647/story/601...
  • What races have you been watching? I understand your opinion of the awful commentary, which is why I listen to MRN, but what do you mean these races sucked?
  • try listening to it on the radio. and if i wreck or something happens that you must see turn it on the tv for afew.. That radio makes it almost twice as exciting as it really is.. It worked for some other people.. i could work for you.
  • For the past 2 weeks iv just felt bored watching nascar , it just seems draining watching either its the commentary or something

The commentary seems like NATIONWIDE commentary , the excitement is somewhat gone that's why i dont watch NATIONWIDE
  • Football started??
  • Nothing to make a Nascar fan into a bigger Nascar fan than Talladega!pocketnes roms
  • 2.10.08

What is the first race you ever attended?

    May be...

  • Pocono in I want to say 96 or 97. I remember it well but i don't remember the year (wierd i know)
  • Talladega april 2004. Jr won. It was awesome except my driver did'nt win
  • New Hampshire

I am sorry to do this in here, but seriously kelly what did I do to you, leave me alone. I did nothing to you.

I wish I knew, but she hates me or I should say my choice in drivers, however with this happening I have found out that some of my contacts feel the same as she does, so I guess I should thank her.

No try like round 7 she has had 5 questions deleted about me tonite.
  • We had to hold off on going to actual races for a long time.
My 14 year old son has a hard time with over-stimulation and just wouldn't have been able to handle that much of it. (Asperger's)
Last year's race at LVMS was our first.

He did okay, did even better this year. So now it's an annual event.
  • Drag Racing at BIR
  • My first cup race was the 2004 Food City 500 at Bristol with Kurt Busch winning and Dale Jr spinning hisself out on purpose to bring out a caution to keep from going a lap down and bragging about it on the team radio. Nascar frowned upon that bigtime.
  • My first race was Talladega April 27, 2008....and I've been hooked ever since...I'm hoping to get tickets to Atlanta...

Kyle Busch won under caution with Montoya in second
  • Daytona 500 I was 12 and oh ya ILUVRS SUCKS...........see you can run but you can't hide cry baby!

I have 5 downs and she has 7 ups, You people are crazy!
  • Martinsville 2005 was my first race! I have a funny story! There was this Rusty Wallace fan sitting in front of us and he was acting like he was driving a car and when Rusty would make a turn so would he! Then when Rusty would pass by where we were sitting that man would hold up his can of Miller Lite! Then Rusty wrecked and that guy was Mad! Then when we were leaving there we had to walk down this hill well everyone had been pouring the water out of their coolers there and it was soo slick and this man was like be careful that hill is slicker than greased owl ****! It was pretty funny I thought!
  • 1993 August MIS race... wow i was 5 and dont remember much

It seems that Nascar drivers dont leave, like we have the same drivers every year, but interesting fact, only 4* full-time drivers of 43 still racing today who drove in that race.

*Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Michael Waltrip, and Bobby Labonte.

(Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte, Ken Schrader and Kyle Petty non-full time)
  • August 1960,Dixie Speedway,Midfield Alabama.
Race won by Ned Jarrett.Race had 3 Pettys raceing(Lee,Richard,Maurice).
  • Phoenix 02. I had to take my twins. They were almost 2 years old.
  • The Marlboro 500 at Michigan International Speedway 1990...
    ...(yawns)...
    ...open wheel sucks...
  • Pheonix in 1995. I live in Missouri and all the stars came together because my ex-brother in law's uncle lived in Pheonix and they were both race fans. His uncle had a nice house in the suburbs that we stayed at and he drove us around in a sweet '85 Bronco because he was one of the founder's of the "Ari-Veda" 4 wheelers club.(Short for Arizona-Neveda)
Never in my life would I have dreamed I would be flying to Arizona to attend a Cup race. But I did. Twice!

There was a crash and somebodys car punched a hole in the wall and they had to red flag the race for 45 minutes to repair the wall. People were whining about the delay but I looked at it as a bonus 45 minute extension to one of the best days of my life! Ricky Rudd won!
I went back a 2nd time in 1996 and we sat on the back side of the track. I saw Bobby Hamilton win in Petty's #43!! I SAW THE 43 WIN!!
  • Gosh I have been going to races since I was just a little squirt so honestly I can't remember my first but I do know had to be back in the 70's.
  • The first race I ever attended was the spring race at Pocono in 2004. I remember it was cold and the race seemed to take forever.

I do have a funny story though about my mom's first race which was the spring race at Loudon last year. We got to the grandstands and just sat down when she saw Tony Stewart in the Old Spice car. That was all we heard about the whole weekend.
  • 1971 Daytona 500 I was 10
  • I don't watch Nascar.
  • Feel free to add any interesting/funny stories from that event.
My first race was the Fall Charlotte race in 2004.Jimmie Johnson won in the HMS 20th Anniversary platinum car to start a string of four wins in five events(Charlotte,Martinsville,Atlanta,Da... was at that one, too!)
  • My first race was last years Michigan June race. Carl Edwards won,
Funny thing (well atleast funny in my eyes) My cousin was there and him and 4 of his buddies made a bet about what car make would win and he picked chevy to win, I told him he was going to lose his butt, because a ford was going to win. And I was like if I had money I would bet you right now that Carl Edwards in a ford would win. Too bad I didnt because I would have won.
  • i'll have to ask mom i was just a baby
  • my first race was also the fall charlotte race. but it was 1991, the mello-yello 500. i was also at jeff gordons first career win, the 1994 coke 600. i was at that martinsville race you mentioned in 2004. if i'm not mistaken that was the race when the hendrick plane crashed, killing ricky hendrick and the others. i camped that weekend as i always do at martinsville and it was a cold, misty, foggy, miserable weekend.
  • Daytona 1968 , I was four !
  • My very first was the Firecracker 400 on or about July 4th,
1960-something. I was about 6 at the time. I don't remember much except the noise and as a 6 year old I found that exhilarating!

