Will HMS replace Mark Martin if it becomes mathematically impossible for him to make the chase?

May be...

  • You don't just kick Mark Martin out of his ride and replace him with somebody else. He's Mark Martin!!! You just don't do that to a veteran driver like Mark. He will race the entire season. Brad Keselowski will get time on the track in the #25 and #09 cars.
  • no i expect mark to drive the 5 car next year
  • I'm a big Mark Martin fan! I think he is the best driver to have never won a championship. He stated at the end of the 08 season that he was going to give the championship one more try.
He's 18th in points, 93 points back of 12th . It's early yet and I sure hope he makes it! But if the Chase gets out of his reach do you look for him to be replaced with whoever is going to drive the five car in 2010? Brad Keselowski for an example.
  • nope
  • Mark has a contract.. If that happened nobody would ever drive for Hendrick again..
And unless he wins the title this year, you can expect to see Mark back for 2010..
You'd probably see him back next year, even if he does win the title..
  • I think they'd only replace him if he wanted out. Hendrick's happy to have Mark in his car, chase or no.
But no worries; Mark's going to make the chase. He moved up 9 spots this week. : )
  • I doubt it. Mark is a good driver. The reason he is behind in points is because of equipment failure ... not driver's fault.
  • Doesn't Mark's contract run thru 2010? Yep, I think so. I don't see him being replaced until he decides to quit...again!

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • No, Mark will race the entire championship, regardless of if he is in the chase or not. Mark is a legend and i hope he does win this year.
  • If this does happen, HMS is violating to contract, which may involve some lawsuits..
  • no way! i think mark will be in the top 10-12 soon. give him 4 races and he will be in 9th or 10th.mark and brad k are going to share the #5 in 2010.
  • No, I don't think there is any way possible that he doesn't run that car fulltime in 2010, and this year ofcourse. He has been one of the fastest cars week in, and week out.. They just don't have the finishes to show for it. It's hard for a driver when you have blown motors, blown tires, etc etc.. Bad luck is a hard thing to overcome, but they are doing it. It will be a long, hard run to make the CHASE, but if there is anyone I'd want to drive my car from behind, he'd be in the top 3.
  • That makes no sense. No.
  • I highly doubt that
  • mark martin sing full time 09 for hms
    and part time in 2010
  • No they won't.

  • Hendrick will be scratching his head when Martin finishes better than E. Jr. at the end of this season. I'd replace 88 driver.
  • no they will not they will keep him in i dont think they will make the same mistake joe gibbs made if they think keselowsk is ready he will run the limited schedule in 2010
  • No i would expect mark to be right back their next year in that 5 but if not they should bring their development driver into the number 5.
  • They would never do that because they want him to get as much seat time as possible in the COT before next season.
  • don't count him out anything is possible if he could win a race or two hell have a chance at it or at least stay in the top 5 nobody can replace Mark Martin.
  • As a Martin fan myself, I can recall a few years, I think it was 2005, where Mark looked like he might miss the chase, but he put together 6 top 10 finishes and 4 top 5's in 8 races to secure a spot, so I expect no less from him this year. He'll make it. Winning the Cup, on the other hand, now that's a horse of a different color.
  • No, I don't think so. In fact, I believe Mark might even race full-time in 2010. I'm sure winning the championship would be great for him, but I think the main reason why he came back full-time was because he is still competitive.
  • Rick would never pull the rug out from Mark's feet regardless of where he is in the standings, not this year anyway! I really feel that Mark WILL make the chase. He has been fast at all the races so far but 2 blown engines and a cut tire have not allowed him to get the finishes he should have. He's the 2nd best driver to never win a championship in my opinion. Junior Johnson was a much better driver than most will ever know. He never ran a full schedule and thus never had a real shot at winning the championship but his 50 wins in 313 races places him 7th on the all time winning percentage list. Junior's 50 cup series wins also has him tied for 10th, with Ned Jarrett, on the all time wins list.
