Can you remember the race that caused the "lucky dog" rule?

May be...

  • was it by any chance new hampshire in 04 and maybe...i don't know...steve park.
  • good question, I dont know. But I to add, I think a driver should only be awarded the lucky dog once a race only.
  • Not only was he a sitting duck... he was in danger... because he had already started getting unhooked!
  • never thought of it have to look in to it
it was 1st used at dover
and it was mikey that almost hit jarret dead in the door
  • The track was New Hampshire, the other driver was Bill Elliott (in addition to Michael Waltrip), but I don't know what year it was.
  • I believe it was the race your thinking of with Dale Jarret. That caused them to freeze the field under yellow and that is where the Lucky Dog came in so they would not be racing back to the yellow for their lap back. It was New Hampshire 2003, And I don't remember who it was. Good question

It was the 41 (Think that was mears then) and Waltrip
  • We're having a memory lapse here at my house! We remember that Dale Jarrett was stopped sideways on the track. Two cars came around the turn and almost nailed Jarrett. Pretty sure that one was Michael Waltrip.
Can anyone remember any other details? Like which track, which year, who was the other driver, etc. ?
  • New Hampshire, 2003..not sure of date..but the lucky dog went into effect at:

    Dover, September 21, 2003....
Todd Bodine got the first lucky dog award
Ryan Newman received the lucky dog and won the race
  • It was Louden, in 2001, (not sure) and it was the last race of the season because NASCAR postponed its original date because of 9/11 (Still not sure)
  • It was New Hampshire (at the time) International Speedway. Not sure if 1 was Michael but I do remember the #41 @ the time being driven by Casey Mears being the closest to hitting him.

    Date: September 14 2003
    Event: Sylvania 300
    Venue: New Hampshire International Speedway