As an adult, my first race I attended was Phoenix in 2003. And Jr won! My husband the Jeff Gordon fan was not impressed. Nor was he impressed when after the race, as we were trying to walk between some cars lined up bumper to bumper on a track access road, that Jeff Burton almost ran him over. He actually bumped him with a rental car. My husband hit the hood of the hood of the car with his fist and said some bad words. I cut behind him and in front of Matt Kensenth who was much more pleasant and didn't hit me. :-) I've referred to Jeff Burton as "husband killer" ever since. But I still like him.
  • I haven't attended a NASCAR event yet, per se, although I have been to a few Monster Truck Rallies and several Demolition Derbies... I hope to catch either the truck series or the Nationwide series at Gateway next year...
  • My very first race was the Daytona Nationwide race this past February. I remember the bus driver that took us from the parking lot to the stadium was driving like a mad man and everyone on the bus kept reminding him that he wasn't in the race.
Other than that it was pretty awesome.
  • Pocono 500 in 2003
My current favorite at the time, Jimmie Johnson, was on the pole and my brother's favorite, Tony Stewart, won. That was a great day!
  • The 2005 Oct Atlanta race.....the Bass Pro Shops WNBA 500. Rusty (my then favorite) was involved in a wreck on like lap 6 but I made my mom stay anyway. And Carl (my now favorite) won the race.
  • Phoenix. Before PIR was holding NASCAR races, was going to the Copper World Classic in February's (awesome day at the races), and what was called Winston West (similar to ARCA today), the forerunner of NASCAR at that track.
Before NASCAR Richard & Kyle Petty would BOTH attend the Copper World, and The King did finish first, Kyle second that day. Bill Cheesbourgh (9 time Indy 500 driver), and Bobby Unser were both in that race. Never forget it.where are they now yes members

  • Jimmie Johnson vs. Lewis Hamilton who's the best ?

    May be...

  • I'll go with Lewis Hamilton.

Because I have never heard of Jimmy Johnson
  • That's like asking who's the best between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Buffalo Bills...
  • Lewis cause jimmy suck egg rolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • It's apples and oranges and both drivers are awesome in there respective series.
  • kimi raikkonen ...hehe..;-)
    sorry never heard of Johnson...
  • No comparison. Neither could be successful driving the others car. JJ is a team mate and Massa is my fav F1 driver so I am not a big Hamilton fan anyway. JJ has won a few cups already, Hamilton has not and it ain't over yet. Now if you were to compare JJ to Schumi then I would have to put JJ back on the bench.
  • I'll say Hamilton he is my fav F1 driver, and he will probably be the next World Driving Champion, he is only 22 y/o. I like Jimmie also.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Well since we're in the NASCAR section and I do not watch F1 I will have to go with Jimmie Johnson.................
  • both are leading their series, in Nascar and F1toyota mr2 owners club
  • NASCAR Nation: Would you feel comfortable if a driver under 21 drove a car sponsored by ?

    May be...

  • Well, I mean it is just a sponsor but like Dave said it would be sending the wrong message and its not like that driver could/should be promoting it much then...... so no i guess i wouldnt feel very comfy with that idea
  • Honestly- No. You have to be a spokesman for your company and sponsor.
Nascar is rooted in so much of a family way that they would not allow something like that to happen. I hope they wouldn't anyway.

Good night Jozi and fellow members of Nascar Nation. It time for this Disney chick to turn in. Remember Think Pink.
  • Yeah it wouldn't bother me. It is a sponser for the team not the driver.
  • Wedge is right, they wouldn't allow it.

  • I think they should be 21 before they are sponsored by an alcoholic beverage, I agree with superdave it would send the wrong message to underage kids
  • I have no problem with it. It is a team sponsor and the kid would be a good spokesman for 21 means 21.
  • I wouldnt Jozi. I think they need to be 21 if they are going to drive a car sponsored by a beer company or any other spirits. I think it would send a wrong message to the youth of America.

  • NASCAR would'nt allow it anyway. Kyle Busch was not allowed to carry a Bud Pole award on his car until after he turned 21.
  • I don't think it would be right. Nascar is a family based sport and I agree with Dave, it doesn't send a very good message to the younger fans or to anyone truthfully. The statistics on underage drinking is outrageous anyhow and that would just encourage it more. JMO

Rusty Wallace coming back to racing?

    May be...

  • I hope not. Crusty sucks.
  • It may sound like a rumor and may be a rumor but I have always felt he left too early. I've also had this gut feeling that he wants to race again ... no matter what comes out of his mouth I think it's still in his heart.. Rusty was always consistent as a driver. I'd like to see him race again.
  • Could be,,,,,,,,,I am sure he misses it and even though I am not a fan he is still better than a bunch that are out there right now.

  • Oh boy! Here comes trouble! j/k :-)
My first thought before I read the article was, "Well, Brett did it!"
I know a lot of people who would love to see Rusty give it another shot.
  • That would have been cool. Even if it was temporary. I'd love to just hear him say "I have a hot rod today" just once more.
  • Oh great I guess he needs his ego stroked some more.
  • he cant because rusty has been racing since 1970s
  • I would rather watch him race then listen to him in the booth !
  • Juju,

As much as I agree, the race would be missing so many of the old time greats(Dale Earnhardt, The Hamiltons, etc.) that it wouldn't be the same. Plus, I don't know how many retired guys they could get to step back into a car.

On the article- I think Rusty should stay where he is, he was a good driver, but he belongs in the booth now, with DJ
  • He is still denying it, but it would be interesting. Maybe they should get together all the "old" drivers for an exhibition. Jarrett, D.W., drag Childress out there, Petty, etc.

