Juan pablo montoya screwed?

May be...

  • so stupid, he should have won no matter WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
  • I do agree JPM should have stayed in F1. It is the pinnacle of motorsport. BUT I am glad he came to Nascar so we can see a great talent race over here in our series. I do think, and it's simply a gut feeling, that Nascar got it wrong but I certainly don't think Nascar was trying to rob JPM. I don't believe in conspiracy theories as a general rule. I don't think the head Nascar people got together and said, No, we don't want Juan winning. Juan winning is a better story than Hendrick and JJ winning again.
  • It happens! Drivers with the car to beat all day lose the race sometimes. That's why it's called racing. That's why you have to make it to the end of 160 laps, and not 140. Dozens of guys have lost races by making their own competition by beating themselves. The scoring computers said Juan was over the speed limit, including the 5 mph grace period, and NASCAR took the approriate action. Yeah, it sucks for him, but that's racing. It happens! Get over it, and move on to next week. The guy with the best car is not always the guy that wins, that's how racing works.
  • so you think Nascar timed Juan too fast on pit road because he's hispanic? Now you sound like Chica. I agree that Juan Pablo deserved to win, but he isn't the first Nascar driver to lose a race because of a speeding penalty and he won't be the last. C'mon! Wouldn't he have been the feel good winner today, running the same paint scheme as he did when he won as a rookie at the Indy 500? Certainly a PR winner for Nascar as well. I was cheering for him and I felt bad about the penalty, buuutttt...I don't think it was the white majority conspiring to keep a minority from winning.
  • It sucks for Montoya--I feel sick for him--but those speeds are gauged electronically. I don't think it's some vast conspiracy. If anything, NASCAR would like to see a Montoya win. It would bring in a whole new untapped Hispanic market.

That was a pretty smug comment by Jimmie--I thought he had more class than that.

I didn't hear the racist comments, so can't offer an opinion on those.
  • Total BS, he was screwed big time. Nascar you are really pissing me off big time..

    Go Dale Jr
  • i would get a lawyer and file suit against the nascar computer that didn't want a hispanic to win. the race card is getting old.
  • montoya is overrated and no he is not one of the best open wheel drivers in the world, he only won one race in open wheel, but yes he should go back there. They always talk about how talented he is but before today he has only led 57 laps in his NASCAR career in 3 1/2 years. You probably think Dale Jr is the best too, his stats are about the same since JPM has been driving. Jimmie Johnson has gotten penalized 3 times this year for speeding on pit road when he was leading a race, are you trying so say Jimmie Johnson is hispanic? Him getting penalized has nothing to do with his nationality, so stop whining. If anything they talk about how talented he is even though he isn't because he is hispanic, because everyone is suppose to kiss the hispanics butt so you don't hurt their precious little feelings.
  • He is not the first driver to get caught speeding through pit road and deny doing so. You don't have to make it a racial issue. I've read your quotes above by Jimmie and Tony, and I can't quite figure out how they put him down?! They stated the facts. "He did a great job, he had the car, I hate it for him, he lead a lot of laps and he didn't win".....how is that putting anybody down? I agree the truth hurts sometimes, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a put down.

For the record, I took Juan in my fantasy racing league. I don't want anybody accusing me of being a hater. He had the car, he was FLYING! The best driver/car of the race does not usually win. We see it almost every week.
  • he got screwwd cause he's and open wheeler not cause he is hispanic

they would love a hispanic to win

they dont want any open wheelers to win
  • I don't think NASCAR is racist. They could have called a caution for several cars being stuck on the track at Infineon with 2 to go in 2007 and they chose to let the race finish. But I know how you feel. At first I thought NASCAR was trying to let Mark win, but I've calmed myself down, and you should do the same.

Don't worry, he's going to have several more strong runs. And don't miss Indy next year.
  • The computer said that he was speeding. Its not like there is one person in a back room that tells everyone someone is speeding. There are quite a few people who monitor the computers looking for speeders. Dont get me wrong I would have loved to see Juan win, but I dont think NASCAR is racist.
  • Computers don't make mistakes. Drivers trying to push the limit make mistakes.

To suggest that this was planned by NASCAR to keep a latino from winning is beyond ignorance.
  • I think it was total BS...and I'm far from a Juan Pablo fan.
  • Yeah, sure the timing loops are bigoted against hispanics.

He was speeding, end of story.

He is ready to move on, did anyone see the interview with him?

