How many drivers are there just to fill the field?

May be...

  • I agree with Biggie B. You're obviously not a fan.
  • 43 oh who cares about the nobodies
  • I think this question sucks... so I'm not going to answer the rant the poster intended, but make a comment about this "field filling."

It's a shame that our economy is in such a poor state that most Nationwide teams can't get a sponsor for their cars. What's even worse is that a lot of the cars, because of lack of sponsorship money, are bringing their cars to the track, running just enough to qualify them in the running, and then taking their 43rd place winnings and their cars home. So, in Nationwide, there really are only 10-15 drivers who have a chance to win, and almost all are affiliated with established Cup teams (such as Roush or Childress). This has to be stopped. What is making the sponsorship for these cars so expensive? Who's pocketing the money? If things get any worse in the Nationwide series, it's going to either fall apart, or need a share-the-wealth philosophy. Someone, please, fix it before it's too late!
  • Kyle Petty has just as much a chance to win a race as Jimmy Johnson. Will it happen? PROBABLY NOT. But it CAN! The point is that I doubt that many of the guys driving give a rats butt if they win or not, they just like to race.

As for the grouching about it, I suggest that if you don't like what's going on in the sport, take to someone that can do something about it. Maybe they will! Other than that change the channel. You wont be hurting any ones feelings.
  • Kyle Petty has 8 career wins...that is more than 11 other active Cup drivers including Elliott Sadler and Denny Hamlin. Kyle's drive is keeping the memory of Adam alive with driving the #45 and running Victory Junction Gang Camps.

I have been a fan since the early 70's I can tell you today's racing is more competitive than back then...in the 70's you had about 7 teams that had the best chance of winning each week. Each team ran only one car back them.

Today though there are only 4 teams that really have a chance to win (HMS, JGR, Roush, RCR) they account for about 15 cars that can win.

Caution flags have always been a problem in NASCAR no matter the decade. That will never change.
  • You make a point there, a stupid point, but a point none the less.

    Here's my answer in a nutshell -

    GET OVER IT
  • If you look at the entire field each race there are only 10 to 15 drivers who really have a chance to win, Are the rest just there to make sure theres 43 cars to race? Like Petty, why does he even climb in a car? He's a joke!!! How many races has he won? Living off his Dad's name. I think Nascar is becoming a joke, they throw the yellow if one of the drivers get a little hang nail, and about all the drivers are really just a bunch of pussy's Nascar won't let them fight, or say any thing bad anymore. They are ruining the sport!!!! Whoops throw the yellow I just farted!!!!
  • Well my friend, like everyone else you are entitled to your opinion. Like any other sport, you do have the upper crust who always seem to win, and in those sports you have players on mediocre teams who are proud just to have the chance to participate. NASCAR is no different, many drivers go their full career and never get the chance to drive into Victory Lane. You chose Kyle Petty as your example, there are many drivers past and present who would like to have his stats, 8 wins 173 top 10's and 8 poles. Saying he's made a living off of Richard's name is not a correct statement. What he has done off the track with the Victory Junction Gang and other charities has made him one of the most respected figures in NASCAR. While I do agree with you that Officials are quick to pull the trigger on a caution, I think it is more the fact that driver safety has come more to the forefront after the tragedies of the past few years. I commend NASCAR for throwing a yellow if they see a problem that could cause a wreck and injure a driver, nobody who is a true fan wants to see someone hurt. As far as letting them fight, and run off at the mouth, might I suggest you become a wrestling fan.
  • Wow, how do you respond to all of that? All I can say is, if you don't like it don't watch it.
  • maybe you should pay more attention to the race. The intensity aquires more perception Report Abuse
  • i think at some races you will see 2 or 3 cars that are just field fillers, but most races have a field filled with teams with dreams or teams that are established and are working to regain their place with the contenders. as for your other comments those are your opinions and even if i don't agree with all of them i believe that's your take on it and your entitled to them.
  • I have never seen a hangnail caution. Nobody forces you to watch. For alot of races this year there were pretty much 42 fillers. Nobody was able to touch Busch or Edwards in the races they have won for the most part. Oh and that was a queef you let, not a fart.
  • when your done cleaning the bathroom, don't forget to turn off the lights.
  • well, for as long as i've been watching seriously there have been forty-three drivers in every race (thirty-six in the truck series), and every one of them has a chance to win. on occasion, one of them not in the top fifteen actually does win. all those drivers who aren't in the top fifteen you speak of are generally on their way up the ranks or on their way back down, although i'm sure there are quite a few who have never really been serious contenders throughout their cup careers. but that's true of nearly every "stick-and-ball" sport as well - college and pro. when's the last time a serious dark horse won a championship, in any sport from college basketball to golf to football to whatever? it happens, but is rare. not everyone can be the best of the best - by definition...

as for bashing certain drivers and complaining about how big a joke nascar has become, it's called a remote control - use it. you must have at least basic cable so that gives you dozens, if not hundreds of channels to choose from...