    *JUJU*
  • I dont think that is a good idea. I already cant stand him when he broadcasts. I dont think I could handle it if he came back to racing.
  • AWESOME!!!!
  • Not happening:

From an article at SPEEDtv.com by Kenny Wallace: The hot NASCAR rumor right now is not something you’d hear anywhere other than around the race shops in Mooresville, N.C. Everyone wants to know if my brother Rusty Wallace is coming out of retirement to drive for Dale Earnhardt Inc. next season. I’m running the #00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega and was at Michael’s shop Tuesday being fitted for my seat. Six different crew members came up to me and said they’d heard a rumor Rusty was coming back to drive for DEI. These rumors get started in the Mooresville area because the shops are so close to each other and nothing can be kept secret for long. All I can say is that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And he is definitely considering stepping back into a race car. He’s considering this huge move because he watched Brett Favre come out of retirement in the NFL and his good friend Mark Martin is giving it another shot next year at Hendrick. If Mark had quit, Rusty would have been comfortable with his retirement. But watching Mark, who is a couple of years younger than my brother, stage this comeback has really tugged on Rusty’s heartstrings. Rusty has told me numerous times he can outrun half the drivers in the Cup Series and he truly is giving a lot of thought to returning to the track. If he wants to make that commitment, I’ll support him 110-percent. The decision is Rusty’s and his wife Patti’s, but I think the whole possibility is very inspirational and I’m looking forward to his answer. If he comes back, I think he’ll be a bit surprised by the new car. I predict Rusty will be successful but he’ll be shocked that he won’t have control of the chassis the way he used to. He’ll have an adjustment period because the cars are controlled by engineers, bump-stops and seven-post machines, technology that wasn’t in such great use when he left the sport. There is no doubt Rusty has the talent to run well but he’ll probably be upset he won’t be able to set up the car on his own or tell the team how to do it. Maybe we’ll know sometime soon if I’m right or not.

UPDATE: Rusty Wallace on Wednesday denied a report that he is considering ending his three-year retirement to drive again -- possibly for former rival Dale Earnhardt's team. "I love Kenny to death; he's been trying to get me back in a car ever since I retired after 2005," Rusty Wallace said in a statement. "While any rumors like this are certainly flattering, they're untrue. I have a long-term commitment to ABC and ESPN and I really love what I'm doing right now."
  • i say interesting, cause last week i posted a question asking "who would you like to come back and race once again, Rusty Wallace or Darrell Waltrip?". well, i guess for those who chose Rusty will get their chance to see him race.
  • He needs to quit in the broadcast booth. He is the most annoying announcer they have. He wishes his son could finish a race. Steven and Rusty history.game jawbreaker pc
  • Nascar fans, what do you think of this article?

    May be...

  • Could you imagine that only 40 miles on a single charge, the Coke 600 would take forever !
  • Quite "electrifying!!"

  • I can hear it now "OMG the leader has run out of electric on the last lap"...or "will this be a race run on electrical mileage???"

    Gentlemen...plug in your engines...lol

The points leader just stopped in for a quick jolt of electric and four tires...

The plug man left the lead cord IN the car...oh no he has to go to the very end of the lead lap...

    LOL
  • oh Lord what next solid wheels so they wont go flat
  • LOL @ Maggie!!! Those are priceless!!
  • I don't know! It just wouldn't seem like racing if I didn't have to hand signal "Do you want a hotdog and a beer at the next caution?" to my husband sitting next to me.

Of course they could pipe in the engine sounds and do that smell-o-vision trick to make it smell like burnt rubber and Sonoco gold.

Maybe when I'm old and my grandkids are pushing me around Daytona in my wheelchair I won't mind it so much! But I probably will!

  • I have to agree that it was the all conquering Willams.
As much of a Schumi fan I am, he didn't have a grid full of World Champions to contend with and with the modern rules- was in a much 'safer' place.

Lest we forget QUITE how dominant their machines were. Although not as powerful as the beast 'turbo' cars of the 80's (That 87 Williams.. .Wow!) but the '92 car was complete technological 'active' wonder .
If Mansell DIDN'T win the title in that car it would've been a travesty.
The first to win 9 in a season, wrapped the constructors in record time and -most importantly- looked absolutely beautiful. it says something that the only other drivers to win a race were two legends themselves!

I long for them to be seriously competitive again!
  • The 1988 Marlboro McLaren Honda MP4/4 was the most dominant car in the history of Formula One. It was designed by Gordon Murray, who based the design on his lowline Brabham BT55 car of 1986, and American engineer Steve Nichols

The MP4/4 took 15 wins from 16 races, 15 pole positions, and 199 points, all in a single season.

it only raced once then it's design was deemed illegal. it's the only f1 car with a 100% winning record
  • Very recently this same question has been asked, and people agreed that the car was the Ferrari 2004, yes there is no denial that the car track record is completely unbeatable and incontestable, but I still tend to believe that the most dominant car was the Williams 1992, for a number of reasons.

The Ferrari 2004, 1 - Had Schumacher on the drivers seat 2 - The rest of the grid was composed by puny drivers, 3 - Modern F1 Car are more reliable improving the odds that the fastest will win.

The Williams 1992 - Had Mansell, against might Ayrton Senna, and Michael Schumacher, and even so he managed to finish 1st or 2nd on every race that he did not retire.

I would like to hear the community opinions on that matter.
  • The MP4/4 is officially the most dominant package F1 has ever witnessed. A Gordon Murray car paired with Prost and Senna won 15 out of 16 races. Even though a pairing of Prost and Senna favoured the team anyway, the car was generally 1 second a lap quicker than any other car in the hands of Prost and 2.5 seconds a lap quicker in the hands of Senna.

The car used the brilliant Honda Turbo. Honda decided in the previous year to develop the engine further even though Turbo was to be banned in '89. The rest of the field decided to concentrate on preparing for the naturally aspirated '89 then spend resources of developing something with only a years lifespan.

