Kyle Busch vs. Jimmie Johnson?

May be...

  • Jimmie is better than Kyle. Jimmie is more calm. Kyle can drive a loose car but Jimmie is more patient and sticks the car better. Jimmie knows how to make up time in the corners where Kyle drives sideways through the corner. If Kyle has a faster car he can make that work but I think Jimmie can take a slower car and make it as fast as Kyle's car that is faster simply by being precise. I hope that makes sense. Jimmie and Chad keeps their cool at all times. I'll have to hand them that. They also sandbag.
  • No, I don't. Of course, Jimmie is the defending three-time champion. I definitely think that Busch will be a champion and have many accomplishments in his career, but Jimmie is much better. I mean, look at both of their rookie seasons:

Johnson in 2002- 5th in Points; 3 Wins
Busch in 2005- 20th in Points; 2 Wins

They both drove for Hendrick when they had those results. And, the #48 was a brand new team when they had their success in 2002. Some could argue that some of the success was because of co-owner Jeff Gordon, but Jeff sure isn't helping Jimmie now when he is winning championships.

Kyle had a great 2008, but I don't think you can say Kyle is better just because of one season. Jimmie still would have beat Kyle under the old format, anyway. Kyle is young and will do great things in his career. But until he does as much as what Jimmie has already done, I don't you can compare Busch to a three-time champion.
  • Jimmie "the man" Johnson!!
  • Jimmie Johnson is more consistent on a regular basis. He is consistent when it matters most. No other driver can put a string together like Jimmie and Chad has the past few seasons. It's remarkable and one for the ages.
HOWEVER, Kyle can win in a dune-buggy, truck, busch car, cup car, modified...hell, anything with wheels on it, Kyle can drive it and win with it. He reminds me of a young Dale Earnhardt Sr. with some of the moves and wins he's made and earned.
He is pompous and arrogant and needs a PR rep. to help him out with some manners. But Racing isn't about being politcally correct, having manners or any of that other jive. He is paid to win races and that he can do. He will only get better, just so long as Nascar's governing body and corporate jackass sponsors don't try to tame this kid.
He is villian number one right now and that's good for everybody. Someone to stir the pot and putting butts in the seats to see what Kyle will do next.
and by the way, I'm an Earnhardt fan- but I love the sport first and give kuddos to whomever deserves it. Johnson for consistency but Kyle for raw talent...that's my verdict.
  • All I have to say is how many times has Jimmie and Chad been caught cheating?Kyle is no cheater and has lots of talent.Go Kyle Go!
  • I have to say that Jimmy has more talent due to his patience, control, and experience. Kyle is young and has no fear. This makes all his risky moves appear to be talent. Until he wrecks the field in the process. They both are talented gentlemen, or they wouldn't be racing with the other 42 guys every week. Ask me again when Kyle gets
5 more years experience and I might have a different answer.
  • If Kyle can win 3 or even 2 cup titles I might consider it but Jimmie right now is the better talent. Kyle has got a bunch of talent and he is still just a kid and has a long career ahead of him. For that matter so does Jimmie. Im sorry Winter Glory and Maggie but I cant say he is better right now.
  • Kyle Busch has not always had great equipment. When was last time the #5 has been a great car? Not since Terry LaBonte before Jeff Gordon came along. When Kyle got into the #18, It hadnt been in victory lane in awhile. in the truck series, who had ever heard of Billy Ballew before Kyle started winning in his truck, and Kyle was only one that could win in it.

As far as Jimmie Johnson, you have to question how many of those wins came legal, Chad Knaus gets caught cheating EVERY year.
Other than the magnets which were put in after the race, Joe Gibbs Racing has never been caught (Except when Tonys rear window was in crooked which even NASCAR said had no performance value)
  • Even Kyle will tell you it's Jimmie.

Give him time, he's still perfecting his skills..
  • Sorry but I disagree, Kyle is far more talented. You can put him in any kind of car and he can win. Did Jimmy even finish the truck race.

