Who else is sick of open wheel drivers in Nascar?

May be...

  • But I like Smoke!
  • isnt tony stewart an exception to? alot of great nascar drivers came from open wheel aj foyt is another it brings more fans to the sport all though i disagree with david stremme losing his ride to dario franchiti but if its the only way they could get sponsors you gotta do what you gotta to do.
  • I'm not, but they really need to have some experience in the lower series first, like Red Bull is doing with Scott Speed.

You cant shove a race car driver from F1, IRL, or CART into a car like the COT with 42 other people and expect him to do it good right off the bat, it doesn't work that way.

Maybe Ganassi figured that out with this whole Franchitti mess.
  • The thing I hate about it is that the guys dreaming to be Nascar drivers lose their rides for a fling in the Cup Series by an Indy Car or F1 driver.
  • Yeah, I'm tired of the good drivers going from real road courses to the oval circuits. Of course Watkins Glen is always a good race, especially back when Terry Labante was driving.
  • I hope that the NASCAR owners get the clue that these guys aren't good stock car drivers right out of the box. With Montoya being an exception, how many times are we going to see an open wheel guy bring out a caution in a crucial part of a race like yesterday or wrecking themselves like Pocono? How many times did Hornish run in to Carpentier? You guys should have stayed where you were and quit polluting Cup w/ your "potential". Owners need to look through their feeder organizations. That's what they're there for, right?
  • It is not that I am sick of the open wheel drivers in Nascar, but I do not think they should not be thrown right into the Cup Series without first getting some time under the belts in the Nationwide series. Just becuase they can kick butt while driving open wheel, does not mean they are going to know what they are doing with a stock car. It amazes me that for the most part, they are being thrown right in. They should at least run a full season with the Nationwide series or lower before even making there first start at the Cup level.
  • Well, seeing as how almost every driver out there started their racing careers in go-carts, wouldn't they all have been open-wheel drivers at one point?

I'm tired of the discrimination. If someone wants to give it a try, have at it. If they aren't talented enough, they won't be around long. But everyone wrecks, even the best drivers out there.
  • I disagree. Montoya can drive with any of these guys if he was in good equipment. Hornish seems to be improving exponentially lately. He couldnt even make races 6 months ago. Franchitti is just in god awful equipment. Look at what his experienced replacements did in that car recently. Speed is doing awesome and will probably be winning races at the cup level within a few years.