Murray also designed the car with a very low centre of gravity which greatly improved handling. No car has ever been as successful since.

The Williams FW14 was also very dominant. It coupled advanced technology such as active suspension and a semi-auto gearbox with brilliant Adrien Newey aerodynamics. It was ahead of its time and also to advanced for its own good. It did suffer a lot of mechanical failures. You could argue that in the hands of Senna and Prost, this car would be more dominant than the MP4/4. It’s a tough question but I think that the Mclaren would shine as racers such as Senna would be at a greater advantage without the aids I believe. Who knows.

The F2004 was also extremely dominant, winning 15 of 18 races in one season the same as the dominant F2002. The F2004 is the fastest F1 car there has ever been. It consisted of a race winning car evolved over a number of years and perfected. It had over 900hp, hugely efficient aerodynamics, and advanced electronics. But the restrictions on car design of 2004 means that although it was hugely dominant, it did not have the pace advantage of the FW14 or the MP4/4.
  • I shall disagree with everyone and say the Mclaren MP-4/4.
That car won 15 of the 16 races it entered. Pole for 15 races and it took 199 points in a single season. It also acquired 10 fastest laps and it had 9 1-2 finished for Prost and Senna.

    ***edit***

Redsnookerball has a point. The Mclaren MP-4/4 did have 2 amazing drivers to help propell it to the realm of true genius. It does also prove that an amazing car combined with the best drivers is something truly wonderful to see.
  • I'm going to agree with what was put on the other question, the F2004 was the most dominant car ever. It won 15 out of 18 races, 8 of those were 1-2s. Barrichello only won 2 of those races, and one of those was under team orders once the title had already been won; The WIlliams FW14B won 11 out of 16 races, with six 1-2s and one win for Patrese.

In my opinion Patrese was better than Barrichello, even at the end of his career - if you're not old enough to remember him, then you won't be able to make a proper comparison just from the history books as Patrese drove some really bad cars during his career and Barrichello had the best car in the whole field for 5 consecutive years.

As to the Williams beating Senna and Schumacher, neither of those drivers had a decent car that season. The only reason Senna won 3 races that season was sheer brilliance. Schumacher was still at the start of his career and the Benetton wasn't yet the best car by a long way. Yes, the Williams allowed Patrese to come second in 1992, but the F2004 allowed Barrichello to do that as well (and he only did that on one other occasion in his whole careeer, again with the best car in 2002).

The FW14B WAS the most dominant car of all time until the F2004 was built.

Just to pick up on a point you raised, surely being reliable is PART of being dominant? Otherwise you could say that in 1984 Brabham was dominant over the McLaren - it certainly had the fastest car, it just didn't finish very often. I think most people would agree that it was McLaren who dominated the 1984 season, not Brabham, and they did it with an almost bullet-proof car which was only about the third best in terms of speed.
  • there are no doubts, the McLaren of Senna and Prost, it won all the race in one season expect one, it was flying, the Williams Renault of 1992-1997 was strong too
  • I'm with Derek on this, the McLaren MP4/4 of 1988 was on a different planet that year, it was a combination of great drivers, great chassis and aerodynamics and great engine and swept all before it.
  • 2004 had -
    Kimi Raikkonen
    David Coulthard
    Fernando Alonso

these were all challenging drivers and they didnt do well ...no question due to their cars.....and this clearly says...that F2004 was the best car...!!hertz mustang shelby
  • If Kyle Petty was to retire - Would you have a problem with him driving the 43 in Petty Blue sponsored by STP?

    May be...

  • I'd be all for it!

(Although I'd rather he drove the black 42 Mello Yello car again... could he be going back to Ganassi? [he used to drive for Team SABCO, which evolved into CGRWFS])
  • I have a little problem with it because we all know he'd finish 43rd 8 laps down.
  • I don't think i would have a problem with that. i think his father would be honored.
  • Nope not at all, jozi I have a diecast of the Mellow Yellow car, it was cool looking.
  • That would be awesome! Bobby Labonte ran a few races with STP sponsorship in 2006 so I think it could happen for Kyle if he did drive the #43.
  • I think that would be awesome !
  • Absolutely not. I enjoyed it when Marcos Ambrose used his colors.

Petty Blue. I have a box of wheaties from like 1986 in Petty Blue. I almost ate them one night in 90 when I was stoned.
  • I wouldn't mind it at all. In fact I think it would be a great idea. I used to loathe Kyle Petty. I just didn't realize what a fine, upstanding human being he really is.
  • Nope..

  • If you had three different primary sponsors such as Elliott Sadler...?

    May be...

  • I wouldn't let it bother me a bit. I would take it any way I could get it (support). With the economy the way it is I couldn't blame companies for pinching pennies.
  • Like everyone else said, I would just be grateful to have a sponsor. There are too many teams out there right now that are struggling to even get/keep a sponsor to be picky enough to be upset over not having the same one all season.
  • At this point the way sponsors are I would take it as a great thing, 3 primary sponsors you know your racing the whole year and that's all that would matter to me.
  • wouldnt 3 be better than one
  • Its just a sign of the economy and probable will get worse not better. should be happy the have sponsors.
  • It would depend. If I was a good driver that was consistent then I'd be excited. If I wasn't that good then I'd be nervous about losing sponsorship.

    -Edit-

I think there's a troll in our midst. Everyone except the newest answers have gotten a thumbs down. Tom G wouldn't do that.
  • I would take it as a good thing. More money because they are going to be fighting for the races where they can be the primary sponsor and have their paint scheme on it!
  • Sponsors are overrated. Look at Travis Kvapil, he probably did better without a sponsor then he did with Hitachi on the car.

I'm not saying sponsors are unimportant but people overemphasize it at times.
  • I would be thankful I have enough sponsors to make a full race season. Then, hopefully somebody will like my performance and pick me up for a whole year next season!

