Did Dale Jr. run out of gas Sunday to prove a point to NASCAR?

May be...

  • what point could he be trying to make

his crew chief cant figure milage and should be fired
  • He ran out to prove he sucks.
  • no way tons of ppl wer creepin across the finish!
  • I bet if you asked 43 drivers if the race should be 400 miles instead of 500 miles you would have 43 drivers say yes. Drivers have been complaining about it for years.

A bunch of drivers ran out on the last lap. The teams gambled and quite a few came up short. Several more ran out just after the finish. Jr doesn't fill the tank he just drives. There is nothing he can do about that.
  • you know the man could be right but i remember other people running out of gas too like winter glory said. but i think people who complain about him and stewart are the babies. i would go with winter glory on this

why if we dislike him do we talk about him?
  • Here is an article on the subject. Is he just being a big baby?

Friday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. loudly professed his desire to shorten the length of the five hundred mile race at Pocono Speedway to four hundred miles.

"It's a big, big race track," Earnhardt said. "It's no different really than running at Indy [the Allstate 400] and that's 160 laps. It's a 400-mile race and that's probably what this should be." Earnhardt continued, "I think the races are too long here, I think that's obvious. I think NASCAR thinks it's too long, but the people in charge of that will not change it for whatever reason. Just for spite maybe, I don't know. But they don't have to be out there running."
Sunday on the final lap of the rain delayed Sunoco Fuel-Red Cross 500, Earnhardt allowed his car to run out of fuel and fell from third place to twelfth showing the sellout crowd that the race truly was too long. Carl Edwards finished first for the fourth time this season followed by Tony Stewart. Both drivers reported they had no problems with the length of the race at the fabled triangle and an unnamed source said, "It seems like Junior wants to make the same money for less work."
  • NO! Dale, Jr. wants to win races not prove points. There is no way he would throw and race to prove a point to NASCAR. He has NASCAR's ear because of who he is and who his dad was. I am sure his point was noted and in the next few years Pocono will be shortened. Of course to save face it will not be next year and the excuse for shortening will probably be fuel or something like that. But NASCAR heard loud and clear what Jr. said.
  • no, he didn't do this to prove an point
he just saying that Poconco was the hard track to race well in it because of the turns
  • Come on grow up unless this was a protest by all the other drivers who ran out also you can't read more into things than that it just happened. I guess KB was part of this big conspiracy too since he ran out and didn't even get his car restarted
  • no
  • That's ridiculous. Every race at Pocono is a lousy fuel mileage race. You aren't aware twelve drivers ran out of gas this last race? Jeff Gordon had Casey Mears push him two miles to get off the track. I'm not going to list all the cars that had to be pushed to the inspection area that had no gas.
  • no he wasnt the only car to run out of gas there was several cars that ran out of gas
  • you know what nascar should do bring back the old gas holders from the old cars. it was 22.5 gallons i believe make it more exciting.
  • No, he is not the only one who ran out of gas. Several cars did. Or did you miss that part at the end??
  • Jr. wouldn't just purposely run out of gas like that...he wants the championhip too bad to risk it like that. A lot of drivers an out of gas that day. Look at what happened to Kyle...he quite possibly could have won it...or at least get a top 5 and he was really cookin in the end...and then look. Jr. didn't do it purposely anymore than Kyle did.
  • hmm...I'm gonna go with no on this one. He wasn't the only driver to run out of gas :(
  • He should stop being a CRY-Baby !!! Shut up and RACE or Go Home,
  • Jr. was one of MANY who ran out of gas. Since you didn't post a link to your "article", one can only speculate as to the accuracy or validity of it. If you remember, some drivers pitted out of sequence, and some got better mileage than others. Many factors involved here, some gambled and lost.

    Go Jr.>>>>
  • I don't believe that at all. Dale JR and many other drivers ran out of gas during the final laps. Why would he OR ANYONE risk points by proving a point to NASCAR that's going to fall on deaf ears anyways? I'm sure if we were to talk to JR he would have rather finished 3rd vs 12th as would anyone.
  • Sounds like another BS article. Like winter said he wasn't the only one to run out. Also why would he run out on purpose and give all of his haters a reason to say he didn't win another one?
  • no he did not
  • over88ted.com is your source for this claim (it is to be found nowhere else on the net) and you expect us to believe it? either you are just another junior-basher or you don't know real journalism from parody, or most likely, both.

it definitely tells us something - how much to trust your "sources" whenever you use "an article" to back up your claims. btw, many drivers and others in the garage believe the pocono race should be shorter.
