why is it always on a thursday?

just something ive always wondered but dont know the answer

It's because the streets are re-opened to the public on Friday. Strange but true.
It's almost always on the same weekend each year (Ascension) and the Thursday is a public holiday. People need to be able to go shopping on the Friday because they can't otherwise between Wednesday evening and Monday morning.

I once heard as it was not to disturb the late Prince Rainer and Princess Grace! Haha, but Rosbif is right. . :-)

Most thursday and friday sessions don't tell you a lot, it's all about set-up, trying new parts, fuel loads, etc and so the fastest times don't mean anything.