    *MOJO*
  • I'd take it as no one certain sponsor can afford to sponsor me as much as they would want to sponsor me. Then I would be happy that my hood wasn't blank like some others were/are.

I like all of Elliots sponsors. He's a good enough driver to get sponsored and you watch...next year when he does even better he will have others fighting to sponsor him. Maybe GEM is giving all of his sponsor a chance to shine and show their stuff to be fair because they were all fighting over him. :0)
  • I really wouldn't even think about that. That would a pointless distraction. I'd be thankful that I have these sponsors that are giving my team millions of dollars.
  • I guess it would be a good thing.
Because if one of them left you, You wouldn't really have to worry.
  • If you had 3 sponsors, if one bailed you wouldn't be left scrambling to find an immediate replacement before you could continue your season. If 3 companies want to sponsor you, esp. ones so different as Sadler's, that's a good sign: it shows that you have broad appeal, so you can be marketed to just about anybody.
  • A lot of cars have multiple sponsors.. Roush actually shares their sponsors from car to car and series to series. It's a great way to market several companies and drivers.

    :)
  • Well, look at Matt... he has what, 5 primary sponsors? (Carhartt, DeWalt, USG, R&L, and Dish) No one can argue that he's a bad driver. I think it's amazing if you get through the year with any sponsor on your car these days... look at poor Robby Gordon, who has to put out desperate pleas on his website for sponsors for certain races, or Travis Kvapil, who's had what, 18 different sponsors this year?
  • In these tough economic times?? I'd take it as a GOOD THANG.
  • With the economy the way it is now. I would take what I could get.
I really dont think they mind too much.
  • Would you take it as a good thing that a lot of companies want to sponsor you or would you take it as a bad thing that not one sponsor wants to support you for a whole year?
  • Look at it as a good thing. I do, Kyle has 5 of them.
  • I'd take it as a good thing. Seems to me 3 is better than 1 any day especially now. It definitely keeps ya racin'. These days ya just never know.
  • The way the economy is I think that might be the way a lot of the drivers will have sponsors in the future. Jeff has 3 also ,so I wouldn't worry about it.hp 1945 pda

Are the fuel pumps on the cars mechanical or electrical?

    May be...

  • mechanical
  • electrical.
  • They are mechanical for safety reasons.
  • The fuel pumps on NASCAR cars are mechanically driven for safety reasons. You don’t want the fuel pump on a crashed car to continue to pump fuel. The Waterman fuel pump, is a cable-driven pump that is mounted on the fuel cell (as opposed to on the engine). This type of fuel pump is run on the Chevy R07 engines, but I understand that the 2008 Toyota engines (which I assume Hamlin would have been running) also use this type of pump. (interesting explanation...this answer is half way down the page).

    *MOJO*
  • Mechanical
  • They are a mechanical pump. Within the last couple years, they switched to the Waterman pump. It driven by a cable, and mounts in the rear of the car. If you'll remember, the Gibbs teams had some problems with it last year. Tony was dominating at Bristol, and the cable broke.
They switched to this system because it was safer than having the pump mounted on the motor. Remember how the Chevys used to be very susceptible to fire when they hit the wall hard with the right side of the car? It was because the pump was mounted right inside the frame rail, on the side of the motor. And when the car hit hard enough, it would shear the pump right off. They even had one of those computer simulation graphics that they would show , after it would happen during a race.
  • They are mechanical.danelli venice

  • Menards not that good of a driver.
Hopefully DEI can get a driver that can yield results.
And hopefully Truex makes the chase next season.

Sorry, I disagree with lol Teresa.
Lol, Junebug....if he were in the #8 car this season, he'd be higher in points standings right now. That car when run by a driver with experience runs better than the #88. He'd still be top dog at DEI instead of 1 of 3 at HMS. Too bad he couldn't keep his ego in check......pity.
  • That's what I read on Sports Center last night.

I would not be surprised if AJ Allmondinger (spelling) gets a ride with DEI.
  • i don't know about that. yates isn't excactly brining home wins and championships. with truex and amirola now we will probably be hearing more good things from dei in 2009 than we will yates.
  • Tough for DEI. They only have one full time sponsor next year and that is Bass Pro Shops for Truex Jr. Almirola will lose US Army to Stewart Hass most likely and the 01 car may end up shuttting down due to lack of sponsorship
  • Losing a sponsor with deep pockets is usually a very bad deal but in this situation DEI also gets rid of a very poor driver without much hope of improving. Paul will have a ride as long as his dad will sponsor him but he could never make it in NASCAR if he had to attract his own sponsors based on his race production and popularity with the fans. Let's see how long Jack will put up with his lack of performance and all the cars he will wreck over at Yates/Roush/Fenway Racing.

  • You reckon DEI regrets letting Jr go now...haha...
  • Yes, I heard the rumor from my two buddies at Penske back in August. I think it's a good move for both Paul and Yates. I also agree with your "lol" at Teresa....she reaps what she sows in my opinion.
  • i just saw something about it through scenedaily.com.
  • Yep I heard that last night, posted a question about it too. I think it's terrible the wicked step-monster couldn't check her ego at the door and let Junior take the 'wheel'. I love DEI because I have been a fan of Dale Earnhardt all my life but to bad he left the majority to her. I would think she would do anything possible to save it for the late-great Intimidator but she is to selfish to see past herself. If it was just her that was going to be in trouble I would be happy but she is jeopardizing DEI not to mention the careers of Truex & Almirola. Shame on her for not giving enough of a damn.

I hope DEI will be alright and Truex & Almirola are able to do some great things next year all in honor of Dale Earnhardt.

  • John Force
  • If there is absoulutely nothing on...I mean NOTHING on...I will watch it. I don't really know any drivers but i know the series so I guess my favorite is Pro Stock or Funny Cars since they look the most like RACE cars.

