Chrysler, and now GM on the ropes...what will become of NASCAR?

May be...

  • NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO NASCAR!!!

    GET LOST, LOSER TROLL!!!!
  • There is nowhere near the amount of pressure on the manufacturers like in the old days. I think NASCAR will be okay. There may be a reduced participation for the manufacturers, but I do not see a complete pull out.

    GO 24!!!!
  • nascar will go on with either foreign manufactures or just by car owners like the cars do really come off the manufacturing line they are built by the teams so instead of chevy it might be called just a hendrick but i dont think gm will die there are Too many jobs on the line an the economy wont recover
  • Chrysler will come back as something very different, and GM is now on the brink of Chap 11(http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090510/ap_o...

Looks like the cars fields are either gonna start getting very thin, or a big drop off in quality/factory sponsorship & rides.

This ain't good at all, really.
  • There's enough aftermarket Chevy parts that Chevy teams can still operate while Chevy goes through their restructuring. To be honest I am glad Chevy is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. By doing so they will get rid of these gas guzzling cars that have been draining my pockets and come out with cars that doesn't rely on Iraq's gas.

I feel like Chevy will remain but what you'll see is a lot more environmentally friendly cars like hydrogen and electric cars. See Chevy is going to be coming out with the Chevy Volt in 2010. They have to come out with an environmental friendly car to compete with Toyota because Toyota is coming out with a Hydrogen car in 2015,.

Gas cars which burn fossil fuels will be a thing of the past before long. I think people will still race but gas burning cars will not be part of Chevy's plan for the future.

All this restructuring is is Chevy needs to change their facilities from facilities that produced gas burning cars to facilities that produce electric and hydrogen cars. What chapter 11 bankruptcy is is just another way to get tax payer's money to help make the transition.

The race car bodies are not Chevy's. The bodies are custom made cars. Has nothing to do with Chevy. The engine block is the only thing that is Chevy from what I understand. All other parts are made by aftermarket parts suppliers or either made within the shop (example Hendricks shop makes a lot of their own parts.).
  • keep rolling
  • You don,t need to worry...It may be nascar but there is nothing stock about the cars any more..The car makers are not pressured like the old days to make a car to compete in the race....Like the chargers that chrysler are running are 2 doors...They do not even make 2 doors....
  • NASCAR will go on the ropes too.
but i'm sure they'll both be ropeless in a couple years
a little rope burn aint gonna kill ya
  • The manufacturers generally only license the Ford, GM, Dodge name.

The cars are hardly "stock" anymore.

It's not like the teams go to the factory and drive out a few cars on the way to the track.

So I think there will be little to no impact on NASCAR.
  • It's a toss up. Maybe nothing will change, Maybe the sport has dramatic changes and shakes it up so much they lose fans. Or heck, They could gain fans (I would bet on losing)

My guess is one manufacturer will stand strong. Maybe they all run Yotas in 2012?
  • Whatever type of bankrupcy protection the automakers need to go through, I think that there will be some sort of allowance for continued participation in NASCAR, but maybe at a slightly reduced level. Regardless of whether critics think that taking out NASCAR is an easy way to save the automakers money, you have to look at the economic impact of each race. I don't have exact numbers, but I heard just one race can generate hundreds of millions of dollars between track employees, hotels, merchandise, gas, etc.halo tournement
