Why does NASCAR have a drug testing program?

May be...

  • To try to keep this sport clean. Baseball's gone, so is football to drugs.
  • I don't think steroids can make you drive a car faster
  • To keep them from using drugs. Racing is about endurance and some steroids can greatly improve that.

Also drivers like Arron Fike that actually raced while having who knows what in his system. I wouldn't want to drive next to him in a golf cart so putting him in a car doing 200 mph would be much more dangerous.
  • Endurance is the main reason steroids are banned in Nascar. Racing takes an incredible amount of endurance.

In baseball it's for strength to whack homeruns since there sitting on a bench 50% of the game.
  • Performance enhancing drugs can give you a substantial advantage in any sport. So to answer the question why, they can alter your judgement, or contribute to a decision that could potentially hurt someone plus they don't want anyone having a distintive advantage over everyone. A lot of it has to do with safety believe it or not.
  • Think of it this way... If you were driving next to someone who was high on any kind of substance, would you want him next to you going 180 mph into a 33 degree banked turn at 3 g's? I wouldn't.
  • Would you want someone high on unknown drugs racing beside you at 180+ miles per hour. I know I wouldn't. That's why they have drug testing in NASCAR.

    GO 24!!!!
  • They actually put the steroids in the car and the driver tests positive from breathing the fumes.
  • Because there are too many lives at stake. From the crew members to the officials and drivers themselves the risk for injury or death is too big to be lackadaisical when it comes to scrutinizing what the drivers and people involved with the cars have in their systems. If one life is spared because of this policy it is an enormous success!
    Jonah's FINE N 09!!!!
  • If I remember correctly it's because a number of the drivers were in favor of drug testing simply for their own safety. I guess there were some drivers that probably knew there were some other drivers (as well as pit crew members etc..) that were under the influence of drugs so they became concerned and NASCAR came up with the drug testing policy.

I think what may have gotten drivers concerened was Craftsman Truck driver Aaron Fike was suspended from NASCAR after being arrested for possession of heroin

  • It is for other drugs as well. They do not want some one going 200mph high as a kit.
  • Looking at most of those guys, it's obvious they're not on steroids. NASCAR is looking for, er, recreational substances.
  • It may help them get better eye sight to maneuver through the track. Its not for natural strenght becuase it how fast a car can go depends on the car.650 palm tero