Not to mention, Kyle is an all-or-nothing kind of racer. He doesn't play it safe like Jimmie. He plays to win. (Like that crazy guy that use to drive the 20 car)
  • Everyone can say what they want about the 5 team not being very good but it's STILL HMS equipment and resources. The 48 was a start up team and you can't tell me they were giving Jimmie all the best stuff his first couple of years. Granted Chad had a lot to do with setting the cars up and getting them better but Jimmie is the best race manager in the business. How you run the race and pick your spots has to factor into a driver's ability to be successful. Understanding that you have to first finish in order to finish first is a huge part of it as well. Saving your equipment for when it matters, or "sandbagging" as some call it, is exactly what David Pearson used to do. Ask any of the drivers out there if it takes much ability to master the flat tracks of Martinsville, Phoenix and Indy and let me know what you all learn. Jimmie is the most talented driver to come along since Jeff Gordon and Dale Sr., Kyle cannot say that... YET! I feel that he will be considered in that group someday but not until he wins multiple championships.
    4's FINE N 09!!!!
  • Almost equally talented except I give Kyle the edge. Jimmie is literally a hoot to watch when he tries to race at road courses, plate tracks and places like Bristol but Kyle is lousy at flat tracks like Fontana. Jimmie wins at the hand of his chief. I distinctly remember when Kyle practically had Jimmie tearing after Chicago. He whooped him. lol Anyways both are very good but Kyle has a bit more all around talent.

Kyle has a good soda pop racing resume as well so those points are mute to me. No one has done what Kyle did last year. It was amazing.
  • I'm with you! Jimmie has more talent. And I'm not saying Kyle doesn't have talent cause there is no denying that, I just think that Jimmie has more. Just my opinion.
  • Im not sure how you even compare the 2 but Johnson is better without a doubt. Busch is an awesome talent behind the wheel as he has proven race after race but Johnson has talent plus the brains to get the job done. I think his third championship speaks for itself. GO 24!
  • Kyle has more talent because he can drive well in any type of car.
  • Jimmie is by far the better driver. I can't believe that you would even dare to compare. Kyle is just a young pup with an over-inflated ego. I know that the thumbs down are coming, but oh well.

    Go Jeff in '09!
  • Depends on the day who would win. No one has more talent then the other. They have different aspects of their talents which are just as good. If they both had good cars, crew, mechanics and crew chiefs and luck; I think if the 2 went head to head it would be a close race.

Best of luck to both in 2009. Nascar season is almost here!
  • Jimmie only ran in ONE truck race so I don't think you can judge him on that.................The proof is in the trophy pile...............until Kyle wins a few championships, I think this is a no brainer.
  • Okay,I am asking this question because I have seen some say that Kyle has more talent than Jimmie and that Jimmie has always been in better equipment. However, the fact is that Kyle has always been in great equipment as well. The guy joins a team that happened to be ahead of the curb for a few months and all of a sudden he has more talent than Johnson?

I am not bashing Kyle BTW-he is a great talent and I respect all opinions on here as always,I just want to see how many actually believe that. So,my question is...

Do you think Busch has more talent than Johnson and why????

I say heck no and here is why:

    Johnson's final standings-
    2002-5th
    2003-2nd
    2004-2nd
    2005-5th
    2006-1st
    2007-1st
    2008-1st

    Kyle Busch's final standings-
    2005-20th
    2006-10th
    2007-5th
    2008-10th

Busch has 12 wins in 4 seasons(2 wins or less in every season until 2008)

Johnson has 40 wins in 7 seasons(at least 3 wins a year every year)

I could go on and on,but won't lol.
  • AS in any other sport, the best man does not always win. I say Kyle has more talent. Like someone else said, the #5 had nothing in the way of equipment when he was driving it, and yet he did well. And, let's face it, no one was doing much with a Toyota until Kyle busch got behind the wheel of one. Johnson is more consistent, probably has a better pit crew and crew chief. The team puts him in the top more times than not. Kyle does it by the seat of his pants! I love watching him tear around the track. And to the one that mentioned Jr? Kyle finished ahead of him. What has Hendrick's done for Jr? A new way to make money - it's all about the marketing
  • Oh I have no problem saying Jimmie is better...they are both talented...yes...but I also think with a few more racing years under his belt Kyle will also shine in the chase as well. They are both very talented right now...just in different ways.
  • I'm pretty sure Johnson has more talent.
    But I prefer Busch.
  • for raw talent i would go with kyle, but as a polished racer johnson wins hands down.
  • Jimmie Johnson is way better than Kyle. Kyle ended up finishing like he should: sucking! HA!

    Go HMS and Dale Jr.!
  • I would have to say Kyle Busch the kid is amazing in a race car, Jimmie is only good because of Hendrick Motorsports, like back in the Busch Series Johnson never even finished in the top 20 and then getting noticed by Hendrick he left everything behind him, and with Kyle he has grown up alot since 2005 and he is just getting started he will be there somedayzire72