  • sometimes but i really aint learned who's who
i mean i know the big names but if i watch racin i wanna know'em all
  • I don't know why, but I've never really gotten into drag racing. I'll watch occassionally but I'm not an huge fan. I like Ron Capps only because of his funny Napa commercial with Micheal Waltrip. (Geez, I hope that was Ron Capps! )
  • Do any of you watch NHRA? Who is your favorite?

Mine is Ron Capps in the funny cars
  • If it's on, I'll keep it on but the schedule and the points are too confusing for me, if someone can please email me and explain them to me. I'd have to pick a driver. I have a Tony Fuller autograph so maybe I'll go with him.
  • You better believe it! Im a huge NHRA fan.

    My Favorites:
Top Fuel: Larry Dixon,(Darrell Russell R.I.P)
Funny Car: John Force, Ron Capps
    Pro Stock: Greg Anderson
    Pro Stock Bike: Angelle Sampey

There is nothing like being at the start line of a top fuel drag race at the start when they hammer it. It will shake your insides!
  • I like John Force. That dude's pretty eccentric.
  • Don't really watch it, but my fav would probably be that Force dude.
  • Sometimes, but those cars kind of scare me a bit. They can explode!!! I like Ashley Force.

    Girl Power!!!!
  • I love NHRA!

    My favorites:
Funny Car: Cruz and Tony Pedregon
    Top Fuel: Tony Schumacher
    Pro Stock: V Gaines
Pro Stock Motorcycle: I honestly don't pay much attention...
  • Haven't watched it since Rickie Smith stepped down to a lower series.
Rickie was my all time fav....plus his shop is only 1 hour from my house. He's a great guy and great competitor...still catch him when I can at Farmington Dragway. But NHRA just doesn't capture my attention like it used to.
  • i do. not as much as i watch nascar, but our family has followed the nhra for decades. my step-dad used to race willy's trucks up at the sacramento speedway, and my brother was an nhra vintage dragster driver. my favorites of all time have to be "big daddy" don garlits and don "the snake" prudhomme. i also liked the battles between the snake and the tom "mongoose" mcewen.

as for current drivers, i'd have to go with antron brown in top fuel - still can't believe he made the transition as well as he did - john and ashley force in funny car; the professor in pro-stock, and angelle sampey on the bikes.
  • Where is the high pitch sound coming from in an F1 Car?

    May be...

    blind school
  • Exhaust or Engine? If it is the engine, where and why?
  • .

The most recent developmentof a high pitch sound that I can recall was Vettel at Monza, and bloody right too!!

    .
  • sure combustion doesnt make noise......
    ur a genius. Report Abuse
  • It's because the engine revs so high. A normal car engine revs to around 7,500 rpm, But f1 cars rev to 19,000 rpm. Thats more than double the revs. The reason they make such a high pitched sound is because there are so many sound waves (the engine is turning 316.6 times per second) and the engines are very small. Also there is no silencer in the exhaust sytem, because they slow the car down, so these F1 cars are really loud...

    Hope that answers the question
  • (f1)engine - Exhaust/exhaust = driver dead + ppl at the grandstands fainting.
    !!

hence the sound is created inside the engine which is delivered out of it with the help of silencer/exhaust...
this high pitch sound is created cause the engines rev at 19000 RPM, which means each cylinder in the engine(which consists of 8cyl in V)..has 19000 blasts inside them that is 19000 X 8 =1,52,000 controlled blasts per second..... and so many blasts per second drives that F-1 car and hence that high pitch noise,...which actually is silenced with the help of silencer.....without silencer...check the formula i gave u on the top...;-)

Thats why I chose these 2 Drivers. Oh and because they are always under the radar.

    Hope I explained it thorough.
  • I picked David because:
    A:He was young
B:Because he was doing pretty good
    C:Because seemed Nice
    D:He's cute
  • My favorite is Tony Stewart. I became a fan of his when he was on ESPN's Thursday Night Thunder running the midgets. So for me, it was driving style at first that drew me to him. Later as he moved to the IRL I began to love his personality. Now in NASCAR he is the link to the past. He is the kind of driver that Cale Yarborough was. Fiery and aggressive both on the track and off. Speaks his mind....that is a refreshing change in today's PC NASCAR world.
  • I pick my driver for manuacture. I picked Kenseth back in 2000 because he was going to Roush. I don't know what I will do if he pulls a mark martin or a jeff burton. I am a manufacture guy. I pull for fords every week, Matt in particular though.
  • both. rowdy has mad skills, and is often mad off-track as well. as he said in an interview not all that long ago - "i am a miserable person." he was half-joking as he had just won a race, but only half. he is a racer on and off the track, and has a one track mind - one track at a time that is, and he wants to be on a track every day racing, and would be if his schedule permitted.

i actually picked kurt as my first favorite when i caught "nascar fever" in vegas back around five or six years ago. i probably would have picked kyle straight off but he hadn't yet come back from his "mandatory vacation" from nascar's top series - mandatory in that after he had already raced six truck races when he was sixteen, but was ejected from the track at "fontuckit" as CART was having an event sponsored by a tobacco company that weekend. CART had a rule prohibiting anyone under 18 in the garage for such events. a few weeks later, nascar implemented a minimum age rule and kyle had to take a two year break.

living in vegas, when i went to my first live race in 2003 i was told by friends to pick a favorite to follow. i picked the hometown boy kurt and watched his rise and fall over the next few years. but it was early on that i read kurt's quote about his little brother being the best driver in the family. so from his first race back in the major series, i cheered for kyle, and felt a closer affinity as i got to be his fan right from the start of his re-entrance to nascar. and where kurt was brash and arrogant, then calmed a bit, kyle was the same and never let up - on the throttle nor on the attitude.

