Did any of you actuall think that JR's crew chief made this much difference?

May be...

  • TBone you can hate all you want to but as a Jr. fan I will stick with him. I suppose you are a fair-weather fan.
Jr. may not win many races this year with a new crew chief but by god I will not give up on him.
Contrary to popluar opinion Jr. can drive a race car.
TBone hate to tell you but I am NOT watching Fox, I still stand with what I said.
You must be a Baby Bush fan.
  • Yes, I think it made a huge difference and we will see a different Dale Jr. in the coming races.
  • He's 219 points or so out of 12th...He's not making the chase, there are too many better drivers ahead of him that will fight for it.

Jr. drove no better today than any other week. It's just that his crew chief was a lot smarter than Eury Jr. and knew that when Jr. was in 30th spot early in the race (like he was a lot with Eury Jr.) that if they pitted and only took two tires he could gain a lot of spots. Well, that's what they did, and it was a smart call. Once Jr. was up in the top 10 it's a lot easier to hold your position than pass that many cars on the race track. It looks like he might benefit in the short run at least by having a smarter crew chief who is willing to take more risks.

So he got up there on pit road, which is probably a call that Eury Jr. would have thought to risky to make.

And he only finished 12th, if he really is going to have a shot at making the chase he better start reeling off a few top 3s with no wrecks or anything like that up until the chase begins. But honestly, after looking at all the drivers ahead of him in points right now, it doesn't look like he has much of a shot. If he runs consistent every week and finishes 12th each time out, he'll probably end up about 14th or 15th when the chase starts...he started fading towards the end of the race again this week, like normal...maybe he wears out to quick and should work out more.

Oh, and since Rick Hendrick changed half Jr's team around and gave Jr. control of some engineers, he should start winning races...if he has what it takes, everything else is there.

Jr. gave a great interview today, he is a realist, some of his fans should try his approach.
  • HMS made more changes than just the crew chief in this deal, in the shops with engineers, etc. but it does need to be pointed out that the crew chief change was Wednesday and that Jr. runs pretty good at Dover. It is far too early to determine anything 4 days after the change.
  • I think the communication is better, I do not expect miracles in one race, The main thing is he has been able to actually get close to the front and have a car that he can drive. Its gonna take a couple races, but he's not in 40th place this weekend for sure. I think Lance has been pretty good, has a positive attitude and can be a pretty good cheer leader up there on the box and motivate the driver, that was what Tony Jr could not do..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms
  • Wow, changes that actually improve a car. Whodathunk? I'm happy that Jr is doing well, and I'm happy that he's actually racing. Win or lose, I think this is a big improvement.
  • A 12th place finish 4 days after a crew chief change is pretty phenominal. I have thought all along that Tony Eury Jr just never got the COT and was unable to make proper changes. Look out, I think the #88 crew is getting ready to "bust a move!!"
  • Yes it does make a difference. So far during Dover he has made small changes and done good. The last change he made didnt work and he started falling back. He also came in and pitted again which put him bacck around 15.

I've been keeping up with the lap times. Pretty much most of the race the cars in front run about 145 and then after a long run drop off to about 141 mph. Dale Jr's car got up to about 144 mph and then they made a bad adjustment and had to repit after the Robby Gordon wreck. He had been running 142 on restarts after fresh tires.

The crew chief that is sitting in so far seems to be making decent changes but shouldn't be expected to be to be perfect in one race. Now they are back down to running 140 mph so they made a change for the worse.

  • I've been listening to his scanner all race long. What a difference! I mean, it's like night and day. There is almost constant chatter going on about how the car is running, and the changes to the car have made it better. Dale Jr. said it himself. He said the changes have been real good. He seems to be in a better mood too. He's been real positive on the radio. There is encouragement going both ways. It's a great thing to hear.

It's too early to tell how the rest of the year will play out, but this is encouraging. Rick made the right decision.
  • You're the type of Jr fan we like to make fun of. He had one decent run of like 20 laps, gained about 10 spots because of a caution during green flag stops and two positions in the pits. Wow! Like he cured cancer. Sheesh! If Tony Jr made the call to pit just now you'd want his head on a platter.

Knew that would rile up someone. Shirley is the winner. I stand by my assessment. No change. Just a lot of radio chatter and Fox saying what you want to hear and even they can't hold back now.
  • WAAAAHHHH!!! Now that Junior has a new crew chief, he'll start winning again, WAAAAAAHHHH!!!

    It won't be any difference.
  • I didn't really like Eury but, wow, I had no idea he was holding JR back like this.

Is this real or is it just today. I mean do you think he is going to turn it around now and make the chase or is he still way to far out to make it.

I'm not being literal here. I know he can make it mathematically but that's not how it really works as you know.

I hope this makes for a whole new year for Dale JR, how about you?
  • The anti-junior crowd is going to make the same comments regardless of how Dale does. They assumed he would run 40th again. He actually did ok, and they still have the same complaints. If Jr. continues to run better now, they will still have just as many excuses as Junior fans.
  • I think it's a combination of two things.

A new crew chief and Jr. usually does well on short tracks.

I hope this starts a run for him.
  • I have been a Jr. fan since he started racing, and until now the only time he ran good was when the car was good right off the truck. Eury was unable to make the car better. Everyone has started saying Jr. is not that great of a driver, but if you look at the way the car drove last week at Charlotte, you could tell he could not race because the car handled so bad. I think the problem has not been with Jr's driving, but the way the car has been handling, and I don't think Jr. was making the changes. Now that he has a proven good crew chief, he should start making progress. He might not make the chase, but he should be on the right track for next year. I don't know why so many Jr. fans have been so quick to jump off the bandwagon. There are several good drivers having terrible years i.e. Kevin Harvick. No one has been saying how bad a driver he is. They have only said how much bad luck he has had. We will see how this change helps or hurts things, but I am excited about the possibilities.
  • fortunately I had the opportunity to read your "additional details" before I answered your question. because it just shows you were being sarcastic in a negative manner. And then you have the guts to say it's the same ol same old why you don't come in here, yet your pulling the same old same old crap that the real users don't like to put up with. Well thanks for creating yourself the situation for the same old same old, but this time you just exploited your negative, sarcastic, insulting point of view. It doesn't mean I can't agree with you, but I am not on that level to think or make decisions speculated on a negative way of thinking. But obviously you were surprised when Junior was running in third position, and if you were watching the race with anyone, there would have been a lame conversation and a feeling of negativity. Just for you, let's be all dark, shallow, and negative, and say "No Juniors crewchief doesn't make a difference"
    It's Busch not Bush
Have fun picking your best answer
  • Jr. is currently struggling on this run. The only time he can drive a car is when the car is absolutely perfect.

The only reason he got way up high in today's race is because that one caution came out when everyone was in the pits and he had yet to pit. Otherwise he was close to getting lapped once again. He got lucky to get his car way up there, but hey, it worked.

Really no one can say there was much if any improvement.audi a3 convertible
