Do you believe the fines for Carl Edwards?

They seem excessive. NASCAR wants to punish teams with violations severely so they won't do it again. Edwards was 42nd last week and I wonder if Osborne had been there if things would have been different. Edwards went from first to out of the top twelve in one race. Roush has attached a wire to make sure that the oil lid will stay on if the fastener fails again. The car had it on at the start of the race and it came off. Otherwise Edwards would have passed out from the fumes. Roush is not appealing because NASCAR rarely reverses decisions. A deliberate violation by anyone later in the year would have to be more severe and they may get into suspending a driver for a number of races because of the harsh penalties on Edwards for a minor, race caused infraction.

I wish they would have fined the team more. They would have deserved it.

Yes I do , they penalized other teams at Daytona & they got caught in pre- race inspections , Carl got caught in post- race inspections . They should have taken the win away, not just points& $$$. Maybe they will start putting lockwashers on those bolts ,they cost a lot less.

Yes I do and in my opinion its what the team deserves.
If u fail pre or post race inspection no matter who u r, there will be consequences.
The big one was the 10 bonus points that was takin away if Carl Should make the chase.

His team cheated so he has to pay the price for it, they knew they cheated. That's how life is . They have to be strict about it because if they aren't everyone would be cheating.

I think they all push limits as far as they can, and sometimes they get caught. The punishment fit the 'crime'.

Yeah i cant believe it...if you pass pre-race inspection..especially knowing that it was on the car then...why would they fine him for losing it during the race...i dont get it

from a week ago? he got caught CHEATING. 100 LBS of downforce was created. he got LUCKY that nascar dont strip wins like they should


nascar should go to u get caught with a bad part or whatever sit the driver rule. if they can park harvick for what he did in a truck race for a cup race grow some balls and park the driver for his team cheating

Yes, I do. they got caught.Nascar is just not going to put up with anything any longer..You cheat, they'll sock you ya. If stuff like this keeps up they'll start hitting them with more than 100 pts as thats the part that really hurts the most.

Yes, NASCAR has set a precinct with the COT and that is they don't want you to mess with the car. NASCAR has been pretty much consistent with COT violaters. The violation in all cases last year and for Carl Edwards was 100 points docked, 100 owner points docked, crew chief suspension for 6 weeks and 100,000 fine. The only difference between Carl's penalty and the cars that got penalized last year is that those cars did not win the race, but Carl did and so he will not be credited with the addtional 10 bonus points if he qualifies for the Chase.

Theres nothing to not believe i dont even think Edwards id fighting the fines, i have never heard of Nascar lying on a pre race or post race car check

They got off easy. Evidence of missing window clips have surfaced since the fine was imposed. That is why it will not be appealed. the board could take away the win and the 195 points awarded which is what should have been done.

I agree that the penalty seems way too severe.

Yes he cheated, the team and owner and driver all knew that they cheated that's why they won't appeal.

Clearly you're a Carl Edwards fan and you're looking for someone to validate your opinion that the fines and suspension of crew chief Bob Osborne was wrong. I'm not going to be that person for you.

NASCAR caught the team in post-race inspection with an illegality. Intent-which some people argue-is irrelvant. It is against NASCAR rules. Roush Fenway Racing and the #99 team were fined, docked points and penalized with the loss of Osborne and to me the fines were perfectly legitimate. If you do something illegal and you get caught, you should be punished for it. I realize this won't make Edwards' fans here happy, and by the way, I am neither for or against Carl Edwards or any other driver. I am for good clean exciting racing and fair play by everyone.

They are consistent with all the COT fines/penalties so far. What could possibly be wrong with them?? They cheated and they got caught so they got penalized.

As to passing pre-race and then being OK, that would just be an open gate to altering the car after pre-race inspection and cheating would be rampant!

Of course I do, why would the fines lie. All kidding aside, he may of got off a little easy in light of the fact that it is looking more and more that it was intentional. Roush/Fenway is not appealing the penalties so that tends to suggest that they know they got caught this time. I'm not throwing stones (I'm an HMS fan) and don't think less of the 99 team, they ALL do it from time to time. If he hadn't raced the car the fines would have been in line with other COT infractions but his "alteration" got used during the race in which he won. NASCAR needs to strip the win and points if they want to discourage this from happening in the future. Just my opinion.

It's BS because they can't even tell when the oil cap fell off...hell for all they know it could have fallen off during his burnout, or on the trip to victory lane. He got penalized WAY to much for the situation.