and off-track, from what i've seen, read, and heard, kyle is actually a great guy. young and immature at times maybe, but by all accounts, he is giving of his time, energy, and money to various worthy causes. but most importantly, i like him because he is a racer. when qualifying, the nationwide race, and the cup race were delayed until sunday at richmond four weeks ago, the first thing he did was get on the phone to find out about getting to a late model race his team (kyle busch motorsports) was going to be in on saturday. only after speaking with jd gibbs did he decide that maybe he better stick around and focus on the upcoming cup race. my money says he still snuck out and raced somewhere under another name, but i can't prove it.

i love the fact that from the time he straps on the helmet till hours after the race he turns into one of the fiercest competitors there has been in a long time. more importantly, he has never let me down. he may not always say or do the right things, and he will probably never win "most popular driver," he has always been himself, no matter how immature or "socially incorrect" that may be. when he wins he's truly happy and is magnanimous in his spreading the credit, and when he loses, crashes out, or blows up, he lets the world know what he's feeling. there is no need to second guess or interpret what he's thinking or feeling - he gives it to you straight out, or heads directly to his trailer, also letting you know exactly how he feels. fault him for it if you like, but what you see is what you get, and i like that.
  • Off track personality. Obviously I root for the two drivers that dont win much (Jamie McMurray and Bobby LaBonte), but they seem to be great guys off the track, and just class acts and dont blame people.
  • a little of both
  • I picked my driver because
    1) I use to drink Bud
    2) My x liked someone else.
I'm hard headed and will stick with something so I just stuck with him.
  • To tell you the truth, I started to like Junior becasue of the color of his car. Red. My favorite color.

Over the years I came to like him for his personality, and for is respect for the sport.
  • Both. I started watching Junior when he was just a little squirt since of course I have been a Dale Earnhardt fan all my life. So I knew Junior before he ever started racing and watched him grow up and then during his first 2 full years of racing in the Bush (Nationwide) Series and he won back to back Championships and that excitement and his modest personality set me up to be a Junior fan for life. I am not a bandwagon jumper nor am I a fan just because of who his dad was. He earned my respect when he was just a young guy and I am a very loyal fan.
  • Love his driving. Love his personality. Hope he never changes either one of them.
  • I was a fan of ironhead and when he died I stayed with his boy.........RIP Dale Sr.
  • It had a lot to do with his record, but his off-track personality counts too.
  • LMAO, Do I really need to answer this?
  • I initially went with my driver, Kasey, because of his skill, that and at the time he was a rookie (I always pick a rookie to root for every season) but then as I got to know his off-track personality, that strengthened my choice in him, not to mention I really look good in his merchandise. lol

I’d say for me it’s about 60% personality, 40% ability because no matter what driver you choose, they’re always going to have a bad day/race.
  • he won the first race i ever watched..i think i was like 14...Go Jimmie Go!! <348
  • Both but there is probably a little more emphasis on the on track skills and the way Jimmie manages races. He is not only a great driver but a great tactician as well. He usually does just enough to give himself a chance to contend for the win in the majority of races he's in. That could mean sandbagging a little and saving your car for the end or running real hard, ahead of the wrecks all day. Of course he has a lot of extra confidence with Chad on top of his pitbox. He is a laid back California kid at heart and a lot more fun in real life than the corporate robot that he appears to be at times.
    3 STR8 N 08!!!
  • I like Kurt for both. He has matured immensely over the past couple of years. He is going to bounce back.
  • I like Elliott because he is cool off track. No way would I be a fan if I looked at his record. lol
  • Once upon a time (lol), I liked almost all of the drivers. Two of my older brothers were huge Intimidator fans. They thought that he did no wrong. Being a good little sister - doing what little sisters do - I loved harassing them about their "dirty, cheating, stupid, etc. favorite driver".
One day, my brothers cried foul. They insisted that I pick just one driver as my favorite, so that they could bug me about him. I thought about it long and hard. I considered everything: talent, personality, style, and yes, even his good looks. I chose Terry Labonte over all of the rest.
My choice has proved to be a good one. Best of all, my brothers could never find any fault with him, either. : )
  • Both, actually. I started liking Matt Kenseth when I felt he was getting the least disrespect of anyone who'd ever competed for the championship back in 2003. His personality is a lot like mine too, though.
  • loved Kyle Busch's seriously competitive nature on the track, I like to root for someone who always remains competitive. The attitude off the track is a big controversy that I feel has been blown out of proportion a bit, mostly after the Richmond incident with Dale Jr., where they both were at fault, just as they both admitted. also my boyfriend said that kyle looked like an alien, so I said "oh yeah? i happen to like alien-lookin guys" so it's been on since then. LMAO
  • I had "favorites" from all the teams. Still do. But I watched Rowdy while he was at Hendrick and he was my favorite of all over there because he was so good for such a young guy. BP and DW kept saying "watch him make this maneuver" and "keep your eye on him coming through the pack" etc.....and so I did and he became the top favorite to watch. Personality and skill. it's been a lot of fun and a lot of heartache but he is still my main guy.
  • Well I picked mine when my other favorite retired and it was his first race and I saw him in Busch and liked him .
  • I picked Sadler for his funny good ol' boy image (and if I'm completely honest, his looks, at least before he whacked all his hair off), and Mark Martin for his character and driving skills.
  • Both. I think they need to be decent people on and off the track and also be talented drivers. However I do like some of the drivers who never win or have top 20 finishes, because I like their personalities.
  • I think i have a reason of the roush success ?

Would any other driver pull that move carl edwards did?

