What's happening at Petty Enterprises?

May be...

  • They are in Financial trouble--They are working on a Joint Partnership deal with Andrew Murstein--A Business owner of Medallion Financial and a Billionaire to try to infuse the Money into Petty--Kyle is on the verge of Retiring pretty soon--General Mills has Pulled the Sponsorship over to RCR for 2009 and Yes It is Quite a Mess and a Shame--They should be able to field a Competitive car seeing as How Penske is doing pretty well with Newmans Dodge!!!!!!
  • I would really like to see petty enterprise win a race. I think they would be in good shape next year if they stuck Chad Mccumbee in the 45 car and, if bobby labonte leaves, they could stick a young driver ,maybe my favorite driver Reed Sorenson, in the 43 car. But, Reed would again be a senior member on a young team so I dont know how that would work out. Kyle Petty just doesn't want to stop racing but he has to learn that there comes a time when he should. Maybe he can split time w/ Chad Mcumbee next year in the 45 car like Mark Martin has been doing.
  • The unfortunate thing with this it is not just Petty. It also includes the Wood Brothers. Two of the oldest most trusted teams in NASCAR are falling on hard times, and not of their own making.
When NASCAR grew as fast as it did the "Wall Street" investors looked for new blood and new talent. The Jeff Gordon's,Tony Stewart's,Matt Kenneth's,even Jimmie J,and Kasey Kahane were cast into the public eye and with that the older teams were not as appealing to the investors.
The owners could sign 3 or 4 sponsors for one car because the Wall Street investors were telling them to.Which left the backbone of the sport(Petty,Woods,Yates,Donlevy....) with out sponsorship.teams that have fielded champions teams that have won hundreds of races combined, teams that help establish the sport. They lost to smoke filled boardrooms with deep pockets, glamor shots productions, and management that steps on the little man but pads the big man.
Petty is ,and will always be,an icon in NASCAR.It's a ashame that greed is costing the family teams so severly.
  • The Petty family moved Petty Enterprises.

There is talk of a "merger", but I think Richard just wants out.

  • They need to get something going here in a hurry, with the threat of losing Bobby Labonte they are in big trouble.
  • Papabill nailed it. NASCAR has strayed far from it's roots as the sport of the working people. Might as well watch Indy cars the way things are going :^(
  • Yesterday at the race, there was mention that Petty Enterprises was in trouble. Has anyone heard if they will continue next year? I assume they will since they were moving their operation to Charlotte. It's a shame they can't build a car that can compete anymore.
  • I think the frustration of non-performance is setting in on them.
  • Petty Enterprises is indeed in a fight for its existence. They currently occupy Robert Yates' old shop in Mooresville, NC. If they can secure sponsorship for next year, they might make it, but they would need a good driver in the seat, and that's one car that not many people want to drive right now. Rebuilding a race team takes time. Let's give them a few months and see where they are at.