Yes, he's pissed, but he is over it.
  • Montoya (unfortunately) screwed himself
  • Was Juan pablo montoya screwed at the brickyard?? I Belive so! nascar gave driver Juan pablo montoya a penalty for speeding on pit lane.To me it seems that nascar nation is not going to aloud a hispanic to win,Juan should of had stuck to formula 1,he is one of the best openwheel drivers in the world.

    some quotes from the race.

    Jimmi Johnson
"I do know I have the trophy," he offered. "I hate it for him. I know it is a story, Juan led so many laps, but when we come back and look at it two months from now the stat sheet is going to have a 'W' next to my name. That's all that matters."

    tony steward
"He never really was challenged all day," Stewart said. "He did a great job. I know what he's feeling like -- he's got to be sick inside. He had the car, he had the talent to do it, he just made a mistake and it cost him."

sad how they put him down...

this is the worse "home cooking" in nascar i have ever seen!!!
nascar will do anything to let one of these boys win, including cheating out montoya how sad,in my mind he did win

this is so sad,but its reality and its going to continue to happen in sports
the same thing happend to ricky rubio who was bought out of the nba all stat dunk contest and ontop of that the anouncer kenny, said some very racist things about him.
  • He was speeding and he was penalized for it. He got the same penalty as anyone else caught speeding.

Jimmie Johnson has gotten the same penalty. So has Tony Stewart.
  • i like montoya but i don't think he was screwed. nascar apparently caught him speeding in two different sections of the track during his pit stop. why would nascar not want montoya to win? the best way to ensure viewership increases (particularly among hispanics) is for him to win. nascar is a corporation and is more interested in the dollar than anything else. plenty of drivers have led the most laps and not won the race. there isn't a conspiracy in every action or facet. jimmy johnson is a california dude. if nascar was wanting one of it's tobacco chewing, slow talking southerners to win, then the races would be slanted (no offense to asians) towards elliott sadler every week. should juan have won...probably but he didn't. everything isn't racism. i see white people eat with forks everyday and they have chopsticks sitting right in front of them. i don't get offended. he's still in the top 12 and looking good for the chase.
  • Nascar is a joke. They did not want the 42 car to win nor did they want the owner to win. Nascar is more fixed than WWE. what a hose job.
  • I like Juan. When the announcer said he was speeding, I yelled BS!! That was total fabrication. The last thing he would do is speed on pit road. These guys arent idiots.

Ive been a fan for 16 years, and I dont know if Im gonna watch anymore. After screwing over Jeremy Mayfield, Its clear theyre gotdamn bullies.

Jeremy's innocent, and so is Juan.
  • well humans run computers and sometimes mistakes happen..
    yes i believe he was
  • The computer said he was speeding, so he was penalized.
  • Nascar wanted Montoya to win. Just as bad as they want the 88 to win. I think it was Nascar that begged Montoya to come over to Nascar, to begin with.
The hispanic part has nothing to do with it. Their money spends just like anyone else's.
  • I would like to give JPM the benefit of the doubt. I reviewed his comments acouple of times. He seems to think he was in the green and not speeding. JPM, crew chief, and car owner need to have a talk with NASCAR. Someone's equipment is wrong but who's? They need to address this. If it happened to JPM, then it could happen to someone else.

Something doesn't make sense. If you had sped through pit row once, why would you do it twice? JPM doesn't seem like the person to push his luck twice in a situation like that.

Can't comment on the racist remarks...... I missed that totally. If it's true, then somebody needs to make an apology.
  • He was speeding on pit road and he had a penalty...that's just how it goes....it is not some nascar scheme or anything so just calm down... He just had some bad luck thats all...
  • He's not the only person who has ever been penalized for speeding down pit road so how could he have been cheated by NASCAR? Is it because everybody but white people can scream discrimination every time something goes wrong in life? He was speeding.
  • They were allowed to go 60 mph on pit road. They clocked him going 60.11. Absolutely BS. They definitely screwed him.
  • Give me a break! Juan was speeding! NASCAR is not going to purposely screw Juan out of a chance to win just for the hell of it. I think NASCAR would have liked to see Juan win because Juan brings in a whole new fan base that NASCAR wants. And if NASCAR was truly biased against Juan they would make sure the sports most popular driver would win and be in the chase! Of course that would be Jr. And guess were Jr. is at in points. 21st or 22nd in points I believe.uha decompressor
