Mini stock set up question....?

May be...

  • I have a 93 cavalier that I race on a 1/5th mile asphalt track with concrete corners. I am currently running stock size tires ( 185/75 14) with the maximum camber on the rt front tire. I am considering cutting back on the camber to go to a wider tire all the way around. The car has to run something similar to street tires, but I am thinking maybe going to like a 65 series would help alot in the corners. That's the max width aloud. Would you keep the 75s and the camber or cut it back and go with the 65s all around?
  • You definitely want the widest tire that the rules allow, As far as 65 or 75, that is not the width, that is the height (or profile) of the sidewall. On a 185/75 14 tire. 185 is the width of the tire in mm (185 mm wide). The 75 means that the sidewall is 75% of the width. A shorter sidewall (such as a 65) means that the sidewall is shorter, stiffer, and the tire won't roll over as easy. A shorter sidewall also means the overall diameter is smaller. The goal is to get the tallest, widest tire that you can stuff under the car within the rules. Also, with stock street tire, a tread depth of about 4/32 or less is ideal. Tread depth guages are cheap and available in almost any parts store. Take some time, surf the net, and learn everything you can about tires. It will help you a bunch.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/t...plam desktop
