Wing tips, and he refused to wear gloves..
He didn't really have to refuse, because there was no requirement..
Gloves were the one piece of equipment the drivers all used even before they were flame proofed, or required..
BTW: The reason he wore the wing tips was to protect his feet from the hot floor board of the car, modern drivers use heat resistant heel pads..

I don't know about his uniform. but he did wear wing tipped shoes.
