What Went Wrong For Jeff Gordon In 2008?

May be...

  • Just a bad year overall for the 24 team. He was in good position to win some races like California, Vegas and Martinsville but he didnt. Missed handling and setup most of the season on the 1.5 mile tracks but got better in the Chase. I think the team can rebound in 2009 but not sure if he will be back in 2007 form
  • Overall the #24 team didn't get the season they hoped for, but they still had a good year by any teams standards. Don't forget at the beginning of the year Gordon had a very good shot at winning a couple races when something went wrong, like breaking the axle or drive shaft in the daytona 500 after running top 3 all day, and then at Vegas when he had one of the cars to beat before being in the wreck with the #17 of Kenseth.

Maybe the #24 team needs a chemistry shake up with Jeff Gordon getting a new crew chief, but either way Steve is not a bad crew chief, so I wouldn't blame anything on him...
  • Jeff Gordon dominated for so many years, and then the sport changed. He had built such a great comminucation with Ray Evernham, and then it all went away. It has taken a little time to find a crew chief that will match with him (still looking), and when he catches up, he will be fine. He MAY have another Championship in him. But at this point, he has survived on his ability as a driver. Jimmie Johnson has it figured out, MOSTLY because of talent and Chad Knaus. The same problem with Jr. He has talent, and the best equipment. I think the CREW CHIEF is becoming an even more important piece of the puzzle to winning drivers.
  • What Changes Should Jeff Gordon Make To Be More Competitive In 2009?
  • Who?
  • It's questions like this that demonstrate just how amazing of a driver Jeff Gordon really is.
He went one whole season without a win, finishing with 4 poles,13 top 5's, 19 top 10's, and rounding the season off 7th in points. Alot of drivers would kill for that kind of year.

I don't really think anything "went wrong" for Jeff, I just think people are so used to seeing him in victory lane that when he doesn't get there, we don't know how to act.
Like snow in Las Vegas, rarely happens, when it does, the whole city shuts down because it's just so uncommon.
  • I don't care what anybody says Steve can NOT set the COT up for Jeff all that well. He's been very inconsistent.
  • Steve Latarte needs to get this magic back, he lost it all this yr, he could not get a race set up right at all. I think Steve will rebound and get Jeff back in victory lane. As far as Chad Knaus, heck I want him with Dale Jr. Jimmie can have Tony Jr.

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2009
  • The #24 seemed to have fell behind with the COT on the 1.5 mile tracks such as Texas, Charlotte, and Chicago. Also, he just had bad luck. He could have won many races without bad circumstances. I heard Jeff say that he doesn't think that he and Chad would make a great team, so I would have to say no. I think Chad handles the #48's setups in a way that couldn't work for the #24. I can't think of any changes, but I think Jeff said that they will do everything they can and make any changes necessary to get the #24 up front in 2009. I think and hope he and Steve will rebound next year.
  • He was in the wrong place at the wrong time a bunch in 2008. It still ammazes me he had all that stuff happen to him during the season and him finish where he did in the points. In 2009 there is going to be a bunch go great for Jeff Gordon and the #24 team will have their stuff together. Ive become a fan of Jeff gordon after watching him race and see the determination he has. I did not like the guy in the mid 90's when he was getting into it with Rusty Wallace all the time.

The 24 team should keep what they have and GET AFTER IT AGAIN.
  • the driver needs to go. Jeff sucks.office ipaq