    May be...

    email italy
  • I don't thinks so. It was a good move. Maybe if he had some extra reinforcement in the right side of the cars so that the tires would not make contact with the wall then he might could have made it.
  • It was a cool move and people would have been talking about it forever if he could have made it stick. So much for the Chasers not taking risks.
  • If you watched his post race interview Carl said that he did this playing video games and ran on the wall and won...so he thought he would try it because he had no other way of winning. Gutsy move for sure and he almost pulled it off. What a finish...Wow.
  • No. Most don't have a car that can erase a one second lead and catch Jimmie Johnson. Carl had too much momentum to hold the car on the track, but no other driver could have even gotten there.
  • I dont know if that many people would have attempted it. Knowing that they would hit the wall! It would have been great if it would have stuck and he could have kept going!
  • People do it all the time....Checkers or Wreckers baby!
  • actually, somebody did make a similarly gutsy move earlier this year and pulled it off. it wasn't a slide job but it was a balls-to-the-wall move on the outside of johnson that propelled busch around him and to the win at chicagoland. he has also made similar moves in the past - usually to the outside - in truck races, often ending up with results similar to carl's, but sometimes pulling it off.
  • When he ever said that move works on videogames, I swear I almost lost it completely!!!

LMAO....Umm..Carl? I can take 35 rounds of ammo in the chest in my video game, doesn't mean it works that way in real life..
Never been an Edwards fan, so as much as I hate to admit this, that was pretty freakin' cool..
(not that he hit the wall, but that he'd even try it in the first place)
  • i don't think carl even would have if it was a different track or a different situation..
  • I don't like Carl, but he has ba**z like Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart.

All 3 are similar to the intimidator. Jr fans could only wish Jr created that kind of excitement. That made a boring race not quite as boring
  • kyle would actually most drivers would make the move or they would bump him out of the way
  • I think maybe Kyle Busch would've done it.I don't know, though.carl is a clean driver and did that to keep from pulling the slide move and running up the race track into Jimmie.Nah,Kyle probably would have just wrecked Jimmie and himself. But I DO think that Kyle has that kind of passion to win,if that's what you mean.
  • Only about 42 others if they thought it was their only prayer to win. In cup, winning isn't simply the most important thing, it's the only thing.
  • i don't no what he was thinking
  • No... Stewart would have.... no wait... Stewart would have tried to "tap" the other guy out completely.

    GOOOOOOOOOO J Gordon!!
  • He knew he was going to hit the wall but it was all he could do to pass him and he went for it that's something only the intimidator would of tried dont you think?
  • Carl Edwards is one of the classiest drivers ever to drive in NASCAR. It was awesome what he tried and he almost pulled it off. Then after the race he went immediately to talk to Jimmie Johnson and apologize for coming too close. Just shows who was responsible in the Edwards/ Ky Busch disputes! I wanna see some back flips in the last races. Go Carl!!!
  • Restrictor plates, love 'em or leave 'em?

    May be...

unlocked and ready gsm cell phones
  • Hate 'em and with a passion. Lamest races of the year by far.
  • part of me says keep em for safety reasons, but part of me says let them ponies run...
  • It would be interesting to see the cars over 200 mph. However, the truth is they race closer with them ( especially with the COT car) and only the veteran drivers would have an advantage since the've driven without them at the super speedways.
  • I used to hate them.
However, they are the only tracks where the COT has improved racing, so I have learned to love them!
  • LOVE EM!!!!!
It's where Jr. and Gordon rock!!!
They are the cream that rises to the top when we go to 'Dega or 'Tona
  • Restrictor plate racing is not true racing so leave them. It's only exciting for the fans. If there was not restrictor plate racing Dale Sr would still be with us.
  • I like them but many times feel their races are to long. maybe cut their races in half, give the drivers a break in there.. seems like in the middle one race they all just ride. if you cut that part out. I LOVE them. otherwise i HATE them..
  • Love 'em!
  • I say leave them now that we have the COT. I think it is safe enough to run faster. I realize they were needed before now, but think the drivers would be safe without them now. Maybe even safe considering the field wouldn't have to run in big packs.
  • I love 'dega bring it on Dale Jr and Jeff Gordon should have a great race..and one of them will be in Victory lane.. Dale Jr will win on the 5th its my birthday....go win it Dale Jr..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • they cant run wihout them they would go airborn
thats alot of power with that high of gear
  • Love 'em or leave 'em, you better gain way, you better hit bullseye this kid don't play... oh, what were we talking about? Restrictor plates? They're better than our favorite drivers dying, that's for sure.
  • love em

there awesome they always go down to the last second
  • i like the race at the plate tracks. it really keeps the racing close. they are there for safety reason for drivers and fans. so they are what they are. but would like to see the cup cars run over 200.
  • I'm 50/50!

On one hand our team has a lot of success there.

On the other hand, it can tear up a lot of equipment real fast and that is a lot of time in the shop.
  • Luv em! Makes for an interesting race!
  • I don't like them but, Elliott, seems to do well at R.P. races so, for now, they can stay.
  • I like the races, but i think I could do with out them. So I would say leave 'em.
  • I'm a simple girl, I'll take any kind of track they put out there..
    Love em'
  • Love em.
  • Love 'em!!! I can't wait for Talladega this weekend! Too bad I'm probably going to be out of town and miss it :(
  • I say get rid of them, but I can understand that they make racing at the superspeedways safer for the fans and the drivers.
  • I like them! It would be hard not to like them, they are so exciting! This next wk should be great, can hardly wait!
  • My choice would be leave them. It is like the chase in a way. Something needed to get done but at what sacrifice? Both with and without have their pros and cons.
  • leave'em, leave'em,and ummmmmmmm oh ya leave'me
  • LEAVE 'em!

I have too many reasons that I dislike them to list here. Get RID of them and bring back the REAL competition!

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOO J Gordon!
  • i do not like restirictor plates
  • leave them for speed..love them for safety. Hard to say.
  • I absolutely love plate races. They are so exciting and so fun to watch.
  • Hate 'em but understand them as being necessary. I wish they would just make the engines smaller, change the car body shape back to the older cars, keep the COT wing and chassis, and then remove the restrictor plates.
  • love'em
